A hidden gem! This place is sooooo freaking good. I honestly had low expectations for this place when I came across a Reddit post but I'm glad that I stopped by today. I'm a truffle/dumpling maniac & their black truffle XLB is to dieee for!! It was so juicy and bursted with truffle flavor. I noticed that there was real black truffle in it so the taste was very strong. I also recommend the pan fried pork buns!! It was definitely really juicy so use the red dumpling spoons so prevent any spilling! The least favorites were the cucumber and string beans only because I'm used to having it served in chili oil but I was able to adjust to my personal favorite flavors by using their chili oil, soy sauce & vinegar! This place hits the spot when you are looking for dumplings! Between the potstickers and shumai, I would have to pick the potstickers. In fact, I'll have to get their flavorful potstickers every time I go here. The truffle and pork buns are like a dumpling soup and the truffle flavoring is abundant...I need to try the traditional barbecue pork buns next time though. We ordered twice in one weekend and had the opportunity to try a lot of stuff. It is pricey, but we're happy to be able to get delicious dumplings delivered (twice, haha) when home sick over the weekend. Wenchang Dumpling Restaurant SF and Dumpling Baby China Bistro SF both serve Crispy Sesame Honey Chicken which is worth the trip, we stop by every time we're anywhere close in SF. I'll settle for DH's dry fried wings in a pinch, but wish they'd just serve Crispy Sesame Honey Chicken Nan King style (do it DH it'll be a best seller!!!) Green beans. Delish. The whole family loved them. MEH. PASS ON The green onion pancakes were good, but tasted... a little like Thai basil? Or something like that? I didn't love that. But hubs and kiddo like them. I've been wanting to try Dumpling Hours since they opened in Walnut Creek a few years ago. When I found out there was a location 5 mins away from where my mom lives, i told her we should try it sometime (as we love dumplings and dim sum), and did so last night. We had the ginger scallion noodles, veggie dumplings, Brussels sprouts, and the shrimp chive pockets. Of the four, our favorite was the ginger scallion noodles. Great flavor and not overly spicy. Loved the bright green color of the veggie dumplings and they didn't skimp on the filling. Brussels sprouts were crispy and the truffle flavor was not overpowering. Our least favorite was the shrimp, egg, and chive pockets as those had WAY too many chives and barely any shrimp or egg. I like chives in small doses but this amount was way too much. Only Shrek would like the insane amount of chives (because ogres are like onions, as both have layers). Despite arriving early in the evening on a Saturday night, the restaurant was not too crowded and we were able to find a table immediately. Service was quick, though the pockets took longer and were served after the other items were. The main downside that keeps me from giving 5 stars is that most of the dishes have pork. I'm pescatarian and wished they had more vegetarian and seafood only options (like har gow). We would for sure come back as we enjoyed 3/4 dishes, especially the ginger scallion noodles! read more

I wanted to love this place, because on paper it sounds amazing. I mean, what's not to love about dumplings, am I right? We got three different kinds of dumplings to sample (won tons with sesame sauce and chili oil, fried won tons and a third one I can't remember). Unfortunately they were all mediocre at best. Came with the intent of having a family style dinner and the portion sizes definitely allow for that. The food service was very quick, they have a QR code system that allows you to order right from your table. Ambiance is relaxing, light music playing but allows for conversations to be had easily. It sounds obvious but don't stray from the objective if you're coming for the dumplings. The best ones by far are the hot and spicy pork xiao long bao and ordering a cucumber salad as a side. These require absolutely no dressing or preparation and are wonderful out the kitchen. Also tried a couple versions of the noodles, the pork buns, and the "dry fried wings". I quote those because they were anything but that, overly candied in sticky sauce, heavily fried and little meat on the bone. Not my style of wings but they were hard to finish an order of 6 between 7 of us, so take that as you may. Everything else was average and required you to dress it up to make the dish stand out. In summary if you're coming for the dumplings it's worth the stop. Just wouldn't stray too far from that. read more

