The Human Bean is such a great spot for quick coffee. Of all the drive through shops in the Boise area I really do gravitate towards the bean, and here's why.... -They have traditional drink offerings, along with new stuff. So many joints like this are constantly changing their core menu and that drives me crazy. I want to know what all my options are -They have sizes up to 32 ounces, go big or go home -They take your order at the window, not a speaker -They have a great app with rewards, sign up! It's awesome -They are always friendly and nice, just enough that you don't feel pressured to make conversation but not overly so, it's a good balance -You get a chocolate covered bean on the top of your lid...it's the little things man

Cold brew with salted caramel and Hazelnut... Don't forget The oatmilk! This crew started my day off RiiiiGHT!

Saige and Cody are peaches!! GREAT way to start my day! I want to FaceTime guess today and they recommend a whole crew oat milk salted caramel and hazelnut! Fantastic Blend! They hooked me up with a next copy on earth card and even gave me a cute little candies espresso beans on top of my coffee! I will most definitely be back!

Java Chip Granita

I ordered the Java chip granita and it was the most disgusting drink ever. It was way over blend and by the time it was delivered to me the drink got separated and taste so gross. It has no Java chips in it cuz they over blend it and the drink wasn't filled all the way up. See the photo. I only had a little sip. It's nasty and waste of $$. Never again.

White chocolate coffee bean

Curiosity finally got the best of me. I see this place quite a bit driving to and from work. I've never really heard anything about it but I've seen the occasional person who thinks this coffee is worth the trouble and drinks from the cup of the human bean. Whenever I judge coffee on taste and flavor and anything I can think of, I always fall back on regular coffee with half and half. I believe in faithful with the little, faithful with the lot. So, I got exactly that and was instantly dissatisfied with the temperature: warm, warm enough to drink. I need my coffee hot and to hot to drink so I can bask in the smell and warm up to it. Coffee foreplay. Taste, I jumped into this within the first minute because the feel of the cup was far from impressive. Watery and coffee tasting enough to tolerate. You know how tea has a mild flavor but is basically water? Well, this was coffee tea. Rather uneventful. Random white chocolate flavored coffee bean is nice on top of my drink. There really isn't much more to that. Other than relaxed cute girls serving coffee who don't need to strike up conversation until the coffee is served. Which I prefer. Don't need to talk to me. I prefer not to be talked to before coffee. I'm polite but please don't ask what I'm up to today. That's why 2 stars. Bam.

Walk up counter on Emerald sorry

This is one of my favorite coffee shops. The staff is super friendly. They are efficient and get the order right. You can use the drive up or access the walk up window depending on your preference. Today we both had iced coffees. The drinks were topped with a candied coffee bean as usual.

The coffee has a stronger flavor than Moxie, but not a burned flavor like Starbucks. 20 oz with 4 shots for under $5.

Since it is good in other ways, I have revisited many times and tried many different drinks just to be certain, or try to find one that is worth drinking. They are all bad, and it is the coffee itself, it tastes like the beans are rancid, or the machine never gets cleaned, or the water is awful. Something beyond just bad technique or a bad brand of beans, they use Caffeina beans and I've been to Caffeina and had the same beans and they weren't bad. I've had several coworkers unprovoked mention that the coffee here is awful also, I really wish they could get it together. (Side note; I was fed up with the coffee so I tried a green tea one day and they *not joking* gave me a bag of tea in a cup of ice water... WITHOUT BREWING IT OR ANYTHING for like 4$. I couldn't believe it, if lacroix made tea this is what it would taste like, water with a whisper of grass flavor. So bad.) Anyway don't go here unless you want a breakfast burrito.

