To be honest, I love Dumpling House. I eat food from here probably an average of at least once per month (either Uber eats or dine in) and they never miss. Huge menu selection and every item I have ever gotten has been decent. I have tried: - A29 Shandong Style Pan Fried Dumplings: despite the name of the restaurant, I think the dumplings are one of my less favorite items to get here. Good enough to order if I am craving them, but the flavor of the meat/texture of the skin are nothing special. - A30 Mini Soup Steamed Dumplings with Pork: same opinion as the dumplings ^ - A33 Pan Fried Buns with Pork & Leeks: these are also not my favorite to get here--the outer bun is too thick so the ratio to the filling is off, and the flavor is just okay. - A16 Scallion Pancakes: fried items here are very crispy, which I personally love. - A17 Sliced Beef with Scallions Roll in Pancakes: same as above, and the flavor of the beef + sauce is so yummy. - G16 Sauteed Black Mushrooms over Greens: mushrooms over bok choy in a thickened brown sauce, a fine veggie dish. - G18 Ma Po Tofu: not actually spicy in my opinion despite it saying so on the menu but flavor is good! - E17 Sauteed String Beans with Minced Pork: love this dish! Quite oily but really tasty. - G12 Braised Eggplant with Basil: solid - G13 Shredded Potato with Vinegar: fine, maybe a bit lacking in flavor - B12 Sauteed Rice Noodles: Good rice noodle texture, generous portion! - D11 House Special Lamb with Cumin: super flavorful and delicious, also surprisingly very spicy. - B2 Northern Chinese Style Lamb Soup: One of my go to Uber eats orders when I am feeling sick haha. It is a clear and extremely flavorful meat broth, heavy on the white pepper and generous with the lamb slices. The price is probably a bit higher than it should be for the quality/quantity of the food, but I feel like that is a concession frequently necessary for popular restaurants in the Boston/Cambridge area. The dining area is large and reasonably clean (floors are greasy/slippery though). There are also a few bigger tables that can accommodate larger parties! read more

This place had a lot of good reviews so I was super excited to try it! Here are some of my impressions of the different dishes that I got: Scallion pancakes - they were super thick and doughy Soup dumpling with crabmeat - there was minimal soup and the dough wrapper was very thick. The flavour was excellent and they're a bit bigger than regular soup dumplings Minced beef soup - I liked the viscosity and the flavor House fried rice - good mixture of pork, shrimp, and vegetables! I would get the house fried rice and the soup dumplings with crabmeat again! read more

I came with my family, and we shared the following dishes: Sliced Beef with Scallions Roll in Pancakes, Chinese Hamburger w. Cilantro & Green Peppers, Potato Pancake, Mini Soup Steamed Dumplings with Pork, Slice Fish Szechuan Style (Large), Lamb with Mixed Vegetables in Clay Pot, and Sauteed Chicken Szechuan Style. I most enjoyed the soup dumplings, potato pancake, and scallion pancake. I am always a sucker for soup dumplings. The way they burst in your mouth is so addicting. I could have honestly eaten a whole order of them on my own. The potato pancake was sooo crispy and yummy. It had the right amount of flavor and had a sauce to pair with it, which was perfect. The potatoes were fried with perfection and the scallions present helped enhance the flavor. The sliced beef scallion pancake rolls were also pretty solid. While the outside was crispy, the inside was soft and chewy. The flavor of the beef was also not too overpowering, leaving you a sweet flavor in contrast to the salty pancake exterior. The Chinese Hamburger w. Cilantro & Green Peppers was by far the most disappointing out of the appetizers. The bun was rock solid and dry while lacking any kind of flavoring. The pork inside was too fatty and was not enough to make up for the disappointment of this dish. I have always enjoyed Slice Fish Szechuan Style so we opted for it in the large size. While there was a good amount of fish fillet, I was not too impressed with the flavoring of the broth. It felt a bit lackluster and was only enhanced by the large amount of chili peppers present in the dish. The lamb with mixed vegetables in clay pot also came out overly salty. The noodles, which I often love, were way too salty as it soaked up too much of the broth. Lastly, the Sauteed Chicken Szechuan Style did not taste like anything special. My sister meant to order the dry version, which made it unfortunate. This version did not have much meat and the vegetables felt overly raw and had not been cooked long enough. This dish also turned out salty so maybe the chef that day just felt like dousing the dishes with a copious amount of salt. We ordered rice to pair with the dishes, and it was the most disappointing rice I have had at an Asian restaurant. Overall, I would give this place a 3.5 (rounded up to 4) since I did enjoy most of their appetizers. read more

