Words you don't associate with delicious dumpling eatery: spacious, clean, and well lit. Dumpling House is these things. The crowd was huge by 6pm when we went on a weekday night, but the place is big enough to hold everybody. The place is loud and filled with families with hungry small children and groups with hungry small adults (me) alike. So don't bring a date here, but maybe your roommate or your sweatpants. Get the shangdong style dumplings (山东煎饺) - crispy, HOT, juicy, and a really generous portion. We also got the pork and leek dumplings (steamed instead of pan-fried) which were also delicious. Our orders came out within 5 minutes. All the other items are the menu are just okay (we also got their rice cakes and fried rice), so I would stick to the items this restaurant is named after. No website but the menu is here: http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/dumpling-house-cambridge-4?select=2-GMEdS8MqeOMyWubQn1Pw read more

First time to get takeout here on Sunday. The new chicken with mixed vegetables was delicious and not just the usual suspects, e.g., onion, celery, carrots, but baby bok choy , mushrooms, broccoli, and an usual crunchy sliced veg that was unknown to me but a great addition. The fried rice with chicken, pork, and shrimp was equally delicious. I will be going back for sure! read more

OH where to start? First off, we were not allowed to change seats to the windowed room because they claimed there was a party of 30 coming (that party never came). Drinks are important, right? We had to pull a bottle of Gatorade out of my bag so we'd have something to drink, as we were never offered beverages... not even water. Here's the big deal: IF YOU HAVE ALLERGIES... BE VERY CLEAR WITH YOUR SERVER! My boyfriend has a shellfish allergy. He communicated this to our server. Server did not understand what that meant. He brought another server over, and she also did not understand what "shellfish allergy" meant (lack of allergy training and language barrier combined). BUT she assured us that the dish was fish free. The dish comes out (10 minutes after my food), and it is riddled with SHRIMP. So we ask to speak to a manager, and the third server tells us the manager is busy. We insist, and finally a manager comes over. To their credit, the manager handled the situation very well, and remedied the situation. But be aware if you have allergies... you have to enact all your detective skills to figure out if your dish will kill you. We will certainly never go back. read more

If you want some amazing soup dumplings in Cambridge, you don't even have to cross the river They also have quite a variety of interesting and flavorful dishes. Soup dumplings aside, particular favorites include Beef with Long Horn Peppers (by themselves or in a noodle soup; Dried Bean Curd with Long Horn Peppers is also good) and the Special Lamb with Cumin (a very strongly flavored dish with sesame, Sichuan peppercorns, dry red peppers, and a huge amount of whole cumin). It's lively, the food is interesting and delicious, and soup dumplings! read more

I was impressed with Dumpling House. We went on a Friday night when it was packed, and yet we still only had to wait for (barely) 15 minutes! We didn't feel rushed while we were eating either. We got somewhat obscure menu items, but 4 out of the 5 things we had were delicious. Soup dumplings were great, as were some rice cake dish and Northern noodle salad. Stir-fried vegetables were solid. The one dish we did not like was the three cups chicken; the sauce was cloyingly sweet and the chicken had unpredictable bits of bone hanging around in it. I can't comment on how authentic the food was, but it was pretty tasty. This is definitely not health food though...everything was pretty oily/salty/MSG-y. I appreciate that we were seated relatively quickly, and not rushed through our meal. Even amongst all the madness, the servers took time to wipe down our table when they noticed some tea had dripped, for example. read more

Honestly, the xiao long bao here are some of the worst I've had. The flavors are not delicate. The dumpling is too thick. The meat was rubbery. Everything was wrong. I also haven't liked the other dishes I've had here. I have no idea how this place has 4 stars. read more

What's good here: Eggplant basil dish Spicy sliced fish soup is awesome There's usually a long wait, and it's a popular Chinese restaurant in Cambridge. Good to have groups get together here, or have a quick authentic dinner. The soup dumplings are actually so-so, if you've had them in Chinatown. But in a pinch, they will do well here. read more

