Swanky place that is connected to Hotel Dupont. Great ambience, good drinks, nice crowd. Went here for an mid-evening gathering with friends and ended up staying until closing. In fact, lots of groups around us stayed until closing as well, so that tells you people were having a good time. Our waitress was extremely pleasant (and from West Germany!), so that definitely made the experience more enjoyable. The drinks menu is a decent size, and they all taste very good. If you like St. Germain, go for drinks with that included - they don't skimp on it. Love that elderflower taste. Of course, they also provide complimentary trays of bar snacks for customers, and they kept them coming throughout the night. High marks for that. The interior decor is classy - wooden everything with cool exposed bulbs hanging from the ceiling in the bar area. One thing that did puzzle me was the large TV in dining room because it didn't flow with the rest of the place. Great service, good ambiance, and quality beverages. Two friends and I returned to Bar Dupont after a hot, sweaty walk up and down Massachusetts Ave. for the EU Embassies Open House. We initially stopped in at Kramerbooks & Afterwords, but upon remembering how overpriced the menu items are and feeling claustrophobic, we decided to venture across NH Ave. to Bar Dupont, where we could relax in the A.C. and people watch the activity in Dupont Circle. Our server was a little slow, but we were in no hurry; we just wanted to revel in the cool air and put our feet up after walking in the heat. I had a Strongbow (a cider from the U.K.), which I had never tried before but that provided ultimate refreshment. We attempted to order the sliders thinking that we had a choice of beef, chicken, or salmon. The waitress notified us that we got one of each, which we found a bit odd. We decided to get two orders and we would mix and match later. They were just what we needed after exhausting our bodies from embassy to embassy. I didn't sample the fries, but my companions said they were delicious with just the right amount of seasoning. It took a WHILE to get the check, but overall, we had a nice experience. We wanted to chill, people watch, and refuel our bodies with good food and drink, and Bar Dupont offered just that. read more

Really enjoyed Doyle Bar! This was probably one of our favorite stops in DC on our recent trip. The drinks were tasty and strong, although they were not cheap. However, I think the quality of the drinks and service as well as the nice patio in DuPont Circle were well worth the price! Would definitely return in the future. read more

I actually thought this was a nice place and had a definitely more mellow feel than most other places in the area. I went here today and I was pretty impressed with the decor in the interior of the place. I was pleased with the fact that they are open late, even on the weekends. The commotion of people eating al fresco was definitely an appeal and helped lure us inside. The inside had a pretty nice bar and a large dining room. The lighting was pretty cool and the orbs hanging down were nice and dim, but but bright enough to read the menus. The place had an earthy feel to it, but at the same time was pretty classy. If you're going to be dining inside, I recommend pulling up a plush chair rather than one made out of wood or non-soft stuff. The Romans thought of it first, but it's as close to "reclining at table" as you're going to get in modern public restaurants. It's definitely a nice place to grab a beer or cocktail and conversate with friends. I thought the chicken breast entree was good, however, I felt the portions of the cut of chicken could have been larger and a choice of sides could have been offered. The server was kind enough to split our checks three ways and despite an error on his part, he quickly rectified the problem. The only problem that resulted from the sum of the dining experience was that we were late in catching the last Metro of the day (which left on midnight) and ended up having to take a cab. read more

I'm still pretty new to DC, so when my girlfriend told me she wanted me to meet her at Bar Dupont for some drinks, I happily said 'sure'. I always say yes to bars because I always say yes to beer :) However, I didn't know Bar Dupont was the kind of bar where you pay $7 for a Boddinton on draft... during happy hour. Are you serious Bar Dupont? Okay, fine, you should just be happy that I just got paid that day. On to the food. Extremely disgusted. We ordered the calamari and fries, which was $7, and was surprised to find out that the calamari had no flavor to it and the fries were, eh, alright. I'm sad to say this but it was the most expensive and bland bar food I've ever had. This place has a great ambiance and the crowd was laid back but the food and beer was not worth the price I paid for it. I will probably not go back to Bar Dupont unless I have a dumb ass girlfriend that is willing to pay crazy prices for food and beverage. *huge sigh* read more

