Further, most places stack their contracts against you, making it a hassle to terminate your agreement once the need for storage ends. In short, it's almost impossible to go through a storage term without some degree of inconvenience. Deep Ellum Storage, however, sets a new mark in what a storage center should be. It has a convenient downtown location, its design allows you to bring even a large truck directly up to your unit (no need to push carts down hallways or into elevators), and the place is across the street from the police department. But beyond location and design, Deep Ellum Storage's biggest asset is its owner, Ed, who couldn't have been nicer to my wife and me. His prices are fair and flexible, he runs a tight ship, and his business is b.s. free. After a year of storing the contents of my home in one of the units, I went to Ed to close out my contract, expecting that I would have to go get some document notarized and signed in blood in order to be able to exit the agreement in 30-60 days. Ed, however, told me that he had taken care of everything, and that he hoped to see us again soon. Who else in his business does that? I couldn't have asked for a better storage experience, and highly recommend Deep Ellum Storage.

Moving from Dallas to California, we needed a storage unit and chose Public Storage near our home…read more The starting rate was $99.00 per month, which seemed reasonable at the time. However, over the course of a year and a half, the monthly cost increased to more than $220.00. We called multiple times asking if the rate could be reduced. Each time, we were told that they had already lowered it twice and there was nothing more they could do. I also tried contacting the corporate office, but the representative I spoke with appeared to be working remotely and communication was difficult. According to the representative, notices about the rate increases were mailed to us. Unfortunately, we had moved and forgot to update our mailing address, so we never received those letters. Why not email us or send a text!!! That said, we didn't need a letter to notice the increases--we saw the higher charges every month on our Chase bank statement. Because of these constant price increases, we have decided to move to another storage facility. Unfortunately, the cost of relocating our belongings will now exceed $1,000, making the situation even more frustrating. Based on our experience, I would strongly caution others to carefully review the terms and potential rate increases before choosing Public Storage.

The building has a terrible rat infestation that started about 3 months ago. I've called the…read morecorporate customer service number about it multiple times and nothing has been done. Back in September, I saw two rats in the stairwell. They've now made their way into the units. Today, one ran on the piping over my head, stopped, looked at me, and ran into the unit next door. There are now rat feces and rat urine in my unit and all the way down the hallway, which leads me to assume that they're in all of the units. For as much money as we pay, you'd think they would get a professional exterminator to come onsite and handle the issue. Oh and there's an extremely strong smell of urine coming out of unit 2113, which has been there for the last few months. I'm 99% sure a homeless person was living in there while it was in between tenants. I first noticed that there was a huge wet area outside of the unit and the smell was coming from it. I went back a few weeks later and the wet area had dried up and the smell was even stronger. I made a formal complaint online in December and wet area is still dried up outside of the unit and has a strong urine smell (see pics). Lastly, let me say that I've been a tenant of this facility for over a year. I've had zero problems until the last few months (minus the homeless people blocking the entryways before the office opens in the mornings). I'm not sure if they're under new management or if they stopped caring, but this is truly unacceptable.