Dumpling House is the best restaurant in Cambridge, actually in the Boston area, actually in the world. As a college student in search of good, affordable food Dumpling House is perfect. The service is wonderful and fast, and the food is just absolutely delicious. Highly recommend the spinach and egg dumplings and the crispy fried tofu. BEST PLACE EVER. Whenever something good happens, my partner and I always go to Dumpling House to celebrate. It is by far my favorite place to eat. Thank you Dumpling House for being so amazing!! read more

Great Chinese food spot in cambridge! The wait can be long but usually moves quickly. Try the salt and pepper pork and general tsos chicken. I'd recommend ordering family style so you can try everything. read more

The food tastes decently good but I always leave feeling very uncomfortable. It's also a bit too salty across the board. - eggplant with chicken (usually pork but you can sub) is pretty good...nice little spice kick and a good sauce. - the dumplings are hit and miss. The spinach/veggie ones when steamed are nice but I find the others to be a bit too rich. All in all it's a fine place, but not my first choice even in the area. read more

I give this place 3 stars for a Chinese restaurant in the Boston area. (If we were comparing this place to the amazing Chinese restaurants in the suburbs of Toronto, Dumpling House would get owned.) Anyway, the food is decent. We ordered soup dumplings, eggplant with pork, lamb wok stir fry, sauteed Chinese watercress with garlic and scallion pancakes. The soup dumplings seemed to be a favorite there. Service was incredibly quick. But I can't give it 4 stars for the following reasons. 1) The food is more greasy that I would like. 2) For the price, the plates are pretty small for a Chinese restaurant. I would highly recommend MuLan, another Chinese restaurant in the Cambridge area. For about the same price per dish, they offer much larger plates and much less greasy food. read more

Great service and fun, casual atmosphere. LOVED the crystal shrimp dumplings and sauteed flat noodles. Everything is served piping hot at your table. The menu is extensive and I wish I could have tried everything! Great quality AND value. read more

Place eh. Honestly thought it was going to be better considering it was the dumpling house but friend and I found it sub par. I might go back to try something else. read more

Serious issues with the food, but I am not going to give it 1 star, because I have had their food before Pandemic and it was awesome. I ordered from Dumpling House on April 11th 2020, here's my order: A12. Spicy Salt and Pepper Tofu: This was one of my favorite things from Dumpling House in Cambridge, it usually is slightly pan-fried with a little breading tofu with a generous flavoring of salt/pepper. However, the tofu tasted a bit off and did not have the same texture as I am accustomed. It's still okay, but far from normal quality. A21. Crispy Fried Pork Intestines I do not know what other reviewers are talking about on Yelp at praising the fried Pork Intestines. The dish I ordered and received on April 11th was woefully under-cooked. I do not know what happened in your kitchen, but please be very careful, tripe and intestine cannot be served under-cooked. Trying to force faster cook with frying technique may make outer layer appear crispy, but there are eaters of Chinese descent, who knows what fried pork intestine are and if it is cooked thoroughly. There were semi-raw pieces mixed in to your dish. E19. Sauteed String Beans with Spicy minced Pork The string beans were overly seasoned, which is a shame, because I thought you had done a good job at wok cooking overall if not for the seasoning. A22. Fried Chicken Wings This is my first time trying your fried chicken wings, I usually do not eat this, but I had a family member who prefers American styled foods. As a chicken wing, it was delicious and well seasoned. For non-Chinese eaters, I highly recommend chicken wings. G12. Braised Eggplant with Basil This is a traditional Chinese dish, but again, the seasoning was off. Also, the eggplant was under-cooked, so it left several pieces hard and several pieces were soft upon eating E12. Twice Cooked Pork The Twice cooked pork was a big let down, there was no wok flavor on what amount to the Chinese version of "bacon and pepper". There was also a disproportion of peppers to onions. read more

