The food was fantastic. The waiters didnt speak much English, but they were pleasant and tried their best. Truly the food was great and very fast. Work next door and will be returning. The price is a little high for me, but it is Cambridge and i just work here. read more

Seriously messed up experience! Stupid people close at 4 am but still accepted my order for delivery. I mean why??? Then no one answered the call after 4 AM! Intensely annoying experience. We could have easily ordered from some other place instead if waiting for so long! Dont order from here at any cost! read more

Ordered through grubhub and after 2 hours we called to check if the order was getting delivered anytime soon, they asked us to call grubhub to cancel the order. We had to spend an hour on the phone for an order that never arrived. read more

Soup dumplings tasted okay but oozed the most disgusting phlegm looking liquid. The fried rice with chicken was just straight up salt no flavor. I definitely won't be ordering from here again :( read more

Horrible experience! First, the food can't even compare to my homemade. The steamed buns are stuffed with pork with strong freezer odor and equally strong scallion and ginger that try to cover that meat odor. The vegie is under cooked. The tofu leaf is as chewy as rubber. I saw some US people eating there. I hope they won't be misled and thank that is how Chinese food is like. When it comes to checking out, we show the waitress a $10 off coupon from a deal tracker website that this restaurant sponsors. The younger waitress accepted it and just asked us to hold on. But later a senior waitress came, complaining to us that they don't really recognize this promotion. She kept complaining how disadvantaged they are in this promotion and telling us that some other customers came with the coupon but spent very small amount there (But we spent more than 50 in a party of 3). What else can I say? We are just innocent customers who got this coupon online and used it as instructed by the rules specified in the coupon. After a long complaint, she said their boss agreed to give the discount. Then she took 10 bucks out but required us to pay in cash instead of by card in a commanding tone. I think the place really benefits from its location that it is between the two universities here, which makes it a ideal place to get-together. But I personally won't schedule any meeting with my friends here. I would also persuade my friend out of doing so. read more

Had no idea what to expect before coming in, but the place is well-lit and very nice. The food definitely lived up to the interior as the steamed pork and leek dumplings were juicy and full of flavor. We also ordered the General Gau's chicken which after having had many of those from many different restaurants, the one from here is easily one of the best. I'll definitely be coming back and am hoping to try out more dumplings and maybe some of the items on the wok. read more

Absolutely fantastic, some of the best food I have had in my entire existence-- no exaggeration. I will remember this food forever. It was like I had crossed the pearly gates into heaven itself. Granted, I visiting my friend in Boston who knew what to order, so maybe that helped guide my experience heavenward. We ordered the pork soup dumplings, the Singapore noodles with chicken & shrimp in curry sauce, and the sautéed string beans. Everything was perfectly cooked and warm and so flavorful that it destroyed me. I also loved the fact that there was a pot of green tea for sharing on the table. It was also super affordable, especially if you split the food with another person. I miss it already. I am angry that I live nowhere near this place. I recommend that you go there. It gets busy, especially around dinner time and when students are around, but the wait was no longer than 15-20 minutes and the food was WELL worth the wait. The place itself has plenty of seating and a general atmosphere of bonhomie that makes it feel like home. read more

Maybe not the best dumplings ever, but a great value. This place is a good combination of price, portions, variety, fast service, and decent overall quality. We actually like the clam dishes quite a bit here, along with the fried dumplings. They are very fast for takeout orders as well and are usually ready before their estimate if you call and tell them you are in a hurry. read more

As a vegetarian, this place is one of my favorites, with a wide variety of delicious vegetarian options. My top dishes are the shredded potato with hot and sour sauce, the peanut and sesame cold noodles, the stinky tofu, the spicy salt and pepper tofu, and the ma po tofu - all have amazing flavor. I've ordered delivery a couple of times during the covid pandemic, and the food held up well as takeout (even the stinky tofu - although sadly they've now run out of that). read more

The food is generally very good, and waitstaff are pleasant and friendly. Four stars for that, minus two for management that is apparently unable/unwilling to control disruptive customers. Be forewarned-- if you start your meal seated next to a large table of people pounding beers and shouting obscenities, you will end your meal next to the same (but louder). You may even witness them not being refused _additional_ alcohol. I understand that dealing with a drunken table isn't an easy task, but you need to do the right thing. read more

