Can't say enough good things. Yes, they do charge a fee for quoting a project. But, I don't blame them - the assessor I had (Tom) was professional and knowledgeable and spent many hours putting together a work plan and estimate. I didn't mind paying. I ended up going with it, so the fee was waived. I had a complex drainage problem that was affecting my foundation, and I live on a very steep hill in Emerald Hills / Redwood City. I'd had probably 10 different contractors out to look at it, and each one told me something different. Drainage Pros was the first company where I felt confident that they knew what they were doing. The price wasn't bad, either - it was about 30% cheaper than a similar quote for the same work scope. The crew, led by Javier, was incredibly professional. They had great judgement and basically never needed my input on anything. They dug a 12-foot trench, *by hand*, four stories up on the ridiculous cliff I live on. I couldn't believe it. At each stage, they went beyond what I expected. I feel like our house can handle basically any amount of rain without an issue. Had a French drain installed and the foundation started to crumble (old crappy foundation) and they quickly built up a frame to support the house and repaired that section of the foundation. Glad I went with these guys rather than the other who quoted much less. Also, when the power went out and I called (on a weekend) with questions they got back to me quickly and addressed my concerns. During the 2022/23 winter season, I was getting quite a bit of water in my crawl space and in my garage. I also noticed some cracking inside my home from settlement issues. I made an appointment with Drainage Pros to inspect the condition of my foundation to determine whether a French drain system was needed. The cost was $250. Instead of giving me an honest assessment of my foundation, their focus was on giving me a quote for French drains. The owner Rich told me that Jonathan who inspected my foundation would get a commission if I hired Drainage Pros to install French drains. Drainage Pros' basis for recommending French drains was that some of the soil in my crawl space was damp, and they saw efflorescence. I had two other inspectors give me a second opinion. Both of them looked carefully at every pier and my entire foundation and said that there is no mold and "no evidence of damage or deterioration." They both said that damp soil and efflorescence alone do not necessitate a big problem or a need for expensive French drains. Dampness and efflorescence is common in crawl spaces and not a problem as long as you have good ventilation, and there is no evidence of damage or deterioration to your foundation or piers. I cannot recommend Drainage Pros because they misled me by telling me I was paying $250 for an inspection and assessment of the condition of my foundation, but they really were just charging me for a quote to install French drains. In fact, the inspection report they provided did not even include any pictures. And the pictures they eventually provided me after I followed up showed no evidence of any mold, damage, or deterioration to my foundation or piers. read more

Here is our experience: Our home is situated on a slight gradient, sloping from the neighbor's fence towards the main structure. Whenever it rains a lot, there would be visible moisture in the crawl space. To protect the foundation, we wanted to install a proper drainage system. We scouted google / yelp for a drainage company. Eureka! We found Drainage Pros. Getting an appointment with Drainage Pros was easy. Jonathan came by on the appointment day, walked through the property, asked several questions, and explained the available options. A couple of days afterwards, we received a written proposal with a robust set of options. Jonathan helped us navigate the options and come up with a solution to fit within our budget. The actual excavation and installation went without any hitch. The foreman was here on most days, Jonathan and Rich (the owner) came by a couple of times during the project. The crew used an automated conveyor belt system to move the dirt from the back of the house to the street and hauled it away. After the project was complete, Rich came by to ensure everything was done perfectly. All in all, a fantastic and thorough job. I am incredibly impressed by Drainage pros. Rich, Jonathan, Javier, the rest of the construction team, and all of the office staff I worked with are pros in every sense. We have a 100 year old house in the east bay hills. An engineer looked at our house and said that if we want to avoid expensive foundation problems, we needed to add a surface and subsurface drainage system. Drainage pros figured out a way to gravity feed all our water (ie no sump pump) even though 1) our basement footing is 7ish feet below ground at points, and 2) most of the street bordering our property is up hill from the house. Additionally, even though it was a pretty huge project, Rich was very understanding that it would take us an extra few days to get cash from an investment sale for the final payment. I offered to take out a loan to get him the money quicker, and he told me I didn't need to do so. I see some folks balking at the fee for inspection. Please don't. These are serious people who can address a complex problem. We got quotes from a few entities and Drainage pros' bid was extremely fair. Moreover, they figured out a purely mechanical solution, saving us maintenance and replacement costs down the line that other companies were not able to identify. This review is well overdue but for a reason! We moved to a new house in 2017 and the next spring we noticed water sipping into our bath which is above the house concert slab. We met a few contractors to install a french drain/pit, as well as collecting/diverting roof rain water and pouring concrete around the house. We decided to work with Rich; his price was not the lowest but considering his work quality and his work ethics, we were very happy to work with Rich. He was great in giving us options, listening to what we want