You know it's a good sign when a restaurant is still busy after 1:30 on a saturday afternoon. Came here today and had the xl bao, stinky tofu , Sichuan fish, pork and bean curd strips, rice cake and pork, crispy duck. everything was phenomenal, except for the duck (meat was a bit dry). Service was very good, prices were reasonable. Gonna come here more often. read more

-I was looking for a quick nite nearby my hotel late night and stumbled upon this delight. I ordered take out and the service was super quick with reasonable prices ($9 for a small Kung pao chicken). It wasn't as salty as I had expected (how did I know? because I didn't wake up with a MSG triggered headache or in the middle of the night for water). The only issue was the chicken itself - a major portion of this dish- was so chewy and plastic tasting sigh I wonder what kind of meat it actually was.... read more

Dumpling house is the best! I love their lunch specials. Also their soup dumplings remind me of my mom's dumplings. Because when you hand make dumplings, the dough is thicker and more uneven, versus perfectly made factory dough. I love that Dumpling House's dumplings are handmade! read more

Food: 4/5 Service: 3.5/5 Atmosphere: 3.5/5 Value: 4/5 ----- Dumpling House, after it opened its new location in Cambridge, was a staple of mine in college! Especially after Yenching closed, it was the best way to get authentic Chinese food. Cilantro is right across the street, but in my opinion, Dumpling House has them beat in both quality and price. No one can deny how good their soup dumplings are (I've had better, but beggars can't be choosers when it comes to soup dumpling availabilities), but I like a lot of their other dishes too. I recommend the Twice Cooked Pork, the Eggplant, the Egg and Tomato, and the String Beans. Especially for the lunch deal, I think it's a great bargain. Some of their other dishes are a bit hit or miss, but I have to say, I haven't tried too many of them because the staples are that good. Service is just average, but they're usually pretty good about getting your checks to you and everything. Occasionally, there will be a dirty plate, which is not ideal. But there are always huge parties of Chinese families here for graduation parties, post-wedding parties, etc., so I always take that as a good sign! And my tummy is always very happy afterwards. read more

This restaurant is super legit - they serve some of the most legit tasting Chinese food ever and every dish I've ever ordered here is super delicious and flavorful. The portions are also sized and priced well and despite how great the food is there's never been a wait. The ambiance is fine and the service is pretty no nonsense! Some of my favorite dishes: - XLB - Any of the dumplings - Fish fillet with scallions and garlic - the fish is SUPER tender and the sauce tastes great. I have probably ordered this 5x over Doordash - Eggplant with basil - this dish is sooooo flavorful - Any of the soups read more

This a quite the find. We were walking from MIT to Harvard along Mass Ave. They have a great variety on their lunch menu. My daughter ordered the sesame chicken lunch special and I a stir-fried udon with beef (not lunch special). Both were very good. Great flavor, not too greasy nor over salted. Prices are very reasonable both lunch and regular. Portions are large. Great service. Kind staff and a continuous flow of water! It was a very hot day. read more

Disclaimer: I'm very biased because I live fairly close to this establishment and visit all the time. But I mean, if it isn't good I wouldn't visit it all the time right? Glad I talked that out. Now on to my review: Absolute necessities to order/try here: 1.) Mini soup dumplings with pork and crab - (Ask for spicy chili sauce on the side and dunk your dumpling in it before devouring.) 2.) Udon noodles with mushrooms and chicken - (We always substitute chicken for pork) 3.) Sautéed Pea pod Shoots - (Basically a whole mound of lightly sautéed pea pod shoots that are so tasty/healthy and fill you up) 4.) Braised Eggplant with Basil (Classic dish done right. Just so fresh and an amazing portion) 6.) Spicy Szechuan Chicken (Another classic done right) I could go on and on but those are some of my favorites. God I love this place. The atmosphere is just so lively and homey compared to Cilantro (located down the street). You are seated right away and greeted with a fresh pot of tea. I wish I could afford to eat here everyday. read more

Dumpling House - Pickled cucumbers with garlic - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

I've been coming to Dumpling House for years because I love the vibe - open late night and a mix of students and locals. They have great, predictable service. However, as much as I'm sorry to admit, this is not the place to go for soup dumplings. The wrapper is nice but they don't have enough soup. And the soup they do have is pretty bland. The meat as well doesn't have a lot of umami taste. I like other things on their menu though. Their homemade wontons in chili oil and cucumber salad are both excellent. read more