I was not too impressed with this place. Considering they're called Dumpling House their dumpling selection is pretty small. We got the soup dumplings and the leek, vegetable, and dried shrimp buns. The soup dumplings were a little bland, with not much soup in them, and the vegetable buns were really dry and not very good. We also got the oyster pancake, which I liked but the rest of the table wasn't wild about. I didn't get a single bite of oyster, but I did get a runny egg yolk (which I love), and I liked the combination of sticky-gooey rice pancake, greens, and egg. Boyfriend got the sesame chicken which was surprisingly good (way better than our local delivery). My mom got some kinda clam dish, I didn't really notice it because I don't like clams. I got the Szechuan fish, expecting a lot of spice and fish. The fish was good and cooked well, but there wasn't a lot of it. However, there was a lot of cabbage. A LOT of cabbage. There was also a ton of inedible chili casings on top. And I don't mean they were inedible because they were spicy, I mean they're literally inedible. I had to spend a lot of time picking them out. The sad thing is, despite all the chilis, it still wasn't very spicy. The service was great, very attentive and fast. It was a totally packed Saturday night, and we still got seated and served very quickly. Overall, I'd rather go to the Dumpling Cafe in Chinatown. read more

I did some research for soup dumplings and this is one of the top rated places and I see why. My wife and I have been eager to try soup dumplings for sometime now and while on vacation in Boston ma we said to ourselves why not give it a try. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was great we ordered soup dumplings, scallion pancake, and chicken wings everything came out less than 15 min and we had a great time. Definitely will come again if we are in town. read more

Dumpling House - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

Meh. I've experienced better. I would avoid any noodle/rice dish that has an "or vegetables" option if you want to have something leafy/green/flavorful in it. In their vision, vegetables means load up on carrots and celery. No tofu despite specifically asking for vegetarian noodles with tofu. Barely anything to accompany noodles but brown sauce, a pile of carrots and celery, and a bit of snow peas and broccoli. Nothing else. Not even onion. Also ordered "tomato" pancakes. I'm willing to bet that anything on the menu that says tomato means potato. Maybe I'm wrong, but it's a gamble, and that was just an odd dish to pair with Asian style noodles. Maybe they do dumplings well. read more

I'll preface this review by saying that although I enjoy Dumpling House in Chinatown, I actually prefer other Chinatown restaurants over it - both because of taste and usually how long it takes to get in. I was fairly excited about a Dumpling House opening up in between Harvard and Central Square. I probably went a little too early because it seems like they're still working out a bunch of kinks. The three stars are because although I really wanted to like the place, I found it to be just middling. First impressions of the service wasn't great. I went on a Tuesday night and upon arriving, it took 5 minutes of standing in front of the desk before the person manning the front counter even looked up from what she was doing to acknowledge me. It took a few more minutes to get me seated and another 10 minutes to get my son a high chair. None of the wait staff even seemed to notice that I was sitting there with my son. Eventually I did manage to get my order in. The food ended up being just ok. I got pig's feet noodle soup, xiao long bao, potstickers, and scrambled egg with tomatoes and shrimp. The potstickers definitely stood out. The dough was really good and crisped just the right amount. The pig's feet, however, was too tough. It's supposed to be tender and soft and the skin and meat should fall off the bone easily. I found myself gnawing at it to get something out of it. I was really not impressed with the scrambled egg with tomatoes and shrimp. Not the least is because when they first gave me the dish, it didn't have any shrimp in it. They took it back and 5 minutes later came back with small shrimp that was cold - just added to the same dish. I had half expected them to actually stir in some shrimp, but it was basically just sprinkled on top of the dish they previously served. That being said, I realize that most of this is probably just due to ramping up the restaurant. It did, after all, just open a little over a week ago. I'll probably be back to try some more items. read more

