This is my second time eating at Doughworks. The first time I had breakfast before heading up the mountain to ski. I remember really liking the service and food, so I thought we would stop in for lunch on our way back to ABQ. We sat in the back close to the cute bar area. Our waitress was friendly and on top of it. I ordered the buttermilk chicken tenders w fries. My husband ordered the turkey club. My chicken was juicy and tender, the breading was crispy not greasy. The noise was incredible, it was like a day care!! We could barely speak to each other. I had the chilaquilas the taste was good however they were completely soggy. My husband had the Californian omelette- it was decent but could use more cheese. The bloody isn't worth the $. We make it a point to try bloodies at every restaurant and I won't be getting this again. The noise is enough to make us never come back and we are locals. read more

Great idea! Donuts and a restaurant. We stopped here before the train ride. I had a chocolate glazed raised donut. It was delicious but very sweet. Stopped by this morning to grab a bagel sandwich and breakfast burrito from their "carry out" area... And here we are 30 minutes later still waiting. People that came in way after we did have gotten their orders? WTF? The explanation is that they are "backed up" I would NOT recommend this place no matter what the food tastes like. Finally got our order after 40 minute wait and the breakfast burrito was cold in the middle...apparently they don't cook the potatoes, they just slap them in there. read more

Great breakfast spot. They have a counter up front for quick orders. There you can choose from donuts, pre-made burritos, fruit cups, and more. In the back, there is a dine in area. There you can choose from the full menu. It took about twenty minutes for the food to come out. The restaurant is clean, staff is friendly, and food is great. We all enjoyed our breakfast. read more

Young lady at the counter ask for my order 3 times and each time as I began to speak her attention was diverted by something. 4th time it was her brother coming thru the door and she called a new girl over to take our order saying she wanted to help her brother instead, right in front of us! New girl was fine, but then as she rang us up the girl who was to busy talking to her brother jumped in for 3 seconds to tell the new girl to tell us that 3 of our half dozen were "premium doughnuts" and counted as 2 so we would have to put 3 back and that we would only get 3 doughnuts for our half dozen price of $5.50! Ask for manager and young man was curt and unconcerned that the girl had been so rude and stuck by the "premium policy", even though no exceptions listed on the board. Emailed owner from contact info on the website a few days prior to this review. Apparently she is also unconcerned about how her employees treat her customers. read more

While in town visiting family, we rented skis at Hassle Free next door and popped in to get pre-skiing breakfast. After drinking my parent's "coffee" all week (sorry mom & dad) DD's java tasted amazing. I love that what we call "breakfast tacos" in Austin are supersized into "breakfast burritos" in Colorado! Gentle reader be wary: these things are huge! I ordered a small "meat burrito" (eggs, green chile, bacon, cheese and some other delicious carnivorous treats) packed into a tortilla bigger than my face and rolled up. A small was at least the size of two Austin tacos. The large? I think 4 Austin tacos could have fit inside it, and a side of bacon too. Breakfast was so good we skiied way past lunch! So good we went in for another visit too! Who says things are bigger in Texas? Durango Doughworks wins, hands down. read more

If I am ever back in Durango I will definitely revisit Doughworks. I had a sweet potato, green chili, bacon, and goat cheese scramble that was outstanding. Their homemade doughnuts (We had a Berliner with Bavarian Cream) are incredible, and to top it off, the hot chocolate was made with real milk. It's great when they're great and sucks when they are completely dropping the ball. Unfortunately, I have experienced more of the latter with this place. Service can be downright awful and food preparation can completely miss the mark. I recently had their meat breakfast burrito and it was a sopping wet mess of uncooked egg and watery potatoes. The menu indicates tons of potential, but the execution fails to deliver. In fact, your meal almost seems like it won't be delivered. One hour and 25 minutes later we finally got our breakfast. Seriously? It's eggs, potatoes and toast folks. Our server told us two girls called in and the owner & manager had to cook. Judging from the other reviews (which I wish I would have read earlier) the excessive wait time is not uncommon. I wanted to like this place a lot. I remember after it opened, in a spot cursed by multiple failing businesses preceding it, I wanted Doughworks to succeed. I stopped by today for a hamburger and fries. The waiter informed me that they were "out of hamburger." Okay, so I ordered a Caeser wrap. The waiter came back and told me they were out of that too. Seriously? The green chili soup (which they did have) was quite good though they did put a lot of potatoes in (filler?). The waiter was very apologetic, but a restaurant out of burgers when there is a whole menu page dedicated to different kinds of burgers? Would I eat here again? Maybe. But there are a lot of restaurants in Durango that serve the items on their menus or warn you ahead of time that they're out of X or Y. So then again, maybe not. We went twice in a week. Four teenagers and two adults. Great service both visits. First visit we sat in dining room and had breakfast burritos and home made donuts. Server was funny and sweet. Kids loved it so when we needed a quick to-go breakfast we stopped here again. This time ordering from the to-go area before our drive to Mesa Verde. Great food, great servers. Pretty good location for breakfast but it sure fills up quickly so you may have to wait for a table! My mom and I stopped by for breakfast on a Friday morning and it was packed! Thankfully we snagged the last table for two right up front. Our waitress was hard to find when it came time to order, but another waiter stepped up and took our order. I had the California omelette and my mom had the Durango omelette. I ordered the omelette without cheese but when I got it I realized that I probably should have left the cheese because all the meat filling was falling apart without it. However it was still yummy especially with the avocado on top. Potatoes on the side were tasty, but they don't have really salsa here only Pace. Service was pretty fast considering how many customers there were. I was too full to get a doughnut this time so I'll have to come back for one! read more

