Like having dinner with your favorite Irish cousins who happen to be great cooks and just all around good people. I love the family run aspect and you get to meet and talk with all of them. The food is exceptional and portions are large. We had enough for a second meal. We celebrated our anniversary and someone at the restaurant, patron or staff, we don't know, gifted us our meal. Dueling Spoons Absolutely phenomenal we ordered the French onion soup and it was so delicious and unique. The onions were sweet and crisp with just the amount of softness. The broth was flavorful and had such a wonderful rich flavor with the cheese and croutons. Wonderful drink selections and oh my the most delicious steak that I've ever had. Filet mignon with shrimp bleu cheese scampi sauce. Perfectly cooked medium rare bursting with flavor and accompanied with the most delicious homemade mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies cooked to perfection with fresh garlic. Then the in house bread with butter made daily so rustic , flavorful and hearty perfect alone or also great for dipping. The ambiance was beautiful and Chef Billy and his family personally made you feel at home! There was no rush with the tab or leave time. Also did I mention that the final cost was so mouth dropping for the quality of food and expertise experienced first hand in this restaurant. We thought it would have been more but were happy with the final price. Definitely a must to go on a date night and any event but so many dishes I cannot wait to return and try!!! We had an absolutely amazing dining experience, where we were treated like family! It was a real treat to get to pick out our steak, & approve our Lobster tale before our cuisine was prepared. Our favorite part was when we got to ring the bell for selecting one of Chef Billy's personal favorites, which we quickly found out is on high demand & we can understand why, & our Anniversary Card that the Family all signed for us was incredibly thoughtful! Oh my stars!! What a fabulous birthday brunch my family and I had yesterday January 15th with you all. Thank you TEAM CHEF BILLY, Kathleen and family. I knew it was going to be a great experience! But WOW! It went overboard and I loved every second. It was such a lovely, engaging.. super fun experience. It was so cool to just be a part of the vibe. The food was magic and presentation just gorgeous. The goat cheese frittata was velvety magic in my mouth. I like when I vcan taste a lot of flavor layers and it was perfect. Jason's walnut and toffee French toast.. I have no words.. SO good! My dad wouldn't share a bite of his eggs benidict. (That's not like him either. ) The best part of the day was when they all came out with a beautiful poached pear sitting in this creamy sweet sauce with raspberries and the most crispy puffed pastry. First, the building is quaint but beautiful and welcoming. The staff (this is a family owned and operated restaurant) are informative, friendly, humorous, and exceptionally attentive. Chef Billy and his family make you feel like you're the most important person in the place but lets talk about the food... The FOOD!! We started with crab cakes in a mustard sauce (which came when I was in the restroom and William failed to take a picture of before starting.... The best, most delicious crab cake I've ever had... I could have just had several orders of those for dinner.... Then, the mains... Bill had the filet with shrimp in a blue cheese sauce. The filet was perfectly cooked, tender (like butter knife cuttable tender) and seasoned perfectly. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and then the sauce... you could put that sauce on a flip flop and I'm sure we would at least try to eat it.... Prime Rib... It's my Friday night standard and this was perfection. Juicy, tender, seasoned perfectly and melt in your mouth. Mashed potatoes in that amazing demi glaze was like nothing I've ever tasted and the carmelized onions... I can't even describe how sweet and amazing they were. The perfect combination. The panna cotta was rich and flavorful and delightfully savory instead of overly sweet... it was the perfect ending to our meal. I'm telling ya, don't wait.. . Make your reservations... wait your turn, and then plan on spending the evening being pampered and eating one of the best meals you've ever had.... My wonderful hubby surprised me for my birthday! It was very quiet when we arrived and pretty empty. As the evening went on it filled up quickly. Dueling Spoons staff and Chef Billy went above and beyond tonight and it was an amazing experience. The surf and turf for two was top notch! My wife and I took the quick 20 minute drive out to this restaurant many are talking about here in Eugene. The "BEST" lucy I have had in many years. We felt we were in France for an hour+. Chef Billy and his wife Katherine were the ultimate oh hosts. Chedf Billy made us his version of French Onion Soup that he developed in Paris. OMG....to die for. We had high expectations of this venue. I had heard wonderful things, just to be disappointed. I scheduled reservations way in advance so that I could take my husband there to celebrate his 65th birthday. They say that parking is limited. It really is, they have like 14-15 tables inside with what we could tell five parking spots. We had to park down the road in a pull/out in hopes of not getting hit while walking to the restaurant. We get inside and was sat down by a pleasant host. After he sat us, we say for 30 minutes and no one approached our table. I finally had to get the hosts attention to get beverages. After sitting at our table for 45 minutes they finally took our order. While waiting for our appetizer and soup, we observed others with their chins in their palms elbows on table, their body language said it all. We left feeling disappointed, we spent $127.00 on food and drink and $23.00 on tip. We did not eat all our food, my husbands prawns were over cooked and like rubber and the sauce was supposed to be a lobster sauce but it tasted more like a red hollandaise sauce, very lemony. My husband and says, "it's all about the experience, we'll we definitely had an experience, one that we will never repeat but always remember. The atmosphere was clean but a bit unorganized. I am sorry that this post is not positive, we are just stating what we had experienced. The two stars was for our waiters personality. He was very friendly and kind. He was the reason that we even scored this restaurant with two stars. (It is pretty bad when you leave wishing you had went to the Texas Steakhouse.) We decided to venture out to Fall Creek because we heard good reviews of this place, we weren't disappointed. The drive is beautiful, the restaurant is homey and inviting, and the staff were polite and attentive. We noticed that Chef Billie visited every table which was welcoming. The food was outstanding. We had a shrimp appetizer that was delicious. My husband had potato and leek soup that was so full of flavor. I had the salmon and it