This is based on the bar only, in the middle of a Sunday. I didn't try the food, didn't see the night crowd, but I did have one of the best cocktails ever. A Thyme Gimlet. I subbed out Tanqueray for Hendrick's gin--good move. I was pretty much drunk by the time I saw the bottom of my glass--and that's saying a lot. For the prices of the drinks--however pleasing--Bar Dupont needs to upgrade their glassware. Perfect for one pre-brunch cocktail with a friend, but I wouldn't go there to get wasted unless I just won the lottery. You'd be looking at a $200 bar tab, easy. read more

They should rename this place WAITING FOR GODOT! Went there for lunch yesterday. The place was less than 1/3 full (including the outside portion of the restaurant). I counted 3 waiters, a bar tender, and a server working at the time (not to mention what appeared to be the restaurant manager). It took a little over 1.5 hours for the staff to serve us a prix fixe meal. If the place was jammed pack, there would have at least been an excuse. I had gazpacho, flat bread (pizza) and cheesecake. The gazpacho was good, the flat bread below par and the cheesecake tasted like it was made the day before. The decor was modern, the location is right on DuPont Circle which challenges those traveling there by car to find parking. The view of the circle can't be matched. Had to give this place a 1-star rating. Poor service will kill you every time. read more

Being a fan of the old Biddy Mulligan's, I'm pretty disappointed with its replacement, the spruced-up and pretentious Bar Dupont. I really wanted this reincarnation to work out since I live closeby and it's a great location for meeting people, but I probably won't be coming back anytime soon. When you first walk in you'll notice that a lot has changed inside, including the furniture, the decor, and unfortunately, the attitude of the staff. On a Tuesday night, the place was not very crowded, yet we waited for 15 minutes at a table with no service; I finally snagged a menu from the half-empty bar after a considerable wait there. Once we flagged down a server to take our order, she gave us a look as though we'd just peed on her shoes. The other servers we saw looked either on the verge of tears, complacent, or lost in space. Hopefully this is just rookie b.s. that they're going to iron out, but I'm not terribly optimistic about it. The menu is pricey, albeit the food is definitely a step up from Biddy's offerings (which weren't half bad at all). However, $16 for a milkshake with a choice of liqueur (Kahlua, etc.) is kind of crazy in my opinion; I didn't try it, so maybe it just happens to be that good - I'll have to reserve judgment indefinitely on that one, because I'm not paying $16 for a damn milkshake, no matter how good it is. The owners did a really nice job of transforming the place into a more high-class establishment; time will tell whether this is going to alienate too many people like myself who just liked to go to Biddy's for a beer instead of feeling the need to dress up and tolerate bad service for higher quality food and drinks. I gave this place two stars for the effort they put into redesigning the place and for the slim hope I have that the service will turn around. read more

I actually have never written a negative complaint about an establishment before but I believe my issue with Bar Dupont warrants one. My friends and I attended Happy Hour there on 1/13/17. We had so many issues with the waitress and overall service, but I have one extremely large matter that I need to share... I covered the tab with my credit/debit card...a total of $58. Check signed, tab closed and left the bar. Tuesday morning came and checked my banking account online....and I found a posted (not pending) transaction from Bar DuPont for $422!!!!! Of course I call to get it straightened out. They told me they would refund my money immediately and could not give a definitive answer as to why or how this happened. 5 business days later....still no refund!!!! Needless to say, I will never go back to Bar DuPont and if you do I recommend you pay in cash. read more