This place is fantastic. An affordable spacious authentic asian restaurant in Cambridge. Oh. My. The food came out perfectly. Burning hot, fast, and flavorful. Can't wait to go back and try 6 more dishes. The service was impeccable. And the tea was hot from beginning to end. Who could ask for more? read more

One of my favorite spots whenever I'm in town. I always come here for Chinese food and order the sautéed string beans every time. We also ordered the sliced fish Szechuan style, stir fried chicken with Szechuan sauce, and chicken dumplings. We didn't order it this time but their soup dumplings are also very good. read more

Easily one of the best experiences of my life so far. We started off with some nice tea. Then the food came out and I didn't know what hit me. Every bite was amazing I cant get over it. I routinely order the tofu/veggie dish at every Thai/Chinese restaurant I go to... but this is something else! The mushrooms/bok choy dish was insane as well. The hot chili sauce was so good I had to resist the urge of drinking it. Really good service too! Ugh I would go here every day if I could read more

We came on a Sunday night and this place was absolutely bustling! The soup dumplings with pork were probably the biggest highlight of our meal along with some massive crab rangoons! I was not a fan of the general gao's chicken because the sauce on the chicken had a snot like consistency (sorry no other way to describe it, just skip it though). We really came for the dumplings though, and they did not disappoint, which is why my rating remains high! read more

I ordered the mini soup steamed dumplings with pork and they were pretty tasty. The main issue was that because the dumplings were not in individual portions/the filling escaped nearly all of the dumplings, so it was more of an actual soup vs the hot soup dumplings themselves. :) I still enjoyed them, and the 4th star really goes to their service and attentiveness. If I am in the area and am need of a snack/light meal, Dumpling House is on my list! read more

Soup dumplings were a real letdown...especially compared to previous visits. The skin was literally hard and tough. Off day, maybe... But the real problem is the cleanliness of the restaurant. Sitting by the window, I almost put my phone & sunglasses down on the ledge below until I saw how dirty and grimy it was. And the bathroom was equally filthy. Real turn off. (To the owner who often responds to these reviews, I hope you'll see this and step it up) read more

Food tastes good but is drenched in MSG. I had terrible sleep and an MSG head ache after eating here. Very rude service - no one speaks a word of English but the manager. Bathrooms were absolutely filthy - urine all over the floors and toilet clogged. Will not be eating here again. read more

My experience on a Sunday afternoon, with a small party, was quite good. We were seated quickly, and the order came out fast. We had pork soup dumplings all around. You could tell they were hand made. The flavor was quite good, and the sauce they had to go with it offered a nice tang. I didn't even ask for hot oil, which I usually do. It was flavorful enough as is. read more

Perfect place for a home-cooked a Chinese-style meal! Of all the dishes I ordered, I'd say my favorite was the twice cooked pork (not pictured since everyone immediately ate it as it arrived, but again highly recommended!) Their fried rice wasn't bad either but I'd recommend asking for their chili oil to eat with the rice. Their dumplings were pretty good but the skin was slightly too thick so there's a little room for improvement. Ambience wise, the restaurant is quite big so they can definitely fit small hangouts to large family gatherings. The staff were welcoming and friendly too. Overall, great experience. read more

