    Thai Tea
    Hannah C.

Food service was alright overall. Not very attentive unless we called over for the server. We were also the only customers seated at this time we visited. However, the workers were kind. Food tasted good. The Garden Roll was just shrimp, pork, noodles, and lettuce 7/10. The Pho Old Town was a 8/10 unless we found a fly in the bowl...lost my appetite after that. Thai tea was a 8/10. I liked that it wasn't too sweet and could taste the tea. As it is in Old Town Fairfax, the store did have an older vibe to it. The inside had your older asian glossed wooden tables. Also had nice artwork along the walls of the restaurant.

I loved how quiet and peaceful this restaurant felt, the service was great. The rice tasted a lot better once I put the soy sauce on it and I felt like it was so much rice I ended up taking some home which is always a plus for me! I would definitely try something different if I came back around here! They also offer an array of flavors for boba which I definitely want to check out next time! Parking is available in a number of different places around the restaurant along with dessert stores and other food options.

EastWind was a solid B- experience. The service was good and the tables were clean however the food was far from authentic. Food is all lacking critical elements such as herbs in the the summer rolls and the right makeup of spice in the squid. The shaky beef was so tough I could hardly eat it. The fried rice was dry and flavorless. While passable, the value and quality just are not where it should be. With all the other choices in the area, will be not be returning.

Service was quick, and the restaurant is pretty hidden and quiet. I got the crispy noodle stir fried, which had a really nice variety of vegetables and yummy sauce. My friends also liked their pho and clay pot rice. The restaurant is also sorta dark and nicer than expected.

No, not the owner of this place but I tend to go here a lot because the food is very good and consistent. Ordered what I typically order but was tempted to go with the clay pot. Next time! Try this place, it's not very busy most times and service is very good too.

East Wind in Fairfax is fantastic for authentic Vietnamese food! Came here on a Friday night without a wait. They start you off with complimentary tasty shrimp-flavored chips. We ordered the combo vermicelli and the Vietnamese crepe with chicken (you can also choose tofu). Both were full of flavor! The vermicelli combo is great - you get to try a bit of everything, like spring rolls and your choice of grilled beef/chicken/pork. I have been looking for Vietnamese crepes, which I don't find in many Vietnamese restaurants in this area. They load it up with bean sprouts for that nice crunch. The fish sauce dressing they use makes everything taste amazing. They have a large menu and I'll definitely come back to check out their other chef's speal entrees!

I went to East Wind for lunch with my co-workers recently. Most of us ordered Lunch Special with shrimp rolls/fried rolls. I also ordered Vietnamese Coffee for my drink. While waiting, we were served complimentary Shrimp Chips which was amazing! Everything we had was delicious - the lunch special pho was definitely smaller than a regular bowl but that was okay for me. The service was a little slow during our visit because it looks like they have one person taking care of everyone's orders - but I hope this was an isolated case.

Spring rolls and pork vermicelli bowl

Cheap lunch combo and the price is right. However spring rolls were small and pork bowl was ok. Not much flavor or anything special. Was disappointed after all the good reviews. My two other friends had beef pho and it was just ok as well- the broth wasn't that rich or flavorful.

Very consistent with food quality, quick service, friendly staff. Crispy eggrolls are very good here. The broth in their soup is pretty good and they typically provide you with a complementary appetizer. Very good lunch specials for around $13. Must try!

Food here was very good. They bring shrimp chips to every table which I thought was nice. My husband & I both ordered spring rolls with shrimp. The peanut sauce wasn't as "peanut-y" as I liked, but it was still good. Our friends got the vegetarian spring rolls which they liked. My husband & I ordered pho with chicken which was delicious! Our friends both ordered vegetarian pho, however they only had chicken broth and beef broth, so if you are vegan or vegetarian, this may be a problem! Service was nice. The place is pretty big, there was a decent amount of people there but it was pretty quiet.

East Wind is every nice word you can think of. Even as a regular for over five years, I am still crazy phở this place! My sorority sisters, friends, and I eat here frequently and never tire of it! I love visiting for their lunch combos (11-3PM) as you can receive one main item (1-8) + spring rolls or garden rolls + one soft drink for $11.95--a pretty solid deal! As for: ‣ QUALITY - All ingredients are high quality and fresh; dishes are prepared with meticulous attention to detail, balanced flavor profiles, and expertise! ‣ SERVICE - Truly the best service a guest could hope for! Fast, friendly, genuine, and attentive, they aim to ensure your dining experience goes smoothly. My glass of water is never empty. In addition, I absolutely adore their complimentary shrimp crackers and sweet flan dessert! ‣ AMBIENCE - The restaurant is clean, spacious, and filled with charming décor and soothing vibes. The atmosphere is very casual and comfortable--perfect for bringing family, friends, co-workers, and dates. Overall, a great place for phở, especially if you are a Mason student! East Wind will always have a special place in my heart (and stomach)!