Bumping it up to five stars for happy hour! Although short from 4-6PM (which I believe is daily), you get specialty cocktails for $7, drafts for $5, and house wines for $6. Really though, you come for the cocktails which use pretty good spirits. Its also a great vibe and the bar also has plenty of seating for relaxing as well as free wifi. Bar Dupont gets one of those enthusiastic "Meh!" type sounds with the head til and shoulder shrug. Ya know, it wasn't too bad but I don't think its gonna be my 'spot' if ya feel what I'm saying. I felt like I was in a commercial, a commercial for an Apple product that would only frustrate me later or a Scion or a European tailored suit. its kinda cool that you have huge windows facing Dupont Circle but Dupont Circle isn't a whole lot to look at. There was a nice crowd for a Tuesday afternoon during a nasty day in DC, but maybe that was part of the reason so many people were heading to Happy Hour instead of doing anything outside. We had a spot at the bar stools in the bar area that were facing the circle. it's a great spot to chat and the volume of the music is not too high either. a good people watching spot -- we ran into a few CNN reporters during our time there yesterday. Beers on tap were Ok in terms of the selection - but I don't get why they use small glasses to give you beers that are tap. When you are paying $7 during happy hour for a beer you want more then a half pint. I felt really jipped in that sense and probably wont' be ordering beer there anytime soon. It's a bit trendy, perhaps the reason the place was maybe half full during a Saturday afternoon World Cup match? In any case, an excellent space and I very much appreciated the strong AC on such a hot and humid day. The drink specials start at 4, so those are worth waiting for. The only bad thing is that the bar staff kept trying to give me a refill on my beer after I told them that I didn't want one. THREE times did they bring a beer over and try to leave it on my table as if I wouldn't notice or object. I guess we weren't drinking enough or something, so they tried encourage another purchase? Stopped in here for brunch on Sunday and thought the atmosphere was comfortable and chic. Great bar menu with large variety of specialty cocktails available for happy hour. Everything was going well until our waitress flicked a HUGE roach off her shoulder and it went running behind a couch cushion. After another server hunted and killed it, we thought it was the end of the roach sightings, but that was not the case. While approaching the bathroom, there was a dead roach laying legs up by the server station with multiple servers just hanging out around the carcass. DC isn't my hometown, I'm not the biggest fan of it and the whole place baffles me, because it's not NYC. Though, each time I stay in Dupont, I can never find a place that suits me and my NYC state of mind. However, a friend suggested meeting up at Bar Dupont - I was fearful it would another dive bar that I'd hate but boy was I wrong. Walked in, clean, modern design, I wasn't loving the layout- too many walls- but I liked all the windows facing the street and the staff was really nice. Nice drink menu and great first date spot. Though, here are the cons, TVs ---very distributive-- you're a nice bar, why ruin it? And layout isn't the greatest-too many walls not enough flow. Overall, great date spot just stay far from the TVs and the back room. read more

Without even looking, the restrooms are guaranteed to have the contemporary art equivalents of Thomas Kinkade paintings and some marginally functional but super trendy faucets. And one thing is for certain, trendy faucets (and front row views of Dupont Circle) cost money. Despite the real estate and atmosphere you might still have a toddler sitting next to you, because it's a hotel bar. I stayed at Hotel DuPont and came here after a night out. I was told the bar closed at 3 AM by reception but at 1:50 they refused to serve on a Saturday night. Bartenders just wanted to go home. I understand. Don't tell people you are open until 3 when you really aren't. My girlfriend asked for a glass of water and she was given warm water with no ice. Afterwards, the bartender gave drinks to the people next to us. Thank you OMAR you are now on Yelp for a horrible review. PS day time bartenders were extremely nice. Well we went in here visiting as tourists bright eyed and ready to start our tour de DuPont dc experience. we see a sign for punch bowls 13$ on a sign outside what a deal! The idea was we could split that and start out with some tropical vibes for our summer evening. Long story short we get the check and its 26 for the bowl. I look at the waitress puzzled and she looks at me like this has happened before and grabs the manager. The manager comes over and points out that it's a 13 a piece minimum 2, so it's 26 dollars. Why isn't that the price shown for the drink? Seemed like I wasn't the only person who has had to talk to the manager, in fact that was the fastest service I received all night. The conversation with the manager was uncomfortable and awkward, no hospitality or empathy. There are plenty of other bars on DuPont, I suggest anywhere else, The Big Hunt just up the street. Yeah I'm bitter, but this is the worst experience I have had on a cross country road trip. Yeah. read more