Darling new place, lovely staff (super friendly!) and tasty food. I must disclaim that I've only had one dish here - spicy fish. But it was good. Very good. I'm a huge fan of Szechuan spicy fish, which is a difficult dish to make very well. All too many Chinese restaurants around town just don't make it well. So I always get it and judge a place at least partially by how well they make their spicy fish. For a long while, only Thailand Cafe could make spicy fish well in the Harvard/Central area. After Thailand Cafe closed, the spicy fish in town swam away to murkier further inaccessible waters. A friend and I came to eat here today, and the spicy fish (C1) is available in 2 sizes, small and large. We ordered the small size, coming as coy and noncommittal fish... skirting the bait but not yet biting. It was so good that we ordered another one.... and then a third one, and a fourth one. The waiter chuckled that we should have just ordered the large (or two), and took pity on our lack of foresight and gave us a discount. =) I have no reservations to recommend that you come fish for tasty dishes at Dumpling House. And don't be like me.... just order the big sized one! read more

Good dumplings. Ordered the vegetarian ones which were great and pork soup dumplings which were good but wish they'd been more bite sized

We had the pea pod shoots, pan fried dumplings, crystal shrimp dumplings, and the soup dumplings. All excellent with varied tastes and freshness. The service was fast and although we waited to be seated for about a half hour, it was worth the wait. Definitely a treat. read more

I don't think I'd rank Dumpling House as a top Chinese restaurant in the area because their food is a bit too greasy and they try to take on too many types of Chinese cuisine so that nothing really stands out. That being said, it's a large restaurant with a big menu and some of their dishes do have good flavor. The soup dumplings aren't the greatest but aren't bad either. Since it's pretty centrally located, it's a convenient and decent spot to satisfy that Chinese food craving. read more

Enjoyed my first time here! Despite being with a very, VERY large group, the service was still great. The food came out fast, which is really a big feat because we were tackling the dishes with record speed. The dishes were so good we ordered seconds of almost everything. Some of them did leave a bit to be desired, but for the most part, I had absolutely no complaints. We got the green tea mochi ice cream for dessert--which was good, but it was very obviously the frozen, supermarket ones. We also had hot sake which was especially nice, considering the cold, wet weather out today. I would love to come back here, maybe with a smaller group next time. read more

After hearing hype about the Dumpling House, I had high expectations for the food and I'm happy to report back that this place met and exceeded my expectations. I left the ordering to my Chinese foodie expert friend and prepared myself for the feast. I recommend coming with a large group of people so you can order family style and try a variety of dishes. We ordered the eggplant, hot and sour soup, soup dumplings, spicy fish soup, scallion pancakes, and a beef dish. Every single dish was excellent, but the two dishes that really stood out to me were the eggplant and the scallion pancakes. The scallion pancakes were crispy without being too oily and with a party of five, there was plenty for everyone. The eggplant was perfectly cooked and also came with chicken, smothered in a tangy sauce. As for the service, the waitresses promptly refilled our tea when it was empty and checked back on us frequently to see if we needed more food. I thought the service was efficient and readily available. If you're on the hunt for some bomb Chinese food, I would highly highly recommend Dumpling House! read more

A perfect sister to Gourmet Dumpling House, but without the lines!! The food is always wonderful (and fast!). We got the (1) mini juicy pork dumplings - delicious, a bit tricky to eat, but the waitress will show you how if you tell her it's your first time eating a soup dumpling, (2) Sandong Style Pan Fried Dumplings - just ok, they taste like any old dumpling, nothing special, (3) Eggplant in basil sauce - fantastic, not too oily. I will absolutely come back, but they don't have a liquor license yet....However, the food is delicious!!! read more

This place is amazingly delicious!!! I went here the day my wisdom teeth were pulled looking to get soup or some sort of soft noodles. Ended up getting the noodles with pork dumplings and it was so good. I of course was limited in what i could eat and had to use a fork and knife to eat dumplings (they only have chopsticks on the table). The waitress was very nice about it as we explained I had surgery and couldn't eat normal. My boyfriend for dumplings and rice cakes with chicken and loved it!!! The only weird thing is that they sell drinks by the cannot bottle. No fountain machine. Needless to say, we returned the best week when I could actually eat something and it was equally as delicious! read more

