Excellent service and delicious food! Ordered a selection of appetizers for lunch with friends. We were very impressed and would definitely eat here again. read more

This place is busy, likely owing to proximity to MIT. The vegetable fried rice was low grade (and equally low quality) with the most prevalent vegetable being lettuce believe it or not. As the picture will clearly indicate they believe that for $12 it's best to wok some white rice with carrot strands and lettuce with some random green plant matter that was so puny it was impossible to clearly identify. I cannot imagine anything is good as the dishes have none of the visual elements that suggest ingredients are fresh. Should rename Dumpster House. read more

Was looking for a late night snack after a day of walking in the rainy cold weather and this hit the spot! The endless options were a bit overwhelming but Im pretty sure you can't go wrong here, I want to try one of each! read more

Clearly delicious and highly recommended. The shandong dumplings are awesome. The small pork dumplings (I like pork & leek) are amazing. The soup dumplings are interesting and tasty too. Entree-wise I like the three cup chicken. They do throw bone-in pieces of chicken into a chopper for it so watch out for the bone pieces and shards. Eat carefully and enjoy!!! Service is efficient and attentive - even at the busy lunch hour. read more

The soup dumplings were perfect, with a burst of soup when you bite into them. The fried tofu was so golden and fluffy that the lady sitting next to us exclaimed, "What is THAT?" It was light crispy perfection. Tomato and egg soup was a pleasant surprise and reminded me of my mom's breakfasts from a long time ago. read more

Soup dumplings are a delight not to be missed. The food here is a big step up from many other Chinese restaurants. The place is always packed, many Asian students attest to the authentic of menu items. The atmosphere is bustling and lively, very casual, seating a bit tight with so many tables and diners. Not for a quiet, relaxed dinner, but fun and delicious. read more

I used to go here ALL the time, since they've opened a few years ago. We go for the wings and dumplings. This week, my team at work wanted to order some food to celebrate an event. I called in the day before to place a fairly large order, around $322. First thing to note, this place does not give you a single penny discount...if you want catering, you have to order off their regular menu. Ok, fine. I even went there the weekend before to try out some entrees I've never had....the special Fried Rice was not good. I still ordered that for our party. Anyways, they took my order and credit card over the phone for a pick up the next day. I get a call back asking how many settings...I thought that was nice. I don't need it but if you offer it, then sure. Later on, I get yet another call from a guy who is insisting that they charge me 15% tip. This caught me off guard as the lady who took my order (and whom I spoke to twice) did not mention anything about this. I am picking up the order so why should I tip you a mandatory 15%?!? You should be giving ME 15% off for choosing your restaurant for our party (even after trying your fried rice and being disappointed). Eventually the guy just brushes me off by saying its okay, thats fine and hung up on me. What kind of attitude is that! We used to love dining at your place and getting take out for work but forget it now. Not going back again. They've become so cocky and pushy...nothing like the humble behavior when they first opened up. Your business is probably booming but one by one, your attitude will chase away loyal customers. We took our business to our other fave Chinese spot, Zoe's Gourmet Chinese Cuisine (296-298 Beacon St., Somerville MA)...they were super friendly, willing to talk and consult on our orders, made suggestions, even offered a 5% discount on cash payment....upfront about delivery fee $2 and I gladly gave a nice tip to the driver. We've collected tons of Dumpling House menus over the years...we'll be burning that ASAP. read more

