Dumpling House has become one of our favorite late afternoon spots, especially because they stay open between lunch and dinner when so many restaurants close. It's always a great option when you're looking for a delicious meal outside the usual dining hours. The dumplings are consistently fresh and flavorful, with a nice variety of seafood, vegetarian, and meat options. We also enjoy their side dishes, especially the cucumber salad and potato salad. The family who runs the restaurant is always friendly, and the service is warm and efficient. My only suggestions would be to add a shrimp- or seafood-only dumpling option and another vegetable or salad choice to round out the menu. Overall, we love this place and will continue coming back. Small family owned restaurant that specializes in dumplings although I'd recommend other items over the dumplings. Parking can be a challenge in this semi residential commercial area. Interior is spartan and sits maybe 20 at the most. Ordered: - Shandong Xiaolong Bun - doughy, dry, and flavorless. You'll need to use a lot of condiments to help it out. - Cucumber Salad - good, tasty item - Beef Burrito - aka beef rolls in other Northern Chinese restaurants, lots of meat and other fillings in this freshly made item. Needed a little more hoisin sauce but overall worth getting. - Corn and Chicken Dumpling, meaty however tasteless, you'll need vinegar, soy, and hot sauce to help this one out As for service, you'll need to go to the front counter to ask for help, ie...getting soy sauce or dipping plates, asking for more water, getting the check or take-home boxes. Seems more like a take-out place with tables as an afterthought. No Public Restroom....not sure how a restaurant that takes tips can get away with no public restroom. We decided to try this dumpling place! Small, homey vibe; friendly staff; and overall a tasty experience. We ordered the green onion pancake; pork xiaolongbao bao; shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings; and garlic cucumber salad. The green onion pancake was fantastic. Would order again. Did wish they have Chinese style chili sauce; would've gone fantastically. Crispy and good flavor: The garlic cucumber salad was also delicious. Not spectacular but nicely executed and tasty. The shrimp, pork, and chive dumplings were okay. Texture and size and ratio seemed spot-on. However it was on the bland side. The xiaolongbao bao was a format we hadn't tried before for xiaolongbao. We were satisfied with it but preferred the more common xiaolongbao in dumpling format (vs a bao). Bathroom was blocked off, which was a slight inconvenience. Free street parking was easy to find, as the restaurant is not on a particular busy stretch of road. Decent neighborhood dumpling place, and it will do the job if you're in a pinch. We recommend the green onion pancake and garlic cucumber salad. If we returned we would do takeout and probably try another bao. read more

Very nice staff, however the food definitely falls short I think they may need to work on their refrigeration, or pork source, as the pork in both my dishes was slightly sour, and didn't taste fresh Shan Dong XLB - no soupy interior, and the meatball inside was miniscule, I'm talking the tip of your thumb size Chive, shrimp, pork dumpling - the shrimp was decent, however the pork inside was sour, leading me to believe that the pork is the issue at this place There was a baby fly stuck to the inside of my daughter's mason jar of water which she pointed out at the end of the meal. The sink in the bathroom had a basin that was catching water drippings that I actually had to pull out and put to the side then put back in. No paper towels to grab the doorknob with. We ordered for take out and service was fast. It only took 15 minutes. It's a small family owned restaurant with 4-5 tables. You have to call to order, they don't do online orders. We ordered the veggie dumplings, potato salad, cucumber salad, and onion pancakes. It was enough food for 2. The veggie dumplings were tasty and chewy and so good. The onion pancake was the best, it was flaky, chewy and full of flavors. Best onion pancake we've had. Both cucumber and potato salads were delicious. I would definitely recommend coming here if you like dim sum. We also love supporting small businesses, especially when they are just down the street from home. First, their bathroom was gross and the door wouldn't close properly. We ordered the shandong baos, beef something (Forgot the name), egg and chive Pocket, shrimp and pork dumplings, and green onion pancake. The best items were the dumplings and egg and chive pocket. I wish the Shandong baos had more meat filling, the ratio was weak. The green onion pancake honestly didn't taste homemade. The beef was really flavorless and lacked "something". The shrimp and pork dumplings were great. Chewy exterior with a solid piece of shrimp in each dumpling. The former Bamboo Kitchen is now Dumpling House. A very bare bones atmosphere at this new place. It was interesting our silverware was plastic takeout utensils and some serving dishes were paper or plastic takeout containers! Our server today only spoke Mandarin so she had an English speaking person on her cell to help translate the order. Interesting but effective. We ordered the pork and shrimp dumplings as well as the pork and corn. A dozen in an order and a good size! Both were tasty. Skin was a bit thicker than I like but still delicious. The poached chicken with chili sauce was interesting. Shredded chicken and cilantro. A bit salty. Probably not our fav. Asked for it to be mild. The egg and chive pocket was very good and we would order again. They gave us a complimentary green onion pancake. It was ok -- liked the egg and chive pocket much better. Dumpling House just opened, and on Sunday I dropped by and ordered some items. As a soft opening, they had some bugs in their system. The young lady working the counter didn't speak English very well, and had to use