Very solid coffee spot! Unfortunately it's not in my neighborhood but when I'm able I'll pick up a cup from Alchemist! Space is open and chill. I adore the decor. It's got a darker, celestial vibe. Which makes sense with the nod to alchemy. There are enough cozy nooks to have a private chat or bigger tables for groups. I'm a black coffee type of gal so I can't speak to the fancy coffee drinks. But coffee straight is a nice middle ground between robust and bright. They have a good selection of teas and breakfast fare as well. Service is counter only and you bus your own dishes. I love Alchemist Coffee! They work hard to make everything from scratch, and their flavor combinations can get pretty creative! In other words, it's not your average coffee shop! It also has a very spacious seating area, as they serve sandwiches and such too. Overland is an area I usually don't frequent much of. I was in area today so of course I needed to stop at Alchemist for a caffeinated beverage. I remember this venue being another coffee joint back in the day. I knew this updated venue was going to be stunning like all the other ones in town. Every Alchemist shop is so pretty. It's been years since I have been in this venue. My friend used to work in this strip. We used to grab drinks from the previous coffee shop. Can I tell you now gorgeous this shop is! The wood, the black walls, the simple decor and the rich colored hanging plants, it's all just beautiful! I love the set up of this place. So many tables, chairs and comfy sofas. It's the ultimate chill spot. Whoever decorates each shop does such an amazing job. A nice gentleman behind the counter greeted me. He was really sweet. I ordered my normal drink, a small iced americano with sugar free white chocolate with room for cream. I also snagged a lemon poppy seed muffin to take with me for my Grandma. I got myself settled at a table while my drink was being made. I love how busy it is. People chillin, enjoying their beverages and staying cool. Even though it busy, there was still plenty of seating available. My name was finally called. I went and grabbed my goodies that were sitting next to a well stocked condiment bar. I appreciate that they have the blue packets of sweeter here. Not every coffee shop is this cool and carries the blue packets. I'm not going to lie, I was a little disappointed to see my drink was filled to the brim with no room for cream. I know that it's just a little extra water added to the espresso but it's that much more water that dilutes the espresso. And it's that much of my drink I need to dump out to give my cup room for my half and half. I honestly don't think my drink is that hard to make. After I adjusted my drink with half and half along with a packet of blue sweetner, I hung out for a bit to enjoy my caffeinated beverage. My drink was decent. The balance of everything wasn't there. My espresso shot wasn't very prominent. Of course the cream and white chocolate was very noticeable. I have had amazing iced americanos from other Alchemist shops, unfortunately today is not one of them. I love supporting local coffee joints. It's always neat to come to other Alchemist shops in town that I don't normally frequent. This venue is beautiful like all the others in the valley. The staff is really nice. My drink could have been a little better but it was still good. I know these folks push out great coffee so I know I'll be back if I'm ever in this area again. It was ok but not worth a return trip for me. Coffee was sharp tasting so I could only drink about 1/2 of it. I finally decided it was not worth drinking. The quiche was not very good so I left about 1/2 of that also. The final blow for me was the sun coming in all the windows without any type of shades. Stopped by for a quick coffee after a flight and was pleasantly surprised. I had the brewed tea, while my wife tried the huckleberry latte--both were excellent. I really appreciate that they make their own syrups, and it was a nice touch to see snacks from a local bakery available to enjoy on the side. Yowza! This place was PACKED on a weekend morning. I was looking for a breakfast and coffee spot on the way-ish to the airport and there wasn't too many other good options in the area which is perhaps why it's crazy here. The line was loooooooooong- order at the counter and the food took well over half an hour which just feels long for an order at the counter type of spot. They also need a better system like buzzers or something since someone has to stand near the counter to wait and hear for their order to be called That being said, really appreciated both the amount of coffee/espresso options, good quality coffee and the extensive food menu-- burritos, bowls, breakfast sandwiches/bagels. The breakfast bowls/burritos are super flavorful and filling. I was going to take my bagel sandwich to go but it was also quite good and I finished it on the spot. Lots of seating indoors, though we still had to keep our eyes open for a table to open