I love their soup dumplings, some of their other dishes are hit or miss but overall it's our go to for take out or dining in for dumplings.

Goopy, gelatinous sauces made for gross dishes. Only one vegetarian (not vegan) dumpling or roll option. We tried this "spinach dumpling" after our server explained that it only had a very small amount of egg. It turned out to be basically mostly egg with trace amounts of spinach = yuk. The exposed lobster tank that I had to look at all dinner was a total turn off too. I don't like having to watch the lobsters getting fished out only to meet their especially cruel death. Worst food & dining experience I've had in a very long time. Overall yuk. Lots of other options, keep looking. read more

The food is good there. It's like traditional Chinese food, not the western style Chineses food. The place is small, so it's a little bit crowded, especially for 2 people. The table is small. read more

It's so great to have dumplings this good in Cambridge. There staple soup dumplings are my favorite filled with pork and broth. I've had great luck trying the others but often kind of just wished I ordered more of there regular dumplings. read more

Haven't made it to the flagship restaurant in Chinatown but this place was the perfect place to satisfy my dumpling craving! It was pretty full for a 2pm late lunch, and everything coming out of the kitchen looked so good I was hoping the waiters would accidentally leave it on my table. But we got our fair share of xiaolongbao (xlb) and shandong dumplings as well as shuizhuniurou. Starting with the dumplings, the skin is thicker than typical which helps esp with the soup dumplings (xlb) so that the liquid doesn't leak out. The meat is just tasty and pairs well with the soy sauce mix. And the spicy beef dish with cabbage, I can't even begin, the beef is so tender, and the spiciness is just beautiful. Love finding good food like this! read more

I thought it was a pretty legit chinese establishment. It has the right amount of casual food preparation, with ingredients that have a texture that makes you think this is a home cooked meal (as opposed to straight from a can). I do wish there was a tad less oil. Would order again. The soup dumpling lived up to expectations. The onions and beef had a bit more onion to beef than I'd like. Water spinach did its job filling the vegetable slot. read more

Great spot to meet up with friends. The service has always been efficient and friendly and the soup dumplings are as fresh as can be. Admittedly I haven't tried anything else off the menu but soup dumplings are there staple and they are superb! read more

My favorite restaurant in Boston or Cambridge. Used to go here 1/week at a minimum when I was living nearby. Still come back to Cambridge to go. Order anything except the Americanized stuff, not that it's bad, just a wasted opportunity. read more

I can't wait till I go back. The food was delicious as well as the people who works there. Very appreciated of their customers

Dumpling house is amazing. We had the shuizhurou. Amazing. And the xiangguo chicken. Equally amazing. The soup dumpling skins were a bit thick for my liking, but that meant that they held the juices better, so that definitely compensated. Everything seemed very fresh, definitely authentic, and I hope to return when I am back in Boston/Cambridge!! read more

Last night was my first time eating from this restaurant. It's a great environment. Very clean except for the smelly restroom. It was Full House and the food came really quick. The food is very tasty. However, their white rice needs more water to soften it. The rice is really hard and this skinny young fellow kept messing up everyone's check. So make sure when you are ready to sign or pay, check to make sure the food is the ones you ordered. You don't want to be paying someone else's expensive dinner. Make sure you get your credit/debit card back. That fellow needs to tug in his wrinkly shirt. Other than that, everything was great and my extremely tall waiter was very patient and informative. Will go back to eat again. This restaurant renovated much better than the previous vegan restaurant that was there. read more

I was dining with a group of four on a Saturday night. We ordered 6 dishes and they came out SO FAST. And they were all very good! This restaurant is highly efficient. We ate family style and I liked everything. Normally I dislike fish but the seafood stew with tilapia was very good. Chinese isn't typically my choice but if I'm in the mood for it again in Camrbidge, I'll come here. read more

Solid place for Chinese food in Cambridge! While I haven't been to any of the Chinese restaurants in Central Square, I can definitely say this beats out Yenching and Kong in the main Harvard Square... The soup dumplings (小笼包) were good, but still not comparable to the best soup dumplings I've had in Boston (at Jo Jo Taipei). I had water spinach with beef in sa cha sauce, which was delicious and savory. The wonton soup was also pretty good, and we ended up taking some of the beef as well as some leftover beef scallion pancake home. read more

