Its nice being able to choose the flavor of your glaze and topping though. The blueberry and stawberry added some nice variety. The kids may love this but it was way too much for the adults. Finally got to try Duck donuts today! After a disappointing lunch from Cafe Zupas, I thought a sweet treat would be nice. This place is so fun and colorful. I love how they have all these rubber duckies everywhere! It adds such a fun tone to the venue. They also have the pictures of donuts on display which was nice. I'm a visual eater so the pictures really helped me decide on which donut to get. After looking over everything, we decided on the pumpkin chocolate chip. The gal that helped us was nice. I wish she would have engaged with us instead of standing at the register. It made us feel rushed. It was our first time there so she could have told us the popular donuts, her favorite ones or the new seasonal. I'm huge on customer service and this was a flop for me. The donut came out in the cutest box. It was warm. I love the crunchy exterior and soft interior. The pumpkin was very noticeable but not overwhelming. The chocolate chips were nicely scattered all over the donut. They are pretty dense so I only had a couple bites. CLOSING FOR GOOD ON SUNDAY, MARCH 29 at 2:00 p.m. This is a franchise location and the local franchisees put their hearts and souls into this business. I don't know the reason for their decision to close, but I imagine the lousy parking lot set up at this cusp of Meridian's The Village had something to do with it. Plus rents for The Village store fronts is through the roof and rising. And maybe competition from the plethora of other donut places. Then again, Guru donuts just closed their Eagle location. So maybe the donut eating audience is not willing to pay their dough for the higher quality donuts. Then again, Scottie's donuts, the new local darling of the donut set, is scheduled to open soon in Meridian in the space that was formerly The Empanada Club. (There was a business I was sorry to see go but the owners were ready to retire.) So maybe it is just the economics of this location that leads Duck to depart. Hands down the best donut in Meridian, Eagle and Boise area. Each donut is hand prepared per order. The batter is good and it stayed soft even the day after. So guaranteed that the donut you ordered has not been sitting in the shelf because you'll see it come out of the fryer before they make it for you. The batter is not terribly sweet which I imagined will be just as good plain as it is all dressed up with toppings. The beauty of the donut is that it balances the perfect amount of sweetness with whatever toppings you choose. I bought a dozen at $20 which comes out to about $1.66 each donut plus tax. A lot cheaper than Krispy Kreme but miles better. I believe each donut is $2.50 if you buy by itself. The store is clean and the staff I've met are all quite friendly. I've been coming every day since I discovered it. Can't believe I've lived in Eagle and not tried this before. I won't be going back to Mojo's or Krispy Kreme for donuts anymore since this is truly so much better and fresher. The only way to eat donut is the way these guys make it. Their restroom is very clean but they don't have toilet seat liners. I had to use a lot of toilet tissue paper to cover the lid. So I'm hoping the staff I spoke to, will notify the owners that they need to provide toilet seat liners for staff and customers. They are open until 9 pm on Friday and Saturday. They are open everyday so that makes it nice since most places here in Idaho are close on Sunday. I'll definitely come back. read more

I've "heard" of this company before and when I saw it, I thought I'd give it a try. The donuts are smaller in size then the average donut. They are made fresh to order. We ordered three donuts (cookies and cream, strawberry sprinkles, and a chocolate frosted). We also ordered a breakfast sandwich with egg cheese and bacon. The lady asked us if we wanted it on a donut or on bread. We got it on bread. The breakfast sandwich was okay. Nothing too special about it. Its a super cool concept--you place your order with the cashier as usual, but then they made your donut fresh right in front of you. These donuts are DELICIOUS! I never knew how much a warm donut with freshly added toppings would taste so good in my mouth. Oddly, I didn't feel so lethargic after eating it either. Maybe they're using healthier ingredients? However, the employees need to go through a course on customer service and acknowledging customers. Not to mention the need to crank up the energy with a Red Bull or something! Each time I've visited the employees are always standing around looking list, never smile, and don't try at all to engage customers. And when they do they seem bothered. I'd say this is one of the best donut shops I have ever tried. The donuts are made fresh by request. They have a good variety of options, and as an ice cream lover, I appreciate that they also have sundaes and milkshakes. All the flavors of donuts I have tried have all been good. I did not get his name, but he was tall, had a southern accent and was so nice and patient while walking us through the process of ordering. Now on to the actual donuts... I personally am not the biggest fan of cake donuts, but their toppings and sauces are A+. My only actual complaint is that the toppings melt off the donuts pretty quickly since they are served fresh out of the fryers. This isn't a problem if you're eating them right away, but I did notice everything was slipping and sliding around in the box when I got home. So, it's a fun schtick. They serve the doughnuts warm, and decorate them to order right in front of you. The same fast food theatre as Chipotle. But the doughnuts are all exactly the same underlying flavor and texture, therefore, and they have no "chew", they just fall apart in your mouth. I have a dark secret -- I dislike fresh doughnuts. The texture improves over time I feel. You get a nice crust and the crumb dries out a bit and it provides a better bite. I tried these a few hours after purchase and they were still just okay, Maybe just not my thing. It's fun that someone is trying a new experience in doughnuts, and this clearly is a winning formula. The staff were all fantastic and I am sure this is exactly what many people want, but I just didn't love it. Nice, light donuts with just the right texture. It's fun to be able to choose your base donut, your glaze, and toppings, so you can create your ideal donut. They have vegan and gluten-free options so if that matters to you you won't be excluded from a breakfast pastry. When I visited on a weekday morning the line was long but it moved fairly quickly. You also can't fault the servers for people who have a hard time making decisions, which seemed to stall the line. Once I got to the register the women I met were polite and efficient and helpful when I asked questions. I noticed some tables had dirty napkins left on them but it looked like everyone working was busy so I don't think anyone had time to clean up bus people's trash. We should all know to use garbage cans by now. I had a basic donut with a maple glaze an old fashioned donut, just plain. I liked both and thought they were fluffy without being too airy, and weren't too sweet. There was just the right amount of maple glaze and I liked the crispiness of the original donut without any toppings. My only issue with the restaurant is the prices. The donuts are pretty small--maybe 3/4 the size of what you get at the grocery store, but at least twice the cost. Obviousy yo're getting them fresh and paying for more quality, but in this area those prices seem higher than what the community can support. I won't be back except for very special occasions given the cost. A nice treat, though, and a great stop if you'd like a fresh donut. read more

We finally tried Duck Donuts and it was a positive experience. There was a really big selection of donut toppings/flavors and I really like how you can build your own box of different flavors. The donuts were warm and put together once you order so it's not like the usual grab and go type of donut shop. We were not in a hurry so the wait did not seem excessive. The environment was upbeat and the service was helpful and friendly. I also got an iced caramel macchiato which wasn't too sweet and went well with the fresh donuts. Parking was typical for the area - we had no issues but I could imagine having a harder time when that area is busier. This is my 4th time visiting Duck Donuts; the donuts and the service was just as great as the Grand Opening over a year ago. Average price is about $2 per donut which is pretty standard for a specialty flavor. These are FRESH and could melt in your mouth or immediately eaten.
