The best experience! Valet is easy and a must. Excellent cocktails and service by everyone- from valet to host to servers. Everyone was terrific. Especially our server, Lillie! She knew how to take care of everyone in the room. She anticipates needs and was proactively helpful with our energetic five year old. We loved Lillie! Prawn cocktail was fresh. Lump crab cake was huge. Loved the corn salad and zesty sauce. Solid crab Louie and Parker house rolls. My husband devoured his surf and turf. My kiddo was delighted with his kids meal and finished the whole thing. Extra star for having an extensive, and healthy kids menu. Incredibly thoughtful. View is everything. Vibes are amazing. Charming little building with tasteful fine details. Literally couldn't ask for more. I get why this is Taylor's spot. read more

You absolutely cannot beat the amazing View here at Driftwood. Unfortunately, the entire restaurant, including the deck will be closing permanently September 8 so if you want to get in for a beautiful meal, you definitely need to hurry. Our server, Jose did a great job suggesting different drinks and menu options. We celebrated two birthdays with a delicious dessert. He was sure to put in two candles for us. Two of us had the crab omelette which was delicious and the other person had the avocado toast, which she really loved. The sticky toffee cake is so good. Don't miss this!! read more

We've dined at Driftwood before and honestly don't remember the food or service being anywhere near this disappointing, which made this visit even more surprising. We came to celebrate a special 65th birthday, and unfortunately it ended up being one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've had. From the beginning, the service was lacking. We were a party of seven, and because gratuity was automatically included, it felt like there was very little effort put into taking care of our table. In my experience, once gratuity is guaranteed, the level of service sometimes declines, and unfortunately that's exactly how this visit felt. Our server was inattentive, rarely checked on us, and the overall experience never improved. We couldn't help but feel overlooked compared to many of the other tables around us, and by the end of the meal, it honestly felt like we just didn't fit the typical demographic they were used to serving. Whether that was the case or not, that was the impression we were left with. The food was just as disappointing, especially for the price. Ribeye: Ordered medium rare but came out overcooked. We were told it would be 7-9 oz, but it was nowhere near that size. Grilled Cheese: Honestly one of the worst we've seen. The cheese wasn't even melted. Kids Salmon: Barely warm and completely lacked flavor. Sea Bass: Very underwhelming. The mushrooms were by far the best part of the dish. Shrimp: Nothing memorable or worth ordering again. Another frustrating part of the experience was ordering for our kids. There wasn't a printed kids' menu, so I spent time trying to figure out how to split and modify an adult chicken entrée for them. Only after asking several questions did our server casually mention there was a kids' menu--it just wasn't printed. We had been seated with two children from the start, so mentioning that right away would have saved time and made the process much easier. To top it off, an automatic gratuity then PLUS a 3% restaurant fee were added to the bill. In California that fee is suppose to be visible for patrons to see and be aware of and it was not anywhere, which was another disappointing factor. Our bill was nearly $500, and the issue wasn't the price. We eat at upscale restaurants often and have no problem paying for a great dining experience. The problem was that neither the food nor the service were good. We left feeling disappointed, especially since this was meant to be a memorable 65th birthday celebration. We truly hope this was just an off night because our previous experience was much better, but unfortunately this visit missed the mark in almost every way. read more

I heard driftwood is closing on 9/7 permanently-- But I still wanted to add a review. I came here a long time ago and maybe it's cus they're closing soon, the menu this time was so limited for lunch. Not much seafood except octopus and crab cake. Parking is valet or street if you get lucky. They have no AC inside where they have indoor seating. It probably reached high 80s inside. I was sweating the entire time I was eating. Octopus was salty and kind of hard with sausages. Large Brussel sprouts portions. Service was quick and concise. No banter back and forth. The outdoor seating only has 2 ppl tables. If you get to go before they close, make sure you are aware of no AC in the California summer heat. read more

