Doyle Bar formerly known as Bar DuPont is a breath of fresh air. I loved Bar DuPont and I do not have any complaints. The new Doyle bar is a step up of the old bar. I am not sure why the name changed and the bar was upgraded, but it is nice. 1. The service was on par for many bars. I am glad the server Grim was our server. 2. The quality and freshness of the drinks were pretty good. However, I do miss the old bar menu. 3. The bar food was tasty! Please bring back the wasabi peas. read more

Happy Hour here is glorious. Otherwise, did you realize it's a great place to get some work done? Forget Panera - Bar Dupont is friendly to the laptop crowd, partially because this fact is never taken advantage of. Just vaguely keep your tab up and you're fine. Plus, great atmosphere and lots of windows for people watching. As others mentioned: snacks? A treat. I love a bar that serves nibbles, and a bar that serves creative cocktails even more. It's about time to write a review about my favorite hang out spot. Bar DuPont has a fantastic location. Right on DuPont circle. It has this beautiful outdoor patio where you can sit, have a drink, munching on the complimentary mixed nuts and watch people, or use their complimentary wifi and do some work! Very relaxing atmosphere. Even the inside is beautiful and classy! And always crowded. I wouldn't recommend you to eat here. The food is horrible! I've tried few times to order and twice it was so bad to the point I had to return the food. Just stick with drinks ...Anyway the atmosphere there makes you drink even more.. Service, don't expect good service! Again servers here are the slowest servers I've ever seen. You barely catch their attention... Most of the time they even disappear. You always have to ask that you need this and that... Even the check it takes them forever to get it.. Few of them are very friendly but still slow, yeah very slow! Not the first place I'd choose to get a drink in DuPont circle, but if you're staying at the Hotel DuPont, it's an ideal place to start as it's central and had large windows facing the street and DuPont Cirlce. Each time I passed it while in the hotel lobby, it was quite crowded and roaring with conversation, laughter, and the clinking of cups. When I finally went to get a drink, I waited at the bar for a few minutes, and then once I got my drink, I waited a few more minutes for a seat. Went to Bar Dupont last night for my birthday and because I wanted to check out how it looks after the extensive remodel. This used to be one of my favorite bars in DC; I'd say I would probably go there 3-4 times a month. Unfortunately, last night was not a good experience at all. The newly redone bar area is beautiful with plenty of comfortable seating, but that's where the positive review ends. The service was extremely slow. The new drinks and small bites menus are also insanely overpriced for the quality. I ordered a glass of the Perrier Jouet champagne. The server brought over the bottle and a champagne flute to pour my glass in front of me. I immediately saw that he was giving me the last few drops left in the bottle. When poured what little was left into my glass I could see that it was flat. He continued to empty the bottle anyway and then said he'd go get a new one to top me off. Normally I wouldn't complain, but at $20, I asked if I could just have a fresh glass from the new bottle. He graciously agreed but poured me the smallest glass of champagne I have ever received in my life. It couldn't have been more than 1/3 of the flute. I noticed around the room that others who ordered champagne were receiving these small pours. All in all, I'm ready sad about this experience because I used to love Bar Dupont so much. I have spent the last three New Year's Eves there, in fact. I doubt I'll be returning anytime soon though. This is a great spot and great location on DuPont circle. It is right on the corner across from a Starbucks and has the best vantage point on the circle. We wanted a good and quick bite to eat while site seeing and we walked in just to get the menu and the host at the front desk was very nice and accommodating. We were able to get a great seat right outside on the corner. The server was very nice and attentive and helped us pick a low gluten beer and we had two burgers that were amazing. I would recommend this place if you are close and it is nice enough weather to sit outside and enjoy some good food and drinks. They also have some nice seats inside with all glass window which would probably be nice if the weather gets cold. read more

