Me, my mother, my aunts and my cousins a total of 8 people decided to go here for our mother's day celebration. This being our first experience here I did not know what to expect. I have been to many teahouses in my life and this is by far one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had. This "Tea Party" was very expensive, more costly than having a brunch at the Redwood cafe in Modesto which has a far nicer ambiance , includes unlimited food, and unlimited drinks. I understand these are not exactly comparable places, but I personally make decisions based on how much value I receive for the money paid. So first, you only receive two cups of tea, which I would understand if it were not for the very high price. Second, the food is mediocre at best. It was decent but certainly lacking in substance. The "tea sandwiches" were mostly bread with the thinnest layer of actual chicken or artichoke I think feasibly possible. To say it was anything more than a spread would be overly generous. The desserts were a redeeming portion of the experience, specifically the scones, so kudos for that. The last and most important portion of this disappointing experience certainly came from the customer service. The waitress we had was decent enough, but the older woman who I can only assume is the owner, is rude and should honestly stay in the back. She made obvious unpleasant facial expressions when we had questions or even wanted to speak with her. There was a slight hiccup where we thought we were short one scone. We asked the waitress about this and the response was " we carefully count everything in the back and someone must have eaten the other one" which is quite a rude response considering we paid $35.00 for tea and very light Hors d'oeuvres. To be fair, we did find out that someone from our table ate the extra scone. I understand we were incorrect, and our intention was not to receive additional food for free, but I have never been to a restaurant that would give a customer that response. I can assure you that the investment made in placating our group with a complimentary scone would have been well worth the 2 dollars or less that it cost to make the scone itself. Because now not only will we not be returning, we certainly will not be recommending anyone to this tea room and will actively discourage it. Moving on to the next and final part of this dissatisfying extravaganza, was when my grandmother, who had very high hopes for this place, actually apologized for the missing scone fiasco. The older ladies response was basically no response with a look of exhaustion and annoyance by our mere presence and request for conversation. I am assuming the tip is included in the exorbitant price because there was no tip line on the receipt, but I doubt I would have felt the urge to tip anyways. If you are going to run a business involved in customer service, I highly recommend you like or at least be able to control your facial expressions that show your disinterest for your customers. For reference, I have worked in customer service for many years and currently work in an environment that requires high level customer service, so I can tell you with confidence when customer service is subpar. From what I can tell may others have had similar experiences, so I hope this review helps someone to at least know what they are getting into with this place. read more