This restaurant sucks! I've been ordering the beef fried rice without eggs or vegetables from this place on DoorDash for a long time and they were able to accommodate me for a while because of my allergies. They have cancelled my order on two separate occasions without any reason except for, "We can't prepare it this way" or just cancelling. It makes no sense since they were able to make my food correctly many times before. They are incompetent, don't order from this place for delivery. read more

I searched and looked at reviews for Chinese food restaurants near me and I decided to try this one... Why did I do that? What I got was house fried rice, sesame chicken, and spring rolls. All I ate were the spring rolls. The house fried rice was tasteless and the shrimp had nice black Lines in them. Not deveined at all! The ham also was awful. The sesame chicken was sweeter than a piece of pie or a slice of cake. It was sugary and contained mostly batter with little actual chicken. The sauce was thick as hell like I could pick it up with my fork while the food was hot. Just nasty! One additional thing I have to throw in was that I was told if I pay in cash there is a 7% discount. Why when other places are encouraging the use of a card ( you know because there is a pandemic) would a place tell people to bring cash to save money on the meal? So is the health and safety not priority? First time there and it is my last time there. read more

We stopped in before a concert. It's bigger than it looks. The place busy with both take out orders and dine in people. Even though it looked packed we were seated right away. It looked like a hot spot with large and small groups. The menu is extensive with dumplings and variety of Chinese dishes. All the orders that were coming out looked really good. We stuck to appetizers and dumplings. The standouts were shrimp dumplings, scallion pancakes and wonton in chili sauce. The soup dumplings were really good too. Some of the other ones were bit greasy but still good. The owner came by to say hello to make sure we liked everything and was welcoming. I will be back to taste the rest of the menu. read more

Mini Soup Dumpling w. Pork & Crabmeat = 4 stars. The crab meat had an interesting pink color and seemed to be dyed. I would've rather no artificial color, but the taste of the dumplings was really great. Delicious and filling. The soup inside wasn't hot, just warm, but I was starving and only wanted to wolf the dumplings down quickly, so I'm not complaining at all. If I dined inside (instead of doing takeout), I would expect the soup to be hot, of course. Sauteed Bean Curd Sheet w. Bamboo Shoot and Black Mushroom = 3 stars. I have a lot of problems with that dish. I had ordered takeout and was disappointed that it didn't come with rice. I probably should've read instructions online more carefully, but most Chinese places I know serve dishes with rice, so I was expecting the same here. The bean curd sheet was a different type from what I had expected and loved -- no fault of the restaurant, but now that I know the kind of bean curd sheet they use, I'd rather order a different dish next time. Bamboo shoot was good, but the black mushrooms... For a dish that screams black mushrooms, it served only 3 mushrooms! How disappointing. There were lots of carrots and some snow peas, but I really wanted (and was expecting) more mushrooms... read more

Given the name and the location, Dumpling House has surprisingly authentic Chinese food. It is by far the best option for Chinese in the vicinity, i.e. between Harvard and Central Squares. I'm a big fan of these emerging Chinese restaurants that aren't your stereotypical Chinese-American take outs serving General Tso's. Dumpling House has a large blue sign outside that you'd expect from a Japanese restaurant, but it definitely catches the eye. There's plenty of seating inside and it's usually pretty crowded, which is usually a good sign. Since they're called Dumpling House I was excited to try their dumplings, but was excited to find the other options. We came around lunch time, and their lunch menu is a pretty good discount, but we wanted to try some of their larger dishes. Starting off with the soup dumplings (they take about 10 minutes to prepare), the soup dumplings arrived in the conventional steamers. The soup dumplings had a nice thick outer wrapping, but we could tell that the inside was bursting with flavor (some of the dumplings literally had juice burst out). Inside, the filling was juicy and you could taste the sensational broth. Additionally, we ordered standard Sichuan dishes like Numbing Hot Fish Fillet, Sautéed String Beans, and Dry Spiced Chicken. All the dishes brought the numbing heat that I was looking for. Will drop by next time I'm in the Boston area and craving that spice. read more