A great place to get a large quality of solid Chinese food in Cambridge. The combination of dumplings and buns is always great for sharing with a large group of people. Special favorites include soup dumplings, Szechuan fish soup and mushroom buns. The service can be a little uneven and the restaurant itself is always extremely loud and crowded, but perfectly acceptable, especially compared to other Chinese options nearby. read more

WOW. This place is amazing! Yummy high quality food and you dont break the bank at all. My husband and I are regulars! Best stuff: - All their dumplings - especially the soup dumplings! - Lamb skewers - Kung Pao Chicken - Singapore fried Rice - Chicken corn soup -Hot & Sour soup read more

This place has incredible food and I'm pretty sure that many of the negative reviews here are at least a little bit racist. The soup dumplings are amazing, and I would recommend the eggplant and the Chinese broccoli or sautéed greens to accompany whatever heavier dishes you order. read more

All right guys, this place is good if you know what to order. Here is the full list of good stuff: sliced fish Szechuan style, shredded beef with longhorn peppers, and the mini soup dumplings with pork. For the vegetarians, order ma po tofu, eggplant, and the bok choy with mushroom. For people who want dumplings the shandong dumplings are not bad. (For the people who like the more Americanized Chinese food and/or don't like spicy food, Kung pao chicken, rice cake with chicken, and the sizzling beef with black pepper sauce is pretty good. The best stuff is still the spicy Szechuan food though, since this is a Northern Chinese restaurant.) PS don't forget to order the white rice! Helps to balance the spice! read more

I'm a big fan of the Chinatown location, so I'm thrilled to see the new Dumpling House open in my neighborhood. Already the lines are long, but I've been twice since opening, ordering old favorites from the other location and trying new dishes with friends. I see weight gain in my future. The sliced fish never disappoints. If you can take a little heat, this is what to get. Don't be scared away by the glowing red broth - as long as you don't chew a whole chili pepper, you'll experience only a pleasant numbing tingle that dissipates into saltiness. Mini clams with basil were mild and refreshing. A table favorite - we finished every last one. Northern teriyaki meat sticks are tasty, but very spicy, beware. The lamb was lean and soft and better than the fatty, tougher pork. I'm not a huge fan of the soup dumplings, having blistered a cheek on them before, but I do like the pork and leek dumplings. The soup dumplings are served with a vinegar and ginger dipping sauce instead of the sweet soy and green onion sauce that typically accompanies dumplings. I'm told this is authentic, but I do prefer the sweet stuff. read more

After patronizing this place for months, today they let me down terribly! I bragged about their salt and pepper fried fish to my family and friends so much that I brought four orders of it tonight and Wow! MINCED FISH LOST IN FRIED DOUGH! I am So embarrassed and pissed, that I am just about bringing it back for a refund! But I'm going to pass and chalk it up as a loss! read more

Highly recommend the Xiao Long Bao or mini soup dumplings. Best I've had in a couple of years.

Don't order takeout from this place. They NEVER have the food ready when they say. It doesn't matter what time of day or how busy it is.

Had the best pork dumplings, spring rolls and noodles. Had the best service and some nice tea.

Regretting not visiting this place earlier! They have a good variety of authentic Chinese dishes - out of everything I've tried so far they haven't disappointed ! The servers are friendly and the taste / portion is quite good for the price point. Will definitely visit again and often. read more

With a name like The Gourmet Dumpling House you would expect dumplings from out of this world. NOT the case. Dumplings were tiny and not very tasty. Ginger sauce was over spiced with ginger peels and very vinegary. Combo plates were ok but small amounts. When I asked for tea they said both their tea machine were broken.. How about hot water and a tea bag. Very disappointed!! read more

Food is so fresh and delicious! And Ubereats delivers to quickly. The quality of ingredients is well worth the price!

I think this is going to be my new go-to places for dumplings now! I came here on a Tuesday afternoon around 1iish and it was still pretty busy. The restaurant is really spacious and the menu is really extensive. Half of the items on the menu are spicy, but you can request it to not be spicy. This is especially good for customers who like a certain dish but cannot eat spicy food, like me. I ordered the mini soup dumplings, pan fried dumplings, sizzling beef with black pepper sauce, and clams! I think the highlight of the meal was definitely the mini soup dumplings. Mmmmm it's so juicy and full of meat! The perfect soup dumpling is when you bite into it and all this yummy flavorful soup fills your spoon. The pan fried dumplings are really good too! I highly recommend it. The beef was cooked to perfection and went really well with a bowl of rice. The clams were just okay. I bit into a lot of sand and it wasn't pleasant. Our waiter was really friendly and attended to us when we needed him. I think I'll be back mainly for the dumplings! read more