I don't typically write reviews on yelp, but feel if I do so for Dumpling house, more people will come and like it, which will help them thrive so that I can enjoy the food there forever :-) I am Chinese and have lived in Boston for over a decade. I have to say, Dumpling House is probably the best non-Cantonese Chinese restaurant in town. Their Sichuanese dishes are so authentic and delicious - really way better than Grand Sichuan, Sichuan garden, and the old thailand cafe on Mass Ave. We tried lots of dishes on Friday Appetizer 1. 夫妻肺片 Spicy beef tendon with chili sauce: Delicious. Very authentic sauce and perfect texture of beef. Dry style. 2. 麻辣耳丝 Chilled spicy pig ear: Delicious as well. We did half/half for this and 夫妻肺片Spicy beef tendon with chili sauce. Absolutely delicious 3, 蒜泥白切肉 Steamed bacon with fresh garlic: arguably the BEST dish we order. So tasty. It's chilled, nicely cooked and sliced. A MUST try. 4. 臭豆腐 Stinky tofu: very good. My husband commended that it's better than the ones he had in China 5. 小笼包 Mini soup dumplings with pork: One of the best in Boston. Better than Shanghai gate and Changsho, which I think are pretty good already 6. 韭菜盒子 Vegetable leek pie: Average. Can be saltier 7. 山东煎饺 Shangdong style pan fried dumplings: Average, nothing particular 8. 金黄土豆饼 Potato Pancake (typo in their menu as "tomato pancake" :-) Not bad 9. 北方炸酱面 Minced pork with noodles Northern Chinese style: Average. I expected something with drier sauce. The taste was not bad, but it's a bit too "wet" for 炸酱面 Meat/Seafood/veggie 1. 香锅牛蛙 Spicy fried frog in wok: I am so grateful that I can find this in the US! One of my most favorite dishes in China. Good quantity also - lots of frog in it. Very delicious! 2. 九层塔海瓜子 Baby clams with basil: very good. Also good quantity! 3. 羊肉串 Northern Chinese style lamb teriyaki: Average. I think the ones in Little Lamb is better 4. 清炒空心菜 Sauteed Chinese watercress with garlic: Excellent! Really delicious. Much better than the ones from Mulan Really top Chinatown quality food in non-Chinatown area! I have recommended this place to multiple of my Chinese friends, who also tried this restaurant this weekend. Unanimously, extremely positive comments. We have decided that this is going to be our get together place going forward. My home is right at the corner of where Mulan is. I have to say, although Mulan is not bad, the dishes are not as delicately and authentically made as in Dumpling house. Unfortunately, they don't deliver at the moment. We took their take out menu home, and expect to order from them a lot. So happy we have Dumpling House in Cambridge now. There are so many other dishes on the menu we want to try that we decided to go there again this coming weekend! read more

Went here @ 3pm on a Saturday. Including my girlfriend and I, the place was about 4% full. Staff acted as if I just shit in their faces by coming in to eat -- angrily tossing menus on the table w/zero eye contact. Sorry for showing up. Spring rolls were frozen on inside...one bite and sent back. Veggie dumplings were ok, but not like Chinatown GDH. Veggie noodle dish lacked veggies but not oil or bean sprouts. Thanks for the tea, but eat a dick. read more

The food here is incredible. Some of the best in the city. However, we came here last Sunday. We were told there was a 15-20 minute wait. We waited over an hour and 20 minutes. Just standing outside the entire time. It's one thing to be a little off with the wait time. But over an hour is ridiculous. They clearly knew it was going to be a long wait and just didn't want to turn away customers. They told everyone 20 minutes and about 15 other parties were not happy as well. read more

Solid and consistent Asian fare with good prices. Overall: 4.5/5 Value: 5/5 Service: 4/5 Decor: 4/5 With a party of 3, we typically get the sautéed vegetables with mushroom, pork and leak dumplings or pork dumplings (xiao long bao), and mapo tofu. It's not the best I've ever had but it's solid compared to other Asian options in the vicinity and probably Boston broadly so I always come back. Dumplings are super juicy and tender! The vegetables are good and a solid portion, as is the mapo tofu. I like to order take out from here through Postmates as well even though they charge exorbitant delivery fees. Glad they added the yelp queue feature because the worst part is that they're so busy the wait can be super long and the area doesn't necessarily have a bunch of stuff to do at night. The service is fast and the line is long usually, so go at off times or get take out! Setting is cleaner and nicer than some other Chinese restaurants, so it suitable for big parties and occasions as well. This is my top Chinese restaurant in town I'd say! read more

Have been here quite a few times. Food is great, and I have been to enough Chinese restaurants to not have high expectations on the service. But what they did this evening was flat out rude. Three of us were waiting for our table. Friday dinner time, busy, understood. I mean, the wait wasn't even long. This woman called our number (37), while a group of five (white, professionals while we were three Asian students. Yes I can get this pretty ugly if I want to) showed up at the same time but they were number 27. She asked how many people were in their party and gave away our table, right in front of us, no apologies whatsoever. Didn't even hesitate. I had to show her our number to remind her that we were still there waiting for a table. Three staff at the front desk, and no body uttered a word. Of course with so many great alternatives in this area we chose to go somewhere else. Btw, we had hot pot at Flame, just a few steps down Mass Ave., and it was awesome. read more