Central Square has been waiting for some additional asian options for those too laze to cross the river to go to Chinatown. Well Dumpling House is a solid option that will satisfy those hankering for some good Chinese food. While there's always been Mulan and some other less than exciting options, this new Dumpling House is a great place for the normal chinese options just off of Mass Ave and between Harvard and Central. Their xiaolongbao won't blow your mind, but will satisfy a hankering. The singapore noodles and beef chow fun are good staples. This place just recently opened as well, and they're still working through some of the kinks. A few times we went service was painfully slow, and then another time it wasn't a problem. So I'd be patient and give it some time. Other than that, the waiters are shockingly nice for a Chinese restaurant and the place has decent space...both qualities you won't be finding in Chinatown. Dumpling House fills a needed niche in Central Square and I'm glad it's there. read more

Never, never again will I dine here. We made a reservation yet were seated 30 minutes late. This seems to be the only viable option for decent Chinese food in harvard/central square area but we found so many reasons to not return again, -- This place was unsanitary--tea stains on the spoon, dried up rice on the bowls, and green-colored food residue were stuck inside the tea cups. -- Once we were seated at our table, we waited another 20 minutes to place our order. The soup dumplings were ok, but not any better than what you would get in Chinatown. We also ordered eggplant with basil but it was too starchy. -- After we finished our dumplings, eggplant, and tea, we waited another half hour to get 3 other dishes we ordered and the soup. -- We were charged $6.50 for rice as they do not come with entrees. -- They missed one of our orders and we were short of the food we expected to have. -- The entire time, they never apologized for the inconvenience or the dirty serving ware, missing our order, or for the 30 minute break in between our first dish and the rest of our food. The only thing they kept repeating was, we are busy! -- And the most shady thing they offered us was to give us a 5% discount if we pay the entire bill in cash so that they can evade taxes on their gross income. The dining experience was extremely unpleasant and uncomfortable. We were upset we had to pay to have such an experience. read more

I've been to the Dumpling House twice now, and I've had great experiences both times. It's generally a good sign when there's a ton of people waiting for seats and a long line. Both times I've gone, there have been waiting lists. They're always busy, no matter for lunch or dinner. So, if you're in a rush, you should probably save this place for another day. However, it is very much worth the wait. I was very impressed their dumplings. I've tried both the pork and leek and pork cabbage dumplings. They're both very good. My friends also liked the mini soup dumplings as well, though I did not try them myself. The service is a little slow. I didn't get a refill on my drinks, but it wasn't terrible. The food more than made up for it. All in all a great experience. I definitely plan on going back, and I would definitely recommend. read more

I highly recommend the food here. I've been here several times but waited to write a review. The pork steamed dumplings are my favorite and I get it every time I'm there. The beef noodle soup spinach is also a favorite. The lunch order braised tilapia is a whole fish!!! And wicked good. Be sure to have an appetite because it's a large order. The shredded potato and hot sauce is very good. The spicy bamboo dish (shredded) is also really good :-) Service is uhm different. You might get different people that take your order, deliver it, give you your check and wrap up any leftovers. They are super fast during the encounter ie. Short with words, no small talk, simple. 3.5 stars really maybe almost 4. I'll visit again. Our dumpling adventures usually consists of ordering the same combination of dishes . . . three items that my wife and I make a perfect meal: soup dumplings, salt & pepper calamari, and scallion pancake. Their scallion pancake was probably the best I've ever had, light, crispy, not too oily. Generous portion. I'd give that dish a 5. Their salt & pepper calamari was very good. On the positive side they use real squid including tentacles. The portion, again, was good size. The breading was decent but didn't hold up very well and fell off the meat a bit. The oil was a little bit to the wrong side of fresh. Not horribly so but enough that it made the dish a bit less than crisp in flavor. So really a plus for fresh real squid, a negative for the oil. It was very well seasoned though. Lastly the reason most people go to a "dumpling house", the dumplings. We stuck with traditional pork soup dumplings. The filling was very tasty as was the soup. The accompanying sauce was prepared well. The only downside was that the wrappers were a bit thicker and tougher than other places we go. Also they use stainless steel steamers which I think don't hold moisture as well and they presented it without the cover so that may be a contributing factor in the wrappers. The restaurant was clean and the server was pleasant. So like I said overall above average. But the dumplings were not as good as other places in the area. read more

Ordered beef noodle soup and XLB on a weekday night. Beef noodle soup had overcooked noodles and a broth that tasted like soy sauce, cubed bullion disguised with chili oil. XLB was okay... skin was okay, but inside tasted somewhat overcooked, Ive had better, and I think boston can offer better. It may be the best you can get in Cambridge though... read more

