This is one of my favorite places. The atmosphere is amazing, Lorraine (one of the owners) is wonderful at explaining what's the best drink in the house at the moment...they always support live music and have such a friendly staff...and the pizza...Wowza! The regulars are just the best folks, everyone is included. So if you are new to the area, or If you are looking for a FUN date night ( games are provided in the front room..) This is it! FYI... I live in Albany I drive the 45 minutes...just to go there! Five Stars!!!

Czech Me Out And Pretzel Bites

Checked out this local brewery in Eugene. Drop Bear is one of the many around here. It happens to be one of the newer ones. A lot of variety in the beers. There's also a food menu with a few healthy and plant based options like pizza. Beers are the main thing of course. It's got a pretty okay selection. They have added a few more of these. Pretty good variety to choose from. It's about $7 a pint. Best one we had was the Czech Me Out. This is a Czech pale ale if you couldn't tell. Also there's food. They have added a lot more of this to the menu too. It's about $9 for the Pretzel Bites. These come with beer cheese, but there's also a vegan beer cheese substitute. For the heavier food there's also pizzas, with meaty toppings plus plant based ones including with soy cheese. They also have the typical fried bar food like wings and that kind of stuff. For sure it's a place we could go to again. It's located on Williamette in College Hill. They are closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

We were really excited to try this place after my mom had such a good experience there. The owner came over and chatted after we sat down. It was fairly empty early on a Wednesday night but it slowly started filling in. I ordered the burger, as did my grandma. The burger was just ok. I could tell that they hand made the burger but it was significantly smaller than the bun (they could have flattened it more to fit) and a bit over cooked (barely pink). My grandma's was about the same. We also got wings with BBQ sauce that my daughter mostly ate. They were pretty good and I got vegan ranch with them (since I avoid dairy). My husband got the BBQ chicken pizza. It was fine, nothing amazing and not something he would encourage someone else to order or not. Overall, it felt like everything was just ok. We weren't blown away by anything and we didn't feel like anything was terrible either. I was intrigued by some of their vegan items because I can't have dairy so if I go again, I'll try other items. I'm just not sure I would want to go again.

Drop Bear's extremely refreshing Freo Doctor Australian Pale Ale.

Drop Bear Brewery is as far as I am concerned another one of the best breweries that Eugene has to offer and there are quite a few that meet that criteria here! Steve and I had the wonderful and very refreshing Freo Doctor which is described as an Australian Pale Ale. We often times don't get beer with a Down Under style but on the rare occasions that we do we are always very impressed! Flavor features to look for with this thrilling beer is crispness, clean, lemony, bitter all wrapped up together to make a very well balanced earthiness to it. An excellent and unique beer that those who are looking for something a little less common can go to and enjoy!

The brisket burnt ends were on point--easily the best I've had. The smoked clam chowder was also outstanding, and honestly the best clam chowder I've come across anywhere. We went back the next day, but the burnt ends and chowder are only served on certain days. I ended up getting the fried okra and a brisket sandwich. The okra was cooked perfectly, and the brisket sandwich was so tender it didn't even need a knife. Pro tip: ask for your brisket "extra juicy." The staff was great. Mary brought us their house-made honey mustard, and it was incredible--we ended up dipping both our fries and okra in it. One of the cooks even came out to talk with us, which was a nice touch. Hands down, some of the best brisket I've had. Definitely worth checking out if you're in town.

The place was packed, but thankfully we were seated quite quickly with a 5-10 minute wait. The interior is cozy and welcoming. It's dimly lit with mood lighting on the tables. It felt lively since the tables were packed. We started by ordering the sake and shoyu flights and some fries with wasabi mayo while we explored the rest of their menu. We received the flights quickly. Both flights had 3 flavors and were tasty and fun to try. Each flight comes with a menu describing the flavor profile and how the drinks were made. The flavors of each flight were distinct and matched their descriptions. The fries with wasabi mayo were pretty basic fries. They were well seasoned, had a nice crunch, and the mayo had a subtle wasabi flavor without it being spicy. For our next round we ordered the salmon misoyaki, butternut squash, tofu kushiyaki, and steak kushiyaki. Unfortunately, our server forgot to bring our butternut squash, but we ended up being full with the rest of the food we ordered and just took it off our order. The salmon misoyaki was delicious - perfectly cooked, tender, and well seasoned. The mustard greens on the side added a nice sourness. The tofu kushiyaki was tender and flavorful. The steak kushiyaki was well-seasoned, but more well done than I preferred and a little tough. Next, we ordered the spinach goma ae and umeboshi unigiri. The spinach goma ae was such a pleasant surprise! It's a chilled spinach dish with a tamari/black sesame sauce that was refreshing mid-meal. Really good umami flavor! The umeboshi onigiri had the expected sharp salty/sour flavor that balanced well with the ratio of rice. Ended up dipping the umeboshi onigiri in the goma ae sauce to get every last drop. For dessert we ordered the basque cheesecake and créme brûlée. The cheesecake was just okay. The menu said there was sake and black sesame flavors, but apart from some black sesame dust on the plate we couldn't taste the sake/sesame. The texture was thick and not super smooth. It was a pretty heavy dessert and not very sweet. The créme brûlée was yummy. The custard was smooth and the crunchy caramelized sugar on top was a nice contrast in texture and flavor. The service itself was slow. We were waiting around 15 minutes between orders. Given, it was a busy night. However, we felt a bit forgotten as our server did forget to bring one of our dishes, we had to ask for our dessert menus twice, and we were accidentally served two basque cheesecakes instead of our order of cheesecake and créme brûlée. The staff were friendly, and quickly brought out the correct desserts at the end. I'd recommend ordering more dishes at once so you can enjoy more food in between orders. Would definitely come back again to try the rest of their menu. We wanted to try the Japanese sweet potato but they had sold out that night. The oysters, sashimi, and udon also looked quite good!

Of course, had my Yelp app handy and it found Bar Purlieu for me. I got there right at 4pm when they opened since it was a Friday night, 4th of July weekend so did not know if I was going to get a big crowd since I had no reservations. I ordered the following: House Chianti (excellent)!! regret that I did not take a picture of the bottle ($14) Bone Marrow Appetizer: melt in your mouth delicious ($19) Filet Mignon: delicious, it had a morel mushroom sauce and it was absolutely divine. I got it medium rare and it was perfect ($50) 6 Oyster's: very meaty and you need to ask for fresh horseradish and tabasco sauce. They only have 1 small bottle of tabasco sauce for the whole restaurant and they serve raw oysters... what??? that is insane!!! ($4.50 PER OYSTER-that is insane too but they were nice an meaty). I will definitely be back!!!! Will bring my own Costco size Tabasco sauce