I'm guilty of that but today I decided to drive the extra 100 yards and hit up Coffee Studio instead. My goal lately is to support more local businesses in our area. It was late afternoon when I stopped in and it was busy! There was only one barista working and she was hustling! There were two cars in the drive thru. 2 gals a head of me and and another guest waiting for his beverage. She was killing it! Quite impressive how she handled all the pressure of customers waiting for their drinks. She got everyone smashed out and asked what I would like to drink. I gave her my usual order, a small iced americano with sugar free white chocolate with room for cream. She was still finishing an order from the drive thru but I told her to take her time. I wasn't in a rush. I hung out and looked at all the merch and goodies while my drink was being made. The shop is small and cute. There's big windows which give the small space so much pretty lighting. Love the fresh plants and the simple decor here. I adore that they reuse the syrup bottles as vases for plants, it adds a fun touch to the space. The shop is very welcoming. I also appreciate the outdoor seating. There are strung up lights outside which would be pretty at night. They close at 4 so enjoying the lights would be hard. But I can imagine a brisk fall day, late afternoon when it gets dark early chillin outside with a big mug in hand. Talk about a great setting. I didn't grab the sweet barista's name. She asked me if I wanted to add my own cream or if she can do it for me. I told her to go for it. I should have done it myself cause I could have used a hair more cream. It was on the bitter side but I added a little more half and half when I got home and it was perfect! You can really taste the espresso, it wasn't watered down which was nice! All balanced in espresso, cream and sweetness. This little joint pushes out some bold drinks. And it was nice to see how many people were at this place the same time I was. The barista killed it and made me a great drink. It was great stopping in for my afternoon caffeinated beverage. I look forward to coming back. Especially in the fall when I can sit outside under the lights sipping on my hot coffee.

This location is considerably smaller than the state location, not to mention, hidden away in the center. It still has a homey vibe with leather couches, rustic tables and a beautiful wooden bar top area. There were two employees hustling the best they could with a consistent steady line of customers. With this location being smaller, it does get a little cluttered at the ordering register. Unfortunately, my favorite bagel egg sandwich was not available as they were out of egg patties by 11am. At least the Asiago bagels were available and I bumped it up with herb cream cheese. Also got an iced Mexican mocha. Food and drinks did take a while longer to come out, understandably so. I will say that the Mexican mocha was incredibly well balanced and flavorful...much better than the state location. The bagel was toasted, but the outside was a little burnt. The smear of cream cheese was a lot...so much so, that I had to get a knife and take over half of it off (note to self: easy cream cheese or on the side when ordering). Seating outside was nice but the patio was small. Tough to seat 4 people inside when 2 people take the only 4-seater table to work.

Two enterprising young women are owners of this gem of a popular West Bench neighborhood gathering…read morespot that they created in what was an old dump of a 1950's era strip mall space and funded in part with crowd sourcing. Being curious since they opened this in Fall'ish 2024 and finding myself in the neighborhood, this was a destination stop for my husband and me when we went in about 11:30 on a weekday for coffee and a nosh. Pride of ownership shines in the clean and funky feeling interior and it is clearly popular because it was full, almost every seat, of people that seemed from the neighborhood, including a number of parents with young children. They advertise this as coffee and market, but I honestly didn't notice the market part, in that things for sale didn't jump out at me. That may have been because I was just trying to navigate to a seat in and out in the crowded space. THE MO: Coffee and the limited menu for food is ordered at the counter, carry to your seat and bus your own when finished. Although we were the only people at the counter and there were two people in the kitchen, it took quite some time for someone to come to take the order, although once someone finally saw us, they were pleasant, if not welcoming, in taking the coffee order and then again when my hubby went back to order pastries to go with it. MENU: Coffee, other beverages and a very small option of eats is listed behind the counter and on a paper menu there. Options included soup of the day and Gaston's bakery pastries. There were some breakfast sandwiches by local provider Poppyseed Bakery in the fridge section, we weren't told about them but seeing them when passing by the fridge on a trip to the loo, asked if they could be heated and were told they could be. We chose a couple of pastries ($5.50 each) and were reminded why we seldom buy Gaston's products for being too buttery and one note. The cortado ($4) were good. I noticed a woman at the table across from us who was sipping a beverage and eating what looked like a sandwich she had carried in. I don't know if that is part of allowable stuff or not. The pottery used for all of their coffee service, ours and the mugs at other tables, is great. AMBIANCE: They did an admirable job here of making this light and bright and just funky enough with pride of ownership and loving care in maintenance sparkling through. Seating includes a few level in, not step up, booths along one wall, a sofa and chairs near the front and many standard height tables and chairs (maybe too many when all full as getting to seat is tough) and a play area for kids in the corner. It had far less comfortable 'breathing room' space than I anticipated from photos. But I didn't take interior photos to post because I think it is rude to do that when lots of people are going to be in them who maybe don't want to be. ;-) LOO: There are two and both are uni and sparkling clean with great murals on the wall and good plumbing fixtures. My husband even pointed out the "cool" sink. Both are ADA compliant so kudos to them for that. (Yes, it is law and code but you'd be astounded by how many ignore both.) ACCESSIBILITY: One ADA parking spot right outside the door. (There are too few spots for the parking lot but that is not the coffee shop owners' failure. That is the lot owner's issue.) Level in the door. All on one floor. The tables would probably work for a wheelchair user to roll under. But it would be near impossible, based on my experience yesterday (I have had multiple sclerosis since age 20 and sometimes use a wheelchair) for a wheelchair user to get between tables and chairs for a clear path of travel to get to seating or the loo.

