Duck wonton

No frills, good Cantonese restaurant. Large menu selection and fast service. Favorite thing was the roast duck wonton noodle soup, but seems like you can't go wrong with anything on the menu

Good food but pricey for a hole in the wall spot in Oakland Chinatown. I came here for lunch Saturday afternoon around noon and expected it to be busy. Surprisingly it was almost empty with only one other diner. I seated myself as the sole employee in the restaurant didn't look up or acknowledge me as I walked in and stood around for ~30 seconds. No one else came out from the back either until a few minutes later. Menus were already placed at some of the tables, so I grabbed one to peruse. They have a huge selection of rice and noodle dishes. I went with the barbecue duck leg and wonton in noodle soup for $15.15. My noodle came out within 10 minutes, which was pretty quick. Both the duck leg and the wontons were delicious and the noodles have the springiness to them that I expected, so food was good. I just don't know if it's worth the price as after tax and tip it was close to $19 for the bowl. It initially didn't look like that much food, but I was stuffed by the time I finished eating and didn't get that hungry even around dinnertime, so portions are good here. While I was eating, a bunch of customers came in to buy their bbq duck and pork to go, among other things. It costs $35 for a whole duck, and both the bbq pork and roast pork costs ($15.95/lb) at the time of this review. I haven't bought bbq duck in a while, but man prices have really gone up! This is a hole in the wall spot. Tables looked and felt a bit sticky when I touched them. The menu looked dirty. So know what you're in for if you're planning to dine here.

We were wanting to get some Chinese roast pork (pork belly) before we headed home, and we came across this shop and decided to give it a try. So we got about 1.5 pounds of their roast pork, which was quite delicious and tasty. Flavor was spot on, and the meat was pretty tender and juicy. The skin on the pork was still crunchy but, since we bought it at around 3 PM, it wasn't as crunchy as if we had bought it earlier in the day. But, regardless, it was still delicious. Price as of September of 2024 was either $16 or $17 per pound, I can't fully recall. So, I think the price was reasonable and decent.

Huge portions that'll definitely hit the spot. Detailed breakdown below: **Service, 5/5** Nothing fancy, but they're efficient. They seated a big group of us, got us all hot tea, and all our food came out within 20 minutes. **Price & portion, 5/5** All the rice plates were huge and piled with glistening BBQ. With most dishes priced at about $12 and the most expensive thing on the menu at $16.90, you'll definitely fill up and might even have enough rice to bring home for lunch the next day. **Taste of the food, 4.5/5** - Duck leg and wonton soup with wide noodles, 4.5/5: The broth was light but had great flavor and the wontons were juicy and packed full of meat. The duck leg was perfectly fatty, had phenomenal flavor, and was really well seasoned. The rice noodles themselves were just alright, so I'll probably go for a rice plate next time. - Duck and roast pork rice plate, 4.5/5: The duck was amazing, and chili oil added to the plate gave everything a savory and spicy kick. The roast pork was juicy and had great flavor but the skin wasn't crispy. **Other notes** Cash only. Free street parking in the evenings or a parking garage near the library that's only $3/hour and pretty safe. Hours on here might not be accurate so maybe call to check if they're open if you plan on coming after 6pm.

I decided to explore Oakland Chinatown a bit more after discovering Shandong restaurant last week. This restaurant is another one that looks intimidating from the outside but has decent reviews. The inside is very small with very few seatings. I believe most people order to-go from here than actually dinning here. The restaurant takes cash only, which is very annoying since I rarely even carry wallet anymore after getting used to Apple Pay. Luckily I was prepared and had some cash on me. The food was alright but not outstanding. I was happy to find some exotic dishes that I couldn't find in other Chinese restaurants such as pig tongue. The fried rice was very oily and the noodle tasted instant. I probably won't return unless I want to to-go some exotic dishes.

Reviewing again! My previous review needs to be redeemed! I love this place! It always bring back memories especially considering my mom went here while she was young. Their duck is always so juicy and flavorful. My go-to place for sure. At this point the owners knows our usual owners before asking us. Ask for their duck sauce while you're at it, it enhances the flavor even more!

Did you also come here after seeing that tik tok/ig reel video about someone's mom being a restaurant owner for 30 years and her favorite restaurant in the bay is this place and she always orders the same dish: the wonton noodle soup with bbq duck and get a side of crispy pork?! I gotta say my expectations where way too high bc mom recs come with a lot of anticipation for me and I was honestly (sadly) disappointed by it. The wontons were really good and got a lot of bite to it but the noodles weren't my vibe and the broth comes out pretty much unseasoned (the table comes with condiments though so use them!). The bbq duck is fatty and yummy but for people unfamiliar with some Chinese bbq dishes be warned that it will be served room temperature. generous portions and price was around $12. We also ordered the chow mein and we were pleasantly surprised by it! Noodles were perfectly crispy and it comes with an assortment of meat ranging from pork, duck, and seafood. Sauce was delicious. Honestly we were too full to enjoy the pork but we took it home as leftovers and they were delicious the next day after popping them in the toaster oven. Ate it with some rice and ssamjang. Worth checking out but manage your expectations! And bring cash!