Wow- a brilliant gem in my neighborhood for casual dining! I found Dumpling Hours to be a dumpling delight! We were greeted warmly by the wait staff who seated us and then helped us navigate the menu so we could quickly order our meals. And the meals were FAB! We ate tsu mai, dumplings and noodles and every dish was wonderful- tasty and perfectly prepared. The seating is comfy, the noise level low enough to allow conversation and the wait staff attentive but not intrusive. I'll definitely be returning so I can try out other dishes! A+ read more

I love dim sum and this place does not disappoint. It's a small casual spot in the Oakland Lakeshore district. We walked in on a Friday evening for dinner and was seated immediately the restaurant was buzzing with couples and families with children enjoying the food. we decided on several options like cucumber salad, garlic and chive noodles, wontons, potstickers,brussel sprouts, egg rolls and pork buns were all fantastic two ladies behind the counter were energetically preparing our food, everything steamed and fried to perfection I will definitely be back to try some of their other options. We also ordered the pork steamed dumplings that came as an order of 3 giant fluffy steamed dumplings. The dumpling itself was the right amount of airy and chewy, done just right. The steamed pork was more like a steamed meatball versus the sticky pork with sauce, we thought we were ordering. The dry fried chicken wings looked delicious and while they were fried to perfection the amount of sugar literally caramelizes like candy, too much sugar if you ask me. Wish they'd use 75% less sugar. I feel the menu is exhaustive and lots to try out there and had I lived here, I'd have surely gone back to try other menu items. As an out-of-towner from the San Gabriel Valley 626 where Asian cuisine is touted, the dumplings at Dumpling Hours are comparably good. They are freshly hand-made. You can view the two women making the different dumplings to order. The skin is tender and the meat filling flavorful. The onion noodles had a slightly sweet soy sauce type flavor that was delicious. Went here with a friend mid-afternoon, seemed like they were open but didn't want to be. Service was disjointed and slow and our orders arrived in random order. One server approached us and said they were closing the register because they were taking a break, but no hurry to pay. Other server came and said 'please pay now.' Many of the employees sat and had their staff meal a few tables away. Xiao long bao were on point. I miss the places that serve them on a cabbage leaf, dumplings tend to want to stick to the perforated paper and a torn XLB is a sad thing. The dan dan noodles were poor. The space was much larger than I anticipated so plenty of room to spread out. Love the Friday hours where they don't close after lunch so I don't have to hurry to get there. Staff was attentive and super friendly and we really enjoyed the food. If, like us, you just want them to bring the food - order at once and they bring everything when it is ready. Since some of the items come to the table super hot this allows some time to cool down. If you want things more in courses, stagger your order. We enjoyed a Foggy Day IPA, the Xiao Long Bao (probably my fav), Pan-fried Pork Buns (wait, this might be my fav), and Chicken with Shiitake Mushroom Dumpling. The Dumpling Hours empire just keeps growing and growing thanks to this third location in the East Bay. Located near the shores of Lake Merritt along Lakeshore Boulevard, this edition of Dumpling Hours recently opened just a few weeks ago taking over the former ornate brick and stone space in which Rolling Dunes brunch house was located for years. After experiencing the majesty of their baked Xiao Long Baos at their Walnut Creek location, I knew that making my way to their new location in Oakland was only a matter of time. When a pair of friends suggested that we go out to dinner early Sunday evening, I thought, what better place to enjoy a new place in a neighborhood that I usually do not go to enjoy a nice dinner? The parking situation around the Lakeshore neighborhood is usually daunting, as with so many shops, restaurants and a popular movie theatre, things can be scarce, and in the late afternoon, things were no different. Luckily I found a space in a residential area to no doubt the consternation of the local residents where I felt secure enough to leave my car, for even an hour and a half. I was so concerned about this location being as packed as is the case with their other two locations, with a line out the door, thankfully on the evening we went that was the not the case, as there was plenty of room to be sat, and although the restaurant was filled as we ate and finally left and no doubt lines were soon to be forming. The menu at this location is similar to that of their other locations, with the exception being the prices being about a dollar more, maybe taking into consideration that they were now in a higher income area in a bigger square footage restaurant. With an emphasis on their signature dumplings the menu is separated into categories including Appetizer, Steamed, Vegetable, Soup, Pan Fried, Boiled, Noodles, and Fried. Of all of their Steamed Xiao Long Baos, we feel that their Pork Xiao Long Baos taste the best, so we ordered their eight piece serving. We also ordered their Dry Fried Chicken Wings, Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Buns, and Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle Soup. With four entrées to split between the three of us, we knew this would be more than enough food. With their juicy steamed Pork Xiao Baos being served first, our dinner was off and running thanks to the soupy piping hot delights that are individually handcrafted and some of the best I have ever tasted. Then came one of my favorite dishes in their Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Buns which are deep fried versions of their steamed dumplings. The other favorite dish of mine was their Spicy Beef Brisket Noodle Soup, which is equal parts savory and spicy and filled with an abundance of fresh ingredients that could make it a meal unto itself. We had a nice time at Dumpling Hours-Oakland, and with their new location, we can't wait to experience them again. Our chicken wings were quite frankly the one miss of our meal as they were small and over fried and over sauced. Our total bill was $70.84 before gratuity was added in, which in this day and age for four entrées is rather reasonable. The service at this location could use a little work as we had to ask for glasses of water to begin our meal as they wouldn't come around to take our order until we flagged someone down to do so. Nevertheless the fact that the Dumpling Hours chain is growing and expanding into the Oakland neighborhood only serves as good news for enthusiastic fans of this burgeoning franchise. If you like your meat filled dumplings steamed, boiled or pan-fried, they are all here and still taste as good as the next location. So for this fact alone, we should be grateful that the Dumpling Hours' clock continues to tick and tick round and round. read more