was moist and delicate. My husband had the cod and was very pleased. We shared the poached pear. My husband wasn't too excited with my choice of dessert but he actually said he would order the poached pear again. Nothing special to actually quite horrible. We read the website and their texted warning about slow service before going but were still blown away by how bad it was in this gutted, non-decorated old mini-mart with virtually no parking. Despite having reservations, we waited for one hour before being seated at our table with a view of old, empty beer coolers. We were allowed to read the menu while waiting but received no snack/appetizer service at the bar. As the last table served for the evening, once ordered our food did come relatively soon but each dish was more disappointing than the last. A cold brick described as soda bread was served with our drinks. We ordered two appetizers. The mussels came overcooked and chewy soaking in day-glow yellow chicken bouillon with a butter slick; obviously not homemade and tasted nothing of the curry listed in the description. As a big fan of mussels, this was the first time in my life that I was unable/willing to devour every mussel served and left half uneaten. The wild mushrooms with puff pastry was better cooked, however, the sauce tasted distinctly like a boxed French onion soup mix with a bitter aftertaste. Our entrees included the Chicken Kathleen that appears on their website to be "Chef" Billy's signature dish. The thin chicken filet was dry and overcooked lacking in flavor and floating in a pool of bland white sauce possibly from a can. This was accompanied by mushy, cold, unseasoned boiled potatoes that collapsed under my fork. The fresh vegetable medley was the most interesting part of the plate but was also served cold. Our second entrée was grilled lamb chops that were so overcooked and chewing they lacked any remaining natural juices. This was served in a "broth" of off-the-shelf tasting beef bouillon, mushy potatoes and vegetables all covered in a thick layer of bitter chopped mint. I have never eaten lamb with such little flavor. Having experienced two hours of disappointments, we passed on ordering dessert. I believe Chef Billy had intended to create a unique, country inn type restaurant. The terrible location with inadequate parking, run-down neighbors and in a barely re-habbed mini-mart falls far from the mark. The service is all together atrocious. The food was not much better than the stale beer nuts that used to be sold by the mini-mart. Chef Billy himself should absolutely abstain from "singing" Happy Birthday to his guests due to his nails on a chalkboard voice. You would do best to avoid this restaurant for the many fine restaurants in Eugene and Springfield. read more

There's terrible parking. The food was simply not good. Inside looks like a gutted old store. I notice that the chef personally attacks people who leave honest reviews, and I honestly can't think of anything more telling. I won't be back, and I'll be telling others to avoid as well. The food was fantastic from beginning to end. We've been there a couple times now and plan to be there as much as our schedules allow. The chef (Billy) makes you feel as though you're in his home for a dinner party. He brought me into the kitchen to show how he'd prepared the lamb that evening. I have had the pleasure of Chef Billy and family making and serving delicious food to myself and my family. What a gem of an experience! The exterior is unassuming and quaint. But inside feels warm and welcoming, the walls a deep mustard color with twinkle lights strung through the ceiling and a stunning diamond ring like chandelier over the front desk. comfortable as jeans and a warm flannel with an engagement ring. I have yet to enjoy brunch and the flight of mimosa, but that is definitely in the future. Each time we have eaten (2 dinners and 1 lunch) we have been greated by the wonderful servers, Kathleen and the rest of the Ried family and always has Chef Billy made the rounds and spoke to us like family friends. I don't think there is another place in the Eugene/Spfld area that parallels Dueling Spoons. From the freshest of ingredients used without friers, freezers, microwaves etc, to the attentive staff that is all family, this restaurant has so much going for it. There is an element of pride but without arrogance you get when Chef Billy comes out and makes the rounds of tables insuring everyone is enjoying their meal. You can tell he absolutely loves serving fine food to appreciative guests at a fair price. We look forward to coming out more often! read more

I never write reviews, but this was such an extreme experience. It demands one. This is probably the most disastrous dining out experience we have ever had. After being seated we waited 20 minutes until I got up to ask someone if they could please attend to our table. Then they came and Asked us if we wanted drinks and only brought half the drinks that were ordered to the table. Another 15 minutes later, we asked them what happened to the other ones. Then they finally came and took our order, although they were out of their advertised special. Another 25 minutes later, we asked what happened to our salads and appetizers. at this point, the owner of the restaurant came out and rudely told us that that's not this kind of restaurant and this is not a factory and he's back there making our dinners and we could just leave. When we said no, we'd like our dinners, he said, just leave I want you to leave. So we did. I can't say I've ever been thrown out of a restaurant before. And it is important to note that all of our inquiries were done in a very polite manner. I can't give this a no star rating because the platform won't let me but believe me it deserves a -5 rating Having read other reviews, we are dumbfounded by the treatment that we received. There was absolutely no reason for the rude and inattentive treatment we received. We were four polite, well, attired, mature adults, looking for what we thought was going to be a delightful experience. It was an experience all right! Invited by our friends, we met up at Dueling Spoons and had a fantastic meal. Among the four of us, we enjoyed the house made crab cakes, the roasted onion, the moist Irish soda bread, salads and 4 entries and a dessert. The roasted vinaigrette in the house salad is out of this world, and the Marsala chicken was so flavorful over the perfect mashed potatoes! While we were there we watched Chef Billy graciously greet each table before cooking their meal and his whole family partaking in hosting everyone in the restaurant. At one point, we watched as Chef Billy handled an ungrateful and whining patron by escorting them to the door. If they were expecting faster food & service maybe they should have skipped the drive to Fall Creek and hit up Olive Garden instead? Then it wouldn't have been as "disastrous" as they have reported here in the only negative review. We will be back to support Chef Billy and Dueling Spoons!