We came here for lunch today and we were kind of surprised about how mid it was. First, I waited for a long time at the host desk to be helped. The hosts were walking around laughing and chatting while I was just standing there for a while waiting. Once we were seated, our waiter was nice to get our drinks, food order, and waters. Although our server was nice, he only came around to check on us once at the end of our meal. By the time we got what we needed, it was time to leave. I would totally understand more if it was busy and swamped, but it wasn't that busy at lunchtime. The food was good. Big portions! I got the fish and chips and my dad got the salmon burger. Both were really tasty. The fries were hard and dry :(. The best part of the restaurant is the view. Beautiful and right on the water! Nice ocean breeze on a sunny day :) *There is no self parking, only valet. The first 2 hours are $16. One valet was kind of rude but the other 2 were really sweet! All in all, I wouldn't return again. Not good service, and the food was okay for the high price. read more

Me and my daughter came on the last day! It was a beautiful restaurant, with a great view, and amazing food! I enjoyed having my birthday dinner here and glad I got to experience this place before it closed. We had the ribeye and sea bass and it was cooked perfectly. We were sat immediately and our waitress was attentive the whole time. Farewell Driftwood! read more

I am so profoundly disappointed in my experience at driftwood kitchen. I will start with the extremely few positives, the view is incredible and the young lady hosting was personable and helpful. She got us sat on the patio with a view promptly and with a smile. Now onto the rest of the experience! The website recommends arriving early to your reservation, which we did. Our reservation was for around 7 and we checked in at a little after 6:35. We were sat at approximately 6:50pm and proceeded to wait to be greeted for over 15 minutes (see timestamped photos below). This was frustrating as there didn't seem to be any reason why we were waiting so long. There were quite a few servers working, plenty of servers assistants helping out, and the restaurant wasn't huge (maybe 30-40 tables). As someone that works in the industry, there was no true reason for us to wait so long to be greeted and if there was, it should've been communicated. Once we were finally greeted, we immediately ordered two appetizers and told our server that we were still deciding on entrees. Our server did not return to check on us or grab entree orders until 5 minutes after our appetizers were delivered. By this point, it has been over 30 minutes since sitting down and our full order still isn't in. It almost felt like we were intentionally being neglected because we are young (gen z age) in a "fancier" restaurant and they assumed we would be difficult/not tip. Not that it matters, but my fellow diner and I make it a point to be especially kind and polite to service workers and almost always tip over 20% as we are service workers as well. The vibes were strange and continued to get worse as our experience continued. Luckily, all the food came out in a timely manner and we were so excited to dig in. I ordered the scallop meal which was delicious, but unfortunately, our other entree was fully inedible. We ordered the salmon and it came out raw!!! At first, we weren't sure if this was normal cook/preparation so we stopped eating it to wait and ask the server, but it took so long for us to be checked on again that we ended up eating the two fingerling potatoes it came with and letting the salmon sit and get cold. Thank goodness we stopped eating it because the server took the plate back to the kitchen and let us know that the chef agreed it was undercooked. Outside of the obvious issue of eating incorrectly prepared fish, their "solution" to the problem was to offer us 50% off the dish. I would understand this sentiment if we reordered a correctly cooked plate, but we sent it back and didn't ask for another. Also this place is advertised as FINE DINING! In what fine dining restaurant would you serve unsafe and improperly prepared food and not fully comp that plate?! I was shocked. I have never in my life done this before, but I asked my server if we could speak with the manager. He obliged, but with an attitude of "oh shocker these people are causing issues just like I assumed they would." Our server was never impolite, but he put no effort into serving us and seemed to expect the worst from us. This sentiment carried through to the manager as well. After briefly explaining the issue with the salmon, and choosing to omit our terrible serving experience, the manager did not even apologize. He quickly smiled and said "we will take it off," and immediately walked off. The interaction was strange and felt almost patronizing. After this, we quickly got the check and just left. My dining partner was stressed about eating the undercooked salmon and I felt incredibly uncomfortable and disappointed. Despite the subpar service and food issues, I still tipped my server over 20% to avoid being perceived as the "problem customer" that was being projected. I will warn any person that comes here that if you're not the target demographic, you will be neglected and left disappointed. MOST of the food here was actually lovely and the views were perfect, but that can't make up for the poor service and improperly prepared food. Dine with caution. read more

