Refreshing oranges and almond cookies are complimentary
    Nora W.

We decided to take a trip to Alameda and was this restaurant a hit! The beef chow fun was very traditional and portions were generous. The eggplant tofu with garlic sauce could be adjusted to your spice level preference. Tender eggplant and hot tender fried tofu were gorgeous. Finally, the salt-and-pepper juicy crunchy wings were humongous. Addicting. Hot, fresh, crispy, and juicy. The refreshing oranges with house-made almond cookies are amazing. Cool and sweet oranges cleanse the palate. Delicate crunchy cookies are light and barely sweet. What a meal! Large party trays were wheeled out to customers in-the-know for takeout. Reasonable prices and large portions. Owners are the wait staff and so welcoming!

The food is so good. Always huge portions. The fries and fried chicken are my favorite hehe The bittermelon is not that bitter and was good! The eggplant tofu was sooooo good!!! The veggies are delicious. Food is definitely on the oily end but hey that's the best part of eating out They give you cookies and oranges as dessert for free.. my favorite. The cookies are SOOOOO GOOD. Staff is always so nice.

Saw they slightly raised prices but still great value for great food. Getting busier inside so slightly longer wait times but still very attentive staff. Cozy feel and great place for catching up with friends. Even saw a family having a birthday party here

Genghis Khan has catered every party I've hosted for years, and they never disappoint! The service is consistently top-notch: professional, reliable, and always seamless from start to finish. The food is absolutely delicious, and you truly can't go wrong with anything on the menu. That said, the real star at all of our parties is their sushi platter. We always order two large platters, and without fail, it's the first thing to disappear. Guests rave about it every single time! If you're looking for catering that's dependable and guaranteed to impress, Genghis Khan is it.

I went back to try the rice plates, and I was impressed with the portions. I ordered Mongolian Beef and Fried Rice. The food was fresh, hot, and tasty. What's lacking is a complete menu for lunch plates. Usually lunch plates include a small soup or egg rolls. I tried to add a small soup, and I had very limited choices. I had to settle for won ton soup.

Hole in the wall but serves up huge portions of food at a reasonable price. Ordered lunch specials with beef with broccoli with fried rice and sesame chicken with chow mein. Loved they give you the option of choosing thin noodles or the thicker noodles. Food came out pretty fast, well seasoned and not too salty. Beef and broccoli was cooked to my liking. The sesame chicken was cooked in a thin batter which I appreciate as many places will use a lot of flour and not much chicken. I did not get that here, which is great. Again huge portions, we had 2 take out boxes full of leftovers. We then ordered beef chow fun and salted fish and chicken fried rice to go. Those boxes were also packed to the brim! Beef chow fun was pretty good but the salted fish and fried chicken needed more salted fish. Will be back to try other items on the menu. Server May super friendly and welcoming!

This is one of my favorite places in alameda. Good price, big portions and the staff is super friendly. Always love coming back to this place :)

Walnut Shrimp Lunch Special - Pass on this

Limited range of Cantonese food from noodles to rice dishes. The things they do make, they do make well. Went as a group for lunch, no more buffet - that's in the past, but now they have gigantic portions of Salt & Pepper Pork Chop, Peking Pork Chops, and especially gigantic Seafood Pan Fried Noodles. Appeared to be a whole bag of noodles. They also do a Chicken and Veggie Pan Fried Noodles which is also big. We tried requesting a Tomato Beef Pan Fried Noodles or a Chinese Beef Stew Pan Fried Noodles but they couldn't do it. Said no Tomatoes....and no Beef Stew. Pass on the Walnut Shrimp.....They're also well known in Alameda for their Almond Cookies...3 for a dollar. Parking can be a challenge on busy Park Street.

I grew up eating at Genghis Khan and I miss when they were a buffet before the pandemic. Even after my family still comes here for large family parties. The food may not be top tier Chinese food but it does taste pretty good and you get your moneys worth for the amount they give. The service is usually pretty quick, friendly and accommodating even when I pop in for a lunch plate or for pick up. I know its wishful thinking that they would become a buffet again but im still a loyal customer even with all the other Chinese options on this side of Alameda.

