The good, everyone was super friendly and service was fast... The prices are great for the location. The 'oh my'... Our plastic cups were covered in mold and the food was either burned or not cooked. Durango Diner is now my 2nd favorite diner in the US. Mother Hubbards in Tucson is número uno, but that's for a different review. I have been here about ten times now, and have practically memorized the menu now. Get anything with the green chile and you will not be disappointed. Each time I go, Gary is a magician with the spatula and gives off an air of surliness which I believe every great short order cook should have. The only reason I don't give this place 5 stars is the quality of some of their ingredients, mainly on the Huevos rancheros. The tomatoes are flavorless, so I pick them off usually. Also, the tortillas are those chewy, preservative laden patties that Coloradoans love for some reason. A real flour tortilla only has five ingredients; flour, water, salt, baking powder and fat. Went here for breakfast. Ordered the ham and cheese omelette with a side of bacon. Thanks to Yelp reviews we decided to split the meal. It came out on 2 plates for us, thanks! Omelette was delicious, bacon was outstanding! Very thick cut! I like my hashbrowns a little more cooked. Only reason for not giving 5 stars: our meal came out in pieces. We got the bacon first. But that seems to be how they make it here. At least it was fluffy ! and something called the Cure. It's eggs and meat and stuff all piled up on a huge serving if hashbrowns covered in salsa. As a local I avoid this place like the plague, because it is so gross and unclean on the inside. There is being and old, well cleaned, established restaurant and then there's this place where I have heard other locals and ex employees talk about the cockroaches that run across the restaurant and in the back of the kitchen. Here is the deal on this place. GREAT breakfast and I mean GREAT. A real hash house here. But I did not give them 5 stars because they pissed me off by not telling me that they also service a bar with food down the street. So, we go in there and sit at the counter and wait 30 minutes and nothing, no food. I keep seeing orders going out the front door and find out they own a bar down the street. SO that means I am getting screwed here. I ask the waitress how long tell our orders come up and she says, 40 more minutes !!!!!!! Even though the place is not even full ????? That is BS. How about telling your customers what the hell is going on before they order and have to wait a 80 minutes to get an egg order. Rude and inconsiderate so I have to punish them with 2 star even though the food is great. On a week day it is prob not an issue. read more

One word, DIVE. This place is like childhood heaven. I swear I was sitting here with my grandpa at the age of six. I cannot give it enough stars. Hands down the best breakfast place in town. Generous portions, reasonable prices, and great staff that is normally the perfect amount of attentive. When you go, go hungry and try The Cure. Came here after seeing that my good friend Patrick S. had also been here, three years ago, and like it. A true greasy spoon diner, with a really long front counter and a few tables in back. They are very friendly here, service is quick, and the food is good. I had a hotcake and could only finish half of it, it was massive. Don't come here if you don't want to spend the rest of the day smelling like bacon grease - not necessarily a bad thing, but you may attract bears when hiking in nearby Mesa Verde. read more

This place offers mostly standard diner fare, with a few southwestern twists. Needing a hearty breakfast, I ordered the huevos rancheros, and there was more food than I could eat. Old school greasy spoon type spot in every way. Big menu of average breakfast food served in gigantic portions by a waitress who would be much more friendly to you if you weren't an out-of-towner. The charm of these spots is usually the cheap prices, which is where the Durango Diner fails to be a usual diner. I got the chile relleno and eggs which was pretty good, but it didn't seem like they really tried on my fiance's huevos rancheros. This seems to be a place living on its reputation and/or on people nursing hangovers (water and B-vitamins, you guys! Much better for you than pounds of hashbrowns...) Lucky enough to walk in and find seats at Durango Diner! I have tried to have breakfast here on a couple occasions and have been unable to due to the wait. We walked right in and found two seats! I love the feel of this diner, it's old-school and you get to watch food being cooked and waiters running around. We ordered a sausage omelet, a side of French toast, and the French bread breakfast sandwich with sausage and eggs. My omelet was pretty good and I l enjoyed their hashbrowns a lot! My boyfriend liked his French toast and breakfast sandwich. We got all three plates plus two coffees for about $30. Service was excellent; my coffee cup was always full. Every time I go back to Durango, I think about the Durango Diner. It's a mainstay establishment, and has some of the best damn green chile in the nation, in my opinion. In fact, you can try it - they sell their green chile online and will ship it to you! I have two jars of it in my cabinet now, and I'm waiting for a good reason to break it out and eat it with steak and eggs. If you haven't had hatch green chile yet, and you're looking for the old-school cafe-bar experience in an old western town, look no further than Durango Diner!