Visited twice with different group of friends as company. Central square dumpling house is FAKE ! Nothing is really good, even weird. anything there you can find a better one in other Chinese restaurants. The only thing nice there is the menu, but they use pictures from Internet, none of the food looks like the pictures in their menu. we ordered 3-cups chicken, the chicken was stinky! the other food are GREASY, SMALL portion, the buns are bad, they don't seem to know how to make yeasted dough. I even think they use the frozen soup dumplings none of the food is close to authentic, except Shandong food, because the owner is from there. no sichuan pepper corn in sichuan food, 3cups of chicken, they are 'Proudly' to use ketchup' , FuQi FeiPian is nothing like what in the pic in the menu (A1) in the pic, the lamb skewers are 4, but actually only 2 each order. I give 2 stars here, because the waiter and waitresses are nice read more

Honestly surprised to see the bad reviews. My boyfriend and I adore Dumpling House. When we were in Atlanta it was impossible to find good soup dumplings - there really wasn't any place that did it right. I can truly say Dumpling House does this right and this is coming from someone who has been to the original Din Tai Fung. Food: The soup dumplings here are excellent, and can ordered just pork or pork and crab. While it may not be as "delicate" as places you can find in Taiwan but the taste and most importantly - the soup - is definitely all there. The pan fried pork and cabbage buns and the Shan Dong Style pan fried dumplings are also delicious. I've also tried their 3 Cups Chicken which was a little too sweet for me but my boyfriend loved it. The twice cooked pork was also good but a little too oily and not enough pork. The fish dishes are really amazing though and I recently enjoyed the Fish filet with pickled mustard greens. Space: I actually used to come here growing up when it used to be a Buddhist temple with traditional Chinese vegetarian cafe. The interior hasn't really been changed and it still is a casual spot. This place can get really busy for dinner, I would definitely expect a wait during weekends. Last time we went there were maybe 5 couples in front of us but luckily it went quickly. Some of the two-tops are really close to each other, not something we care about but I know other people do Service: Service is fast and to the point. Recently a table next to us tried to explain being vegan to a confused waitress. Asian people in general don't really understand Vegan or vegetarian (my family for example thinks fish is vegan) so if don't eat meat or have dietary restrictions I would look at the menu an pick a few things out ahead of time. Parking: Mass Ave as expected has difficult parking. Mostly it's metered street parking. We've been lucky to find a spot relatively quickly each time. read more

Just amazing. Some dishes were a bit spicy but they adjust dishes easily. Best Chinese food in Boston/Cambridge, without question.

Consistently delicious food. Good service. Conscientious and caring staff. Our party has people with specific dietary needs. The staff was very accommodating. If we (unknowingly) tried to order something that did not fit our needs, the waiters told us. They also checked on us several times to make sure that everything was going okay. We had eggplant, fish, tofu, and bok choy. I am Chinese, and have eaten these dishes at many authentic restaurants. In the US, these dishes are usually prepared the same way (gets boring). Not here. The dishes were uniquely prepared. Absolutely delicious! read more

I normally don't stray from my Chinatown-only dumpling policy, but I was taken to Dumpling House by a friend and I was surprised at the quality of the food. We had the soup dumplings, another steamed pork dumpling, the scallion pancake and a pan-fried noodle dish. They were all really good, but noticeably salty. I had an MSG headache all the next day. The service, however, left something to be desired. We waited for our number to be called and when it was, another group jumped in ahead of us and took our table. When we tried to call them out on it, we were ignored and chastised for standing in the way. We got the next table, but it meant an additional 10 minute wait. At our table, the waitstaff in general seemed overwhelmed and annoyed. We had to ask a couple of times for water, and they barely spoke to us at all, even when we ordered. Looking forward to my next trip to Chinatown. read more

