Steamed chicken and cabbage dumplings: delicious. Fresh dough and filling. Seshuan fish: fantastic. Delicate, flaky white fish served in yummy, spicy broth with veggies. Short ribs: tender, flavorful and yummy. Friendly service, just wish we could have ordered half of the dumplings steamed and half fried. No wait on Thursday night around 830, but clearly this place gets packed. Can't wait to go back. read more

The dumplings are very good but the service leaves much to be desired. It was almost like it was a burden for the servers to bring us water or any of our food. The meal was very good but we wished the service would have been a bit better read more

I don't think there's a better Chinese place in Cambridge, and I, for one, love having this place as a neighborhood Chinese place. I've been here many times, and have never really been disappointed. I've read a number of reviews on here saying this place is loud, but really Chinese food is a pretty social activity, and it wouldn't be loud if it wasn't full. It wouldn't be full if it wasn't good. I think especially in Asian countries, this restaurant is a bit representative - you're not going to get a traditional western dining experience. The staff won't be that attentive naturally - you have to speak up. Flag them down. Yell "fuwuyuan!!". As a testament to the cultural authenticity, I recently dined here with a vegetarian, and the waitress warned me about onions and other vegetables in the vegetarian dishes that buddhists couldn't eat. As for the food, it's made in a deeply greasy fashion (fried and southern). If that's not what you're looking for, maybe this isn't really the right restaurant, as that's sort of the style. A lot of the vegetable dishes are a little less oily, but for example, the cumin lamb is made in a battered-and-fried Taiwanese/southern Chinese way, as opposed to a Henan/Xi'an kind of way that is a lot of meat sliced thinly that you may think of. You're going to get more cuts of fat in your meat, and if you love that, you'll enjoy this place. As for the dumplings, they're pretty good. Contrary to what I just said above, I think their steamed dumplings are actually much better than their fried dumplings. The fried ones are alright, but the steamed ones are very very good. read more

Super fast service, a little greasy, typical Chinese food. Average soup dumplings. Xiao Long Bao. The broth was a little bland, but the dumplings did not leak and that's the most important part. The sauce was on point. I loved the Chinese watercress and garlic dish. They did a good job of keeping the veggies crispy. The Beef and onion dish was a little too oily for my liking but we finished, it Price was a little high in my opinion, but probably typical for Harvard Square area. read more

Hadn't tried food from Dumpling House before so decided to give them a try for delivery via Door Dash for dinner. While I ordered the sauteed rice cakes I received sauteed rice noodles instead. I knew Door Dash warns clients that replacements could happen if something was unavailable at the restaurant. However, I found their noodles to be too oily and tasteless. Wouldn't mind the replaced meal if the dish was good quality but was not impressed by their version of a lo mein type of dish. read more

I love the food and the decent price. I don't give five stars because of several issues: - They have no problem in making your party share a table with other people... This just makes the meal uncomfortable. - They totally rush you if you're taking long to eat (maybe because we're enjoying the company and the food?). - It doesn't matter if you book in advance, you will always wait at least 10-15min in the small area at the entrance. - No delivery service is available read more

I've tried: -Soup dumplings: Nothing like asia but probably one of the best/better ones I've had in the east coast. -Wontons in chili oil: Very filling and quite delicious -Shanghai noodles in meat sauce: Drowning in sauce and not that great. -Pepper style wok fried chicken: Not bad but seems to be more of a western interpretation of the dish rather than the actual one. -Cumin lamb: Delicious though note that they add alot of hot peppers so that might make it too spicy for some -Hot sauce fish: Expensive but very generous fish filet portions, cabbage, and quite a legitimate interpretation of the actual dish -String beans with shrimp: Tasty albeit oily -Spinach and garlic: Good version of a basic dish read more

It is very close to my work, and it was emergency on Jan. 20 in our office. So, I ended up in Dumpling House for quick lunch ordering chicken dumplings and A26 Northern Chinese style pork teriyaki just to try something what is not mentioned anywhere but on Dumpling House menu. I was given two pieces of dry cold meat (didn't taste like pork) with fat and tendons, without any trace of teriyaki, but in excessive amount of Cajun seasoning and dipped in dry dill seeds. I am sure "Northern" stays for Boston, and approach is that Americans will swallow everything. The best advice is to change recipe or remove this from menu. As about dumplings, dough is thick and too soft not from overcooking, but from too much water in the dough and the cheapest flour. I would rather have 8 pieces but better quality. So, it was fresh. Dipping souse was like mix of soy souse and vinegar with untidy chopped pieces, by the way, souse dish doesn't fit in plate souse compartment. Service is better than food, efficient is the best word to describe. read more