I'd skip out on the chicken wings. The flavor was good, but I wasn't a fan of the sticky sauce. It was sticking to my teeth quite a bit while I was chewing. The Dan Dan Sesame Paste Dry Noodles and the Spicy Pork Wonton with Sesame Sauce Chili Oil were basically cold when brought to the table. The flavors for these two dishes seemed a bit watered down and I expected way more sesame paste in both. The beef xiao long bao and Juicy Pan-Fried Pork Buns were hot and hit the spot. A bit overpriced but what isn't these days. You can order via QR code or from a real person so that was nice. It was decently busy on a Tuesday night so don't be surprised if you have to wait. The hour for dumplings is here... The xiao long bao is the best thing on the menu. Excellent soup. My 10 year old eats a whole order of these himself. We have tried xiao long bao all over and these are quality. Definitely the best in Oakland. Five stars just for that. The rest of the menu is good. I like the ginger and scallion noodles, it is different from the usual noodles I get. The other dumpling offerings are also pretty good. The green beans are not of the same quality as other dim sum places but still pretty good. The food comes out QUICK. You order from a QR code app and it must be some efficient system that goes right to the cooks. Also, it's a xiao long bao place, they just keep cranking those out, makes for fast service. The servers are usually pretty busy so you will not get that very personal service but that is an acceptable tradeoff for quick food. Especially with kids! read more

I have mixed feelings about the new restaurant on lakeshore Ave. The food was good. I really liked the soup-y xiao long baos the steamed dumplings. But the service was really poor in my opinion. They were busy on a Sunday lunch time but not extremely busy with lines waiting or anything like that. I am sure they will get their act together soon as they figure things out but it felt like bit of chaos being inside with servers scrambling to find the tables with their orders, things falling and breaking and never being brought my plate with chopsticks and the soup spoon - I asked for some and they only brought a plate so I had to get up and just get what I needed from the table nearby.
