I would say something about the quality of their work, except they never showed up to fix my water heater so I can't. The only thing I can say is that their technicians must be super busy, cuz their dispatcher kept telling us that they were running late and asking if we could reschedule for a later time. If a plumber is running late, no biggie. Things happen. We get it. But FIVE TIMES over a 4-day period is simply ridiculous. We originally scheduled our service for Friday afternoon. After several calls from the dispatcher giving us an update on the plumber's ETA, they finally tell us that their guy was going to be stuck on a job for the rest of the day, so can we reschedule for Saturday morning? Sure, no problem. We're nice people and we understand. Saturday morning, he was running late again, but we had other things to do that day besides waiting around for the plumber, so we rescheduled for Saturday afternoon. Again, no problem. At 5pm the dispatcher called to say their guy was still working on a job, so can we reschedule for Sunday morning? Sigh. Okay, fine. On Sunday we get a call telling us that they only do emergencies on Sundays, so can we reschedule for Monday? At this point we were getting a little annoyed, so we asked if they could still come out here but waive the extra $69 fee for a Sunday job. Y'know, as a courtesy for putting us off 3 times. Dispatcher says nope, sorry, no can do. Really?? Sigh. Alright fine, just make sure your guy comes out here on Monday afternoon. (Day 4 of no hot water, by the way.) Monday afternoon we get a call from the dispatcher. The plumber is stuck working on a job, and traffic is bad, so can we reschedule for Tuesday? ARE YOU SERIOUS? You want us to reschedule a FIFTH TIME? Needless to say, we called someone else, who came out within 2 hours. We're never calling these guys again. read more

I called Dutton to come over to my house to replace a toilet and garbage disposal (I had purchased both items just needed labor). The plumber showed up and looked at the toilet first. He proceeds to tell me that the toilet won't fit and I need to have the floor dug up and re flange the connection, $5,500. I told him no. Then he wanted $595 to instal the garbage disposal. Anyways I told him no , he left. A handyman came over and installed my toilet for $100. Then he did the garbage disposal for $50. Took him an hour for both jobs. I will never call Dutton again. Do yourself a favor, get other bids before trusting anything they tell you. What cost me $150 would've cost me over $6k from Dutton. read more

Gave it a 3 - to try & get Yelp to post this - I am very disappointed & upset with Dutton. I'm reading very similar "bait & switch" type stories on Yelp pages. Basically, I called for the $79 drain cleaning on upstairs toilet & slow draining sink in same room. Plumber gets here & says there must be a block in the system - that for both to be slow means our plumbing isn't "breathing right". He finds the clean out & opens it (in garage) & shows me creepy goop & hair. Long story short -- he says we need to use a camera to check the lines -- calls in a second guy (which I realized later was the "closer"). They show me & husband footage of clear drain to the street (by now we have agreed to $250 for this camera service...) Now when we lived in TO we really DID have a bad line from house to the street. We had SEEN what a line full of tree roots looks like. The video yesterday was clear as a bell. But Mr. plumber is trying to tell us we have a BAD problem. . It's going to be $10,000! My husband just laughs & says "no". Mr. Plumber immediately drops the rate to $5,500. (What?! What is going on here?!) We tell them NO -- so they drop it to $2,995. . It's just crazy?!? Right?!? AND - they never actually snake or clear the original problem. I now have a backed up toilet tonight. Grrrr. Anyone know a reputable plumber? And what should I do to get that $250 back?!? I had a terrible experience with this company, my appointment was at 9:00 am, they did not arrive till 5pm. The plumber stated that he could not unclog my tub and he would need to schedule another appointment to send a camera down my toilet and I could possibly have to remove my tub along with other major repairs. Do not use this company!!! - VERY over priced. Young plumbers need to call manager for inflated prices. Quotes are inflated beyond reason! Even if you purchased your own facet (at Lowe's) for a bathroom sink, Dutton Plumbing will charge you $700.00 for what should be no more then a $200.00 or less, job. Changing a basic facet is a simple straight-forward job, and not one that should cost $700.00. When you own your home and have things done over the years by reasonable plumbers, you know when someone is trying to rip you off! They are the most expensive plumbers, and they are sloppy. One Dutton Plumber left a tool in our aunts garbage disposal. Then ruined the garbage disposal. The young and not-so-experienced plumber will snake your pipes, and put a camera down in them and claim to "get real" with you and state that the pipes should be replaced! Really!? The other plumbers do not agree with Dutton. Stay clear of this company, unless you want to pay inflated prices for the same work a reasonable plumber, would do, for a reasonable rate. Called these guys after my friend accidentally hit a pipe outside my new rental home while moving. Was panicked because water was going everywhere and needed someone out there quick. They asked for a CC to "hold" the appointment" and said someone would be there within an hour (BTW, this was before 7pm, before actual emergency time I believe). We wait and wait (longer than an hour mind you), finally someone shows up and first thing he does is turn off the water then proceeds to look at the damage. Not knowing a thing about plumbing you could tell was not a tough fix, you could see where the pipe had come apart and it was at the seam, just needed to be fitted back together and welded again. While he was writing up an estimate my friend received a call back from the plumber she does business with at her place of employment (she had been unable to reach him before this other guy had shown up). She told him what had happened and he said the repair shouldn't be more than around $150, if even that much and if the guy came back with something more than that to call him and he would come out himself. Well the estimate came back and it was OUTRAGEOUS! It was $950, or he could drop it to $850, a budget rate or something - what??? Not only was he trying to overcharge to fix the pipe but was going to move all the pipes closer to the house and all these other things that weren't necessary. I refused and my friend told him she was told by another plumber an approximate charge for such a fix, that the amount he was giving us was ridiculous and the only thing that needed to be done was fix the pipe that had come apart, period. He then tried to get me to sign off on this estimate refusing the service but authorizing the service call of $129 which I also refused to do - so he then called his manager, who he had on two way radio. Evidently this individual did not know we could hear everything he was saying as he proceeded to talk about how they had my CC and I was already charged $129 anyway so it didn't matter whether I signed or not and to bash the business relationship my friend had with another plumber, he was unethical and rude. I refused to sign anything or authorize any work and the guy just left and sure enough, I checked my bank and I had been charged $129 to be treated horribly and try to get scammed out of nearly $1000. The other plumber ended up coming out and fixed it quickly and the cost? $125. Will NEVER call again and if you're ever in need of a plumber look elsewhere, these guys don't care about the customer, only money. read more