Dumpling House - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

My wife and I went here today for lunch. We ordered mini juicy dumplings, pork cabbage dumplings and the ground pork with noodles (Northern Style). We liked the dumplings and we will certainly come back to try some other dishes. Update 7/7 We ate here about a month ago and got the mapo tofu. It was the best mapo tofu we've had in a long time. Also a big fan of the beef soup, it was well made. As for the dumplings, I still prefer them somewhere else but they're not bad here. read more

I couldn't tell you why it doesn't get more consistently excellent reviews here. This is one of my favorite spots for Chinese, particularly Sichuan food, in Boston. You definitely need to know what to order first: we always gets the vegetarian mapo tofu, sliced Sichuan fish, and seafood hot pot. Dumplings not worth it, ironically, for pescatarians. The spice is amazing and like a smack in the face. The food is enormously portioned and just fantastic. We've always had prompt and kind service both eating in and out. Would highly recommend! read more

My friend and I came here for dinner and shared the most AMAZING soup dumplings as well as two other dishes. It was pretty busy for a weeknight, but people know it's good!! We'll definitely be coming back here. read more

This place is above your average Chinese takeout joint. Everything we got was very flavorful, overall a step above most places I've been to. Not greasy and definitely not skimpy on the servings. -SESAME CHICKEN - perfectly breaded, not too doughy, little to no fat on the meat (I hate when it's all breading and chewy fatty chicken!) -SHANDONG DUMPLINGS - Simply delicious. Large, awesome flavor, perfectly fried. I didn't particularly like the dipping sauce though, for me it had too much vinegar. -SCALLION PANCAKES - We picked up our to-go order a little late (shame on us) so they weren't all that crispy, but I can't wait to try them on our next sit-in visit. They were packed with scallions and very reasonably priced. I will surely be returning to this place soon. read more

I probably come here 1-2 times a month because I can't get enough of their soup dumplings! They're a must!

Thrilled to have a decent Chinese food contender in the Central Square area! All the basics are there: decent space, friendly staff, good menu, and an okay price point - but I think they still have some kinks to work out. Food flavoring needs a little tweaking. Ma Po Tofu way too salty but otherwise had good flavoring. Sauteed rice cake and sauteed vegetables were cooked well (i.e., not over or under cooked), but way too oily. Tried three types of dumplings. Spicy chili oil wontons (szechwan wontons) were just covered in red oil, no real szechwan pepper taste or any contrasting/underlying flavor (e.g., green onion, garlic, soy, pickled vegetables). Soup dumplings were decent, but NOT on par with Joe's Shanghai in NYC - ours came out a little cool for my taste vs. the necessary piping hot. The Shangdong Style Pan Fried Dumplings were decent too. No liquor license yet, but sounds like that's in the works. Staff is friendly but still rather inexperienced (i.e., they don't really have a feel for what the customer needs when, and everyone seems to be working everywhere in the restaurant). That being said, if you're willing to flag down people and ask for what you want, it's so much better than the grumpy service you get at places like Mary Chung's. I'm rooting for these guys, and hope that it'll become more of a Central Square foodie stop vs. another mediocre Chinese fast-food spot. read more

I've been here a few times with larger groups (10-12 people each time), and each time it's been absolutely fantastic. Dumpling House is one of my favorite places in the Central neighborhood. I really liked their scallion pancakes, and all the varieties of dumplings I've had here have been super. Prices felt reasonable for what you're getting, and I've never left hungry. Definitely check it out! read more

Really awful place. I get a stomachache whenever I come here. I confirmed that their "dumplings" are just hmart frozen reheats. Furthermore, when I was paying by cash, their wait staff misunderstood the remaining cash was tip and proceeded to trash talk me in Chinese (I already had cash in my wallet for tip and was expecting to use those instead). This restaurant is a true misrepresentation of Chinese cuisine and culture. read more

These guys took my money and made me wait two hours and didn't deliver my food! Horrible customer service. Avoid at all costs! Horrible customer service! Stay away!!!!! Update: This was definitely the restaurant that I called and didn't get food from! the owner called me and could not find any information about my order Even though I gave him all of my information and bank card number, and the bank still charged me so I had to cancel my card. They did not deliver any food and were extremely uncooperative in trying to give me my money back so much so that I had to cancel my bank card! Crappy service! Even the owner was useless! read more

