They have good food here, we came on a sunday night and it was pretty busy. The staff is friendly and the prices are very fair for what they serve. The food wasn't greasy which was a huge plus. My father and I came in for lunch. It was our first time and we love Dumplings. We had the chicken dumplings, bbq pork buns, spring rolls and Beijing meat sauce over spaghetti. The chicken dumplings were pure perfection. The pork buns had great flavor and were light and fluffy. The only negative for the pod, buns was that we wish it had more filling. We tried this restaurant for the first time last week and were astonished at how little there is to say that is positive. The portions were very small for the price, there was very little flavor in many of the dishes and The dumplings were bland and rather doughy. The only dish that was pretty good was the brussels sprouts but there were only 8-10 extremely small brussels sprouts in a very small container that was half full for $12. If this the best dumplings you've had, then I'd recommend you go to the local Asian grocery store and buy some frozen dumplings because that's what you're eating. Then entire time I was there I saw the staff opening bags of frozen dumplings to steam. Even the steamed buns were frozen. So let's be honest what type of food you're getting. It's not authentic and at least for most of the menu, it's frozen dumplings and buns. I understand restaurants will sell items that were frozen and pre-made but you'd think that your claim to fame and the item that your restaurant is named after is made from scratch, not purchased from Restaurant Depot. My husband got the the 3 day pork ramen. The broth was a little bland but he said the ramen noodle was good. I got the fried bun with condensed milk. It was probably frozen but it was good as the condensed milk gave it a good taste. The spicy tofu was ok but it's hard to mess up tofu and rice. The bubble tea is from a powder which to be fair, is from powder at most bubble tea places. The staff is friendly and I wanted to like this place. Overhyped and distasteful literally. The dumplings are more of the heavy dough kind. When you get dumplings with thicker dough you should expect 2 things: a very fluffy air space between the filling and the dough as well as the juices from the filling, especially if it is a meat flavored dumpling. I went here with my boyfriend and we got the panseared chicken and cabbage dumplings. This was an utter abomination to me. These were not tasteful but left a weird taste on my mouth. The 3 day pork ramen was nothing special. 3 days is far longer than 10 hours but you can tell the broth was using pork meat instead of pork bone since the color is brown and not milky white. The ramen was okay. The broth was light and the noodles were of good consistency by the pork it self was bland and had a steange odor to it. We had also gotten the five spice tofu baos. Which were supposed to be the braised pork buns. They placed the order in incorrectly but repeated the item that we requested. Which came out okay. Nothing special. Bland and flavorless. Everything aside from the cucumber being the only uncooked component was mushy. Lastly we got the glass noodles with cilantro and beef. This wasn't your traditional noodle salad. It came with clear rice noodles instead of typical sweet potato noodles. Theres a bit of spice but theres no flavor in there aside from vinegar. Thats the only place i could taste. And bubble tea, lychee and honey dew, were fails since they had a weird sour milk taste to it. not coming back. I have been going to this place since it opened in Weston Center. The food was great back then. The dumplings were made by the staff at that time. Went there yesterday for takeout. I ordered the pork, chicken dumplings, the baby bok choy, the Chau sho bao and the scallion lo mein. I was disappointed by the quality. They must have changed methods of the dumpling. Skin was too thick. The filling inn the buns was tasteless. The red bean filled buns is not authentic. Everything except the baby bok choy and the lo mein tasted like it came from a factory frozen and steamed. The only thing that was alright was the lo mein... sad to see that the quality of the food has gone done and not true to when they first opened... disappointed. read more

Less than 1star. This was the worst experience I have had dining possibly ever. After giving us half our order and then waiting another 20 minutes, they messed up everything else. They gave us incorrect things and after they talked to us to apologize, they brought out my meal which was wrong. I'm a vegetarian and they gave me meat, which I discovered after taking a bite. When a new Asian dumpling house opened up in Weston Center, I was curious but not optimistic. To make matters worse, there were a couple of disappointing reviews of the place on Yelp making me more doubtful. Still, my curiosity and the convenience of living within 5 minutes of DD ultimately won out. Thank goodness. It's a keeper. First things first: IGNORE the bad reviews. As an ethical matter, in my opinion, the poor reviews of Dumpling Daughter are either written by biased competitors or by neophytes who think authentic Asian food comes from Wegman's. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ready to rank the food up there with Momofuku either, but we're talking Weston, MA, not the Lower East Side of Manhattan, and we're talking comfortable, casual and quick, not two-hour waiting for bench seating with strangers. If you gave this place less than 3-stars, you need a serious dope slap from Anthony Bourdain or the like. After careful consideration, I awarded this place 4 stars though I considered giving it 5 stars knowing that it's not trying to be high-end gourmet. It's a close call, but either way, you'd be foolish not to come here if you're anywhere in range. The Food: I've had both types of pork dumplings and they were great. Not unique and unlike anything else on the planet, but as good as a dumpling gets. If you love dumplings, don't hesitate. I've also had the Taiwanese buns with pork belly. These were excellent and only a smidgen less perfect than Momofuku's in NY and perhaps that's only because it was 11pm by the time I ate at Momofuku's and I was starving and buzzed from the wine bar next door. The noodle bowls at DD are terrific too. I've had the Dan Dan Mien twice and while some like me may want to kick it up a bit more, the noodles are better than most I've had locally and the flavor is big but not overwhelming - just right. My daughter had the 3-day pork ramen and gave it an enthusiastic "yum!" The Service: Both staff and management were prompt, courteous, and knew the menu. The recommendations were spot on. Miscellaneous: DD is not a formal place - it's casual, but note that the food is still made to order. Place your order in advance or be prepared to wait a few short minutes while it's cooked for you. It was only a 3 or 4 mile drive to get there and we managed to easily find, right off the main street, in that small strip mall. We walked in and found ourselves entering a cute little establishment. It was pretty busy in there and we quickly made up our minds and ordered away. I got myself a bowl of their pork ramen and some chicken buns to split as well. She got one of their specials and we paid and sat at their ringside seats near the book, which overlook the kitchen. The chicken Taiwanese buns ($8) were amazing. Juicy, tender and full of flavor, I devoured mine and was left wanting more. Dozens more. Kudos to them for that, it was the highlight of our visit there. My wife's special was pretty good, however my three-day pork ramen ($12) fell completely flat. Their pork ramen was actually one of the reasons for my visit there. I'm a huge ramen fan as most of my friends are well aware of and always try to scour any place that offers it. However in this particular case, the broth lacked depth, it had too much five spice and ginger and fell completely flat. It didn't taste remotely like most tonkatsu broths I've had and the perfectly cooked egg and the noodles were the only redeeming factors. Overall this place is cute, has great potential and attentive service. The staff was friendly and the decor cute. Food was mostly a hit, with a few misses. The prices are a bit higher than we would have liked but I'd definitely return in the future, especially since they have a ton of ever-changing specials and a pretty good amount of dishes that they offer. The dumplings were doughy and underwhelming, and its only saving grace was the spicy sauce it was bathed in. The buns were a minor upgrade of the buns sold in most Asian supermarkets in the frozen aisles. The highlight of the meal was the 3 day pork belly ramen ($12), but that's not saying much because honestly, you can put pork belly on cat food and I'd still call it delicious for the mere fact that it's pork belly. For everyone out there who's raving about this place, I think it's definitely overhyped. It's not worth the drive or the money, but if I lived nearby, I would probably drop in once in a while for a snack, not a meal. A noodle bar / dumpling house in Weston? My immediate reaction was doubting the authenticity of the food. I waited a few months after it first opened to work out all the logistics and operational kinks. Then on a sunny afternoon I stepped into this small but tastefully decorated restaurant. It was towards the end of lunch and nearly all the tables were occupied, all 10 of them which isn't many. I ordered the Three-day Pork Ramen, some pan-seared dumplings, and braised pork belly buns. Much to my surprise, they were all pretty on point. The pork belly used in the ramen appears to be the same cut as the pork belly buns, which is juicy and tender. Since then, I had came back a few more times, introducing it to many friends. What amazes me is the consistency of the quality of their food. The hard-boiled egg in the ramen is cooked to perfection with the yoke just watery enough, and it is exactly the same every time I'm here. I believe perfecting something once is easy, but delivering it consistently is hard. So they earn high marks on that. I also appreciate the cafe-style where the food is ordered and paid at the counter and brought to your table when it's ready. It is