This is now my favorite Chinese restaurant in Alameda. Huge portions, extremely tasty food! May, the server is the best. She told us that 90% of the orders are takeout. Note that the restaurant is no longer buffet nor Mongolian BBQ. -- just sit down or takeout Chinese since the pandemic. Do you like leftovers? Cantonese Chinese food? This is the place for you. A no frills restaurant but the food more than makes up for it. My neighbors brought this food over a year ago and I finally returned twice this week-- once for dinner (7 dishes for $95) and lunch (3 lunch specials and one chow mein for $50). I picked up their party menu for a future event I'm hosting and the prices really continue to look reasonable. Our favs: salt and pepper chicken wings, bitter melon chicken, eggplant tofu, string beans beef, special order of salted fish/chicken fried rice for dinner. The lunch specials include a huge amount of rice or chow mein and your main dish -- we loved the shrimp and mixed veggies, basil fish and string beans and the chicken and tofu (looked like a whole container of tofu on the plate!). You may have to wait a bit for your food if dining in because it seems they are short handed. But be patient because your taste buds will be dancing when you finally taste everything!

Ended up going to Chong Qing noodle house and it was a smart decision. We walked over and immediately greeted by the very nice lady. We said to go so we grabbed a menu and sat down. She also recommended the wonton and some cucumbers but we ended up just getting the wonton in addition to the noodles. They prepared our foood quickly and we had it to go We took our food to the alameda brewery and as soon as open the noodles - it already smelled so good. Those noodles were amazing!!!! About 15 seconds after we got our menus, that one of the servers was hovering over us. We were trying to make our decision but she would just not leave us alone, and kept pointing out options. It felt more like pressure than anything. Once we ordered the food came fairly quickly. The wings were incredibly flavorful, I'd order again in a heartbeat. The dumplings were delicious. My biggest complaint was how pushy the server was. I wanted to leave but I thought my niece wanted to stay so I didn't say anything. While we were leaving my niece said she was very uncomfortable there, but didn't want to say anything. The food was delicious, but we both agreed we'd probably order delivery next time. Our in person experience was just too unpleasant.

I knew I wanted good Chinese food in a clean, safe area--not in Oakland, but with food just as good. We found Hong Kong City Cafe in Alameda, and the reviews looked promising. We walked in around 8:20 p.m., and the gentleman at the front let us know they closed at 9 p.m. I appreciated him making sure we knew before we sat down. We ordered some of our usual dishes so we could compare them to our favorite Chinese spot. The pork fried rice was good, but it had a little too much shredded lettuce for our liking. Thankfully, the pork was super tender and flavorful, so I would still give it an 8/10. I ordered the Wor Wonton Soup, and it probably had the best broth I've ever had. I can't explain the flavor--it was just DELICIOUS. It came loaded with pork, beef, shrimp, chicken, and shrimp-filled wontons. My husband ordered the Sweet and Sour Chicken, and we both agreed it was the best we've ever had. I think the char on the vegetables really makes a difference. We also tried the Walnut Shrimp. It tasted more natural than other walnut shrimp we've had. We wished the shrimp had a little more crunch, but it was still really good. Overall, this was a 4/5-star experience. We wish we could have stayed longer, but they were closing, so we didn't want to hold them up. There was also a table of about 10 people drinking that made the restaurant really loud. Obviously, that's not the restaurant's fault, but it did affect our experience.

We definitely way over-ordered despite the larger headcount. However, the food pacing was really off. We only had a few dishes come out initially, which everyone just picked at while chatting away. And it wasn't until quite a bit into the meal when the dishes started coming fast and hard. And next thing we knew, the table was piled high with food that all seemingly arrived at once. I was dining alone and ordered only shrimp dumplings and a glass of Chardonnay, yet the wait was excessive. The wine arrived in what looked like a tasting-sized pour, and at $16 a glass, it felt particularly disappointing--especially since it was the only white wine option available. The restaurant itself felt neglected. The tables were wobbly, the décor was dated, there was a noticeable cigarette smell, and I even had to replace my own chopsticks after noticing lipstick on the pair initially provided. After waiting so long for my food, I stood up to ask for my check and cancel the order. At that point, the dumplings suddenly appeared, along with an offer of a fried bun as compensation. I declined and suggested they at least comp the wine given the experience, but they did not. The final bill was nearly $30 for a mediocre glass of wine and shrimp dumplings that were undercooked and unappetizing enough that I threw them away after a few bites. If you're looking for a quick meal before a movie, I'd strongly recommend going elsewhere. This was a disappointing waste of both time and money.