Just like a lot of other recent posts, I tried this place out thanks to a TikTok video. Yes, I am easily influenced. But also, I don't feel bad about it. TikTok in many ways have brought more love and attention to places that deserve more business - and i.am.here.for.it! Anyways, I had the one dish mentioned - the noodles with bbq duck, wontons and thick wide rice noodles (called hor fun btw). Well actually, I had two forms of it - the other with the default wonton noodles. I can confirm that hor fun version is much better - neither noodles aren't anything fancy because it's just typical packaged noodles but the thick wide rice noodles carry the flavor better of the broth. Also, it's worth noting that I am not a duck person and debated on skipping the duck but you definitely can taste the duck in the broth and as a non-non-duck person, I found the broth and meat quite fitting! I got my food to-go and didn't think I compromised any flavor (but perhaps some of the noodle texture as it got quite soft). Note: If you do take out, they put the soup directly into the noodle (not separate) but they put that soup in when you come and pick up so it's not sitting in the noodles at least till you come! Overall, I found the broth very flavorful and the wontons very tasty. I also tried the BBQ pork which wasn't bad. I would probably come back and try other things!

I've always passed by this place whenever I go to Chinatown but never tried it until now. They have pretty good noodle soups and Chinese bbq meats. I tried their bbq duck and wonton noodle soup (got the ho fun noodles), green beans, and beef chow fun. All were very authentic. Their bbq duck was good in the noodle soup and even gave the soup some added flavors with the bbq taste. The wontons I thought were alright, not the best. Their beef chow fun was on the more oilier side. I know beef chow fun is usually oily but this one was extremely oily. You won't need lip gloss after the meal. It had the smoky wok flavor too. Their green beans were really good and flavorful. They were oily too but it was delicious. There's only one lady working as server and cashier so the service can be pretty slow especially during lunch hours. This place is CASH ONLY so be prepared.

This place really hit the spot on a rainy day! Had a bowl of their duck and wonton soup w/ thick wide noodles would recommend getting duck breast instead of leg (really fatty) Wontons are thick and flavorful. Don't forget to add some chili oil! Will be back to try more things on the menu.

Yung kee has some good fried rice. Very tasteful. Very fulfilling. Their BBQ pork is mummy too. Well seasoned and great bbq taste. Looks can be deceiving but as a true helper and leaving reviews this place has good food. I haven't had any other menu items in awhile besides the fried rice and BBQ pork. But my other half likes the roasted pork. The lady and guy in the front are nice and kind. If you're looking for some good Chinese food give them a try. Like the portions that they give out too.

Apparently this place is an Oakland staple, and after trying it I can tell why. Yung Kee is a hole in the wall restaurant located in Oakland Chinatown and one of their must try's is the wonton soup with crispy duck . Everything about it was BOMB! The broth was rich and flavorful, the wontons were big and full, and the duck was melt in your mouth perfection with crispy crunchy skin that hit just right with every bite. Just keep in mind, this place IS cash only, but don't let that stop you from trying this delicious restaurant! A few things to note on a more serious note: it's street parking only so you'll most likely have to walk a little to get to this spot, but it's not so bad. And the reason why it's not 5 stars inspite of the amazing food? It felt like we got profiled. I went with my fiance and brother in law (both black) and my cousin and his wife (asian and white/latin). When my cousin went to order, they took his order and allowed him to sit back down. When my fiance ordered, they charged him right away (however, they didn't give him a receipt). He paid the gentleman that was working the front at the time. When we got up to leave, one of the female workers yelled for us to stop and that we needed to pay. And it wasn't until the guy we paid told her that she said "oh ok, have a good day". Bit of a downer to an otherwise delicious experience, but considering the over all experience I would still come back (unless this happened again).