If you're planning on going out for mixed drinks, make sure to order directly from the bartender and not the servers. There's a great bartender with blonde hair that makes some awesome drinks and gives you just a tad bit more for your money. Nice, modern bar. Music isn't the greatest, it seems like they play the same background music ok repeat. But very convenient location, especially for hotel guests. After having worked across the street from the hotel and bar for almost four years, I was eager to check out the remodel. It definitely looks fresh - like a mix of mid-century modern and a scene out of the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel - but I did love the comfy furniture. I just went for drinks with a group and we were able to snag a good spot with enough room for all five of us. We didn't really order any fancy drinks but what we got was all good. We also munched on the truffle fries and the cheese & charcuterie board, which were perfect snacks. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Overall, good experience, though now that I no longer live or work in the neighborhood, doubt I'll be back any time soon. P.S. Bathrooms are still out in the hotel. read more

Great selection of wines and Irish whiskeys (Green Spot and Yellow Spot!) Wandering by, from the street it draws you in. Nabbed two armchairs and a table in the front windows. I've been here a couple of times so far. The first time, I sat outside and service was prompt. The second time, more recently, my friends and I sat by the hotel lobby and then made our way to the bar. The drinks are a little pricey, but this is Dupont, the bar is attached to a hotel, and the crowd is pretty swanky. I highly recommend their fresh baked cookies, whether you're there for food or drinks. Definitely a place to go when you want the expected Dupont / Midtown Washington "experience." The experience wont be exhausting and it is just loud enough to give the illusion of a scene. Grab a snack have a drink. Don't let my comment come off as disparaging; Bar Dupont is exactly what its name purports. A bar in Dupont! The burger I had was good! The service was excellent! This place has the best knowledgeable bartenders! We had the pleasure of being served by one of the bartenders who created "The Khalid" cocktail which was under the non-alcoholic menu. He was able to add alcohol in it and the result was amazing! I highly suggest you try that! We also tried a couple of others drinks made with Vodka and Gin that was fantastic! Reasonbly priced hh drinks, especially for a "swanky" bar. They have $6 cocktails from 4 to 6 PM. The drinks all sound yummy, but most recently, I found that the cocktails didn't have that much "depth" to them. Poutine here is pretty epic when you come in to break a fast. My friend looked at me very suspiciously as I was downing a dish he didn't think was from this planet. He was "very hungry" but ended up getting 2 drinks and no food. Wtf? I don't understand people anymore. Waiters here are very friendly but wtf when 5 of them including the manager come to take our orders. While on the one hand they did seem overly attentive to take care of us (perks of dressing in hobo chic in an suited up place), you wonder if it's really necessary that each one of them follows up on you ordering a glass of water. Bar Dupont is a problem! In honor of the retired DSM-IV, I've divided up some of the major problems with Bar Dupont into 5 axes: Axis I: Long wait time. My friend, who had ordered a duck slider, had to wait more than 45 minutes before he received his entree. Granted, the portion size for this entree was small. 30 minutes into the waiting process, my friend checked in with the waiter on his order, and the response we received had given us the impression that our order had been forgotten. I ordered a Waygu beef burger and had to wait more than 30 minutes before my entree arrived as well. As if this wasn't bad enough, it also took nearly 20 minutes before drinks were delivered to our table. I could've watched an entire episode of Grey's Anatomy before everything was set on the table! Axis II: Stale snacks. While waiting for our entrees, the waiter offered our table some basic snacks (standard protocol), which included an assortment of nuts and crunchy wasabi peas. If it hadn't been for the fact that I was hungry from waiting for food to arrive, I would not have even touched those snacks. The nuts were stale and tasted like they had lost their saltiness days ago. The wasabi peas were bland, and there was barely a hint of spiciness left. If it hadn't been for the fact that they were green colored, I would not have known that I was eating wasabi peas. Axis III: Burger badness. Although I had ordered a medium rare burger, I was surprised to find that the beef patty in my burger was overcooked, and beyond well done. Both sides of the beef patty were char-grilled black, and when I bit into it, the texture was rough, making it difficult to chew. The lettuce in the burger was not fresh, or cleaned well (I could've walked behind the restaurant and picked some leaves from a forest that were of better quality than the lettuce I was offered). When I returned my burger to the kitchen, I was offered a substitute burger, which was tolerable at most, but still had some major deficits (dry, flavorless, dirty lettuce again). The only redeemable quality of the burger was the delicious bacon. At this point, I was too hungry to care, so I pushed through the disappointment and ate the whole thing. Axis IV: Sucky Service. My number one pet peeve is poor customer service. If the waiters were even half as nice as the quality of the restaurant's beautiful image, I would have been pleased. This was certainly not the case tonight. My friends and I received a waitress who probably could not have cared less about whether or not we were enjoying our dining experience. She disappeared for long periods of time, never checked in on how we were doing at our table, and on a few occasions, we had to ask another waiter for basic assistance, including correcting an error on our check (we had been accidentally charged for an extra burger). Axis V: Dreadful drinks. Of course, you can't enjoy a bar without a good drinking experience. This was certainly not the case for anyone at our table. Our waitress informed us that the first several drinks on the menu were no longer available (some of my top choices were part of that category), which deterred me from ordering drinks for myself. The drinks were overall okay in quality (I sampled a few at the table), but when it takes nearly 20 minutes to get your drink, it's definitely not worth the wait. read more