I give it a one star only because they have ok food, otherwise I would like to rate it a zero. Here are the reasons: - Street parking is hard to find especially for Friday and weekend evenings. - Service is a nightmare. we had a party of five and was brought by a server to a table that had been reserved for another party (we, as customers, apparently had no idea of what's going on). So the service was really bad to begin with as we somehow took the blame from the manager. - Service is a nightmare. They charge 18% for gratitude no matter how many people your party has. - Service is a nightmare. We ordered another dish for take-out when asking for check. It took longer for them to prepare the food then swiping the credit card, apparently. After paying, we were asked to leave the table and wait outside for that take-out dish (it was 13 degree that night) so that they can sit another party. It was a horrible expience overall. My advise is if you have to go there for whatever reason, pick a time that the restaurant is not packed. read more

This place is so crazy busy. It took us 40 minutes for a table on Friday night. We should have called and make reservations. lol. We ordered dumplings, seafood in wok, eggplant basil, Szechuan fish, cold noodles. Those are spicy, but incredibly delicious!!! The front desk were so nice. They offered nice candy too!!! xD We will surely come back!!!! read more

Delicious dumplings! We will definitely go back but the surrounding is tight, the place was packed even on a Tuesday. Can't imagine the wait on a weekend. I'd suggest making a reservation in advance. read more

Not to be confused with either Gourmet Dumpling House or Dumpling House in Chinatown. Different names and I'd assume different ownership. The day I went it actually seemed to be managed by some second gens, which I found interesting. Really solid food, from what I ordered - Scallion pancake with beef: probably the best I've had in the Boston area so far. Super rich, almost glutinous scallion pancake, just the right amount of sauce, spiced beef and scallions. If I lived closer to central square, I could see myself coming here alone on a pity night and eating an entire one while streaming something imbecilic online - Mustard greens and pork noodle soup: You probably can't get this wrong, but it was so very good. Even the soup was very tasty (possibly flavor enhancers, in retrospect) - watercress with garlic: so good read more

Soup Dumplings were superb. Only tried the pork soup dumplings. Will have to try the seafood one next time. The waitstaff reminded me of Joe shanghai staff in NY but friendlier. Twice cooked pork was delicious. The prices were great. A little expensive if you go as a party of two, but very reasonable if you go as a group. The street parking is a minus. Otherwise I would have given a four and half. read more

Came here for Chinese New Years with friends from school. Food was great but service was a bit lacking; however I'm willing to attribute that to the holiday rush. Although we were a table for 7, they sat us in about 40 mins which wasn't unreasonable on a Friday night. Once seated, we did have to ask for menus and they forgot to bring out one of our dishes, but the kitchen really seemed swamped from the sheer volume of people. The waiting staff was incredibly nice and the food was pretty great too! I recommend the soup dumplings, and the beef with scallions and onions! We would love to go back on a less busy day. read more

Get the Beef with Scallion Roll in Pancakes - like a Peking duck roll but made with scallion pancakes! Yum yum. We also had mapo tofu and sliced schezuan fish, which were tasty but could have been spicier. Crab and pork soup dumplings were great. Only weak dish was Kung Pao chicken, which I thought was bland but table mates found refreshing. read more

Honestly, for a restaurant called Dumpling House, I expected the dumplings to be better than they were. No flavor really at all. Just bland dough and bland filling. The dipping soy sauce had more flavor. The hot and sour soup, however, was pretty good. read more

This review is actually 2.5 stars. Came here today for their lunch special, where you can get 3 dishes from a select list for about 25$. We got their clam with basil, eggplant with basil, and some green veggies with garlic. There was a vegetarian soup that came with the lunch special that was pretty good, but everything pretty much went downhill from there. The green veggie dish was very bland. The eggplant dish was alright, but very mediocre. And the clam dish. DO NOT GET THIS unless you want to feel like you have a beach in your mouth. Every clam I ate had sand in it. I had to wash it down with a gulp of water. No thank you. Our waiter also never even came by our table to check on us to see how everything was, even though he wasn't busy and was just chilling and sitting down by himself. If you want to eat this type of cuisine I highly recommend you save your time and money by going to JoJo Taipei, which is a Taiwanese cuisine, but they have many of the same dishes. Their lunch special is also cheaper. read more

So good! Had the soup dumplings to start. Yummy. A little doughy imho but very good. We ordered a chicken dish and a pork dish. We asked for spicey because we like to live dangerously. The pork lived up to the hype. I wish I could tell you what I ordered but I can't but it was spicy and soupy and sooo good. The chicken left something to be desired. The service was good, no complaints. Free tea (yum) The community loves it (read: crowded to a point of confidence) Creepy lobster tank in the back. Frog is on the menu (take that however you wish) read more