up. I wish this coffee shop was in Portland. The atmosphere is open and welcoming. The music is is mellow and not loud which makes it perfect for studying or working. The seating arrangement varies from tall tables, to short tables, to couches... That y also makes that space conducive to studying or working. I've been to this spot on a couple of occasions now and have enjoyed the experience. On my first trip here, it was for coffee and breakfast with a friend. On my most recent trip here it was for coffee and lunch and to get a little work done. It's a great spot for both! Most recently I enjoyed their version of a pumpkin spice latte, which is made with pumpkin puree and spices. It was great! I also got their veggie bagel sandwich, which came on a plain, everything, or asiago bagel. I chose the asiago and so enjoyed it. You order at the counter and they call out your beverage. If you're getting food to enjoy in-house, they give you a number to post on your table and bring your food to you. The dining room is large and there's plenty of outlets (not at every table, but providing they aren't packed, you should be able to fine one). You could easily have a business meeting (plenty of room in between tables to have a private conversation) or work away in a quiet corner. The service is friendly and the prices are reasonable. Pros- Friendly counter service, and the line did move quickly. Drinks were perfectly made quickly, with great temperature and a nice balance of flavors. I can definitely speak highly of the avocado toast, which had an ample amount of avocado and full flavor with the tomato and addition of salt and pepper. . Cons- I like to take a peek at online menus before I arrive, and I had decided on a coffee drink that they no longer carried, so I was disappointed. It was still shown on their website. There is no menu board in the restaurant, so you can not decide while you are standing in line, then you will need to make a quick decision when you are at the register. My food was brought out in a reasonable amount of time, but my friend's bagel took so long that I told him to go back and ask, and they had indeed forgotten it. I went to the register to look for salt and pepper near the napkins, but there wasn't any so I had to break in front of a customer to ask the cashier and she told me that I needed to walk around the back of the restaurant to find a shelf with the salt and pepper, myself. Live music was too loud to hold a conversation, and the musician never took a break! During busy times, you will have difficulty finding parking. . Alchemist was such a treat while in Boise area! Such unique flavored lattes such as the Sun Moon Latte with all the goodness in it such as MCT oil and Turmeric amongst other healthy ingredients! Inside out: the parking lot has been packed every visit, but it's easy to get to. The design inside makes the place relaxed, modern, welcoming, and comfortable while being stylish. Summary: Alchemist excels in providing a great location to get away from the house and enjoy some coffee. You just might need to bring your own thermos of coffee and something to eat. While I like Alchemist for the vibe and seating selection, I find their coffee to be a bit lackluster. Their menu is long and full of non-coffee drinks (there's only so much you can do with coffee) which doesn't give me a great indication that they are that serious about coffee. Which is fine, but I think you need to nail your coffee to have the other items for non-coffee drinkers. I don't want to take my friends that are serious about coffee here. The biggest issue to me is their roast profile is too dark. You can get really refined flavors from lighter roasts, but the only thing they seem to roast for is dark. It's fine and there are good flavors there, but Alchemist beans are definitely over-roasted for my palette. This location also is extremely busy so the baristas do not have enough time to care about pulling great espresso shots. They seem to want to contend with a sit-down Dutch Bros and Caffeina. I'm not 100% sure they beat either in that regard. Dutch Bros is generally more convenient even if it is awful coffee, plus they have quite good iced non-coffee drinks. They try to compete with Caffeina in terms of coffee AND aesthetic/vibe which I think Caffeina has them beat out by having better roasted coffee with baristas that can focus more on the main coffee drinks due to their limited selection. In terms of food, it feels like it's quantity over quality. It's quite an extensive selection with a lot of items being good in theory. But every time I've had anything there (Cinnamon roll, one of their burritos, a sandwich), it's dry and tastes a bit stale and a lot of it. I want Alchemist to be better, they roast their own coffee, they have their own kitchens, they have amazing locations, but they need to start figuring out a better roast profile, get or train baristas that can utilize their hardware, and food that keeps & can be quickly prepared. read more