Came her for lunch often, close to work, I have tried so many dishes here and this is the list of dishes I think are delish. The mini soup dumplings with pork and crabmeat. The pork and pepper onion is so tasty. String bean w dry shrimp. Yum! Braised tofu w scallions and veggies. Shredded potatoes w hot and sour sauce. Sizzling beef short ribs w black pepper sauce. Sliced fish szechun style. Always have to get when I'm here. String bean w dry shrimp. Chinese watercress w garlic. Baby clams w special chilli sauces. read more

You'd think with the name Dumpling House they'd do great Dumplings. Unfortunately not. They are doughy and unappetizing. The sauces were good but didn't make up for the disappointing dumplings. The soup ones had any hardly soup. I've had better heated up in my microwave at home from Trader Joe's. Why bother, just go somewhere else. read more

Yes. This is a place for soup dumplings. Some people write XLB (xiao long bao) without expanding the acronym or explaining it because there is a cult around it and people are really into their xlb. Are they the best in the world? Not certain because this has been the only place where I've had soup dumplings that the have actually lived up to their name. I, for one, enjoy them. It took me several tries to figure out the best way to eat them until the bf and I finally watched a video. The food here in general is good. Business is good so the food is always hot and fresh. That being said-you might end up waiting for a table on a Tuesday or Wednesday night. But, service is fast and people move in and out. Out of the Chinese places in the area, this one is my favorite. The space is nice, service is fast, and the food is dependably good. I'm a sucker for dumplings and while I agree that these tend to have thicker skins than dumplings elsewhere, I'm willing to say it's their style and I quite like them. Steamed garlic veggies are very tasty too! read more

This place was good. I always wanted to try these specific pork buns and I finally did and they were delightful. To make it short, the food is lovely, the atmosphere is relaxing and it's very low-key. If you're craving some chinese food, don't delay in coming here!. read more

Dumpling House - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

I went to dumpling house with a party of 4. I was surprised how quickly and friendly the staff are. We waited for about 5 mins before being seated. The waiter, I believe his name was Peter, offered us drinks right away. Peter didn't rush us to order and came several times making sure we are ok. The food: Garlic watercress - 4/5 a bit oily, but tasty. We introduced watercress to our Caucasian friends and they liked it as well. Chives and pork fried dumpling - this is my favorite, 5/5 The popular xiao long bao - 4/5 tasty, but not my favorite Beef chow fun (干炒牛河) - 3/5 although tasty, but somewhat salty. Overall, I really enjoy dining at this place. Friendly staff and good food. read more

I'm a Cantabrigian and have been to Dumpling House hundreds of times. I'm never let down. However, tonight was extra special. After going with my "business partner" for my weekly dose of soup dumps, my experience was so strong that I was compelled to come straight home and write this review. First of all, the staff as a whole is always on point. I've seen critical reviews of the service here and to that I say, stop picking your feet in Poughkeepsie. Tonight, as always, we were seated quickly by the Madam. The hot tea beat us to our seats, and we immediately asked John Lennon to serve two tall boys of Sapporo. Per usual, my favorite waitress Joey swung by to give us a wink and drop off a free cup of roasted peanuts. I never look at the menu (I mastered it long ago). Tonight we sat down and ordered pork soup dump, spicy lamb wok, chilled pig ears, and a bowl of rice. The timing was perfection, best I've ever seen. The pig ears arrived immediately. If you've never had pig ears before, they are like a slimy cold bacon in a gooey orange spicy sauce. Get ready to make your lips dirty. They are a refreshing way to start a feast on a breezy spring night. The second we finished the pig ears, the dumps plopped down on the table. If you only order one item at Dumpling House, order the pork soup dumps. I don't want to hear any corncobs telling me there are better soup dumps. (edit: ok Dumpling Cafe might be as good but the other entrees don't come close). The spice lamb wok came out last. WOW. All of the wok dishes are fantastic, usually I go with chicken, but tonight was a special night. The lamb is a little pricier, but it is worth the 15 dollars, easily. The meat is tender and succulent, and packs a satisfying kick that is full of flavor. The ratio of vegetables to meat is just right. We washed down this fully-satisfying meal with one more pot of tea (insider tip, leave the top open for an immediate refill). My business partner and I looked at each other, and we didn't need words to communicate that together we had just gone through a spiritual experience. We walked out, said what up to happy cat, grabbed some mints, and immediately started fantasizing about our next trip to the Dumpling House. In honor of Dave Letterman, here is our top ten list of menu items: 10. Beef with longhorn peppers (VERY SPICY) 9. Scallion Pancakes 8.Hot and Sour Soup 7. Pig Ears 6. Clams with Special Chili Sauce 5. Braised Eggplant with spicy fish sauce (found in pork section) 4. Ma pa tofu 3. Spicy Fried Wok (chicken, pork, beef, or lamb) 2. Rice Cakes with Pork 1. Went for the first time tonight after having a friend recommend the Chinatown original. Our table ordered both the pork and pork and crabmeat soup dumplings (our whole reason for going) the vegetarian dumplings, and the short ribs. Everything was delicious and served beautifully. The soup dumplings were served with a tangy vinegar sauce that paired better than the typical sweet ginger sauce served with dumplings. While the vegetarian dumplings are billed as having spinach, its more of a rice noodle tofu green mix, but still cooked perfectly. The dough was just the right thickness. Despite it being the first week, the service was great even with a crowd and the food was served very quickly. There was a really pleasant buzz to the place too. We'll definitely go back, as everything ordered at other tables looked so good too, especially the beef scallion pancake roll ups. read more

