This used to be my primary location to purchase Entemanns cakes. Obviously this is many years back, as they really stopped selling cakes over ten years ago. However, this location used to have a huge display almost as soon as you walked through the door. Anywho, they have made many changes to the store since 2005, but the most glaring one is, they only have 1-2 cashiers. They completed abandoned the registers that are in the middle of the store, they don't have employees walking the aisles, and overall, I don't know why they have such a large location if they don't plan on utilizing and/or staffing it appropriately. I usually only come here to buy cold drinks and cashews. The employees, albeit minimal, are pleasant, but make sure to pack some extra time when coming here- it's often a long wait, at the check out line. read more

This is in regards to the pharmacy at DR, although many of these sentiments apply to the store as well. This is NOT a commentary on the employees who work in the pharmacy - they are kind, hard-working, and doing their best to manage stressful and inadequate working conditions. The pharmacy and entire store are sorely understaffed and I dread every trip here. Medications are never processed in a timely fashion or processed when sent by a doctor. Long wait times and unhappy customers are a usual part of the scenery here. Corporate Walgreens needs to do better by their customers and staff and properly staff this pharmacy! read more

This is where I go to pick up my spouse's rx because Rite Aid closed. It's also convenient since my pcp is around the corner. The location is ideal for Bay Ridge. It's near public transit and the area is going to be redeveloped soon to become a major shopping hub. Only problem is whenever I go inside in the summer months, it feels airless. There are several portable air conditioners in the aisles blasting cold air. God help you when you walk away from them though. I actually breakout into a sweat if I walk away from them. Now if the temperature in there was equal in every aisle, I could shop there without passing out. I come in here and try to get in and out as soon as possible. It's a shame because I would love to do some shopping but I have to wait until the cooler months...can this be fixed? I feel sorry for the employees who are stuck in here all day or night. If this is just a temporary problem, I hope it is. Otherwise I will go a bit further away to a Walgreens to do my shopping. It's too bad. read more

Amazon is not putting you out of business - you are putting yourselves out of business! I don't know who is more clueless, the employees or the patrons. This morning there was a clerk and a manager trying to help a woman as she argued over a coupon for 10 minutes +. I finally just put my $75 worth of stuff on the counter, and walked out. I wonder how many other clean, decent human beings (That don't need to argue over coupon like a loser), also just give up and leave. This is why Amazon is going to take over the planet. If I could give this store 0 Stars I would. This inconsiderate lady at pharmacy told a Blind man that he's not blind. He can't see and he repeatedly told staff that he needs help singing n entering his phone number into the machine. They refuse to assist him. This lady simply said to him "you're Not Blind"!! This is pretty much the worst Duane Reade location I've ever been to. No one wants to be there, and the expressions on their face show it. I had a vaccination appointment here. When I showed up (on time!) one pharmacy worker asked me to take a seat. 20 minutes later - nothing. So I asked another worker who found my booking on the system , and she asked me to fill out a few form which I'd already done online data ago. I filled them out again, and gave them back to her - and she said someone would be with my shortly. Apparently, they have a funny idea of what "shortly" means because another 15 mins had gone by after i returned the forms. I went back and told them that I needed to be sonewhere else soon if this was not happening. She told me she would "call her supervisor" right away, who was apparently standing right next to her the whole time and gave zero acknowledgement to my existence. A minute later she walked into the room, gave me the jab and told me to "have a nice day!" I've had several covid shots and boosters before, but this was definitely my worst experience ever. Very unprofessional, and makes it pointless to make an appointment if they won't honor the time (or print out the paperwork you wasted your time filing out ahead of time). I will never come back to this Duane Reade again. The don't deserve my business. Heed this advice wisely and do yourself a favor read more

I made an appointment online for a flu shot. I arrived at the store about 10 mins early. My name was not on their list. I was given paperwork to fill out. The pharmacist is very good and she has been with the company for many years. Unfortunately, they seemed understaffed as the line began to grow. Names were not being called based on arrival time. Getting the shot was quick and easy but be prepared to wait 1-1.5 hours. read more