so much more efficient and saves a lot of time. I've tried many items on the menu and I don't have a complaint about any of them. Little Chicken Dumplings in Szechuan sauce are amazing. Beef steamed buns. I was excited by all the hype about this place, from friends who raved about it and all the media publicity. However, as another Yelper has stated, I found the food to be "bland and boring." Nothing about the flavors popped as someone else mentioned. I ordered the 3 day pork ramen, the pan seared pork and napa dumplings, and a traditional milk boba tea. The pork belly itself was very savory. Sadly, the broth for the ramen was tasteless to me. Even I can make a more flavorful broth. I was in disbelief when I was eating it, especially after all the rave reviews. Also, the noodles also became soggy before I could finish the bowl. The dumplings are the larger kind, reminded me of Peking ravioli or "huo tieh," and were well made in the sense that they were beautifully well-shaped and the dumpling itself didn't fall apart. While they looked incredible, the dumplings again were just lacking flavor to me. I was excited about getting the boba tea but that too tasted a little off. It was less creamier than most that I've had, and the boba were smaller in size. Honestly, nothing compares to Saint Alp's. When I go out to eat, I kind of expect to be impressed or wowed, especially for a $23+ lunch. I'm a decent home cook, and can tell the difference between fresh vs. processed. I can tell the food is fresh food and not processed, but some serious depth of flavor is not present in the food. Love this place. Weston has needed a place like this for as long as I can remember, and I moved here in '86. The place is fun, different and perfect for a quick fix or a full meal. The pork and chive dumplings are fantastic, and the CoCo sandwich was delicious. The meat was marinaded perfectly and it was wrapped in the best scallion pancake I have ever had. The menu from Dumpling Daughter was so enticing -- so full of promise. The menu had all my favorites and I could practically taste most of the dishes in my mind so I had a hard time choosing between all of the dishes that we rarely see in the Americanized restaurants that dot the Western suburbs. Sadly, the taste of the dishes that actually arrived fell well short of what I was expecting. The pork and napa dumplings might be the biggest disappointment. Yelp has a review with a picture of six beautifully browned dumplings -- mine did NOT look like that picture. Three were well browned, two were slightly brown and one was pale white. I like greasy food but three of them were so covered with oil that I blotted them with napkins before eating them. The filling was moist but lacked flavor and one was sufficiently undercooked inside that I wouldn't eat it. The chicken dumplings in Sichuan sauce also failed to impress. The sauce had big chunks of fresh garlic and it generally had the flavor I was expecting from the dish but had almost no peppery spice to it at all. The chicken filling was crumbly and dry and generally not appealing. Overall the dish was more of a reminder of dishes I will travel to eat elsewhere as opposed to something I want to eat. For those of us stuck in Metro West, Sichuan Gourmet in Framingham does a credible version of this dish. The filling in the roast pork buns had no flavor. The Dan Dan Mien came the closest to the dish I was expecting. It had sesame; it had spice; and most importantly, it had the pickled vegetable that is so often lacking when the dish is made at Americanized places. However, I still would have liked a bit more heat and in the end, these noodles were just OK. I am disappointed to say that the thing Dumpling Daughter does best is to remind me of food that I love but that can be gotten better elsewhere, albeit with a little more travel time. read more

I brought my dad here during the lunching hour and I was happy to see a bustling joint - the tables were filled and people were waiting in line. When it was our turn to order, I was pleasantly surprised to see Nadia - the owner - at the register, and asked her for her recommendations. My dad and I split the following: * Dumplings - pan seared pork and napa cabbage * Taiwanese buns - braised pork belly * Grandma's Beijing meat sauce over spaghetti All three dishes were delicious though our favorite was the braised pork belly Taiwanese buns - the pork belly was incredibly tender with just the right amount of sauce and ratio of ingredients. The dumplings were good and fried perfectly though note the dough is on the thick side. And the spaghetti we devoured too - we weren't sure of the meat type used - pork? - and it is carb/noodle heavy with not that many vegetables. We also ordered a braised beef Beijing noodle soup for one of my siblings so can't comment on that but I sampled the broth and it has a lovely kick! Note since it was for take out, they gave us two containers - one containing the broth and the other with the noodles and toppings. This is a casual joint. You order at the cash register and if you're dining in you will get a number where the team will bring you your food at