I had been here before and enjoyed the food, and to the sister restaurant in Boston, but my most recent take-out experience was altogether gross. We orders hot and soup soup, vegetarian dumplings, pan fried noodles, fish in black bean sauce, and tofu with mustard greens and edamame. The meal could be summed up two words: flavorless slop. The soup was cold by the time we got home. The dumplings were the best part. The fish was slimy in texture and has a distinct fishy taste. I could not have more than two bites. The edamame dish was: edamame, teensy tiny shreds of mustard green, and shaved tofu covered with a congealing beige sauce. This di read more

First time to D.H. Food ordered-various dumplings and chicken wings all very good. What's got me writing a review is the wait staff service. We sat for over 15 minutes waiting for the waiter to come to our table ( restaurant was not busy). Not courteous, friendly or welcoming. Each dish that was delivered to our table was dropped off by different waitresses, not a smile to be had by any. When guests come to your establishment, part of the dining experience includes the service. It's not appealing to be treated so poorly by so many disgruntled employees. read more

Do not order the three cups chicken. I spent most of my time pulling bones out of my mouth. The food tasted okay, but I had such an unpleasant experience eating it. To be fair, I've heard that the dumplings are good. If I ever go back, I'll order dumplings, and consider revising my review. read more

5 stars for the XLB, a tad bit sweet, and they're bigger than usual. So good. 3 stars for the cucumber salad, was not fresh, had a weird taste. 4 stars for the eggplant rice cake dishes - they were as expected and pretty good. I'm going to start visiting this place often for the XLB's going forward. read more

I heard a lot of good reviews about this place which is why I swung by here twice during my stay in Cambridge. The place was jam packed all the time, but the servers were really nice and were able to seat me almost immediately after I had walked in. I tried the Shanghai soup dumplings, sizzling beef on a hot plate, and the Szechuan Sliced Fish. The texture of the dumplings was really silky, the meat was really fresh, and the servings were incredibly generous compared to what I normally get at Cha Chan Tengs. I was slightly disappointed that there was not enough flavor in the broth, but otherwise it was still good. The beef plate and the fish would've been perfect except they were a bit too salty and oily respectively. The plus is that it is within walking distance of Harvard Square and relatively close to MIT. A great choice to go if you are in the Boston area! read more

Don't order crawfish, they are not fresh. The best food I think is their spicy and sour potato, beef with green pepper. Average per person is $15 ish. But really depends on how much you are ordering if you are not ordering that much read more

Let's start with the good: the food is generally great, the take-out is easy, and the menu has a ton of options. I've been coming to Dumpling House for five years and will probably keep ordering from them, but the prices have gone WAY UP, more than I would have expected. Now, the bad: The Mango Chicken dish is now close to $20 and I remember when it was closer to $15. That adds up over time and the size of the dish itself is certainly not reflective of the $20 value. Sometimes it's overcooked as well, although not always. This place needs to lower its prices or offer larger portions. $20 for one dish is far too expensive for Central Square. read more

Get here early before the crowd arrives! XLBs are good (I had the pork XLBs and the pork + crab XLBs), and I do seem to order them every time (in mass quantities, mind you), but I find them to be a little too salty. At the end of the day, though, it's so close to Harvard Square, and beggars can't be choosers. I am also a HUGE fan of the Sichuan boiled fish and order this nearly every time I come; it always tastes really authentic and is a total hit at the table. I absolutely loved the sauteed rice cakes with pork (pork is the best, but seafood is pretty good, too) and the sauteed water spinach with garlic, too. Both are so delicious but perhaps not for those who are afraid of oil. Also, you probably don't need as much food as you think you do. I almost always over-order, so don't be afraid to start light and add on more as you go! read more

The food was pretty good but the service was TERRIBLE. They were pretty rude and tried to avoid eye contact so that they wouldn't have to help us. One employee even put her finger in my mother's face and said "wait a minute!" when my mom asked for extra napkins. They slammed the food down on the table and couldn't tell us what was in each dish (asked due to seafood and nut allergies). In conclusion, I would suggest ordering to go if you want good food without the attitude. read more