I've been using this pharmacy for almost 5 years. There's almost always a problem with my prescription, but nothing completely outrageous. For one, my prescription is a controlled substance. So, I go to the doctor a few days before my script runs out and they put in the order. The pharmacy marks it as "delayed" so every time I need to pick up my prescription I need to call them or it will be marked as delayed until I do. However, this particular time I was meet with such cruelty by the LEAD PHARMACIST that I will never go back. My mother had a stroke and wasn't doing well at all. After spending a few days on LI with my family I returned briefly to my apt in Bay Ridge to take care of some things, one being filling my prescription. The date on the bottle said "Use by March 8" and it was March 8th so I called the pharmacy. I was having a really rough morning. When I called the woman told me I can't pick it up until the 10th. I wasn't pushy or demanding, but I was clearly holding back tears when I said "Is there anyway I could pick it up today" and I explained the situation with my mother. Also I heard that you can pick up a controlled substance a few days early at the discretion of the pharmacy. She goes "well, I can't change the law". And I didn't fight her and pretty much go ok thank you. And then from her end I just hear *CLICK*. No goodbye, no I'm sorry to hear about your mother, nothing. She HUNG UP ON ME! Now, of course I know that getting teared up over not being able to fill a prescription isn't exactly an appropriate response. But I'm sure we've all experienced points in our lives where we feel like life keeps handing us lemons and one small inconvenience is enough to make you reach your tipping point. It's ok that I didn't get my prescription filled, but the way this woman treated me is NOT okay. Some human compassion goes a long way. I feel sorry for this pharmacist who is so dead inside that she is unable to spread kindness and joy into peoples life. I'll be taking my business elsewhere. UPDATE: I ended up getting my prescription transferred. They filled it the day of and were so friendly, it was a breath of fresh air. This is first time I made a appointment for 11am with Walgreen pharmacy to get a booster shot and flu shot. Normally I use neibor pharmacy for my prescriptions. Walked in at 10:45 and there was 3 people working behind counter but crazy busy with people waiting. My appointment was at 11.. 11:40 i asked if I should re schedule for some other day and pharmacist made a snide remarks regarding my question. About the same time older lady who was setting there as long as I have been was asking if she has to wait much longer and this pharmacist yelled at her saying she will be called when her turn comes. Why do they bother with appointments if they can't service you and make you wait for more than 1 hour? And why is this pharmacist feel it's okay to let out her frustrations to people who is paying for her services??? Does she not realize there is many many competitors out there... ?? It feels kind of silly to review such a large pharmacy chain like Duane Reade but this location always, always, always delivers. I stopped in today to get passport pictures done and the store was pretty empty. I asked an employee if they were taking passport pictures today and someone was sent right over. Took the picture, printed it out, paid for some other items and was in and out of the store in 10 minutes flat. Talk about fast, seamless service! It's also cleaner and offers more of a selection that other ones I have been to, even NYC locations. read more

Been awhile since returning to this Duane Reade location but they've remodeled since the last time I've been here months ago in order to stay relevant and fresh like their Manhattan stores. Good on them. It's brighter but no less busy because of their proximity to 86th St. I can't say much on customer service but they're constantly stocked up goods on all aisles and the lines appear to have a good flow. Was here doing errands and checking up on the post-vday candy liquidation (two small bins left and spare pickings, as if the candy SWAT knew to rush in and liberate the best ones). This is my second time visiting this store & so lucky for me I bump in to Andy again while I m looking for  my (G.F) Oley daily facials dry clean wipes so there in none in the front display & so Andy told me give him couple minutes so he can check if they had more in the stock room, in my mind wow this guy remebering me as second time visit & getting the stuff for my (G.F) again when she not with him. I really like Andy customer service cause he so detail on helping customers safe  money on getting a big values item and pay less & when thing dont have at the front he willing to make a trip to the back with out hesitating to see if they had in the stock room & by remembering the customer it make me feel more comfortable cause we not just talk about the one item, more like recommendations on other product and he even have more info about healthy protien bar that is another stuff I need to get   for my self. Absolutely the worst! I desperately needed a medication TODAY. It was called in and the app said it was ready. I wait and time comes and goes. I call and it's "just one more person", and I sit on hold for a bit and finally head over. The pharmacy is closed for some unknown reason and the nearest one is on 90th and 3rd. I transfer my rX which will be ready tomorrow. It's not like the elderly and sick DEPEND on this place and can just leap in over there at a moment's notice, right?! No notice on the app or voicemail. They are constantly overworking their staff, their fridge breaks too often, shelves not stocked, lines too long, and pharmacists and assistants have issues with prescriptions or bad attitudes, although I get it, customer service sucks. Still management needs to step up and actually take care of employees and customers if they don't want people leaving in droves. For me and my house, we are officially switching to Capsule for meds, 100%! read more

This place is not actually open 24 hours a day. I was going to the Bank of America next door and as I was waiting, I watched over 15 people walk up, stare inside, bang on the door, and walk away frustrated-- clearly they needed something from the 24 pharmacy, which is advertised via a gigantic sign above the door AND on the actual posted hours on the door. Ordered a photo cube and the quality was horrible! I was horrified when I saw it and definitely knew I couldn't give it as a gift. The cube photos didn't line up to cover the cube. Seems silly to give a drug store a rating, but I felt that the experience I had at this Duane Reade location today was highly unprofessional. The cashier that I encountered was very incompetent and rude. She had overcharged me for one of the items and I didn't notice initially. After finishing my purchase, she called me back to re-examine my entire bag because she did not believe she charged me for everything (which low and behold, she did and MORE) but would not issue a refund. Later that day, I went to my local Walgreens to deal with the refund and they refunded me with no questions asked. My friend and I went in to look at different serums etc for middle aged ladies and the young women that work there was more than helpful, not pushy and the knowledge of the different products plus the history of certain brands was astonishing! I didn't expect that and it was lovely. They even gave us free samples and heads up on sales of more expensive stuff, these ladies are more than helpful and really know their stuff! I really enjoyed shopping here today. I rarely go in and just get something quick and leave but will be going there for make up and age fighting armor ahahahaha. This Duane Reade has been recently upgraded to look like their fancy Manhattan counterparts. They sell Bumble and Bumble products! Although they were sold out of the shampoo I needed, I was still able to pick up a conditioner. Plus, the staff and manager were very helpful. Good to know I don't have to wait for a Sephora shipment or even Amazon Prime to get my hands on my favorite hair treatments. read more

After many years using a Duane Ready card, last week when I was shopping one more time, the DR employee says he wants to exchange my card for a new one and that my points will be into the next one. So today after I shop for a item I found out that there was no point included on my new card and after speak with one of the employee he says there is nothing he could do about it and I should call them later.. I say what??? So if they can't afford to give the points just don't give a customer hard time.. from now on I will go some place else and that is it.