DO NOT GO HERE! I wish I would have read the yelp reviews when my friend suggested this spot for happy hour. Their menu is super limited, and service is subpar at best. But my biggest issue is that while my tab ended up being $37 (including a generous tip), I checked my bank account later and they had charged me $65! Besides that being completely unacceptable, I was hung up on when I called to complain and ask for a refund. Now they won't even answer my calls and instantly hang up on me. This was the absolute worst customer service I've ever experienced, and it seems to have happened to many other reviewers as well. I had to call my bank and file a claim; the dining experience and the aftermath sucked and I would never tell anyone to go here. TDLR: Don't go here. They'll scam you and steal your money! read more

Are you the sort of person who says "Hey, Bitches!" to your girlfriends when you see them? Are you generally not mindful of others, especially when you drink? When you go out, do you like to feel like you are slightly cooler than other people because you are sitting on wicker furniture? If you answered yes to these questions, then Cafe Dupont might be right for you. Don't get me wrong: I've almost always enjoyed the food and service here, and breakfast, though it can feel austere, is generally very tasty. The interior lights are super cool. And I know there are plenty of nice people who use this as an evening watering hole. I've just had one too many conversations interrupted by a loud "F*CK YEAH" at the table next to me to keep going back. The last time my girlfriend and I tried this place someone pushed an errant cigarette butt into my suit as we walked to our table. We ended up crossing the street to Kramerbooks. Kramerbooks lacks the aforementioned wicker furniture and has fewer short skirts, but it has always felt more authentic to me. And I've never heard anyone use the word "bitch" there. read more

Bar Dupont has been my third space outside of the home and the office ever since I moved to DC last August. I love the upscale environment, the excellent service, the unlimited wifi, the Americanos, and the outdoor seating. The food's not half bad either. I recommend the winter salad, the chicken wrap, or the turkey club. I also discovered this ritzy little hotel bar is an excellent place to get work done! Especially during the morning and afternoon. Check out the room attached to the main bar area for tables with more outlet options. In the cooler months, the fireplace is a particularly nice touch :) However, BD gets pretty busy and loud starting 4:30-5PM because you get the afterwork/happy hour (3-6pm) crowd + loud top 40's radio music. Thus, I wouldn't recommend BD between 5-8, mostly because of the awful music, which makes the whole place seem generic. The best time to come is earlier when it's calm and quiet for a delicious americano (always served with a biscuit!), or late-night for a refreshing moscow mule (pick your poison!) accompanied by some classy downtempo or deep house music, which usually starts playing by 10pm. What I appreciate most about BD is that I never feel rushed or judged for sitting at a table, even if i'm there for several hours (before 4pm or after 9pm though, usually). The waiters are very attentive about topping off your water glass and will periodically stop by to politely ask if you need anything, but not in a demanding way. Perhaps because it's a hotel bar, where they expect traveling customers to linger throughout the day? I highly recommend Bar Dupont as one of my favorite metropolitan cafebars! It's my default place to get drinks when I'm in the mood to catch up with a friend or have a sophisticated evening out with the group. Fun spot for dinner or happy hour! My husband and I stopped by Bar Dupont for happy hour over the summer and enjoyed our drinks and the atmosphere. I really liked the large floor-to-ceiling windows because it made the restaurant more open and airy. I ordered the Bee's Knees, which was a sweet and syrupy and perfect cocktail (came with Barr Hill gin, lemon juice, and honey). My husband ordered the "Corpse Reviver," which came with tangueray gin, conintreau, and lillet blanc. He said that was good too. We also got some table accompaniments in the form of peanuts, roasted corn, and crispy wasabi peas. Very delicious! We didn't order any food, but we certainly would return. Watched Obama declare victory on a big screen TV at this bar on election night. Romney was in the bathroom throwing up and we know it wasn't because he drank too much. The crowd here is a little older than the usual college kids who have been drinking Obama kool aid for four years and are punch drunk socialists by now. This is a classy place, especially compared to the bars on the other side of the circle on Connecticut Ave. And they have very nice outdoor seating with heat lamps, so you can sit there on a chilly evening and laugh at shivering people walking by. The drinks aren't cheap but this is good since it scares away younger kids and paves the way for older guys like me to swagger around without looking too creepy to young hipsters. read more