and stay on schedule and budget. After three years, all of his work stayed flawless and we have never had any issue with drainage since. Our house is twenty five years old and I notice that water has been collecting water in one area of the house. My concern was that the dirt in our area is like clay it retains water and does not drain very well. The ground around the house is so compacted that water was not going anywhere. The current drain system was not working and could have an adverse affect on the concrete slab. I called Drainage pros because they had very good reviews and I'm glad I did. Jonathan explained everything very well and how his team can make sure I minimize standing water. He went over what they were going to do and explain why they need to install certain drainage grates. He sent a detail worksheet with everything we discussed. We agree to continue and in about four days they completed the work. Since I was home I watched how they worked through the process and they were very diligent in getting everything done right the first time. We had a terrible issue with flooding on our lower deck. Every year it was a struggle to make sure our 35 year old sump system worked. This is a bit overdue, but now I can speak to the work after seeing the results in action. Our house is cut into a hillside, and would regularly have water intrusion in the area under the house, depending on the winter rains. The ground under the back of the house spent more time as mud than dry. There was also plenty of efflorescence along the garage and cellar area walls, indicating that a lot of water was hanging out and not going where it needed to. Rather than wait for the problems to become worse (and more expensive), we collected multiple quotes, and then went with Drainage Pros. What I liked about Rich is that he really took an interest in my property, and wanted to find the best solution for me. While the fix was anything but cheap, doing it right involved a LOT of work, and I only wanted to go through this once. After signing some paperwork, we made arrangements for his crew to spend the better part of a month at my house. To say the crew worked hard would be an understatement. They showed up early, moved an absolutely incredible amount of material each day, and were well organized. The foreman, Javier, was always happy to answer any questions, and managed the job well. The end result? DRY!!! When it rains, I am still known to risk getting soaked just to watch the jets of water from the updated system exit at the sidewalk. It truly never gets old. :-) read more

Upon buying our home we found that there was a serious drainage issue where standing water would appear every winter under the house and you could put your fist through the mud. We called everyone on Yelp that did French drains and got 5 quotes. My focus was quality over a few grand as you want this done once, and don't want to think about it again. We went with Rich because he provided the most thorough quote, always answered my questions, especially with how detailed I was about specifics. He backed up his work with an extra warranty and 3 references spoke highly of him. We also extended our drain through part of the backyard. Rich advised me not to spend the extra money as it was overkill. A compliment to him not just trying to make an extra buck. Overall we got a French drain, sump pump, high water alarm and moisture barrier. We have had the drain for 3 winters now and it's been incredible seeing how dry the house has stayed under us. Drainage Pros did an excellent job in our yard. There was a lot to fix. Now we're ready for a deluge, and we'll sleep well when it rains. THE PROBLEMS THAT THEY FIXED: The old drainage was from a surface drain in the back yard through a buried corrugated hose (6", plenty big enough, but read on) to the street, under the sidewalk. We'd had a concrete pad laid down log ago for a shed we never built, on the side of the house, right on top of that hose where it couldn't be reached if it went bad, which it did, and extending right to the retaining wall so an emergency channel couldn't be dug to drain the rainwater if the drainage went bad, which it did. Then we'd put down plastic sheeting to block weeds in the front yard downstream from there, covered with bark chips -- that was the coup de grace to our drainage. It blocked surface runoff, the ground got waterlogged, and the drainage hose floated up out of the mud, into a position where it was no longer downhill from the surface drain, so the backyard started flooding. And that drainage hose was full of roots anyway. So Drainage Pros sawed off a few inches from the concrete pad (very neatly) so they could dig a ditch between the pad and the retaining wall for solid PVC pipe, replaced our old surface drain and added several more where needed, and ran the pipe down to the sidewalk, drilling underneath it where necessary because the old drain was too small and plugged with roots anyway. Of course they had PG&E mark where the electrical lines were buried so they could avoid them. They had to cut through a couple of lengths of PVC irrigation pipe I had installed years ago when I was still young enough to do that, and they repaired the breaks they had to make. The drains they installed had a bit of clearance just below the lip of the drainpipe where it emerged from the concrete holding it in place, which would have allowed an inch-deep moat of standing water to form around each pipe exit, so I asked them to bring the concrete collar up to the rim of the drainpipe so the moat wouldn't form. They did. Years ago I might not have thought of that, but a new species of mosquito is spreading in California that can breed in an amount of standing water as small as a bottle-cap. I don't think it's been spotted in our county yet, but it's only a matter of time. I'd hire them again in a minute. We plan to replace the rotting retaining wall next year, and we'll hire them to do it. read more

