Beignets - Honey Lavender Latte (~$5)

    Beignets

Beignets is on the list of places that I wanted to check out if I'm ever in Denville and I finally…read moremade it. Let me first start off by saying that the beignets I had were heavenly. Light, fluffy, not too sweet, with a messy but delicious showering of powdered sugar. I would definitely stop by for their fresh, fluffy beignets to be eaten fresh because they make them fresh with every order! Just for their amazing beignets, it should be 5 stars. My friend also got a chai latte, which my friend actually really liked. She said it was one of the best she's ever had. I tried and it was really good, just super sweet. Taste-wise though - delicious! BUT I gave 4 stars because when I went, they were out of the other things I wanted and it wasn't clearly advertised so the poor girl helping me had to keep telling me sad news, one after another. I wish there was a sign stating if something was unavailable or they should've put away displays if items were not available. My friend wanted gelato because there was a picture of it displayed, but they said they didn't have that. Is it only a summer thing? Were they not serving gelato just for that day? I don't know, it was just unavailable. They really should not mislead customers by displaying the picture of the pretty gelato (the picture looked really good!). This also meant that I couldn't get the affogato because they weren't serving gelato. Again, the menu didn't clearly state they were not serving that drink. I also stopped by here specifically because I saw an Instagram post that their hot cocoa was one of the best. The "toasted" one was the one I wanted, but it was not available because they didn't have the marshmallow. Again, that one wasn't covered with a sign that it was unavailable. I ended up getting a drink somewhere else. Also, when we wanted a receipt, the girl helping us said it wasn't working. So it was just a bad timing that day. Poor girl was super nice as she delivered rejections, but I was still constantly disappointed. Again, if I'm ever in the area, I would definitely be back for their beignets and hopefully that next time, the menus will be more clear about what they have and don't have. Things to know before you go: -They have a lot of different donut flavors and fillings, which I didn't try. But make sure to prepare enough time to wait for them to be made fresh and depending on how busy they are at the time you go. It looks like it's worth the wait because so many people got several donuts. -There were about four 2-person tables and one table for 4-5 people and a couch for 2 people to sit snugly. So, not the best place for big groups.

The signature item, classic New Orleans beignets, is "to die for" ... I get 4, and eat one in the car as I drive home since they are like the donuts fill my little buggy with the lovely aroma of freshly baked yummy goods. I urged a friend and her sister to give the place a try and even sprung for a gift card to tempt them to switch from Starbucks. When I asked if I was successful, I was told, "I love beignets"! Mission accomplished m Love this place ... the coffee is great too!

The place is immaculate and the smell of freshly baked scrumptious delights are sure to make you smile and feel as if you're in heaven. Here's what was purchased: - 3" Cheesecake - 4/5 stars. Smaller version of a NY Cheesecake but tastes lighter. - Tiramisu cake - 4.5/5 stars. Very tasty and light. Her cousin, Tiramisu in a cup stole the show, though. 5/5 if I hadn't had her cousin. - Tiramisu cup - 5/5 stars. You are treated to a masterpiece. The mascarpone, the shot of coffee, the sweetness of the creame all play exquisitely well together. - Fruit Tart - 4/5 stars. Fresh berries were ripe and sweet. The crust was not soggy, at all. The custard was smooth and exceptional. - Creme Brulee - 4.5/5 stars. Not overly sweet and pure bliss. The top lager of touched crust, didn't hold up to the travel, sadly. It was soft but still delightful. - Custard cup - 4.5/5 stars. This reminded me of a Portuguese egg tart but better. - Giant horn - 5/5 stars. The outside crust was flaky and perfect. The inside filling was the perfect balance as it was silky smooth and delightful. Not overly sweet which pairs perfectly with coffee or tea. Stop reading this review and go get your edible delights.

They brought with them the best of mostly southern Italian and Sicilian pastries, cakes, and cookies. These delicacies all share a mixed past, some equally as French as they are Italian, and others showing Arabic-Sicilian influence. Many of the items continue to be made in the Italian tradition, while others have morphed into something uniquely Italian-American. Located off 46 East in Fairfield, this family-owned and operated establishment, founded in 1962, is one of our favorites for sweet desserts and Italian pastries. Upon arriving on this Christmas Day at Calandra's Italian and French Bakery, a steady stream of patrons entered its door to an interior space big and nicely designed, awaiting their turns on several available lines. On display in their numerous cases, there were cookies to cannolis, an assortment of cookies, pies, cakes, custom cakes, jarred sauces, and homemade pasta. I decided on a coconut custard pie, a pecan pie, and several pasteis de nata. Everything was so good and simply amazing, with a variety of freshly baked goods that cater to all tastes, especially the pasteis, just how the bakeries in Newark's Ironbound district make them. Will definitely be returning here for the next event.

I absolutely loved the idea and the overall vibe of the cafe. That said, we came specifically for coffee and mochi donuts, and unfortunately those fell a bit short. The coffee was just okay, and the mochi donuts weren't great - ours tasted on the staler side, which was disappointing. Overall, I really think this place has a lot of potential. The service is great and the concept is very unique for this area, and with some improvements to the quality and freshness of the food and drinks, it could easily become a go-to spot. Worth checking out for the aesthetic, but I'm hoping the menu catches up to how cool the space is.

The cafe is pretty big, they have a separate room for events! Plenty of photo ops throughout. They have a menu of sandwiches as well as pastries and such. It was approx $15 for both which is expensive but I'd rather pay that to a small business owner than some big corporation.

There also isn't a clear menu at this location with prices at former Fort Lee location, there was. I really enjoyed the cannoli donut, the spring special: guava and cream cheese donut, the Bavarian cream filled cronut, and the cold brew infused donut - it was my favorite. It was so soft, not too strong and not too sweet. The perfect balance and the cream on top was just delectable and fluffy. I also tried the Dubai chocolate but was not a fan of the very sweet pistachio filling inside, the Italian rainbow doughnut was also very sweet, did not enjoy it. Overall, I enjoyed some of the donuts but a couple of them were too sweet for my preference. The ambience is chill. I don't really see it as a place where I'd hang out but maybe some people would! Service was fine. The woman at the counter knew all of her donut flavors and gave us some recommendations Parking is street parking so if you get there early as soon as they open up, you should be able to find parking. I can't speak for later on on the weekends or weekdays, though.

They were of the potato variety. Since they were made to order, they came out piping hot. My thoughts on each are below. The temperature really made a difference as I tried a few bites after they cooled down and it was not the same. All of the donuts were appropriate in size and somehow appeared very light. I wonder if that was attributed to the potato variety. I just could not believe how much the hot temperature made a difference in all four. Original Cinnamon Sugar - This was very good with plenty of sugar present. Raspberry Jam - There was a ton of raspberry jam here and it was great. Nutella - There was an excessive amount of Nutella here and it worked out well with the hot donut texture. It was unreal. Cannoli - This was great too. I really liked the melted chocolate chips in the cannoli cream. Will I go back? Oh, easily.

They also have other small desserts like cannoli, cookies, biscotti, and pizza, burgers, fries - all freshly homemade. Anyway, ordered the cinnamon sugar and butter glaze donut, (fresh and best enjoyed hot) and it was so light, fluffy, and not overly sweet!Looking to try their other donuts on the menu!