Took my friend from NY here before heading to a party. I was impressed, you really have to love soup but if you do you'll be impressed as well. I had the chicken noodle, the portion was HUGE BRO. I ate it for 3 days. I had the soup dumplings which were perfectly cooked, and dissolved in my mouth upon entering, and let me tell you THERE IS PLENTY OF SOUP IN THERE. The umami flavoring was aplenty, and the meat was perfectly cooked inside. Also the tea service is great. this is a place where you cannot be upset with the service unless you're a bully. Ordered from DoorDash because I missed some authentic Chinese food. And I must say it is decently authentic in terms of the steamed dumplings and fried stinky tofu. I noticed some reviews complaining about the thick dumpling wrappers, but those are the ones I prefer since that's the result of hand made wrappers. My family and I used to make these all the time, so perhaps this has a nostalgia effect for me. I really like the vegetarian dumplings. And pork & chive is a classic. The stinky tofu pleasantly surprised me because the sauces it came with were delicious. The tofu pieces are smaller than I'm used to but it meant more surface area for flavor. I was not a fan of the pig ears because the sauce was too salty. The texture is spot on, but something about the flavor is too strong. I think it needs less salt and more chili oil or something. The beef in scallion pancake is a favorite of mine wherever I go - highly recommend! My biggest complaint is that the price for Chinese food here is higher than I'm used to. read more

Delicious!! A no nonsense establishment with great flavors. I am a xiao long bao lover and my significant other is a "bao bao" aka fluffy dumpling addict. I had seen this restaurant when going down the list of hot food places in the Harvard area. It was a Friday evening, the place was packed and the line was significant. I was wondering what the all the buzz was about so I decided to give this place a try. My friend and I weren't too hungry at the time so we ended up just order the soup dumplings and the pork & leek steamed dumplings. The dumpling filling in the regular dumplings weren't as well seasoned, though it was packed with meat (which was a plus). I was a bit disappointed that the outside wasn't as chewy as I had imagined. Overall the regular dumplings were just average compared to ones I've had elsewhere in NYC and the DC areas. On the other hand, the soup dumplings were more flavorful and fun to eat. The outside was nice and thin just to the point that they wouldn't pop when you grabbed them with utensils and the filling was nicely portioned. Not to mention, they are called "mini soup dumplings" but they are quite the opposite in size! read more

Came here with a larger group for my birthday and got seated at one of their large round tables. It was great to be able to sample a bunch of dishes family-style. Highlights were the soup dumplings (xiao long bao) and Szechuan style sliced fish (soooo good!). Excellent service for a Chinese restaurant - the waiter brought out a "cake" made out of red bean baos at the end and even played the happy birthday song over the entire restaurant's stereo. You can get a small discount if you pay in cash. I recommend making a reservation ahead of time since they were pretty full. read more

Dumpling House - The "birthday" bao cake, they brought it out with a candle and played "happy birthday" music - Noodles Near Me - Cambridge, Massachusetts

I was searching high and low for a place that served dim sum. I was specifically after the mini soup dumpling! I found Dumpling House on Yelp. I called beforehand on a Saturday and asked what the best times were to go to avoid waiting. They said before 6:30 or after 8pm. We arrived at 5:30 and were seated right away. The food came out fast. We were done and leaving at 6:30 and they were definitely starting to get busy as there were many parties of people waiting already. Food: The mini soup dumplings with pork were delicious!! Very flavorful and great texture. We also had the wontons in chili oil. That dish came with shredded cucumber and carrots and a lot of garlic and sesame seeds. It was very good. Our third dish was the general gau's chicken and we ordered a bowl of rice on the side. My husband said it was one of the best general gau's he has had. read more

This is probably the saddest review I've ever felt compelled to write. I loved you, Dumpling House. I really, really loved you!! Have tried a few times since the pandemic and it has been just OK at best but mostly meh at a price point that is too much to be meh. If you don't want to read a grown man cry- just know this place was incredible and I don't think its incredible anymore. Recently got brave and decided to sit down and eat in. Was super excited because I wanted to get the soup dumplings and cumin lamb. Been absolutely craving it! Pretty good dine in COVID procedure. They take your name and number for contact tracing purposes. They do a quick temperature check and the tables are spread out. They have hand sanitizer on every table and use throw away utensils. If you're vaccinated and feeling up to it, this place takes COVID safety seriously! Food was super disappointing. We ordered chili pig ears, soup dumplings with pork, and cumin lamb special. Chili pig ears were pretty tasty- although I prefer the tendon. This may not be everyone's cup of tea, but I felt pretty good about the pig ears. The soup dumplings came out and fast and hot- but wasn't very soup, the dough was a little chewy, and the dough was slightly undercooked. There was very little broth in the dumpling- so it was more like a giant steamed gyoza. Which I wouldn't be complaining about if the dough didn't have a funky texture. I was super hungry so I ate it all- but we sat a little puzzled. Wondering if maybe it was us. The cumin lamb came out- also very chewy and not crispy at all. I've ordered this many times and this isn't how it comes out. We took two bites and got it wrapped up to go with the hopes that our air fryer will somehow save it. All in all- not that fun. This was a $50 meal with tax and tip and it just wasn't any good. Wondering what the heck happened. This place was soooo good that I would take people here who came in from out of town! I really hope I forget about this and give it another try in the future. read more