Driftwood Kitchen is a gem of a restaurant in Laguna Beach, California. It is a dressier, date night experience, although it does have a semi-casual bar as well. There is a small indoor restaurant, a narrow outdoor restaurant patio overlooking the water, a dark wood grain bar with leather sofas, and a front entryway seated patio with a fireplace. Reservations are highly encouraged! We made ours day-of and were lucky to be able to do so. We were having drinks at The Deck, which is an outdoor bar experience that connects to the same building as Driftwood Kitchen, and the server for The Deck can make reservations for you for Driftwood Kitchen. Our experience was great! The host was wonderful and accommodating. Our server knew the menu well and made good recommendations throughout on food and drink. We were celebrating a birthday and they treated us to a bit of their toffee cake which neither of us thought we would like and both of us actually adored. We had a salad and appetizer, which were simple but tasty, as well as the surf and turf. Honestly, the surf and turf was a little bit small and didn't blow us away, but it was well prepared and provided enough food for the evening. We then walked down to Forest Street and the other nightlife there. So this area is in walking distance of the main Laguna Beach strip. If you drive be prepared to valet because street parking is, per Laguna Beach usual, incredibly limited. If you are able to Lyft or Uber, that would be your best bet. Overall, we had a really wonderful experience and will come back here for a special occasion in the future! read more

After doing a bit of research I chose Driftwood Kitchen for a special Mother's Day Buffet Brunch for my mom-in-law and 5 family members. One of the reasons I chose them was because when I called them and I first need to mention the bombardment of texts/calls weeks, days, hours prior to our arrival confirming our reservation. I understand how busy Mother's day can be but it was overkill and nearly off putting. Upon arrival We immediately realized we were completely overdressed. The atmosphere here is much more casual than we expected, with most diners wearing relaxed beach clothing. The saving grace is definitely the view. The ocean backdrop is absolutely stunning and easily the best feature of the restaurant. Unfortunately, the food and service didn't quite match the scenery. The Mother's Day buffet brunch had a nice variety but had definitive highs and lows, and the overall food quality just missed the premium caliber we were expecting for the occasion. The service started out very attentive, but then lagged significantly mid-meal before finally picking up again right when the check arrived. Go for the breathtaking views and the casual beachside vibe, but don't expect a seamless, high-end dining experience. Extremely disappointed. read more

A must-visit spot for food lovers! The ambiance at night is lovely, although you can't fully appreciate the view after dark. I can only imagine how stunning it must be during breakfast or brunch hours. Definitely make a reservation, and valet parking is highly recommended since street parking can be a bit tight. Now, let's talk about the food... WOW! Every dish was beautifully presented and thoughtfully crafted. You can tell a lot of creativity and attention goes into each plate. The cocktails were equally impressive--perfectly balanced and delicious. This is one of those places where the presentation is almost too pretty to eat! The only area with room for improvement is the service. While everyone was pleasant, the attentiveness didn't quite match the exceptional food and atmosphere. There were small details that were missed, such as delays in getting water, ordering drinks, and having silverware and a steak knife ready when the food arrived. Our server seemed a bit distracted and not as warm or engaging as expected for a dining experience of this caliber. That said, the food absolutely stole the show and made the evening memorable. With just a little more attention to service, this place could easily deliver a truly outstanding experience from start to finish. Looking forward to coming back and seeing it reach its full potential! read more