I've been here several times and find it to be a solid neighborhood restaurant. There are better options in the Boston area, but in my opinion it's one of the best, safest less-Americanized Chinese options in its immediate vicinity (walking distance). The dishes are, in general, on the heavier/greasier side, but are pretty decent. The portions seem to depend on the type of dish. I never regret getting food here -- not great, but can't go wrong with it either. read more

The service here is horrible! The waitress bumps into you, the cups are dirty, and by the time I got to my food, the dumplings tasted like oil . The long wait for horrible service and food! read more

Really, really solid spot. I come often enough for lunch that some staff give me a nod when I walk in (HEYOOO!). I usually come with my vegger friend and here's what we get: mushroom with greens (baby bok choy) lunch special, steamed spinach dumplings (somehow better than fried?), and if we're going all-out then the ma-po tofu, too. All of it is good, but the mushrooms are standout superb. Also, love the tea. And generally good service. Go and check 'em out! read more

Dumpling House - Spicy &salty pepper pork chop, very good - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

Some of the best soup dumplings around. In between Central and Harvard squares in Cambridge on Mass Ave, Dumpling House fills up quickly. You may expect a wait, but it is sure worth it. Several large family-style tables are available. The restaurant has a few separate areas and has the vibe of a Chinatown restaurant with the hustle and bustle of fast service and a loud atmosphere. Great for parties of two or ten. As one would expect (and hope), the dumplings are the star and the mini soup dumplings with pork are delightful with the chewy and slightly crusty dough of the dumpling oozing with a savory broth with a generous stuffing of ground pork. Pour the vinegar sauce slowly over the dumpling, bite a small hole, slurp, enjoy. The menu is quite large. Depending on the size of the party, would recommend one fish, one meat, and one vegetable dish. Option for spicy Szechuan style, Taiwanese, or even "Americanized" Chinese dishes. I'm sure the "Americanized" dishes are perfectly fine but do try to branch out. Take the Szechuan dried spicy chicken - its like a simple chicken nugget but with a flash of heat, served with a heaping portion of sliced dried peppers. The sliced fish Szechuan style is lovely. The small portion (large also available) is enough for two to share with other dishes. What is more satisfying than a bowl of spicy red pepper broth with tender white fish, bok choy, and cabbage on a cool fall evening? You may even catch a Szechuan peppercorn or two. read more

Going to rave about the spicy fried pork intestine in wok---don't let the name scare you, it's fantastic. Contrary to my expectations, the pork intestine has a layer of coating, which formed a nice contrast to the slightly fatty inside. The dish definitely has a nice kick of spice and goes really well with rice. I love the addition of lotus roots and wood mushroom ears---the lotus root cuts back on the spice a little and the mushrooms add a nice crispy texture. I ordered on Ubereats, and the portion was huge, enough to last more than one meal. read more

Food's pretty good. That's the positive side of things. The negatives are many. It was super busy when we walked in on a Friday night, signs that the food is good right? Well when we were "seated" for our large group there weren't enough chairs for all us to sit down. Strike One. It took about 18-20 minutes for the waiter to come by. Another two times asking for water, the third time we had to go up and get the water ourself. Strike Two. We had a group of about 8 or so. Some couples some singles. So naturally we split the check, we're 20-somthings and cannot just throw down one card for the meal. No one carries cash these days... The waiter sees our 4 cards and cash and says, and I'm paraphrasing, "It's not that much money, either pay with one card or pay in cash," and he left without taking our money. That left us to scramble and figure out how to pay for this meal. Strike Three. Never going back. Customer service is critical and the staff their don't have it. read more

I'm truly shocked that I'm giving a bad review. Walking in the place was packed on a Tuesday at 7pm, good sign. We were sat promptly at a table for two and given tea immediately. We ordered the steamed dumplings with pork , fried dumplings pork and leek, the spicy green beans with pork and style of the Szechuan style lamb kebabs. Maybe I'm used to a more Americanized dumpling wrapper, but I found the dumplings to be gelatinous and tasking very whole wheat.. The esteemed ones were filled with so much fluid that you had to be very careful when taking a bite. The fried ones looked amazing but were short in flavor. The green beans were delicious, but the beans themselves didnnot seem very fresh and the kebabs we sent back. They were dry and were over seasoned with fennel. On the bright side they did not charge us for the kebabs. It took at least 15 minutes for our credit card to be run through and we finally just one up to the front to retrieve it ourselves. So overall the food was terrible the service was okay, a little slow.... Not going back. read more
