Our server was incredibly friendly and professional, we never really waited for anything throughout our meal, and even after needing more time to pick out drinks they seemed to come back at exactly the right moment to take the order. The food was fantastic. Their menu isn't huge, but there's some good variety. We shared the Baby Bok Choy salad-ish dish, and I can't describe how good it is--the description in the menu is right about flavors, and they come together perfectly. We also tried a mussel-based cassoulet, which was very good. For entree, we shared the pork chop--best pork chop I've ever had, and something I recommend trying, even if you don't normally that kind of item. If you're in for a splurge, this is a hidden gem. Located in Alki, it is right across the street from Alki Beach, so if your dinner is timed well, you could either watch the sunset in one of the tables or walk along the beach during sunset! Makes a perfect romantic dinner. I made reservations for 5:30pm just in case but showed up early, around opening. We thought the restaurant was still closed but the wind was the culprit to make the door hard to open haha. We were willing to splurge as this restaurant now adopts InKind and that app has referral bonuses to make this meal almost free for us. We got the following to share, which is a satisfactory amount for 2 people: - House pull-apart rolls: the bread was okay but I loved the seasoning and the honey butter. Getting the half order for $6 was the move for the variety. - Washington Coast rockfish crudo: the fish was fresh and I liked the summery ingredients (strawberry, radish, etc) - Makah Nation black cod: the fish is very tender and the preparation makes it a bit sweet. The potatoes and the black garlic paste made the dish hearty and very Asian fusion. It's kind of expected at this point that people like to make the black cod of Asian fusion, so this was not any different. - Butcher's Cut pork chop: I love this pork chop! It is so tender from the 5 hour brining + medium rare preparation, with the peaches in between to add some sweetness. The fried polenta was delicious and has corn inside, and there is also some chorizo and corn-pepper combo on the side to further enhance the dish. This is great value despite the price tag as there is so much involved in this dish - This does not taste like watermelon! ;) cocktail: they do have watermelon but the cocktail uses other craft ingredients to make the drink more peppery Service is good as water refills were constant, the server checked up on us periodically, and the server even switched plates and utensils and clean the table in between each course (not just only before dessert). For almost $100/person, this meal is definitely a splurge. Driftwood is easily one of my top restaurants in Seattle. Their food and drink programs are outstanding. Everything is locally sourced and thoughtfully tied to the region. They consistently craft strong seasonal menus with a level of focus and detail that keeps someone like me coming back. I love having a few reliable staples, but the fact that their menu rotates while maintaining such top quality is truly impressive. If I could live in this restaurant, I would. The view of Alki and the water-inspired aesthetic tie perfectly into the restaurant's name and atmosphere, it feels serene, elevated, and effortless all at once. Service is always excellent. My partner and I usually sit at the counter so we can chat with the bartender, who not only makes incredible in-house cocktails, but always has great recommendations for what's best that night. We also love watching the open kitchen, the chef and his team move with such precision and rhythm, it's like watching an art form. A fun bonus: the chef is often at the West Seattle Farmers Market sourcing ingredients, which says a lot about their commitment to local food. They do have a bar and some seats by the window overlooking Alki that are walk up if you don't have any. Food was absolutely on point. My friend was a little concerned because they only had 3 mains listed on the menu. However, there were plenty of appetizers and smaller dishes that gave us lots of options. We ordered the bread, oysters, and a couple of the produce items. Everything was delish you literally can't go wrong with anything. For mains we both ordered the pork chop. This is a MUST order! Literally the best most juicy/flavorful I've ever had. Dessert was also so good but pork chop was the real deal. Only downside was restaurant was very cold. The food is absolutely phenomenal. They serve locally sourced ingredients from local farms. We ordered Taylor shellfish Mediterranean Mussels and the House Pull-Apart Rolls as appetizers. The mussels were sweet and flavorful. Form our main dishes, we ordered-- piece by piece farm heirloom tomatoes, Olsen farm new fingerling potatoes and butchers cut pork chop. The pork chop was cooked to perfection and it probably one of the best I've ever had. It was juicy and tender. We ended with they're hazelnut pie. Not a lot of outdoor viewing so request for a table by the window in your reservation if you want to enjoy sunset. Oysters: 3/5 stars. There is only one choice of oyster and they dress it for you with sauces, mint, and slice of tomato. Plus it's $52 for a dozen. We didn't want all that. Pull apart bread: 5/5 stars. Definitely get this as a table starter. The fluffiness of the bread, sweet and savory butter - perfection. Clams: 4/5 stars. Receive a lot of clams in a savory soupy sauce. Sourdough bread was charcoaled and drizzled with a honey type sweetness. Carrots: 4/5 stars. Good flavor profile. Served luke warm. Good complement to a main dish. Porkchop: 5/5 stars. I understand this a seafood forward spot but this is what you order here. It came in highly recommended by the server too. Fell off the bone like butter. SO good. Salmon: 2.5/5 stars. Really disappointed. It was overcooked for one, and I wasn't a fan of the sauce it's marinated and doused with. I preferred my home cooked salmon. I was struggling to finish this dish. Honestly, was kind of a let down. I really have been wanting to try this place for a while now and the service was just ok. The ambiance is really nice but we were seated all the way in the back with not a lot of natural lightning and then the tables were seated too close to each other. Was really hard to enjoy the meal while hearing others' conversations right next to you. Got everything from the raw bar menu and then the mussels were probably the best item from that list (could use a hit of tabasco though). The oysters lacked acidity and were not shucked and cleaned well; many shards of shell were in my oyster to the point I nearly chipped my tooth biting down. The curdo dishes were ok but again, lacked acidity and the berries with the rockfish tasted frozen and not fresh. The fish was at room temp which was odd because it would have been more refreshing if chilled/cool. The rolls were ok but the biggest let down of the night was the cauliflower dish. Just chunks of cauliflower that tasted a bit undercooked and it lacked seasoning. The bits that were fried were not really crispy and the nuoc mam flavor was faint and overall, the dish just really lacked seasoning and flavor. Also ordered the hazelnut pie for dessert and it wasn't really a "pie" in the traditional sense. Felt more of an autumnal dessert with the fried sage and I'm not sure I really liked it. Overall, maybe I went on an off night but the prices are definitely steep and overhyped. read more

Then we had the black cod (delicate, flavorful, delicious) and the pork chop (well seasoned, cooked to perfection, on a bed of corn goulash - really good). We rounded it out with the chocolate olive oil cake -- which was rich and tasty -- but we didn't try the cornmeal honey cake, and wished we had -- we saw it at another table and it looked great. But i was very satisfied w the warm, sugar crunchy edged cake and ice-cream combo. It's cold in there for Winter, so consider keeping your coats. I don't know what was going on tonight but it was NOT an experience worth the cost at all. 3/5 items we ordered were just ok. This includes 2 $50+ entrees that I'm happy to spend the money on when they are great. The cod dish was very bland, neither of us liked it. The pork which is typically great here, was tough and over cooked. To top it off, our server was borderline terrible. He was hardly attentive at all. Only checked on us maybe once while he was clearing our plates. My other experiences here previously were good so I'm really not sure why this experience was so much different.
