DESERVES ZERO STARS! I'm renovating a bathroom and setting up new laundry room in my house in…read moreSheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. I shared approved Dept of Buildings plans and supervisor came out for a walk-through and verbally quoted me $20,000, saying as he left he'd write the detailed proposal based on his $20,000 verbal quote. However, when he emailed his proposal the price shot up 92.3% to $38,460.00! I emailed back to get justification, but never received a response to the exorbitant markup from the verbalized quote at my house. I wanted to know why Harris would not honor the $20,00 I was quoted during the site visit? I have been a repeat client of this business paying $1000s at each of their visits to do my plumbing work, and was told that because of this fact, I'd get a slight discount on my renovation proposal for the plumbing aspect. But a 92.3% markup from original quote of $20,000 is extortion, fraud and just bad business practice to say the very least! I found out also that they don't come out and tell you that they charge a discharge/service fee to come out, but $150/per hour of travel time is quietly--not disclosed to customer--added to their bills, yet never disclosed to you upfront. They were coming from the office location in Brownsville and I'm all the way down south on Avenue Z in Sheepshead Bay and they must take the side streets to get to me because commercial vehicles are not permitted on the Belt Parkway. I will stop being a repeat loyal customer to Harris Plumbing and Heating and will not refer them to anyone else ever again. I'll be reporting them to the Better Business Bureau also. Good riddance Harris Plumbing and Heating!

After dealing with two other plumbers who don't return calls, show up late or not at all, etc. it was so refreshing to work with someone reliable. He provided a fair quote to switch out a bathroom vanity sink with a new one I'd purchased after looking at pictures of my existing plumbing and the new pedestal I needed installed. Note that his quotes are set for a job including materials, not the usual time + materials situation you see with most contractors. Again, he knows what he's doing and the transparency is a breath of fresh air. The morning of our appointment he showed up 20 minutes early, focused on finishing the work, got it done within the expected window (this included a quick run to Home Depot for supplies), and left the bathroom looking tidy. Robert was polite and answered questions about other work I might need to have done in the future - I wouldn't hesitate to call him again for those projects. While it wasn't included in my initial quote, he was kind enough to call helpers to bring the old sink down the stairs of my walkup building. Thanks for a job well done!

We hired A Real Good Plumber (Paul Shay) in July 2026 under a signed $4,000 contract to restore gas…read moreservice to our three-family building in the Bronx - a building sitting without gas, with tenants displaced. The signed contract required a $2,000 "startup payment," which we paid, and included filing the required LAA with the NYC Dept. of Buildings, which he confirmed in writing would be filed within five business days. Twenty-nine days later, the LAA was never filed. Instead, after a site visit, he sent new contracts nearly tripling the price - then claimed the new price was "in addition to" the signed contract, and finally claimed our $2,000 startup payment was actually a "site visit fee," something that appears nowhere in any document he wrote. We terminated for non-performance and demanded the refund; as of this review it has not been returned. Every claim in this review is supported by the signed contract, payment records, and his own emails. 2023 is the year I start writing reviews for exceptional services! Cronin Plumbing and Heating is…read morethe first one that I wanted to write about. Long story short, these guys are professional, organized, and act with urgency. For me, I reached out because the gas boiler for my baseboard heating died and the pilot light no longer lit up. I asked for a referral from my home inspector and that's how I heard of these guys. Initially, I thought that I just needed to replace the thermocouple, so I called Cronin for a price quote. Nick picked up the phone and asked for some photos to help confirm my assessment and so that they could provide an accurate price quote for parts and labor. Sadly, for me, when Pat showed up the next day, he discovered that the thermocoupler was the least of my worries. The boiler showed signs of roll out, where flames, soot, and possibly carbon monoxide was reverse flowing into the apartment instead of the exhaust vent. The safety controls on the system had triggered and stopped the gas from flowing for combustion. This unit was primed to be a fire hazard if it were to continue to be operational. Pat explained to me what the issues were and laid out two options - waste a lot of money and time finding someone who can service the current unit and power wash the insides, which itself would costs several thousand dollars, or replace the entire thing and have a new furnace with 20 yr warranty. I chose to replace. The team then left the site to find parts and to price out an estimate. Pat personally gave me a call about an hour and a half later to touch base, confirming availability of materials and also gave me the overall cost. He then had Nick generate a work order for me to approve and we clarified a couple of items, the team went about sourcing all the material that they needed. Payments are made in three tiers, 60% upfront for material acquisition, 35% after the work is done for the labor, and the final 5% after permits and inspections are completed. Once I approved, Nick called me the next day to let me know that they had some people available to come over to take apart and remove the gas boiler to prep the site for installation. This was done super efficiently and the crew was awesome. The crust and debris from the old system was vacuumed up and the pipes were drained - everything was ready for installation day. Installation day started early - the crew arrived at 8:30 and proceeded to get to work. They brought in a work table and a step ladder along with a bunch of gear needed to fabricate the ductwork and the piping for the new system. Because of the tiny closet that this system needed to fit into, they made sure to measure and measure before finalizing the installation spot and hooking everything up. Six guys rotated in and out of my apartment bringing stuff in, hauling stuff out, going to Home Depot for supplies, etc. It took them until about 4:30 to wrap up and give me a final walkthrough, which was thorough and detailed. The new piping is immaculate and they made sure the structure was set up so that maintenance on the system could be done without the need to take the whole system apart. This is top grade work that is worth every penny you spend. Highly, highly recommend.