translation software to speak to me. I ordered: - Poached Chicken w/ Spicy Chili Sauce - Veggie Spring Rolls - Potstickers - Fresh Pork Buns I was offered Green Onion Pancake to try (free) In general, the food was okay. I really liked the Poached Chicken w/ Chili Sauce. It's meant as an appetizer dish. It tasted just like Chinese Chicken Salad, but without the shredded lettuce. I also liked the Pork Buns and Green Onion Pancakes. What didn't I like? The Potstickers were small, maybe half the size of what I usually see in a Chinese restaurant. The Veggie Spring Rolls had a mushy filling. You only get three (3) Spring Rolls. The menu picture shows five (5). I was told everything was made fresh, not from frozen. Came by for dinner the other night. They've taken over from what used to be a very small Chinese restaurant that looked like it was takeout only. It turns out that they have a small dining room in the back with about six tables. Service was fine. I wasn't a big fan of the cucumber salad because I don't like cucumbers. The dumplings were good. Dumpling dreams do come true! So we finally checked out the new spot in Alameda we'd been eyeing. It's a quirky little place - think picnic at grandma's but indoors: plastic tablecloths, floral chair covers, tv blastng in the background We typically visit East Ocean, but it's consistently crowded and expensive. The dumplings at Dumpling House have a more homemade taste, and we enjoy the warmer atmosphere of the family-run spot. Service - The guy helping us was super kind, had a thick accent but understood everything. He kicked things off with free fried cinnamon crisps. We started with the poached chicken and a cucumber salad. The chicken came out looking slightly different than the menu photo--shredded and a bit dry for being poached --but the cucumber salad came to redeem the appetizer round. Crunchy and delicious! Then came the dumplings: shrimp, pork & chive, and the tomato & beef (12 for $13.99). Both were hefty, doughy, and surprisingly... juicy inside? Like mini soup bombs. Surprisingly delicious and would 100% get them again. We also tried the pork and cabbage pot stickers, which were good, but the soupy dumplings were the real stars! We had the Shrimp & Pork Dumplings, Cucumber Salad, Poached Chicken in Chili Sauce, Pork Potstickers and the Green Onion Pancakes. Everything tasted amazing. A new family-run place worth a visit for the dumplings, which are excellent. However, I would skip the two side dishes next time. The highlight: Excellent dumplings made with tofu, carrots, zucchini, and vermicelli noodles. Tried these both fresh and cooked up from frozen the next day (more economical buy for 15 to an order vs. cooked up in restaurant). They have a wide variety of dumplings and I look forward to trying the other kinds on offer. The good: Egg and chive pockets were tasty with a lot of both (very fresh) ingredients...except for too salty for my taste, so be forewarned if you are salt sensitive. The not so great: The pancakes were advertised as green onion pancakes, but only had a tiny tiny amount of green onions--would not order this as one could get the same thing at a grocery store for much less with actual green onions in the pancake. We were excited to try this new spot. Maybe we ordered all the wrong things but there are not many options yet. Bao were bland and filling was a dry little ball in the middle. Potstickers and green onion pancakes were just okay. Cucumbers were nice and crunchy. Opening a restaurant has to be one of the hardest things to do and we didn't taste anything that seemed done with any real interest, skill or like a specialty. I'd rather try another restaurant or heat up some TJ's products. read more

Unexpected gem in local food scene. The food is delicious and comes out hot. The best dish in our opinion is the egg & chive pocket. They brought us complimentary pickled cucumbers and sweet fried wonton skins. As for the dumplings they were plump and hot. This place is no frills and goes to show that you don't need to spend a lot of money to serve up hot and tasty food. Do not expect regular serving plates. Everything is served in to take-out containers, which is sort of an environmental disaster, but then again, so is washing a lot of plates thru a dishwashing machine. Dumplings - 1) Pork and celery - SO JUICY. And great celery flavor; 2) Shrimp and pork dumplings - also very juicy. You can turn these into dumplings in soup for an added $1. Egg and chive pocket - one of my childhood favorites! Though these cannot compare to the versions at Shan Dong in Oakland, they will substitute in a pinch if you are a BIG chive lover. Dip it in hot sauce. Scallion onion pancake - Needed more scallions, but served piping hot. Mala spiced poached chicken - good, but somewhat of a miss because I thought it could have used more herbs and lighter hand on the sauce. Chili cucumbers - cool and refreshing, crispy cucumbers with a spicy sauce. Potstickers - if you're looking for big Daddies these aren't it and probably a disappointment for most. Small and thrown into the deep fryer. Not my favorite. The server had to FaceTime her Chef because she spoke Mandarin and I did not. However, this interaction only added to the fun of the restaurant and most importantly, I received the correct food items. And surprisingly, the server also gave me free fried snacks with honey drizzled on top. Though I did not eat many of the snacks, I thought it was a nice touch to build goodwill. What a happy surprise this place was after driving by it for years. On a whim, we ordered later on Sunday night. When arriving for pick-up, we were greeted warmly and our food was ready on time. As it was a slow night, I think I met most of the family working there. The food was HOT and DELICIOUS!!! That ambiance perhaps isn't the best for dining-in but that's a small thing compared to the awesome variety of dumplings, potstickers and scallion pancakes we got! Dumplings came 12 to the order!