This joint is a lot smaller than the two I have previously been to. It's about half the size of the other two so to me it's more for drive thru business than it is to chill and hang out. Much like the other location off Ustick, there was a colorful wall that added such a fun vibe to the place. There were a couple tables to hang out at. I do appreciate how big the counter is! It's inviting and allows a nice space for you to order your drink. As much as I wanted to grab another delicious pumpkin spice chai, I decided to go with my normal. I snagged a small iced americano with sugar free white chocolate and cream. My daughter grabbed a small iced lime and kiwi fuel energy drink. The sweet gal behind the counter got our orders squared away and got to working on them. We hung out at one of the small tables while our drinks were getting made. It did take a minute cause there were a couple drive thru orders. But our drinks were made in no time and enjoyed them for a bit at the table. My daughter's drink was ready first and of course I had to try it. It was a fun green color. The Kiwi and lime added a clean fruity taste the the fizzy energy drink. Energy drinks aren't my thing but it was tasty. My americano came out shortly after hers. It was the perfect shade of coffee. You can tell there was enough cream to espresso. It wasn't watered down and it had a nice amount of ice. I did add a packet of sweetner cause I just needed it to be a tad sweeter. It was perfect! It was much needed after running around all afternoon. I have been to three different Black Rocks in the last two weeks and they have all been great! This little joint is right next to my husband's work so it will be an easy place to hit up right before I drop off his lunch. I appreciate the convenience of this joint being right off Fairview. I adore the creativity they put into the shelf. The back wall is a stunning painting of a coffee plant. Whoever painted that wall did a fantastic job! My coffee looked dark and rich before I added my half and half. I knew that drink was going to be strong and flavorful! The espresso wasn't watered down at all. I added my half and half and a packet of sweetener. Taking one sip of my drink jolted me. You can taste the bitterness of the coffee. After a full month of coming here regularly, I can confidently say this IS the espresso, with intention. Spoken Coffee works directly with the family who owns and roasts the coffee beans, no middleman. The green beans are roasted by that family. The time from roast to cup is noticeably short -- and it shows in every drink. The freshness is unmistakable. The espresso is clean, smooth, and beautifully balanced, without the bitterness or dullness you get from beans that have been sitting around. Their mocha is exceptional as well -- the chocolate they use is perfectly matched to the roast, enhancing the coffee rather than overpowering it. Easily the best mocha I've had anywhere. The baristas are longtime professionals who clearly know their craft. Shots are dialed in, milk art is consistently beautiful, and they take their time with each drink while still being warm and approachable. The space is comfortable and thoughtfully laid out, with plenty of seating including quieter, more private spots. There's no drive-thru, but parking is easy and plentiful, so it's not an issue.