My rating pretty much stays the same for this place upon a few more subsequent visits but I wanted to just confirm that the pork and chive dumplings are better boiled. As for the soup dumplings, the skin is a lot thicker than why I'm used to in Taiwan and at Ding Tai Fung but still tasty once you know that you're not really eating a refined soup dumpling. The spicy fish filet with tofu is also a descent dish. The fish is tender and the sauce is just the right amount of spicy to enjoy with rice. read more

Came here with some friends, kind of felt like we were being shoved into our seats, which wasn't the best, but the food was good. I'm a big fan of dim sum and this is quite similar, so that was great. But the miso soup was basically just salt, nothing else. yuck. Last ones to leave, and boy oh boy, they REALLY wanted us out. I can't really blame the staff for that, but it was quite unpleasant to be pushed out the door after filling the tummy with dumplings. read more

Pretty authentic for a chinese restaurant. However, the service is pretty average. I recommend the xiao long bao and the cumin lamb. The prices are 10-15 dollars per dish, which can add up pretty quickly. read more

I am normally not in Cambridge but was stopping by and a friend recommended Dumpling House and I was not disappointed. The soup dumplings are to die for! I couldn't stop eating them. On top of the amazing dumplings, we also had spicy salt and pepper wings (wow, so crispy and flavorful!) and pork buns that melt in your mouth. Parking was easy to find not such a busy area. This place is small but luckily we didn't have to wait too long on a Saturday night. The servers we had were all very nice and helpful with any questions we had of the menu. We ordered a few different kinds of dumplings-soup dumplings, pork, chicken the few I remember. All were delicious and we are huge fans of dumplings. I only take a star away because of the feeling of being cramped. We were right next to the host stand where people were being checked in, picking up take out, phones ringing for ordering, chaos! read more

We just came back from Dumpling House and we swore never to return. Zero Stars! First the noise. The restaurant is just plain old loud. At first we were seated next to a waitress station where the waitresses shouted at each other in loud, piercing voices. Then we were moved to a table near the kitchen; the problem there was a constant deep rumble. Staff members spoke loudly to each other over the heads of diners. With some exceptions, the wait staff tends to be inattentive and minimally polite. The food was also not good. The chicken and sausage fried dumplings weren't tasty and were very greasy. My wife had the Braised Tofu with Scallions and Vegetables; the tofu was uninteresting at best, drowning in soy sauce. The vegetables were just a couple of carrots and a small piece of broccoli. I ordered Sliced Beef Szechuan Style. What came out was a large bowl of beef slices and cabbage BOILED in a brown spicy soup. The beef was tender, but had no flavor of beef at all. The flavor of the soup was completely overwhelming. If I hadn't been so hungry, I would have sent it back. Just bad. Overall bad. read more

Food was okay but staff was ridiculously unbehaved and also tables weren't very clean

Went here for lunch today and it was excellent. I got the mushroom buns and the veggie dumplings (steamed) and both were great. My hubby got the cold northern style noodles and the pork and crab mini soup dumplings. We both really liked the noodles and he said the soup dumplings were almost as good as ones he had in China. read more

After a week of dining at American restaurants on Cape Cod, we were just hankering for some Asian food. This place hit the spot, their "soup dumplings" being similar to "Shanghai dumplings" that I had in Shanghai. The place was clean and quick, and most tables full at 8:30pm on a Sunday night. My only issue was that the mabo tofu sauce was a bit starchy. Otherwise just great. read more

Went here for the first time with friends to escape a dreary rainy day. Best food to eat when it's pouring and chilly outside? SOUP. Even better, soup DUMPLINGS. We ordered soup dumplings, three cup chicken, szechuan beef stew, watercress, and pork fried rice. The soup dumplings were great! The trick is to tear the dumpling skin and drink the juice, or else you'll get a whole lot of hot exploding soup on your face, and that's never painless... The three cups chicken was okay except a tad bit salty, and I was surprised to see so many small bones in it. If you get this, eat it carefully - it's a choking hazard. A popular dish amongst all of us was the beef stew, since the meat was super-tender, and (for veggie lovers like me), the cabbage was a great complement. The service was quick - our friends next to us were grumbling about why we got our food before they did, even though they ordered first...I guess that means a 4-star review from them? Ha! read more

I struggled with how many stars to give this place. The amount of food was a lot. I had the wide noodles with beef and tried a mushroom bun. the beef was good--albeit a little on the salty side.