I just had Dutton plumbing come out to do a $22 toilet tune up. It ended up costing me $297 for two replacement parts. A neighbor who is a plumber came by when he left and asked me why I had called them out, and asked to look at what had been done. When he looked he was so mad and said, the parts that were replaced cost $10 so now I feel really ripped off that I was overcharged by so much.I am very upset with myself that I didn't check reviews before calling Dutton but I won't make the same mistake again. Man do I feel dumb. Had to call emergency plumbing service basically to figure out the 2 water shut-off valves outside my house. My problem: front lawn sprinklers wouldn't shut off. I discovered a busted main sprinkler valve. My wife made the call (while I got a nice, cool shower outside) and spoke to Robert whom was very helpful. Within 30 minutes, Ramiro from Dutton came. He was professional, courteous and was able to determine what the 2 shut-off valves were for: 1 for the main supply and the other for just the sprinklers. So basically, I could've saved the trouble and money if I had already known that. Ramiro gave me an estimate to replace the sprinkler valve which was much higher than I could afford but that was mainly because of the off-hours situation (past 9 on a Sunday night) and the only replacement he had in his truck was brass which is pricier (and more durable) than the plastic one that busted. Made sense but I told him I couldn't afford the fee and he was very understanding. Only charged for the service call. Paid him with a check and he was on his way in less than 20 minutes. I would recommend them to anyone. Footnote: I will be having my landscaper replace the busted sprinkler valve, hopefully with a longer-lasting one. I also plan to learn more about my own house. read more

Do NOT use Dutton Plumbing. They have a nice looking truck and nice uniforms and that s ALL they have. They quoted me a price of $4,000 to fix a backed up bathroom and shower drain. They said that they would need to make a hole in a wall and that it was a major job because after they had snaked it twice(for which they charged me $124.00 each time), it was still backing up. I called a plumber, who my friend refered, who fixed the problem in twenty minutes for $125.00. He went on the roof and snaked it from up there in two places. He really knew his stuff. No fancy truck or uniform. He just really knows his profession. I have not had a problem since. read more

Run for the hills!!!!! Call someone else! I had a broken pipe somewhere (water was coming up between the house foundation (built on concrete slab) and pavers on the patio. Had to turn off the main. The plumber arrived, never even picked up a shovel, said looks like a slab leak, and then called a second guy. He shows up and proceeds to try to sell us a new Repipe to bypass the old galvanized pipes under the slab. The estimates ranged from $23,000- $32,000! But don't worry, second guy was in charge of insuring you get financed. Sent them packing. Turns out it was an old galvanized line running along side the house to a hose bib. Had to cut a two foot section of concrete patio to get to a ninety in the line that was sturdy enough to cap. $150 total to turn my water back on that same night. Later ran a new main to the house and replaced all 4 hose lines for $3000. AND, turns out the house was completely repiped in copper before we bought it, but they never looked in the attic to see that, either. Beware! read more

