This place is the ultimate hash slingin' house and we loved it. We stopped in while driving through town with our 9 month old son who's eyes popped out when we say the pancake that he was served. It was like a manhole cover in front of him and he was in heaven. My omelet was outstanding and the coffee just doesn't get any better that at this place. We were seated in one of the few tables in the back the waitress was all over us whenever we needed anything. GREAT service! The only thing I would change is the fact that most of the seats are at the counter. They need more tables but then again there is not enough room, I know, I know! Great food with very good service. Green Chili Overdose Durango Diner has been around for many years. The boss must really like John Wayne since there are a bunch of photos of "The Duke" everywhere. Service is casual and friendly as you would expect in a diner. We had eaten a lot of green chili as we traveled around New Mexico in the previous weeks. So we were looking forward to the Durango Diner and their claims of great green chili. Two of us got the green chili cheeseburger. In New Mexico we were used to a small amount of green chili on the burger to give it a great kick. At the Durango Diner they serve the hamburger open-faced with a huge ladle of soupy green chili sauce over everything. The bun is immediately turned to an unpleasant mush. The accompanying fries were greasy. The third person in our party got scrambled eggs with green chili. She had the sense to ask for the chili on the side. It was another huge serving of the same watery, soupy sauce. The scrambled eggs were fine. Maybe that's just the way they serve it in Colorado. But we won't be returning to the Durango Diner. read more

I am very disheartened to write this review as we are locals and have eaten at Durango Diner many times. The food is American diner style always good, big portions, and many menu choices. Usually the wait staff is on top of things, but today we had our first bad experience. We ordered, and my husbands toast is almost brought out immediately. My food came out about 10-12 minutes later (allowing my husband's toast to get cold). TOAST IS NOT AN APPETIZER! People order it to eat with their meal - common sense. My husband got to watch me eat until I completely finished my meal, about 8-10 minutes later. As I finished my meal, the waitress came out with my husband's food, which at this point he was so frustrated and just wanted to leave. Our waitress justified the delay by saying "foods take different times to cook", acting as if it's not her fault. My husband had to explain to her that all foods cook at different times, professional kitchens should be serving plates all at once to their guests, not piece meal. I don't know if our waitress said something to the older woman that cashed us out, but she was extremely RUDE to my husband. If her reaction was because of us sending the food back, rather than getting upset as us, the staff should be trained on better service techniques. Unfortunately, this experience put a bad taste in our mouth and we will not be returning for a while. PLEASE TRAIN THE STAFF BETTER. read more

Main seating is at bar in front of grill, so you watch them make your food, which I always think is pretty cool (and they make hash browns from scratch)..food is good, but wait time and terrible service are hard to look past. Great breakfast, I had the 1/2-n-1/2 biscuits and gravy. Large biscuit with sausage gravy on one side and green chili on the other with an egg on top. We ride our motorcycles in to Durango every year on our way to the IAFF Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Colorado Springs and this will be our go-to breakfast stop from now on. read more

This was my favorite place to eat while in Durango! The first morning we were in Durango we were looking for a local breakfast place and figured we would try it out so we went. When we got there, the staff greeted us right off the bat and offered coffee before we sat down! We then got a recommendation for "The Cure" and that was one of the best breakfasts I think I have ever had!!! Also they were very attentive and made sure that we were doing well and I don't think my coffee mug got below half the whole time I was there! It was so good and I was so pleased with everything and everyone that we decided to go back for breakfast the following day!! This day I got their 2 stack of blueberry hot cakes that reminded me of a 2 layer cake! They were also to die for! Great establishment and so happy we tried it when we were passing through town!! My wife and I ate here for breakfast this morning. The only thing that wasn't amazing was the coffee, but I never expect great coffee at a diner. We have limited time in Durango so we ordered a few things so we could try multiple things. First, the cinnamon rolls look amazing, they taste even better and just get better as you get closer to the middle. Their biscuits served warm with honey are absolutely mouth watering. The French toast wasn't the best we've had, but it was pretty darn good. The bacon, egg and cheese sandwich on French bread was amazing, and the hash browns left us wanting more. All that ended up only being $20.50. So price= awesome, food=amazing, and service was friendly. read more

Nice atmosphere of a locals place. Food was plentiful and tasty. I got the eggs and chile relleno plate. The relleno was very nicely crisped and tasted great! Problem was the restroom. Great local diner. I got the cure with sausage. Anything with their green chili is going to be great. I would suggest getting bacon however, the only reason why I got sausage is because a lot of diners skimp out on their bacon but after eating there I doubt this place would do that. read more

Durango needs the Diner! Bacon-Veggie Cure is simply the best way to get rid of a hangover. It's a diner, and one of the last stands of reality in a town quickly turning into Boulder/Yuppieville. They'll even deliver your breakfast next door to El Rancho (excellent bar) so you can have a bloody mary with it. Who could ask for anything more!?!?! read more

Only been here once and no plan to eat here again. I was served a pancake that was burnt. It is pretty pathetic that both the cook and the waitress thought that it was acceptable to serve a burnt pancake, as this really negatively effects the taste. I am not an overly picky eater and can't think of a time I have sent back food. I didn't send back the pancake because I didn't want to make a fuss as I was eating with some friends. Quality control that relies on people sending food back is not effective, which it seems like this place was relying on the day I was eating there. read more