Packed on a Saturday night but definitely a good initial sign at least that something good is going on here. But the real test is the food and I must say, Dumpling House passed with flying colors. Parking is street which suprisingly wasn't too bad if you drive a tad around. Food - Stinky Tofu (n/a) I'm actually not a very good judge for this dish since it is first time eating it. I was told the stinkier it is, the better. Well, it was fairly stinky but my other party members commented there are stinkier out there. Wasn't too huge a fan of this dish but I'm not going to hold it against Dumpling house. Northern Style Cold Noodle with Peanut and Seasame (5/5) $7.95 Apr 2017. My favorite app dish so far. Nice chewy wide rice noodles that was intensely flavored with rich sesame spicy oil. The cucumber and care slices were crispy and crunchy. The cilantro and peanuts really brought the entire breadth of flavors together. I couldn't stop munching on this dish the entire meal. Mini Soup Dumpling w/ Pork and Crabmeat (3.5/5) 7 pieces for $8.50 Apr 2017. Honestly, I didn't really taste much of the crabmeat in there so was a bit disappointed. Overall, it tasted fairly regular as soup dumplings go. Then again, I could be spoiled cause I've had it many times before. Overall, a staple dish to get if you're wanting the Taiwanese dish experience. I'd save the ~50 cents and just get the regular pork. Spicy Fried Beef in Wok (5/5!!!) $15.95 Apr 2017 Highly recommended!!!! This was just the right spicy level to get my heat level up. One of my other favorite dishes of the night. The intense flavors imbued by the dry cooking mixed with heavy spices create an explosion of flavors in every bite. The still crisp veggies and succulent beef strips was excellent and you definitely need to eat with rice so it can soak up some of that oily goodness. Overall, great place to dine for Taiwanese food outside of the CTown block. Come early to beat the dinner rush. read more

We ordered takeout before and it was fine. But we went in person this evening and had a really bad experience. We ordered crab rangoons as an appetizer and those were okay, but turned out to be the best part of the meal. Although there appeared to be no crab in them, just cream cheese. Then we ordered the soup dumplings with pork and crab - wrapper was way too thick and doughy, crab was a bright scary pink and just tasted fishy, pork appeared mushy and undercooked. Soup taste was just pure fishy flavor. Could not bare to eat more than one. Also got the shandong pan fried dumplings. These were terrible. World's thickest dough, appeared steamed, not fried or crispy all. The pork again was so pink it was scary. We tried to eat them, but ended up taking them home to try to cook them more and may try to eat them at home. Had a good flavor once you got past the gag reflex of thinking they were raw. Finally we tried the 3 cup chicken. So many bones! I gave up on the chicken and just spooned the sauce onto my white rice to try to eat that, and even then just the sauce was full of tiny bone pieces. Sauce had a good flavor though. And lastly for service- we were seated and ordered before all parties of 2 people around us, but they all got their dumplings and we did not. We had to bother our server twice about the status of our dumplings before they came out 50 minutes after we ordered them. He was apologetic which we appreciated. read more

When I hear the name Dumpling House, it conjures images of a magical place full of great smells, happy chopstick-wielding patrons, and steamed pockets of love. Unfortunately, this food-filled establishment is far from a storybook setting and tells a more rushed, stressful tale. Our party of 2 arrived on a Saturday evening to be welcomed by a line of people out the door. Uh-oh. Already brainstorming Plan Bs, we stood by the podium to inquire how long the wait would be. After being blatantly ignored for about 2 minutes by the guy intensely focusing on the cash register, the hostess swooped by and said we could be seated immediately. Score! We were seated and presented with a looong menu. Seeing as we're at the house of dumplings, the pork & crab soup dumplings were a must. We also chose to share the General Gau's chicken and got a side of rice to go along with it. The complimentary tea on the table was pretty watery.. but hot at least. The dumplings arrive quickly, and these guys are good! The flavors of the pork and crab blended well together, and the broth was hot and savory. Be careful with your bites though, or you're sure to end up with some squirts on your clothes. Beware of the obstacles along the way: the General Gau's chicken was treacherously terrible. The sauce was goopy, and we bit into a few pieces that were bright pink and very undercooked. The way the chicken was prepared made it apparent that the meat wasn't of good quality. And the service was so nonexistent that we couldn't even let them know about this, get more napkins (after the dumpling squirting incident), or ask for hot sauces to improve the chicken's taste. As with any fairytale, I should have seen this ending coming. Order the dumplings. Don't expect much in terms of service. Leave with a full, warm belly. Embrace the soup stains on your shirt. read more

