Decent prices - we paid $21 for 2 people for dinner. Nice selection, better selection of sushi for a buffet place. Food seems fresh, the place is clean, service is fast. The samon is very delicious! Yummy calamari as well. Good selection on seafood. On Saturday nights - try to get there before 6pm to beat the crowd because it does get crowded fast! They do have a enclosed area for parties too. Personally i really like this Chinese buffet. They have lots of sushi that they change out even if some is left out (so the same sushi isnt sitting there from 11am-6pm) which I thought was really nice! They soups are yummy, and the buffet has a ton to choose from. My mother doesnt like it as much as I do, (not enough veggies for her) but im not a huge veggie eater so its just fine!. Dessert bar is just okay. nothing special, i usually skip it. Staff: quick on refilling drinks and taking plates away, but pretty unfriendly. The host staff are nice, but the waiters arent. First off...it's pretty tough to write a review for a buffet. You have to understand going into the experience that it isn't about quality as much as quantity. Therefore, the star rating is based on comparison with other buffets. I've been to a handful of Asian buffet restaurants over the years and this place is at the top. They have a good selection of seafood and sushi that make it worth the $10.50 cover charge (if you go for it); otherwise, no amount of lo mein and General Tsao's chicken can make it worth the price of admission. The quality of food was average, but the selection was good. The place was very clean and it didn't feel overcrowded even though the restaurant was completely full on a friday night. I do not recommend this place at all has horrible customer service and they literally stop serving food exactly at 9pm.All they have is leftovers and will not put out any more food for the paying customer at all.The manager was horrible and so disrespectful.All she did was give me $1.30 discount when they didn't even have the food I like. However, and it can get very packed but there's always seems to be a table or booth available. Worst experience ever and I've been coming here since they opened. Husband and I came in at 8:15. We were seated, ordered our sodas and went to get food... except there was NOTHING!!!! How did they except to charge us full price for 4 wings and 10 crab Rangoon?! They even sat a group of 10 behind us who were also unaware. We waited for more food to come out and nothing did. Upon entering there are several signs to ensure you are wearing a mask...expected. The sign also states that you must EITHER wear gloves OR use hand sanitizer upon going to the buffet. We asked for a table for two and the host grabbed two sets of gloves with his UNGLOVED hands. My husband and I both stated that we'd prefer to use the hand sanitizer that was provided and promptly used it to ensure our hands were germ free. He walked away and a random lady came over and began YELLING at us that we have to use gloves. I pointed to the sign that said we had a choice of gloves or sanitizer and she continued to yell (not an exaggeration) that we had to use gloves because customers complained and can't tell if our hands are clean or not. I asked her to please stop yelling at me at which point she got louder and shoved plastic gloves in my face with her UNGLOVED hands. Needless to say, we left. But E Star Chinese Buffet on Interstate 10 and Fry Rd South, Katy, TX, is a very good place to dine in or to take out. (We have been dining there since it opened a year ago). Wide selection, including Sushi, Spare Ribs, Pizza for the kids, and real good Chinese / Cantonese food. We go for the chinese food and the sushi and the sea shells. If you see Chinese or Asian people eating in a particular chinese restaurant, then the chinese food thereat must be good and it is. And I think I have eaten in Chinese Restaurants more than most of you over the past 40 years or so. Many Hispanics and Anglo Americans eat there, so it must be good. The decor is good, not much bright neon lights, Ru, one of the managers is very courteous and friendly. My wife and I miss her. And the staff are very good too. The room design was really typical l like so call "fu caw" style buffet. Sushi sashimi was okay , Oyster was okay consider bad ... Well things are i know what i want to eat there , i really picky about the hot food and i am very much picky about sushi. My fav list : short ribs , tsao chicken , the fried craps. It was not a vietnamese style buffet so dont really expect any of the item. \ i always end it with simple ice cream with sesame topping. after visiting here twice, ive made up my mind. i like it! now for roughly $11-$12 per person, its a pretty good deal for what you get. they have a variety of food, but fewer things than bigger buffets like china bear, or todai. the main reason i come here, and keep coming back, is for the oysters. they have shucked fresh oysters, and its actually pretty damn good! i was surprised when it didnt taste like old 3 day seafood. i piled on plates of oysters, and sure as hell got my money's worth. the sushi bar is pretty good which was suprising considering most other places (todai, toyko one, etc) charges almost $25-$30 a person for a go around their sushi bars. the other foods