Dumpling House - Soup dumplings, serving of 7. - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

Wonderful food! Always super busy with people, so you know it's good. Keep coming back- my go to for some delicious soup dumplings!

First off, service is the worst I've ever come across. They are even more rude than restaurants in Chinatown. The workers don't smile nor give off any friendly vibes. In my eyes they are over staffed yet the workers just stand around chatting. When the waiter came over he leaned over our table and directly said "ok what do you want". Lol Second, the food are all very bland. Stay away from the dumpling noodle soup and wonton noodle soup. You won't taste a thing, the soup was just water with no flavor. Their hot and sour soup was good until I one time I could tell they fricken added water in it to dilute it and the taste was all sorts of wrong. The only acceptable dish here is their soup dumplings. But considering the service I'd never come back. read more

This place is not bad. It offers decent dumplings at moderate prices, and the service is pretty much nonexistent. I've been here a couple of time and have consistently ordered one thing with some variations, so I'll just base my review on that. I usually order the pork and leek dumplings, but the last time I visited, I got the chicken and cabbage dumplings, the pork and cabbage dumplings, and the scallion pancakes. To start, I really do like their pork and leek dumplings: they are flavorful, juicy, and very delicious. Their scallion pancakes and crispy and flavorful, but a little bit too greasy. The other two dumplings, the chicken and pork and cabbage, were not that great; they were a little bland and I didn't enjoy them as much as I did the pork and leek dumplings. The place has moderate prices, especially if you come during lunch, but the dumplings are a bit pricey (t's about $7 for 7 dumplings, so not bad for the area, but it's still a bit pricey). Overall, I would recommend for their pork and leek dumplings along with their scallion pancakes. read more

So so sad we are moving from Cambridge soon since this new Dumpling House location just opened up and it is amazing!! First, they take reservations! And we actually walked right in for our dinner reservation, no wait time at all! Instant star in my book. The service was pretty good too with filling up our water, tea, etc. although we weren't exactly sure what took the rice in our order so long to get to our table? All of the tasty dumplings cooked to order made it to our table just fine, so that was a little strange. And dumplings galore this place is!!! We loved every dumpling we had including the pork and leek ones, but especially the SOUP DUMPLINGS! mmmmm I need more of those right now! Good thing this place is at least down the street from me for a few more weeks before we move!! Yes, they are that addicting. The pork steamed boas/buns were actually not the best in the world though. They just didn't pack that wow factor like they usually do. But the shanghai greens we learned are like bok choy but don't have the white bottoms and are actually a more authentic option and those were tasty and made us feel at least half healthy after eating all of those dumplings! And then we got this amazing fish dish---called sliced fish! Sounds lame, but wow is it so tasty! And putting some of this over a little bowl of rice is perfection! So much flavor, a little spice, great broth, and definitely one of those things someone else sees you order in a restaurant and it makes you jealous. That's actually how we ended up ordering it--we saw it on someone else's table and we asked them what it was since we had to have it, and we are so glad we did! read more