We came here a few minutes before opening and had the whole restaurant to ourselves, with a beautiful view of the beach in the morning. The staff was friendly and welcoming. I could see how this place would be packed during regular hours... I mean look at that view! Driftwood Kitchen made our 30th anniversary celebration absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the setting felt special. We were seated at a beautiful balcony table overlooking the ocean, and the view created the perfect atmosphere for such an important milestone in our lives. The evening became even more remarkable when we had the unexpected opportunity to watch a SpaceX rocket launch from our table. Seeing it rise into the sky over the ocean while celebrating three decades of marriage was a once-in-a-lifetime moment that we will always remember. The food was excellent, and the clam chowder deserves special recognition. It was rich, flavorful, and easily the best clam chowder we can remember having. We have enjoyed plenty of chowder in New England over the years, and Driftwood Kitchen's version rivaled any of them. As wonderful as the food, view, and rocket launch were, the true highlight of our evening was Bianca W. She went far beyond what anyone would expect from a server. She was warm, attentive, thoughtful, and genuinely caring. Bianca treated us not simply as customers, but as people celebrating a meaningful chapter in our lives. Her kindness and personal attention made us feel truly valued and turned an already memorable dinner into an extraordinary anniversary experience. Exceptional service is always appreciated, but Bianca brought something even more meaningful: sincerity, warmth, and a genuine desire to make our evening special. Thank you, Driftwood Kitchen, and especially Bianca, for giving us a celebration we will treasure for years to come. We could not recommend this restaurant or Bianca more highly. read more

This review is for the Thanksgiving buffet. Parking is valet or street parking. For starters, I tried the gem salad (had candied beets, goat cheese, and pomegranate vinaigrette), grilled vegetables, shrimp, octopus salad, crab cake, shredded crab, and tuna sashimi. The gem salad was pretty tasty, although it had a little too much dressing for my preference. The shrimp and octopus salad tasted fresh. The tuna sashimi was soft, but wasn't the freshest. The crab cake had some egg pieces on top, so that was yummy! I also enjoyed the shredded crab! It was soft and sweet, but the sauce was a little too spicy for me. The carving station had turkey and prime rib. I got a lot of dark meat for the turkey, so the pieces were soft. The cranberry sauce ran out, but I tried the gravy, which didn't have a savor or rich enough flavor for me. The prime rib was pretty tender. My favorite entree was the salmon! It was sooo tender and fresh, and the gribiche sauce was unique. For sides, I tried the green bean casserole and the honey and thyme glazed carrots, which were both solid For dessert, I tried the chocolate chip cookie and marble cake with a large scoop of chocolate sauce! The cookie tasted buttery and was soft in the middle. The marble cake was pretty good, but not exceedingly special. Price was $125 per person, but it's a holiday plus you get the beach views, so the buffet was a nice experience. read more

Went to Driftwood Kitchen last minute for brunch. They used to have a great vegan hash on the menu, but unfortunately there are no real vegan options anymore. I am not a fan of places where you simply remove the cheese from a dish to make it vegan, don't replace it with anything else, and still charge the same price. It just feels like an afterthought rather than a true option. I did have a watermelon mocktail which was actually pretty good. The inside was really loud though, and it was hard for our table of four to hear each other. There were also no tables available outside when we arrived. That said, the location really is beautiful and the ocean view is great. One thing to note is that it is valet only, and we ended up waiting quite a while to get the car back. Visited Driftwood Kitchen on an early Wednesday morning and was able to get a table very quickly. The servers were up beat and seemed to enjoy working there. My server specifically was knowledgeable about the menu and told us that everything was delicious. Started off with a simple espresso martini which was expertly made and refreshing. Also ordered the Blueberry pancakes, and the DK Benedict with steak and the DK Benedict with crab cakes. Moment of silence for the pancakes!!! They were fluffy delicious, warm, sweet just all around amazing. I would go back over and over again for these pancakes. The DK Benedict with crab cakes were tasty. The crab cakes were a great size and flavorful. The DK Benedict with steak was not my favorite. The steak itself was a bit overcooked and I was surprised that there was lettuce on the Benedict. The lettuce completely threw me off, because it was under the steak it was soggy - and it really did not add any value to the dish. Lastly tried the French toast which was decent, was not a fan of the granola crust. Overall I would recommend this place for a nice weekend brunch with friends or family. I will definitely be going back for those pancakes! read more