My sister had remembered an article in the SF Chronicle's Food section which ranked Misty's Tasty as "top-ranked" and "best, authentic dim sum in the East Bay". There is nothing fancy about this place and don't expect white table cloths and napkins. Once seated, be ready to order off a paper menu which also doubles as their to-go menu. Our selection consisted of * 2 orders of snowy Baked BBQ Pork buns * Pea sprout dumpling w shrimp * Steamed Shrimp dumpling (Har Gow) * Steamed spareribs in black bean sauce * Preserved meat w rice in a claypot * Rice noodle roll w beef cilantro *Bean curd skin rolls (Fu Pei Guen) * Chicken feet w Peking Sauce * Deep fried meat dumpling (Ham Sui Gok) * Deep Fried Taro dumpling (Wu Goo) * Pork and Shrimp dumpling (Sui Mai) The service was fast as each dish came out "piping hot". Based upon the Sui Mai, this is definitely worth trying out for Dim Sum. I forgot to take pictures of the Sui Mai but I did take pictures of the menus and restaurant. Review Update Paragraph: Correction to my original post, I can't do math in my head. It's getting harder to find places in the Bay Area that still do it this way, mostly because restaurants just don't have the space anymore for carts to weave between tightly packed tables. That alone makes this place feel a little special. The food itself tastes fresh, and yes, the hot sauce passes the test. I've had a few unfortunate (and slightly traumatizing) encounters with off-tasting sauces during the pandemic, so now I always do a cautious smell-and-taste check first. They also serve "tofu fa" (tofu pudding) with a sweet ginger syrup, which was a pleasant surprise. It's one of my favorite desserts and not something you see often at dim sum spots these days since it's not in high demand. Definitely brought back some nostalgic, childhood vibes. Just a heads up, this place gets busy quickly. If you can, try to arrive within the first hour after opening. Otherwise, be prepared to wait a bit, it's popular for a reason.

Black bean spareribs are not really my thing, and I don't do chicken feet, but I think the bf liked both. I did enjoy the sweet and sour spareribs, which you don't see as often at dim sum. We organized a large gathering of over 40 people for a business meeting, expecting at least a basic level of accommodation. Last year, this same restaurant had no issue providing WiFi access, which made it a viable option for professional use. This time, they flatly refused to share WiFi, offering no reasonable explanation or alternative. For a business group of that size, this is not a small inconvenience, it completely undermines the ability to coordinate, communicate, and function effectively. We turned some of our party away so the restaurant actually lost business. What makes this worse is the inconsistency. If the service was available before, there is no justification for the abrupt change, especially without any effort to work with a paying group of this scale. It sends a clear message that they are not interested in supporting business clients, regardless of group size or prior relationship. If you are planning any kind of professional gathering or need even minimal flexibility from the restaurant, I would strongly suggest looking elsewhere. This was a frustrating and avoidable experience that reflects poorly on their management and customer service. The food was okay, last year the room was perfectly decorated this year it looked like it was set up for a wedding which was rather odd for a business meeting as well.

The sesame paste noodles are one of my favorite dishes here, there's a balance of sweet and salty offered in the creamy sesame paste sauce that's so addicting. I've always been a big fan of the hand-pulled noodles which are thick, bouncy and chewy. The Shan Dong chicken is deep fried and coated in a delicious sauce. It is more of the sweeter side if you're looking for something that's spicy. I appreciate that we were given large pieces as well! The fried rice with shrimp is amazing - I love the crunch of the green onion, the softness of the fried egg, and the texture of the rice and veggies which weren't soggy and still held a nice bite. Last but not least, the hot spicy eggplant was a great choice because it's usually the trickier dish to cook as eggplant can turn really soft and mushy. I was delighted that with the way it was prepared, the large eggplant pieces still held a tender texture that did not fall apart. I also enjoyed the sauce that was paired with the eggplant, which is oyster-sauce based and added a pleasant sweetness as well. No spicy condiments on the table unfortunately. The duck was decent, but the bbq pork was a bit too lean for me. It wasn't overly sweet though so that was nice. The roast pork wasn't crunchy at all!! For some reason, they thin sliced it, instead of cut it into cubes. I love roast pork for the crunch so this was disappointing. The skin was more chewy than crunchy. All of the meats were tender though! 5. Fresh shrimp rice roll was hot and steamy and the price is cheaper than some dim sum spots ($7.50 for this one i think). However, you also get less shrimp. The sauce poured on was also kinda thin, and not sweet or umami enough. The rice roll itself had a good chew though, silky but a little thick. It holds up well while eating. The proportion go shrimp to rice noodle is waaaay off though. 6. Wonton noodle soup was good! This seemed like the crowd favorite as most everyone ordered this. The noodle could have had a bit more chew to it, but the wontons were bouncy and the broth comforting. You get a couple pieces of chinese broccoli with this too which is nice. The service was efficient and our main server was nice. She spoke english and actually smiled back. They take card payment too, so that's convenient. You really get some bang for your buck here, but I'd probably stick to taking food to go.