I don't know if it was because it was a poor choice for delivery or not, but my experience was mediocre. Xia long bao were okay, not the worst I've ever had but not close to the best. Salt and pepper calamari had a good flavor but were soggy for the most part with a couple exceptionally chewy pieces---again this may be a result of delivery and probably is better if you eat that in house. I wouldn't rule it entirely as an option because of this but I will try other places in the meantime... Delivery was quick and pleasant.... read more

Excellent, authentic Chinese food arrives in Cambridge. I'm most delighted by the delicious xiao long bao! Substantially more spacious, clean and better decorated than Gourmet Dumpling House in Chiantown. Great atmosphere in general. It's new but already gets crowded fast! I imagine the food is much better in person. I ordered the soup dumplings and the crispy spicy sichuan chicken through postmates. The chicken had really good flavor but the overcooked chicken pieces made me think they had given me fried erasers on accident, I had to throw it out. But perhaps that's what's insinuated when they say its 'dried' fried chicken? had a chew like fried jerky. The soup noodles were pretty good, better than what I would generally expect in boston, about what I would expect for the price. The food was promising enough to make me curious about their other dishes, but I wish they had actual descriptions of their dishes somewhere to make it easier to choose what to order. read more

Ordered hot and sour soup and crystal shrimp dumplings. Shrimp dumplings just so/so--very few pieces of actual shrimp, packed in a forcemeat that tastes fishy, not shrimpy. Hot and sour soup was very thick and cornstarchy, like a slightly spicy eggdrop soup, with tofu pieces and thin bamboo shoot strips. Comically bad was the service. I was wrestling with a shopping cart at the entrance, and the host came over to ask "Just one?" without making any moves to hold the door open or assist me in any way. (he did when I asked). Waitstaff brought water twice, spilled it on the table without wiping it up, left me with no utensils to eat my dumplings (until I asked). On my way out with the same unwieldy shopping cart, same host once more did not move to open the door for me (until I asked). So they're all fine when you ask for what you need (which is good), but have no intuitive idea of basic customer service. read more

Don't get me wrong - the soup dumplings here are pretty good (**** stars) for Boston, which is reassuring since they've staken out the territory by their name on this signature item. That said, execution on a number of "standard" dishes falls disappointingly short: sizzling short ribs with black pepper sauce is neither sizzling nor dressed in any significant black pepper sauce, sauteed peapod stems are surprisingly also flavored with soy sauce as opposed to the classic garlic alone, steamed broccoli was priced at $10 - just to name a few. Embarrassingly, Cambridge lacks excellent Chinese food (see Yen Ching), which is why Dumpling House is a great addition. One exception is Qing Dao Garden in North Cambridge which prepares excellent homemade dumplings (jiaozi). DH needs to improve on some of the major dishes that are prepared much better at half of a dozen Chinese restaurants largely found in Chinatown but that I take for granted. While the soup dumplings alone here may be able to get folks in the door, keeping them coming back will be tough if they don't aspire to better fare. That being said, I recommend them for their soup dumplings, although I would prefer ginger that is julienned in much longer strands (see Din Tai Fung). read more

Dumpling House is definitely the best place in Cambridge to get authentic Chinese food. As a vegetarian, I had a ton of options on their menu. The scallion pancakes were amazing as well as the vegetarian dumplings. Definitely a good idea to go family style at this restaurant so that you can try a variety of the dishes. The menu offers a ton of options that range from dumplings, noodles, and meat & vegetable dishes. The staff was extremely helpful and brought out our food very quickly. The main chef even came out and greet us at the end of our meal to make sure it was enjoyable. She was extremely friendly and made sure the food met our expectations. Service overall was great. My friends and I were even offered tea and water while we waited for our table. I would definitely recommend this restaurant! I had a hard time to categorize this place. It is definitely not authentic Chinese food, maybe fusion at most..... We ordered beijing pork dumpling since this place is called dumpling house. It tastes just so-so. Plus, the dumplings were a bit undercooked. We did not try other dishes on the menu. So we cannot really comment on anything else other than dumplings. So, if you come for authentic Chinese dumplings, you will be very disappointed! There are many better places for dumplings. We will not come back. read more