Steve F. was the technician and he was exceptional but I am not happy with the pricing. I thought it was way too much for what was done. I blame the company for that. I have the invoice in front of me and there was not a breakdown for labor, parts, time spent, or anything else! I will never use this company again. He was very concerned about my experience and apologized for the treatment I received from one of his employee, and offered to take any steps needed to complete the repairs properly. I was hesitant at first, but as a former business owner myself, I appreciate Mr. Dutton's position as it relates to employees' actions. Therefore, I agreed to accept his offer to repair the problem at no cost. A crew was dispatched immediately, and everyone that came out was very pleasant and professional. They get two stars for prior work, and the fact that they are at your house very quickly after calling them. We recently spent $9800 to have them re-do our main sewage line from the house to the street. They did an amazing job and did it quickly. Knowing that they are not the cheapest, but that they do a good job and do it ASAP, I called them when our water heater died. Of course they were out immediately, and of course they wanted to charge well over $1000 more than others in the area. I did not haggle with their price, all I asked for was a better warranty for the work. I'm willing to pay $1000 for the peace of mind of one less thing that can(will) go wrong as a homeowner. They first called back and said they would have to charge me extra for the extended warranty. I told them I'm not paying way over market price to begin with, and then paying more for a better warranty!!! Politely asked that they have a nice day, I'll pay the $39 trip fee they charge and find someone to do it for me tomorrow instead of tonight. Surprise, surprise, I got a call back 10 minutes later saying it was fine at the original price with the extended warranty. They thought it was bad business to lose me as a customer for $200... Too little too late. I hope they take care of any future customers better than they did this one who wanted to be a return customer... read more

dutton guys are crooks! dutton wanted me to spend $18,000 on a new sewer main. got second camera man to inspect line with second plumber along his side. they could have lied (like dutton did) and said i needed a repair. instead i found out that dutton was railroading me - there was absolutely noting wrong with our sewer main!! they also wanted to remove the vanity to fix a tub drain leak for $3,600!!! my new plumber fixed it using the crawl space for only $150. don't ever call or let dutton into your home - these guys are theives! read more

We had a slab leak that was invisible but knew water was going somewhere. Luis Z and his helper Jake (Remember the song from Funny Girl -- Second Hand Rose?) there really IS a "Jake the plumber" were able to find it and do a major re-route of the system with what I would call minimal damage to our drywall. Even though he is tall, Jake could have been a "tunnel rat" in Vietnam.. except that he wasn't born yet! They were informative, courteous, and everything went well. We had a leak under a bathroom sink on a Sunday. Tried to fix it ourselves but our house is old we couldn't get the parts. Had the water off to the house and couldn't turn back on until the problem was resolved. We got Steven C. He came quickly was very clean, neat and personable. More importantly he did the job fast and efficiently. We used Dutton for a lot of fixes around here years ago. Back then we got Kevin a lot. He was really great too. I think he may be a manager type now. : ) They always do a great job. They clean up after themselves. They are not the cheapest out there (the only reason for the 4 stars instead of 5) but..... you do have the peace of mind of knowing they will do a great job. I should've checked reviews before I called them. Very similar experience to everyone else, except they did show up as promised without any delays. First, they're expensive. Second, if there's an expensive way to do something, that's what they do. I lost confidence in their honesty when the technician told me you can't rooter a toilet without unseating it. I know this isn't true because I've seen it done - on the very toilet he was pointing to when he said it. Then, he said the cleanout was clear and not the cause of the stoppage and he'd have to rooter the main line - for another $300. I stopped him there. The toilets that had been clogged were flushing fine. My experience has been that if the main line is clogged, there's a lot more sinks and toilets backing up, not just two toilets on the cleanout he had just rootered. He argued with me but I wouldn't approve any additional work. Then, for no apparent reason, he checked the water pressure - and told me my regulator was bad and needed replacing. By then, I just wanted him gone. I told him we were through, paid him as quickly as possible and he left. I will never EVER call Dutton Plumbing again. read more

LOOK ELSEWHERE and FAST! I should have done more research before calling Dutton. Here's the quote I received.... PROJECT: To extend a gas line from directly behind the stove in the kitchen through the wall to the outside with 1 foot of pipe was estimated at $908.19... QUOTE: Extend 1/2" pipe up to 5 feet = $372.43. Add a 1/2" gas service stop (a freaking valve!) = $313.24. Expose gas line in wall (not sure why, it already exists outside the wall behind the stove) = $149.39. A 1-year service agreement = $73.13. A complete ripoff and they have to know this! Maybe they just like collecting the $39 quote fee and don't need the business. FOLLOW UP: I received a quote from another licensed plumber for $165 for the same project - and no cost to me to come out and provide the quote. Hmmmmm...$908 (+$39) or $165. read more