RED LIGHT! My first and likely my last experience at Bar Dupont. Why, you ask? Because as a purveyor of mixology and bartender I found this place to have an air of pretension to a fault that was exacerbated by the action on the drinks. When I pay $11 to $15+ on a drink, I expect that drink to be good. At those prices, the bartenders and I have entered into a contract that they are going to make me a delicious, well-balanced cocktail that is right in all the subtle nuances of its presentation and tastability. The six of us did two rounds of cocktails that included: The Thyme Gimlet Hendricks Bees Knees Red Sangria The Dupon Imperial Bartenders Kiss Kettel Martini Extra Dirty Kettel Martini Kinda Dirty Bombay Dry Gin Martini (No dirt) The flavors were decent enough, especially on the Thyme Gimlet and Bees Knees; however, the Gimlet, which was my drink, was served to me just a degree below room temperature. This is blasphemous. Martinis are to be shaken the sh*t out of for nearly a minute and placed in a pre-chilled glass. For $11, you could at least attempt to cool the thing -- no such attempt was made. I followed it up with the Gin Martini. This one was even warmer than the Thyme Gimlet, a serious sin for a pure liquor cocktail. What's more, on that round of pure martinis, the extra dirty and kinda dirty were delivered as clear as my non-dirty (and equally as warm). According to the folks who had them, they didn't taste any olive in it at all and so informed the waitress who then assured them she would take care of it. So we're sitting there for a moment thinking, "okay, she has a bartender making a new drink," which was the way wrong assumption. She returns with a wine carafe filled with warm olive juice and proceeds to pour it into each of their cocktails to "very" and "kinda" dirty levels. $15 for these martinis. At this point I was mortified! Who does that!? It was enough for me to swallow my martini whole and push on to never return again. What a grip of unsavory pomps! read more

Bar Dupont is one of my favorite hangouts while in DC. On a Sunday afternoon, it can be a relaxing place to just have a glass of wine and watch the world go by. The bar is surrounded by windows and sits right on Dupont Circle, so the views are stellar. At night, the bar transforms into a sexy, glowing lair of all different kinds of people. I prefer to grab a table since the bar area can get rather crowded, but any seat is a good seat once the place gets packed. The bar snacks are great. Wasabi peas, corn nuts and mixed nuts are just the perfect little nibbles alongside a stiff cocktail. Said drinks are fantastic, but they don't come cheap. Consider yourself warned. Service is the one flaw I see with the place. Sometimes it's very good, other times you get the B team. I've also never eaten there so I can't speak for the food, although from what I've seen I think classics like sandwiches and fries (they offer poutine two or three ways) are the way to go. Breakfast / brunch here is amazing. The cafe is very cute and there is a lot of open space with tons of light. SALMON BENEDICT This was the dish I got and it was very very good. The sauce is delicious and light. It looked good in the picture, and the taste confirmed the yummy picture. OATMEAL MUESLI This is a great breakfast dish to get if you want something comforting and simple. My friend got this before ordering another dish and I'm really glad he did. It comforted my travel stomach so that I could eat more yummy things! WAFFLE with FRUITS This waffle is amazing. It was fluffy and the fruit was so fresh. I would definitely get this again. P.S. For happy hour drinks, I usually assume I'm getting some questionable gin from a plastic bottle, but I believe they were using Tanqueray in their happy hour martinis.