Food is ok. Service is less than mediocre, slow, chaotic, very disorganized. Hygiene needs improving. Tea cup is not clean. There was one time I dined there with several colleagues, some of them threw up the next morning. read more

This is my new favorite Chinese place. It's in a good location (close to MIT and Harvard), has great authentic food, and pretty good service on top of that. We went there with a party of four and got Xiao Long Bao, the Szechuan spicy fish, and an assortment of dumplings. The spicy fish was impeccable, pretty much everything you would expect if you had gone to a restaurant in China and ordered it. The Xiao Long Bao nailed it as well and had a lot of flavor. The service was also courteous. Although the place was packed we got tea and water while waiting and the servers were attentive enough to always fill up our tea or water when they started to run low - something that doesn't always happen at Chinese restaurants at rush hour. The food also was flying out of the kitchen and we probably got all 6 of our dishes within 20 minutes. When my parents are in town, this is the restaurant I'm going to bring them to. read more

My husband and I love coming here. Always able to get a table right away, great service and great food. We always leave happy and full. This place has become a regular place for us, coming all the way from Bedford for the dumplings. read more

Inedible. Fried rice was steamed, General Gaos wasn't just not spicy but both mushy and undercooked. Soup dumpling filling unbalanced with broth and drowning in black vinegar, crab Rangoon with a texture like wallpaper paste, flat noodles with beef like absolutely nothing and an ant crawled out of the bag of lamb skewers. The only halfway decent item was the chicken wings. I've had decent food eating in but this was a big swing and a disappointing miss. read more

Dumpling House is one of my spots. It's a place filled with memories of celebratory dinners and impromptu meet ups with good friends. It's also the place I go to after a long, crappy day and stuff myself with soup dumplings, spicy peppered tofu, sweet and sour fish, and yogurt soju. The service isn't always perfect, and sometimes you're seated too close to another awkward couple, but all in all it's worth it because it's the kind of restaurant you sit yourself down at and feel like you're at home. read more

Made our first trip to the Dumpling House this evening. It is a very nice restaurant with a great vibe. The tables were busy with beautiful food and we wished we could try everything. We were there for the soup dumplings though and they were worth the trip. We loved everything about them. Juicy with lots of flavor! Very authentic. Great service, great food! We've already made plans to return next week. read more

I went here last night with my boyfriend. We were told the wait would be 45 mins and it was actually 30. Usually they under estimate wait times in restaurants but this was not the case here and I was happy about that. I ordered the chinese broccoli, some kind of dry chicken with chillies, a noodle dish and pork and shrimp dumplings. The dumplings were AWESOME! Just like home back in Toronto. The rest of the food was super boring and mediocre. I would not recommend waiting for 30 minutes to eat that. As the name of the restaurant suggests....the dumplings are amazing and in my opinion, the rest of the food kinda blows. read more

I love Dumpling House. However, disregard their name, while their dumplings are good, their specialties lie elsewhere. For example: Beef with longhorn pepper soup is battery acid hot with a horrifying amount of hot peppers (in the best way possible!). It's awesome. Salt and pepper calamari is perfectly fried and grease-less. Shredded potato dishes, rice cakes, twice cooked pork are all hits that we have tried in the past. Service is brusk but efficient. Parking can be tough as there are only a few metered spaces. Uber if you can unless you have a resident parking sticker for the side roads. read more

This one is the best Chinese restaurant I have ever had in US. I recommend the snacks which share similar tastes of those in China. Besides, they provide enough amount of each course. read more

Our group of 11 had a reservation for Saturday. Alas, there was an incident of a clogged drain and Dumpling House had to close for the weekend. However, we were not informed of the closure and had to move our dinner gathering to another location at the last minute! That was pretty inconsiderate and discourteous service. read more