the table of your choice. Nadia was incredibly sweet and checked in with customers to see how the food was - kids even came up to her to tell her they loved her food which imo is one of the best ways to give compliments! If there is no parking available in front of Dumpling Daughter there is parking in the back of the grocery store. Brought the family here on a cold Sunday looking for a nice relaxed "brunch"- we'd heard good things and were excited to get some soup and dumplings! Everyone in the store was so nice and the owner Nadia and her husband were very helpful in helping us order. There is no waiter service, you grab a table and order at the counter. The restaurant is pretty swanky and reminds me more of someplace in the South End than suburbia. We ordered almost half the menu! Make sure to ask for any specials because we didn't see them until we went up to the counter. Highlights: any of the dumplings, the wonton soup and the scallion pancake. It's reasonably priced, but perhaps not if you're used to cheap takeout. This is freshly prepared food with good quality ingredients- it's not cheap. If I had any criticisms, it would be that the menu needs more non-carb items. Maybe it's what we ordered. The Boston suburbs are finally starting to wake up with food choices! Ming Tsai from Wellesley's Blue Ginger was a trailblazer. But Dumpling Daughter, as the name implies, is the next generation. Can't wait to go back and order the other half of the menu. read more

I grew up with Nadia Liu. Her parents introduced me to what real Chinese food was from a very young age. When I heard that she was opening a restaurant that featured much of the cuisine that she enjoyed growing up, I was beyond excited. It took me many months to get around to finally eating there, but tonight, I finally did. Did I love it? I did. I spend a lot of time trying to find East Asian restaurants that I like... and finally one opens up in my home town. I'll warn you: If you're looking for gloppy neon colored sickly sweet sauces coating broccoli and greasy doughy fried chicken, this place is not for you. If you're looking for a fusion of traditional Chinese influenced Asian dishes, make sure you come here. A lot. I started off with the steamed pork and chive dumpling. They were great. They were incredibly fresh, simple, and well executed. Dumplings are always a subtly flavored affair, but the beauty is in how the cook can let the flavors of the meat and vegetable shine through. For my main course, I ordered the three day pork ramen. You should too. That pork belly will haunt my dreams. It's Nadia's take on red cooked pork. The pork flavor is incredible, with the subtle flavors of five spice and soy supporting that amazing porky goodness that you get from a good piece of pork belly with the fat intact. The tea eggs are cooked perfectly with a custardy yolk that is enhanced by the not too overpowering yet wonderfully flavorful broth. The flavors married perfectly. We had "takeout" as our first experience eating food from this restaurant. The Chicken Ramen was absolutely delicious ! The broth , chicken and vegetables were still hot, very fresh and was a hardy, yet light meal in itself. Been here a few times and want to love this place, but a few things need addressing. Came in at 3pm on a Wednesday and only one table was occupied. The woman who took my order seemed preoccupied and somewhat annoyed that there was a customer here. Not friendly at all. Went to sit down, and although all the tables had been cleared of dirty dishes, none had been wiped clean. So I grabbed a paper napkin and while I was wiping it down, another woman appeared with my drink and a plate. No offer to get a rag and help me. Strange. Food is good. I just wish the skins were thinner, and that I could actually taste the cabbage. There was also a giant oil slick on these and left bobs of oil when I dunked it in the soy sauce. They have a tiny sauce area with sriracha, soy sauce, vinegar, and ginger sauce (soy sauce with ginger). I was expecting match sticks of ginger in the ginger sauce, but no luck! I also wished they had like chopped scallions here so that you can "make your own sauce". I really appreciate what they're trying to do here, it's unexpected for a place like Weston. I've had dumplings/buns in Asia, NYC, and LA and these are easily the best, at least per my personal tastes. Everything here is good, from the Dan Dan, to the sauteed string beans, to the BBQ pork buns. These guys know their flavors, and seasoning on all the buns/dumplings are spot on. Even the ramen is incredible. For the buns in particular, you can taste the quality of the rice flour. This place was so interesting! It's like Chipotle meets dumplings. Fresh, tasty, and filling, I think I'll come back here often. The staff were very friendly and the owner was so sweet. She made sure we understood the menu, answered any questions we had and checked in on us as we dined. We came for lunch in the middle of the week and was surprised to see that it was PACKED. They handled the crowd very well and barely waited 5 minutes for our food. Very cool place. Will be back again soon! read more