The food here is always consistently good, every time I have been. (I've been around 6 to 8 times in total. Yelp says 6, but I think I may have been a check in or two)! The service is always fine, but the last time we went, we brought our family for a "day after thanksgiving" meal, and we'd made reservations for our party of 7. Upon arrival, we were told that we were only allowed to stay for 1 hour, since others had reservations. I was a bit puzzled by that, I have to admit. We called ahead, showed up with our whole party right on time, and then were asked to hurry up/order/eat in 1 hour? Since we are paying customers, I was not super thrilled with that. I've never had anyone give me a time limit on my dining before... which is why I took away one star. I'd like to know if this is a policy that they've been regularly trying to enforce on busy nights when they have a lot of reservations in order to get more turnover, because if so, I may not go back unless things are a bit slower, so that I can take my time and enjoy my food. read more

One day, the heavens smiled upon me and opened up this gem within walking distance of me. The crowd gets pretty crazy on the weekend dinner time and lunch - the wait can get up to an hour, even longer, as people huddle in the waiting area hall. Prices seem a bit high, but portions are deceptively large - the last time I came with a group of 8 we were stuffed at around 10$ a person. The soup dumplings are pretty unconventional - usually, you try to look for the thinnest peel while still preserving the soup inside. Dumpling House seems to have gone the exact opposite direction - their soup dumplings are massive, with a very thick peel. Very different, but still delicious in their own way. I'm also extremely fond of their Shandong fried dumplings, and they also whip up a pretty good eggplant. I was pretty disappointed in the noodles - they were pretty lacking in any kind of texture, and were a little soft. Don't expect excellent service, or even mediocre service, or even passable service, honestly. Service is extremely disorganized, so you need to make sure you are persistent if you're lacking something, be it a dish, a check, or an extra seat. Maybe I've eaten at enough Asian restaurants to have gotten used to this, but Dumpling House seems particularly egregious when it comes to absentee waitstaff. read more

We were visiting Boston and ended up at Dumpling House and it was one of my favorite meals of the trip! We called ahead for a reservation for 7 people and we were seated as soon as everyone arrived. What we ordered: Appetizers- - spicy pig ears: this may sound weird and gross but if you are adventurous you should give it a try! It is so delicious and has a very unique texture. Very chewy. It comes smothered in a spicy chili sauce - jellyfish: also a unique texture. Loved the sauce with the sesame oil and fresh garlic. Also has some sliced veggies. - stinky tofu: not actually stinky like what you can get on the streets in Taiwan but the sauce is fairly similar and they give a very generous portion. It comes with some cabbage on top. - hot and sour soup: we got an XL and it was enough for 6 adults with seconds for some. Dumplings: - fried pork and chive dumplings: we figured we had to give dumplings a try since it is their namesake. They were so juicy and fried to perfection. Make sure you soak them in the included sauce! Main dishes: - C1 (I forget the actual name) but it is a spicy szechuan fish dish. We got a large and it was amazing. Lots of tender fish paired with veggies in some spicy broth. - spicy shredded beef with peppers- this was super spicy! I just picked out the beef but everyone enjoyed it. - braised eggplant with basil: yuuuum. Eggplant was cooked perfectly and it was a little sweet and the perfect balance to all our spicy dishes. - mapo tofu: I didn't try this because I was too full but others said it was average. Overall the food was amazing!!! The best chinese meal I've had in awhile. Comes with tea and ice water but white rice is extra. Service was super fast. Our appetizers started coming out soon after we ordered and all the food came out in a timely manner and was spaced out nicely. Also, the owner came over to say hello after our meal and she was SO kind, welcoming and friendly! It was so lovely to meet her. I would highly recommend you try out Dumpling House and we will definitely be back on our next visit to Boston. read more

About 8-10minutes walk from the Central Square T station, the Dumpling House welcomes you in with a warm ambience and impresses you with its availability of tables to accommodate many groups. I visited on a very rainy Friday evening at 6pm, but the restaurant still managed to get packed when we left at 8pm. We ordered a variety of dishes to share family-style and were impressed by how tasty everything was. It can be overwhelming flipping through the gigantic menu, but this also means there are plenty of options for those with dietary restrictions. True to its namesake, the dumplings were plump and tasty. My friend remarked that the watercress tasted especially fresh and cooked well. The only issue we noticed with the soup dumplings were that the dough was a bit thick and would stick to the pan, resulting in the soup spilling out. Other than that, the Dumpling House is a nice location to enjoy good food and catch up with loved ones. I will definitely be back. read more