I work across the street and have been excited for the place to open. In the two weeks since they have opened, I've tried them 3 times (for take-out only). Interesting food/menu, what I have had is good but unfortunately part of having a restaurant is the service. And with take-out, the service interaction should be nominal so to devote a large portion of a review to service is very odd. 1st time- anything on the first day I don't think is fair to review, as the first day can typically be about getting the kinks out. the whole fish tilapia was good but the length of time and dealing not knowing I was going to have a whole fish (& bones) to deal with while trying to eat lunch during a meeting because the meal took so long is hard to enjoy. 2nd time- ordering was in person for take-out and told 15-20 minute wait, took 30 minutes. The dumplings dough is puffier than I've expected but overall very yummy. 3rd time - ordered over the phone told 20-25 minutes. Walked over in 30 minutes based on last two interactions, waiting 10 minutes to pay and then the two ladies were arguing and I asked if my food was ready, the lady barked at me the kitchen never got my order. Maybe my low blood-sugar hit me at once but I sternly said back "well don't yell at me I ordered 40 minutes ago." She said no, no but then continued to argue with the other lady. I cut in to ask how long the wait would be since I had my meeting to get to, she said 15 minutes they could deliver. my office is across the street and it's more effort to go through the security than to walk over & I wouldn't have been in my meeting & didn't want our front desk holding my food. I turned and walked out, had to pick up my order another 30 minutes later. overall almost 1.5 hours to get $12 in take-out is difficult to get over. I wish I could talk about the food but what I get is pretty simply and I've been excited to try more of the items but I'll have to do it at night and who wants to go near their office building for dinner? This place is probably very good and I hope they do well, their menu is different than most places around here but just prepare yourself for long wait times during lunch (and maybe for dinner). read more

I would give this place zero stars if I could. Here's why: -When we went in, there were two women at the front, but they just ignored us in favor of their conversation until we said "hello......excuse me....?" and then we still waited for them to finish to be seated. -The table we were seated at was dirty. We had to ask the waitress to clean it twice and when she did, she wiped food remnants (a noodle and some rice) right into our laps and dashed off. - We asked for water three times and only got it after we were almost done with our food. - Vegetable Dumplings were tasteless and sad. The Hot and Sour Soup, usually my favorite, was so peppery it was inedible. The General Gao's chicken was hard nuggets with flavorless sugar syrup, with zero spice, even though we requested it be extra spicy. The Three Cup Chicken was also sickeningly sweet. The high point was the chicken and cabbage dumplings which were decent. The rice, which you have to pay extra for, was undercooked and hard. (How do you mess up RICE in a Chinese restaurant??) -Portions are on the small side, but since we didn't enjoy any of it, I guess that could be a plus. -The food came out at all different times, leaving my friend to hurriedly stuff her food down after hungrily watching us eat for 40 minutes. -We couldn't get them to bring us the check, and when she finally did, she stood there waiting for our money angrily, as if it was our fault that it took so long to pay. Believe me, we wanted to get out of there! The whole experience was at turns uncomfortable, disappointing, insulting, and infuriating. You couldn't pay me to eat there again. read more

We went here on a Saturday, got here early (10:30am), and got the last table just before the brunch rush hit. The XLBs are actually just ok (would still order again for sure but didn't blow my mind) -- the pan fried dumplings were delicious, the cucumber salad was super refreshing, and the Shanghai noodles were AMAZING (drooling now just typing this). Parking in this neighborhood was easy. You gotta try it! read more

Had spicy fish bowl, xiao long bao, and dried fried chicken. The food is authentic and excellent!

I went here many times. Usually the food is good. But this time, I find it is very tough for ppl bring their kids there. My kid is sleeping in stroller. They do not allow stroller into it during the lunch time. We had to stay at the hallway at this cold day. They claim the stroller will be dangerous for them to pass dishes. This is so ridiculous! Why keep the desk so tight inside!! read more

Came here with a friend for dinner on a Wed. They were very busy and we waited at least 45 minutes before we were seated. Food was average and service was almost non-existent as we had to flag servers down every time we need something - maybe they are still working out all the kinks and quirks. Food we ordered: Steamed bacon with fresh garlic - pretty good but can't eat too much of it as it is pretty oily. Xiao Long Bao (mini soup dumpling) - average compared to other places in Boston. The soup part was disappointing and didn't have much flavor or taste. Northern style Chinese lamb teriyaki - not bad and the meat was tender. Baby clams with basil - just ok as the flour-based sauce was too thick, which caused the clams to have a slight flour taste. String beans with dry shrimp - while this is not bad and tasted fine, it wasn't what we ordered. We ordered the string beans with minced pork but we didn't bother to send it back given we already took a bit and that they seem so busy with everyone running around. I think food at MuLan is much better but I would give it another try if there is no wait. read more