are fairly the same. youve got your usual chinese buffet soups (spicy thai chicken soup, hot and sour, egg drop, etc), the usual general tso's chicken and beef and broccoli etc and the soft serve icecream machine. overall a really good value. its not super crowded, theres ample space and lots of big tvs all around. great place to have a delicious and cheap filling dinner. Wish I could give it less than 1 star. Service is okay. Managment is POOR. I was a regular here but you won't find me back anymore. In the midst of my meal, I find a long black strand of hair wrapped around my fried crabs. Obviously it doesnt belong to a customer because it looks like the hair was cooked into it. I bring this to management's attention (lady with the short boy cut) and she pulls out the hair and takes the plate. She then tells me that they are making a new batch. Um.. what makes you think I would want your new batch. I ask for the check because at this point I don't want anymore of their food. Managment completely disregards my concern and makes no effort to make my experience any better. It wasn't until my boyfriend brought this to their attention that this piece of hair had cut our meal short and that it definitely wasn't worth the price we were charged. She rudely takes my card and said okay i give you discount. Swipes my card without telling me what my new price is. Turns out it was only 10%. Obviously I'm pissed and just left with my kids. The money wasn't the biggest issue for me, it was the effort the management gave. It only shows they care less about their customers. I don't like Chinese buffets b/c they usually all have the same food, and most of the time it is not fresh. Here the buffet is turned over regularly that and there are so many guests that the food is just eaten up so quickly. There is a lot of variety and the appetizers are really good. Been a regular here since they opened in Katy years ago. Food has always been good but have noticed it slowly degrading over time. Floors wouldn't be as clean, silverware & plates slightly dirty, food seemed to be re-heated from the day before. All these issues still weren't bad enough to keep us from coming back as they still had some very good dishes for a buffet place. This last dining experience however will be our last trip back. First noticed that the fried rice had a bit of a sour taste to it but didn't pay much attention and left it aside. Tried the noodles next and they definitely tasted sour, as if the cabbage had been left out overnight and had gone bad. Our whole table agreed and so did our waitress. She took the dish to the manager, had a few words and brought us our check as if nothing happened. No discount, no apology and the large serving of noodles remained on the buffet line. Been craving a Chinese buffet since I moved from Webster almost a year ago. But now living in Cypress, TX, there were none around. This place was recommended to me so I went to try it. It's a pretty nice place for a buffet and everything seemed fresh and looked good. As one reviewer said - the clams were overcooked (very dry) and the sushi was extensive. I went around 12pm on Saturday (which is today), and the place was not full yet. It was starting to full up quickly as we were eating. The waiter was very good with drink refills and clearing plates from our table. The price is not bad, but my 10 year old had to pay for the adult meal since only 9 and under get a discount. They had crayfish and small crabs (which were dry) but the chicken and meat dishes tasted fresh and not old like some other buffets that I tried in the past. Two stars are missing because I am comparing this one to others that I have been - no Habachi grill and no snow crabs (for dinner/ weekends). I went on a Saturday around noon and the selection looked good until I realized there was alot of chicken on the buffet line. Clean, nice decor, friendly service, and a lot of variety. Also, because they are always busy the food gets rotated and refilled frequently. They've maintained their level of excellence since opening about 3 years ago. Surprisingly, my least favorite item is probably their fried rice. The vegetables in their dishes seem fresh and plentiful. You'll also find a good variety of entrees, and not an abundance of cheap, fried, filler foods that lower-end Chinese buffet always seem to have on hand. Seafood items typically offered are: baked salmon, fried calamari, Salt & Pepper Shrimp, small Steamed Clams, baked Mussels with Cheese, an array of Sushi (maki, nigiri, sashimi). Seasonally they'll have crawfish or whole crabs. Typical dessert offerings such as fresh fruit, small pastries, and the requisite soft-serve ice cream machine. Last night, I threw caution to the wind and tried the cold sliced Mango Chili-Cilantro salad. Interesting. I don't know if it was the under cooked rice? Over-cooked veggies? or semi-flavorless meats. I was left with a feeling it could be a lot better in preparation. I even showed up when they first opened to get the freshest food possible. It didn't help, it as if they prepared the food then at the very end added sauces and salt/pepper for flavor, which made it taste overly salty/peppery or sweet from the sauce. It would be a lot better if it was marinated then cooked then added a little flavor at the end.
