I've lived in Alameda for over 5 years and had this on my list of places to eat since I moved here. I finally went and was not disappointed . First of all, broccoli beef, broccoli beef, broccoli beef. Just hands down the highlight for me. The broccoli is cooked to perfection and such nice quality. The flavor of the sauce is so smooth and tasty. It's my must have, and I've NEVER been a broccoli beef fan. The prices are soooo reasonable and two people can order a special, which is a main dish plus rice or chow main, and eat on that meal twice. That means slot these days. The woman who waits on you is so sweet and made sure we ordered smart to maximize our dollars. This place is classic looking inside with just enough "worn" look to let me know it'd been there a long time, and I learned that's for a good reason. The food and prices are hard to beat. I came by recently for lunch and haven't been here in a long time. Before they had the Mongolian bbq set up. This restaurant has been here for decades and the decor inside shows it. Very outdated but the prices are cheap for lunch. I got the prawns and mixed vegetables. Very generous portions and fresh ingredients. A tad on the salty side but still good. We decided to take a trip to Alameda and was this restaurant a hit! The beef chow fun was very traditional and portions were generous. The eggplant tofu with garlic sauce could be adjusted to your spice level preference. Tender eggplant and hot tender fried tofu were gorgeous. Finally, the salt-and-pepper juicy crunchy wings were humongous. Addicting. Hot, fresh, crispy, and juicy. The refreshing oranges with house-made almond cookies are amazing. What's lacking is a complete menu for lunch plates. Usually lunch plates include a small soup or egg rolls. I tried to add a small soup, and I had very limited choices. Hole in the wall but serves up huge portions of food at a reasonable price. Ordered lunch specials with beef with broccoli with fried rice and sesame chicken with chow mein. Loved they give you the option of choosing thin noodles or the thicker noodles. Food came out pretty fast, well seasoned and not too salty. Beef and broccoli was cooked to my liking. The sesame chicken was cooked in a thin batter which I appreciate as many places will use a lot of flour and not much chicken. I did not get that here, which is great. Again huge portions, we had 2 take out boxes full of leftovers. We then ordered beef chow fun and salted fish and chicken fried rice to go. Those boxes were also packed to the brim! I ordered the sesame chicken that came with your choice of vegetable fried rice, chow mein or Chinese noodles. I chose the fried rice which was very good. The service was spotty although there were several very large parties so, it was okay. The resturant is cafeteria style feel with an old buffet counter that is no longer used I'm told since covid. Went as a group for lunch, no more buffet - that's in the past, but now they have gigantic portions of Salt & Pepper Pork Chop, Peking Pork Chops, and especially gigantic Seafood Pan Fried Noodles. Appeared to be a whole bag of noodles. They also do a Chicken and Veggie Pan Fried Noodles which is also big. We tried requesting a Tomato Beef Pan Fried Noodles or a Chinese Beef Stew Pan Fried Noodles but they couldn't do it. Said no Tomatoes....and no Beef Stew. Pass on the Walnut Shrimp.....They're also well known in Alameda for their Almond Cookies...3 for a dollar. Parking can be a challenge on busy Park Street. read more

I grew up eating at Genghis Khan and I miss when they were a buffet before the pandemic. Even after my family still comes here for large family parties. The food may not be top tier Chinese food but it does taste pretty good and you get your moneys worth for the amount they give. The service is usually pretty quick, friendly and accommodating even when I pop in for a lunch plate or for pick up. This is now my favorite Chinese restaurant in Alameda. Huge portions, extremely tasty food! May, the server is the best. She told us that 90% of the orders are takeout. Note that the restaurant is no longer buffet nor Mongolian BBQ. -- just sit down or takeout Chinese since the pandemic. Do you like leftovers? Cantonese Chinese food? This is the place for you. A no frills restaurant but the food more than makes up for it. My neighbors brought this food over a year ago and I finally returned twice this week-- once for dinner (7 dishes for $95) and lunch (3 lunch specials and one chow mein for $50). I picked up their party menu for a future event I'm hosting and the prices really continue to look reasonable. Our favs: salt and pepper chicken wings, bitter melon chicken, eggplant tofu, string beans beef, special order of salted fish/chicken fried rice for dinner. The lunch specials include a huge amount of rice or chow mein and your main dish -- we loved the shrimp and mixed veggies, basil fish and string beans and the chicken and tofu (looked like a whole container of tofu on the plate!). You may have to wait a bit for your food if dining in because it seems they are short handed. But be patient because your taste buds will be dancing when you finally taste everything! read more

Wandered in while browsing on Park St, sat down in a near empty restaurant yet greeted immediately, sat and drink order taken. We ordered salt and pepper tofu and three lunch plates at dinner, thinking they were single portions. Each lunch plate was more than enough to share with leftovers and rice for three on each plate. Genghis Khan Kitchen on Park St. (Alameda) gets a 2 thumbs up review from my mum, my Papi, and me. Not too salty or over flavoured. The size portions are too large for an order in my opinion (but who's complaining!) . Prices are reasonable. They even made a special order not on the menu by our request. We got wonton soup, crab , beef, sweet and sour fish, and deep fried chicken wings all for like $89.99 before taxes. And they give oranges wedges and cookies for dessert for free. Service is fantastic. When you walk in, the restaurant has enough room to hold a reception for a celebration. This is a good thing for our family who ate here for a family birthday with over 20 individuals. We were able to order some food entrees that were. It on on the menu and I love that option for our family who has so many food restrictions that many restaurants aren't very happy with us but at Genghis Khan Kitchen they were very accommodating and friendly. There is very little I don't like about this place. The staff is always friendly, they treat me like family. The dish selection is large and has all your standard Chinese food choices includes things like Bitter Melon with Beef which you can't find everywhere. The portions are enormous and always easy to share. It's best to do family style when you're here. Also, their prices are super competitive considering how much food you get. I also love ordering their large sushi platter for parties. It's not fine dining, but everyone loves the variety and how much food it is. It really spices up a potluck or whatever event you're attending. They do big catering portions too. FYI, the buffet is currently closed. My family and I ordered a la carte Mongolian Beef, Walnut Shrimp, and Beef Chow Mein. When the dishes came out of the kitchen, we were all shocked to see how much food was brought out. Each dish was piled high with mouth watering awesomeness. The Walnut Shrimp was spot on with a crispy, sweet, and tangy jumbo shrimp placed on top of a fresh bed of lettuce. The Mongolian beef was soft, mildly spicy, and stir fried with fresh veggies. The food and service was so good. 5 star service and everyone was so genuinely friendly. We had such a positive experience, we ordered to go a large Sushi Party Tray. The sushi tray is INSANELY big. There was so much food. Quality too. The sushi rice was cooked and flavored to perfection, and the salmon was cut with skill.