I got a quote over the phone for $199 from Michael. When the plumber got here he gave me a quote of $549. This was to find a leak in a pipe that was in the dirt in about a 5' x 10' area. They were asking $549 to dig a hole to find a leaking pipe! Unbelievable! The quote I was given over the phone was for the same thing. The plumber said he would call the office. I watched him and he did not talk to anyone else. He came back to me and said $249. I told him to leave my property. These guys are scam artists so BEWARE!!! read more

My kitchen sink was totally clogged. Before I called Dutton Plumbing, I called 2 other companies: Lloyd's Plumbing and Express Plumbing and Rooter. Lloyd's wanted a minimum $130 for the first hour! Yeah, right! Express said they would send a technician out to give me an estimate. After waiting a good hour without hearing from Express, I called Dutton Plumbing. Not only did Tory (?) put me on the "Urgency List," someone from Dutton called me about 1/2 hour later and told me that Ramiro was on his way to my house. Plus, I was told that I would get my drain fixed on a $79 special! Ramiro was very professional, thorough, and helpful. He explained everything he was doing. He tried a couple of things and then used a snake on my drain and fixed it. He also cleaned up after he fixed my sink and didn't leave a mess. Ramiro then let me know that I have a 30-day warranty on the work, which was a huge comfort to know. After Ramiro left, I called by Express and told them not to bother. They then informed me that they had someone in my area, who could be there right away. -- Yeah, right! Anyway, Dutton Plumbing was totally "on top of it" and provided great service at a great price. Unbelievably bad service with insane (and I mean, INSANE) prices. First, they would not quote a very simple job. This company was more like a scam than a legitimate plumbing service. They charge you (everyone/anyone) $40 just to have their truck parked in front of your house-- Before any quote/estimate. I don't think so...not unless you want your Mom to get ripped off...for a simple toilet install (Toilet cost $179) they quoted me $519...then I complained and got it down to $372...since then I got other quotes of about $150 for same job...then their quoted me $1400 for a sink leak that I had fixed elsewhere for $250!! Then the expert showed up and took pictures of our waste piping to the street and said it would be $5,000 now to fix or $20,000 later...all this for a simple toilet install...three people came and stayed over 4 hours...to sum things up, BUYER BEWARE!! read more

Used this company about two years ago to replace two leaking tub valves and outside main water pressure control valve. A little over a year later and both of the tub valves were leaking again. Called them to see if they covered it under repair warranty and they just wanted to charge me again for valves and labor. The valves should have lasted much longer. Did the job myself in about 60 min. and they both work fine now. Original job cost $640 for about 1.5 hours work which was way to high. They must be MD's of plumbing for what they charge. Also they put an ugly Dutton sticker on my water heater in the garage which they did not ask my permission to do. Warning do not use this company. read more

These guys are sneaky. We called them to get a quote for a Water Heater installation. They refused to even give us a ball park figure over the phone. They told us that they need to come out to give us an estimate. They wanted $800.00 for the job and to also charge us for giving the estimate!!! My husband, who is a handyman did not have the time to do the job would NEVER pay for an estimate call! He argued with the manager on the phone. The manager forgave the estimate charge after 20 minutes of arguing. The sneaky thing is that when my husband made the original call for the quote, they never told him there would be a estimate charge. I had a simple leak in a copper pipe which I was told by other companies would require about an hour labor a 2 foot piece of copper pipe, about $45 in parts, I was willing to pay $150-$200 as that was the quote from 3 other plumbing companies, but none could come until tomorrow. DUTTON PLUMBING said they could come right away but could not give me a quote over the phone. After seeing how simple the fix was, they start telling you they have done work for all your neighbors, blah blah blah then he says THE TOTAL COMES TO $1,050.00 In disbelief I said "you better leave" they say "how much do you want to pay?" (What??) I said I will give you $180 or you can leave now. They then get a "supervisor" on the phone who says 'you'll probably be getting someone who works out of their truck or is unqualified if you don;t use us then he goes ok we'll do it for $375.00. They go from $1050 to $375 in 30 seconds and still 2x as expensive as anyone else. NEVER EVER USE ThIS COMPANY. DO NOT LET THEM IN YOUR HOUSE BEWARE BEWARE FOLLOW UP: Next morning the other company finished the job in one hour and total Price was $172.00 I saved $900.00 by not letting Dutton Plumbing scam me. I needed an estimate, called Dutton and scheduled it for 12:30 on Saturday. I was warned...they flake, over priced, will reschedule multiple times. But thought I would give them a chance anyways. Right on cue 20 min after our appt time they call to reschedule. Because they only have 1 tech working and he is busy with real calls. I rearrange my weekend to work with the time that they set and they still flake. Strike 1 and I am done. read more

He faced and overcame some unique challenges with our job. He even threw in an quick little extra unrelated side task for us while he was there.