Doughworks is great for donuts (the place in town for donuts), bagels with assorted schmears, breakfast wraps, sandwiches, etc - to go. There is a dining area and you can get all of the above while dining in, too, or order from the menu with breakfast served all day (they close at 3:00 pm daily), or select from the lunch menu. Staples include amazing omelets, pancakes, etc., as well as sandwiches made from Boar's Head meats, good cheese selection, salads, etc. Coffee is Desert Sun, which is sold locally in stores, too. Atmosphere is upscale diner-ish without the greasy spoon-ish feeling. Service is quick, counter staff very helpful and cordial, friendly, lots of help appear to be local college kids working their way through school - so good for them (as I heard that those who open have to be at work at 5:30 am, wow). On this note, I heard of one counter help person who was a bit testy, which is unfortunate, who knows how long that person will be there (which can happen anywhere). BUT, on the whole, the place is true to what it claims to be, great breakfast, dependable food, and a great place to stop on the way up to the mountain for a day of playing in the snow. Located on North Main and convenient to other shops, the rec center, the library, and yes, on the way to Purg or up into the mountains for a backpacking trip. Previous reviewers' ratings run the gamut, but it's a local institution, (of which there are many in this small mountain town), that deserves a 5 star rating for staying true to its niche - quality food at a reasonable price, and generally, fast and friendly service. Under new management and the dining are was closed. That was one of the first things said to my wife and and I while trying to go back to the dining area. We are locals and eat here once or twice a month. They offered us doughnuts and breakfast burritos. First off they wanted over $6 for a burrito no bigger than my hand. I don't think so. So over priced. So we went to the doughnuts. They had just brought out fresh chocolate glaze. My wife and I ordered one each and some chocolate cake doughnuts. The glaze doughnuts were heavy and full of grease. Not light and fluffy like they should be. The chocolate cake had almost zero flavor maybe even a hint of blueberry. Third time is a charm? I gave Durango Doughworks one more try and now that I am a seasoned vet, my advice is to stick to the overpriced doughnuts. They offer a creative menu that lures you in but then right as your paying big money for a good meal they make you take your breakfast from under the heat lamp next to the cash register (like the ones you see in a truck stop). Yummy-lukewarm, soggy, pre-wrapped organic gourmet burritos! If you want quick, stick to your guts, okay for now road grub then swing on it. For a good sit down meal head to a diner! read more

It's an average little doughnut and coffee shop with a local feel. The breakfast sandwiches we hearty and warm. I have also had the cinnamon roll, pine cone, and the medium roast coffee. They were fresh and were good enough to make me stop there again. The price is very fair. read more

I don't eat breakfast out much, but when I do I want either an amazing and innovative place (think Snooze or Lucile's in Denver) or a straight up diner (like the Durango Diner and Oscar's here in town). Doughworks is sort of a fusion of a doughnut place and an Einstein Brothers that also serves breakfast burritos. That being said, the doughnut I had was great. It was an old-fashioned with chocolate frosting and it was cakey and moist and sweet. It came with E's breakfast but we fought over it down to the crumbs. And since there aren't many doughnut shops in town, this may become my number-one choice... E got the breakfast special, 3 eggs scrambled with sausage and cheese and a side of potatoes. It filled him up, which is sometimes a challenge to do, and he certainly enjoyed it. I ordered a bagel sandwich with egg and sausage. This is where I surprised even myself. I am known to be a purist - I usually don't alter my food in any way when it is presented to me. I don't add salt, pepper, hot sauce or anything else that might taint my food. But my bagel sandwich, though good, was lacking flavor. So I grabbed the nearest bottle of Cholula and *gasp!* tainted my food. Sadly, it added a lot to my breakfast. Oh dear. I live in Durango, not far from Doughworks. Every now and then I get an urge for a quick decent breakfast burrito to go. I picked up a sausage and egg on bagel sandwich this morning and it was gross. Inedible. The eggs were overcooked, burnt, and rubbery. Only teeny speckles of sausage. If there was cheese in there I didn't see it or taste it. When the new owners took over this place a few years ago, the food improved in the prices went up. Now the food is gross, still with high prices. This place only survives on tourist traffic, this time of year skiers. Locals... Take your business elsewhere. read more

This restaurant is so good. I love the fact that they have "to go" items available right when you walk in. This is an excellent option when the dining room is busy. The food is delicious. I liked this place a lot at first. I have been a few times over the years since they first opened and everything was generally really good. I started going in on an almost daily basis about a month ago for two weeks. By the second week, I couldn't make sense why they would run out of certain coffee early in the morning on some days and yet have it others. I THOUGHT the purpose of a business is to draw customers in with what they are wanting to buy. Coffee seems like something that would be simple to make a bit more if it runs out so early in the morning. I became even more confused when some staff would be willing to make more and others (yes they do have some rude staff) just didn't really seem to care or have some ambiguous directive of when and when they aren't supposed to make more coffee. I tried to email the owners about the experience I had and hopefully get a better effort to keep the service consistent. Instead I get a polite but self-righteous response from the manager on duty using the owners email account. (Really? What do the owners do besides nothing?) explaining their obsession with caring more about not wasting coffee than trying to keep customers happy. So that's the experience: hope that they have what you want. Otherwise, "We're the doughnut company, we don't care!". read more

They sold milk that was not just 1 day but was 3 days expired!! When I called to notify the manager they refused to talk to me. I finally spoke to the owner and I started by saying I had drank expired milk and instead of apologizing, she hung up on me!! I called again and the person that answered was rude and hung up on me! If they are selling expired milk that they are not checking on a daily basis, what other products are they letting expire in the kitchen, like eggs, sausage, cheese, etc.?!