Pho Old Town (Phở Đặc Biệt)
    Anh H.

Arriving here on a weekday at about 7pm, there seemed to be ample seating. We were seated immediately and there only looked to be a couple of families and an odd table or two otherwise. There were also quite a number of pick up orders as well throughout the course of our meal, however our order still came out fairly quickly. I had a Vietnamese drip coffee with condensed milk (Cà Phê Sữa Đá) to start for $4.50. It's a good pick me up if you need a bit of a caffeine boost. For my entree, I had the large Pho Old Town (Phở Đặc Biệt) which came with your standard fare of eye round, brisket, and meatballs for $12.95. It also came with a side dish of spearmint, mung bean sprouts, jalapeño slices, lime, sriracha, and hoisin sauce to add to taste. Overall, the service is good here, the food was fair for the price, and the ambiance was a bit dim. I'm glad I got to check it out and would come again next time I'm craving Viet food on Main St/Old Town Fairfax.

Clay Pot Rice With Clams and Pork
    Justine T.

I really enjoyed my meal here! The clay pot with clams and pork was amazing. It was so flavorful and there was a good amount of meat. I just wish the rice was a bit crispier at the bottom. The service was fine and atmosphere was okay. I just don't see myself coming back here. Nothing really blew me away, but I would recommend if you live close or are in the area already.

Decent amount of seating both indoor and outdoor. Staff is friendly. I tried the dac biet (combo) with extra pickled vegetables. Pickled veg was super sweet/ needs a little more vinegar or something. Their combo says it comes with jambon, Vietnamese ham, and pork roll- I don't know which of these ingredients is head cheese but it definitely had head cheese. I don't like the gelatinous texture of head cheese so I asked for them to not put that on. It also comes with the usual Vietnamese mayo/pate, as well as a drizzle of some sort of chili sauce. The sauce didn't deter from taste. The bread was super hard and not in a good way. It softened after a quick nuke in the microwave. Overall, decent, I'd come back again, but not the best banh mi.

It seems everywhere you look in NOVA, there is a new Viet style banh mi shop opening; which is…read morealways a good thing. As of this review, Banh Mi Ong Beo has been in operation for 6-ish months. And while there are many positives about this place, operational kinks need to be smoothed out. Located in the University Mall across from George Mason, BMOB (should've arranged the letters to create the "BOMB" acroynm), is in a great location. I'm here often enough to catch a flick at the movie theatre or as in this instance, I was attending a conference at GMU. After the meeting, Yelp popped up this new banh mi place to check out. The interior is decorated tastefully and creates an inviting space to hang out. Counter seating and semi-uncomfortable backless chairs line the front windows, while the rest of the shop has more traditional tables and chairs, including a cozy couch area with an electric fireplace. Colorful lanterns and Viet style artwork also adorn the walls and ceilings. As is my penchant, I ordered the Dac Biet (or combo) as this is the benchmark by which any good banh mi place is measured by. The sando was ready in about 5 min, and I wanted to enjoy it fresh at the restaurant. On first inspection, I could feel it had good weight to it and it was filled with an appropriate portion of meats and veggies. While I thought the sammich was good, my tasting notes were: * Bread - Not sure if they bake bread on premises, but it didn't taste "fresh." The exterior was crunchy (correct) but the interior was too dry. But I get it; the place is still new so they don't want to order or bake too much bread to keep food waste down. * Pickled Veggies - One of the hallmarks of a banh mi sando, are the pickled carrots and daikon radish. IMHO, these were waaay too sweet. I liked that the vinegar flavor wasn't overpowering, but tamp down on the sugar. Also, I thought the veggies weren't drained properly so the bread got soggy when it was compressed. I would suggest using less liquid when storing the veggies on the prep table. Again, as this place gets busier, I don't see this being an issue. I didn't try any of the drinks, but did notice a few GMU students wandering in to get an order of the egg coffee and cafe su da. When judging a banh mi shop, the ultimate factor for me is whether the place prevents me from having to drive to either DC Banh Mi (my preferred destination) or Eden Center where there are a plethora of options. As of now, Banh Mi Ong Beo does not meet that criteria; especially at $9-$10 a sandwhich which is on the higher price point compared to other shops. But I'll check back in a few months to see if my opinion has changed.