I had high expectations since this restaurant was centrally located and was packed when we went. There had to have been over 60 patrons and we had to wait for seating for four on a weeknight. From the looks of things, I expected really good food. The wait was a little under half an hour for a table for four. For such a packed restaurant, I felt that they were sufficiently staffed and food came fairly quickly. I had no issue with service. Sadly, the food was only okay. The sliced beef tendon in chili oil was not cut thin enough and you tasted mostly oil, a not so good kind of oily taste though. Their northern style cold noodle was just not tasty and I have tried this at other restaurant. Sometime simpler is better. They used way too much sauce in this dish. The sliced fish Szechuan style was standard but oily. The one dish I would recommend is the fried lamb in cumin. You may find the lamb dish dry but it worked well this way in my opinion. Kind of like a lamb jerky almost. Right amount of spice and cumin. Their soup dumpling was disappointing, thick skin and not enough soup. Overall, food was very mediocre making me not too keen to return and try more dishes. Service was better than most Chinese restaurants so I will give them that. See my pictures. read more

Food: 4 stars for their handmade beef celery dumplings. Not as good as the ones i got in China for sure, but still pretty authentic and i def love the handmade wrappers and fillings compare to those supermarket frozen dumplings. shandong style pan fried dumplings taste blah. i will give it a 2 stars. I grew up in Shandong and i will have say these dumplings are anything but shandong style. they are just fried pork dumplings.... Sauteed Flat Noodles tasted awful... first, not that much meat in it at all; second, the flavor of the noodle is super off, def don't recommend order this dish at all... Excellent place for noodles and dumplings! Tastes authentic, good portion size for good price, nice setting for both big and small groups. I've been here a couple times and now that I live closer I'll definitely be here more often. Most recently I came with a group of 7 around 7pm on a Thursday night. We had to wait around 10 minutes to be seated. By the time we left there was a crowd waiting outside! Definitely use the waitlist feature if you come. Another time I came with a group of 15-ish people. We made a reservation for that time. There is a wide variety of dumplings, including vegetarian ones. Most can be made either steamed or fried. There are also many noodle and rice dishes. My favorite noodle dish is the Sautéed Udon Shanghai Style. Highly recommend the classics of Mini Soup Dumplings and Scallion Pancake! Despite being busy, the staff are super attentive. They noticed when my boyfriend dropped his chopsticks and gave him a new pair immediately. They also noticed when we ran out of sake and asked if we wanted another bottle. They refilled our tea when it was empty (in case you didn't know, leave the cap open to indicate that it needs refilling; this is universal to all authentic Chinese restaurants). All of this was done without us needing to get the attention of the staff ourselves! We also were able to get their attention easily when needed. Pro tip: you can get a discount if you pay in cash. I look forward to coming back often! read more

Love, love, love Dumpling House Have been ordering from here since 2016 every time I have a szechuan dried crispy spicy chicken craving (which is often). In all these years, Dumpling House has never failed to deliver. Consistent, priced fairly, and incredible service (both takeout and in-person). Besides their szechuan dried spicy chicken, other winners include: soup dumplings, scrambled eggs & beef with tomato sauce, singapore noodles, house special fried rice, and crystal shrimp dumplings. I've tried some of their other dishes as well, and all were pretty good, but these are my favorites. You just can't go wrong with Dumpling House. read more

Way better than your average Chinese food! Although this restaurant is ALWAYS crowded, they are a pretty good option to grab food to go if you are willing to stop by and pick it up. My absolute favorite every time is their chicken fried rice. There is something about the way they do it that doesn't make it seem overly greased and fattening. You get good chunks of chicken and it always tastes yummy! The sesame chicken and general tsos chicken are both pretty standard. The dumplings are fantastic (but don't get these carry out) My husband loves the crab rangoons here. Best Chinese food I have found in the area but if you are coming to sit down be prepared to wait and for it to be very very crowded, even on week nights. Make a reservation and I would say the servings are better portioned for carry out or large parties. read more