So my friends have told me that this is good spot for Happy Hour and I believe them as the prices would be much more reasonable for what you're getting. The decor is awesome and I guess you really do pay for location, but as for the service and drinks I've had better. As a former DC bartender and service worker, I believe that a place of this caliber needs to have better staff. There was no uniformity when ordering drinks. One hot tottie was served perfectly, the next they neglected to add the hot water and tea bag... When charging $10+ a drink. Your staff should know what they are doing. Located at the Dupont Circle Hotel, this bar is a cool spot for a night cap or a dessert cap in our case. We had the DOUBLE CHOCOLATE BROWNIE (decent) with a scoop of vanilla gelato. It was a tiny scoop and so we asked for an extra scoop and said we would pay for it. First they said no and then they said yes and out came a ramekin with two heaping scoops ($3 extra). Nothing too memorable but it's convenient if you're staying at the hotel. read more

I was horrified to discover the other day that I have actually been here several times and didn't even realize it. I guess it is usually towards the end of the night when I am extremely drunk. Whoops. I hope I haven't embarrassed myself here! Anyway, I do remember parts of my time last time I was at Bar Dupont and I had fun here. The lounge area is very swanky and classy, and I love the interior and the pretty view. The crowd that seems to come here is also quite classy and quiet - everyone is basically seated the whole time and no loud boozehounds stumbling around the bar. Also, great cocktail selection and free nuts! My one issue is with some of the lounge seats - at least the one I was sitting in last time - the seat (really, more like a long narrow bench) is a little uncomfortable to sit on, just because it was too narrow and didn't have great back support. Bizarrely, this is what I remember most about this place. Hopefully I will be somewhat sober next time I come here so I have something more substantial in my brain other than "good cocktails, my back hurts." But this is definitely a beautiful and classy place to get some tasty cocktails, so I recommend it. I'm sure I will be back. read more

Delectable Drinks! For those evenings when you want to play it "classy" with some friends, Bar Dupont is an excellent option. The overall ambiance of Bar Dupont is pretty chic, and I'd say it's the appropriate setting for date night. Although, the service was a tad slow at times, the tasty drinks made up for it. The rasberry tea and strawberry mint mojito are dangerous in the best way possible. You can barley taste the alcohol and it's absolutely perfect for a hot afternoon. The bar has REALLY comfortable cushioned seats that are borderline lazy boy level cozy. You can really just sit back in this dimly lit bar and enjoy your drinks along with a cute appetizer assortment of wasabi peas and nuts. Bottom line: Date night. read more

An extra item appeared on our receipt that none of us had ordered, but waiter was able to find the problem and fix it quick with no fuss. The mistake is the only reason I went down to 4 out if 5 stars. With a party of four, we spent two hours chatting enjoying good food. Lighting was perfect. Staff were always bringing us more nuts and wasabi peas before we ran out. Empty cups were always taken away shortly after finishing. This is hell's anteroom, the lounge where you wait before descending into the flames. It used to be a lovely Irish bar called Biddy Mulligan's. Always packed, good food, fun place to go. But they turned it into Bar Dupont, a trendy hotel bar that looks like LA, circa 1995. I've been dragged there several times and can form an objective opinion about the place. Drinks are expensive, weak and tiny. Appetizers are doused in garlic - $7 for a tiny plate of fries? Chairs are uncomfortable, designed by Europeans, fit only for children. High ratio of douches. Also filled with gray goose drinkers who skip out on their tabs - management makes the waiters pay. Classy, huh? read more

I'm a little torn. It's in an awesome location with unobstructed views of Dupont Circle. It's swanky inside, with relatively cool-looking furniture, etc. But all in all, it is just average. I had one cocktail--the Bee's Knees. It was fine, but strong. I didn't finish it. Service was pretty attentive and friendly, but nothing overwhelming. But I glimpsed at the bill (my drink was bought for me), and for one cocktail and one Amstel light, it was $19, pre-tip. I'm used to $12 cocktails, but somehow that didn't seem like one. And does that make a bottle of Amstel $7? I was just a little taken aback. It's pretty and I had no issues with service. I just think that the prices are pretty absurd for a place without a tremendous amount of character. read more