We decided to give Driftwood another chance! We made a reservation and arrived about 50 minutes early to try and get an outdoor seat for the sunset -- totally worth it. The view was stunning, and we ended up waiting around 50 minutes, so arriving early definitely helped. We split the surf and turf -- I'm eating low-fat right now, so I just had the lobster, which was amazing. I also got the potatoes again, and they were just as good as I remembered. My boyfriend enjoyed the steak, mashed potatoes, asparagus, and the flauta. The little hearts near the flauta were such a cute touch -- we really appreciated the extra detail. Our waitress, Devon, was incredibly sweet and super accommodating with my dietary restrictions, no hesitation at all. That kind of thoughtful service really stands out. Stunning views, consistently delicious, and the perfect brunch spot Driftwood Kitchen continues to be one of my favorite Laguna Beach gems, and our recent brunch in the main dining room was another reminder of why it's a go-to. We brought our parents here for a weekend visit, and they were completely impressed from the oceanfront views to the warm service to the consistently delicious food. The chilaquiles were the star of my meal: perfectly balanced, with just the right amount of spice and incredible flavor in every bite. I'm still thinking about them. The pineapple mimosas were bright, refreshing, and such a fun twist on the classic brunch drink. We also ordered the Brussels sprouts as a starter, and wow were these were so good I genuinely want to learn how to make them at home. Crispy, flavorful, and a perfect opener to the meal. After 10 years of being opened, and 3,000 reviews, I think it is time for Driftwood to receive a huge makeover to it's building, menu, and staff training. While maintaining it's values or it's vision, I hope that Driftwood continues to strive for excellence. The location is off PCH and the signage is barely non-existent as you turn down a dodgy driveway at night. It is difficult to spot as there isn't a lot of lighting and seems like you are driving in a motel parking alleyway. There is a Valet and they did not disclose there were two entrances for the main dining area or the patio area. Atmosphere: After walking up and down the stairs through the patio area, we were greeted with a hostess and were immediately sat down with our reservation. There were about 8 other tables eating and our seating was towards the middle. There was an unlit Christmas tree and some lighting ropes on the ceiling. However, one of the biggest wishes I have for Driftwood is to modernize their dining room with decent lighting. My table had to take out our flashlights to read the menus. I also did not appreciate that my chair was tightly placed between walkways where people bumped into me. Menu: It is a bit confusing when we see a happy hour drink menu when we can not even order from it in the dining room. It should be on a separate menu only place by the bar area. Service: Our waitress was very kind with explaining the sizing of the appetizers, drink ingredients, and menu items. Food: While some of the dishes we ordered were flavorful, other items we ordered were very salty and fatty. The seabass was flavorful and cooked well and some of the appetizers liked the least were the Brussel sprouts doused in sauce made the dish very soggy. While our table left full, I don't think we were eager to come back. read more

A very nice fine dinning spot in the beautiful city of laguna beach! We came here on a Saturday night around 7:30, walked past it at first and was redirected by staff at the deck bar lol! The outside was very cozy to walk into and when you first walk in, it's like a rustic cabin that turns into an old fashion lighthouse...very on theme. For drinks we started with a glass of Chardonnay and a drink I ordered called the passionate one. The wine was a clean Chardonnay and the passionate one was like a traditional mimosa with a fruity twist to it! We ordered the meat and cheese board to start. 95% of it was to our liking, ran out of the bread they provide fast with the heavy amount of cheese they put on the board. My wife ordered the steak and I ordered the lobster carbonara. Both were amazing and above par, 2 large onion rings on the side of the steak is a hardy combo, steak sauce was a lot like a high class ketchup (not our favorite). To our opinion, does not pair well with these type of steak. Lobster was good, pasta was alittle undercooked. There was also a loud group of teenagers at another table that in my opinion should have been kicked out. I'm still going to leave a 5 star review since this place was amazing overall!! If you see my other reviews you'll know I'm picky when it comes to fine dining, and just because some things were not EXACTLY to my taste, does not mean it earns itself less than 5 stars. Thank you driftwood kitchen for an amazing night! read more

Very sad. What used to be a place that took pride in their product, it has gone the way of other restaurants which believe they can live on location alone. Eggs Benedict with incredibly over cooked eggs is a deal killer. While they were poached by definition, they were hard as any hard boiled egg on its worst day. It pains me to write such negativity but I'm trying to be as nice as possible with the two stars. read more