It was a disturbing noise and we had to unplug it to stop the noise, but that wasn't safe, based on the unreliable weather prognosis. During last winter's storms we had an underground creek run through our crawlspace and saturation of the soil caused our house to shift a bit. Drainage Pros assessed the problem, provided a written estimate, installed a French drain system with sump pump, made repairs to existing storm drains and got all of it done before the rains started. The workers were punctual and efficient, the work was professional and neat, and now that there has been some rain it is clear that all of the system works as intended. We hired Drainage Pros August 2020 to install an extensive system including sump pump to push flow to the street. First winter seemed to work well. This year during both major rain events the pump failed, we had extensive pooling of water which went under our house, over onto neighbors property. We had to rig up sumps and run hoses to the street in torrential rain. We contacted Rich many , many times and he never has come out. Email and call to Jonathan - no response whatsoever. This business is very GREEDY and UNPROFESSIONAL. I originally called this company in January because our house flooded due to the heavy rains and our drained had been backed up. The lady who answered the phone told me it would be $250 to come out but they still may not be able to figure out the solution. We had our drain serviced by another company and it only needed to be cleaned out. We no longer have an issue and drain is great. Now we were looking to add additional drainage as a preventive measure so I had saw the Drainage Pros pics on yelp and had spoken to them previously and decided to call them back. This time my husband calls she said it was $350 to come out and looking at our address it would be around $30,000. She also said she had never spoken to me but when I called she had record of when we spoke? I'm confused are you repiping our whole house, adding an additional adu, a gazebo, a pool perhaps. So I call her to clarify why the price to come out went up and what work would be necessary at 30k? This lady has a bad attitude and says well I told your husband but I would have to go over the notes with you alllll over again, now its like I'm giving you another estimate (after she initially said she isn't the estimator), the price went up because Pittsburg isn't profitable, its too far out (but they're based in Walnut Creek?). Old lady with great operator voice but poor attitude. For $30k you should be willing to have exceptional customer service and explain whatever is necessary. Stay away from these people. Im following my first instinct. If you are upcharging and have a nasty attitude already it can only get worse. We had a major flooding issue during the rains and also signed up for the $250 site visit. I understand that given the situation with the rain this year you need to qualify out the tire kickers. They came out and really had no idea on how to solve the issue and said they would follow-up with a documented plan. I have to start by saying that Rich really knows his stuff. He was able to determine what was going on with the drainage at our new house before we completed the deal. Turns out the drainage had failed around the entire house. It was causing water damage on the slab. He turned around his report timely as we were really concerned that this would be a deal breaker for this house and we may have to walk away. His quote for the work was pretty high and he charged $450 for the inspection which our sellers refused to pay for. That said, he got us the report timely which we appreciated! Only giving 4 's because he was very late for our appointment, he did communicate that he was caught in traffic and gave a $50 discount- thank you Rich BUT the quote was very high at 3 times the average cost for the type of work needed. read more

I am very disappointed to write this review as I have never written a 1 star review; I only write positive ones as I love to support small businesses. Drainage Pros charged me $150 to come out to give me an idea of how we might deal with our problem of back patio drains not emptying to the street like they were supposed to. Jonathan, the salesman, came and told us what we already knew, that the drains were not working. He did not go under the house, as I was told he would, to find out where the water was actually going. it took weeks before he got back to us and had nothing to share - no plans ( other than the one we had suggested that he disagreed with when he was here) , no estimates, nothing. We emailed, texted and finally We set up a zoom appt and We had drawn up diagrams of our drainage systems to better help him come up with a plan, and Nothing. Nothing. We wrote and emailed and he was busy and sorry but no follow through. I contacted th owner via snail mail, text, phone but no response. I want my $150 back as I received nothing for it. Rich, the owner, may be knowledgeable but we never received the benefit of that. To not respond to a paying customers is not good business. When I called again yesterday, Terry, the scheduler, said she had told Rick every time i called or wrote. When I mentioned I would have to write a review for others, Rich the owner called immediately. We talked 30 seconds and he said we would do a 3 way call with Jonathan, I said that was great, waited by the phone and no call. This is not good. My recommendation would be to try someone else. Called Drainage Pros to schedule a sump pump replacement. Rich answered the phone and answered the call for help. He was very professional and was able to have Alberto come to the house within two days to replace the pump. Alberto is knowledgeable ... and resourceful. The new (and working) sump pump was not able to drain the yard because of a blocked drainage line. Alberto drove to the local Ace and picked up some pool hoses (corrugated hose was sold out). He used the hose to rig a temporary drainage line for the pump. This workaround should work for the next 2-3 weeks. Rich will have a crew come to repair the blocked drainage line within that time. I will provide an update to this review after that work is completed. read more
