I've been here about three times since I go to school right down the street, and it's pretty good. Somewhere between 3 and 4 stars, but closer to 4 stars.
The first time with my mom, we got the Sally Ling's cucumber salad, pan-seared pork and napa cabbage dumplings, LUXE lump crab meat crab rangoons, fried rice, and golden fried buns with condensed milk. You order at the counter, and they give you a number to put on your table. You place the number on your table, and they bring the food to you! We sat next to a family that came all the way from Quincy (about a 30-40 minute drive) to try this place. The Sally Ling's cucumber salad was yummy, we killed it ($5). The pan-seared pork and napa cabbage dumplings are my favorite, I've gotten them every time I've gone ($6 for an order of 6). The LUXE lump crab meat crab rangoons was average, it felt like something I could get at any other Chinese food restaurant (I also felt like it was pretty pricey, $8 for 5). The fried rice was mediocre, something I could've made at home... and I'm pretty sure there were raisins in the fried rice?? ($9 for a descent amount of fried rice). I think the golden fried buns with condense milk was my favorite part of the meal, I find myself craving it randomly throughout the day sometimes. It's like if all things magical melted into your mouth, and you get 3 pieces for the $4. I also got an Organic chicken katsu rice bowl for take out, and it was average.
The second time I went, I got the pan-seared pork and napa cabbage dumpling (again!!) and the braised pork belly taiwanese bun ($8 for two pieces). I did not really like it, and regretted my decision. The braised pork belly was too salty for my liking. My friend got the shrimp dumplings, and it reminded me of the haiku you get a dimsum, but it did not taste fresh ($6 for 6). She also commented on the fact that her three day pork ramen broth was too salty, and she did not like it ($12).
The most recent time I went, I was visiting a high school friend that works there. My roommate and I ordered the Sally Ling's cucumber salad (I was hyping it up to her), the soup dumplings ($12 for 6), shrimp fried rice, pan-seared pork and napa cabbage dumplings, and the organic chicken cutlet taiwanese buns. The cucumber salad was way to oily, and I could barely feel my mouth from the burning sensation of the sesame peppercorn oil. I did not want it to go to waste though, so I finished it. The soup dumplings were pretty good, but I've only had soup dumplings like once before at something random Chinese restaurant on rt.9 so my opinion might be irrelevant here. The shrimp fried rice was mediocre, and WAY too overpriced ($16 a plate). Our friend recommended the taiwanese bun, and I'm so glad he did. It was my favorite, the chicken cutlet was so tasty. It was a pretty pleasant experience.
In conclusion, this place is pretty good if you know what to order I'd say. I come here when I don't wanna go all into Boston or down route 9 to grab some asian food (even though it's beyond americanized). Also it is a little pricey, which I'm not shocked since it is located in Weston. It's just not college student friendly, which is why I treat myself once in a while. I wished it didn't close at eight either, cause when I'm craving dumplings late at night this would be quite convenient. read more
