I've been here a few times and it is WAY better than a regular liquor store. The selection is impressive and the staff are fairly knowledgeable and helpful. Today I came in with a vague request for a great Japanese whiskey for a guest I'll soon be entertaining and they directed me to a fairly rare Yamazaki single malt 12-year which will be perfect. The prices are much better than an average liquor store, but still tend to be a bit more than Costco, Safeway, or even Whole Foods. But those places have a much smaller selection and basically none of the expertise. And, except for Whole Foods, they aren't in the same downtown area. read more

AMAZING selection of local handcrafted beers, local spirits and local wines. Easy to park in their private lot for free, which is an awesome bonus for a downtown location like this store. The way that they have everything is organized exactly to perfection. The tasting room downstairs is one of my favorites and the owners are extremely kind. I will be coming here from now on when I need any kind of alcohol. I don't mind the extra trip to support a great business. Convenience vs good business? I'll pass on the conveniencve and come here. Friendly staff, Great selection of spirits, and regular free tastings (the Heaven Hill whiskey tasting I did was fun, and I bought a bottle of the Elijah Craig Barrel Proof that they would not have otherwise had). Being able to make your own six-pack is a nice touch, especially with the selection of beer available. Really the main issue is that there are a couple of spirits which are fairly expensive as a base price, then with all the Seattle taxes being added on, make it far too pricey. Most of their selection is pretty reasonable (well, reasonable for Seattle), it's just a couple of bottles that are the worst (I'm looking at you Wellers). read more

Since our first visit here for a Yelp event in March, the boy and I have become regulars at this great little liquor store. They have a HUGE selection of wines and beers-- I never really look at the liquor here because I spend way too much time perusing the shelves downstairs where the growler and wine tasting stations are and an incredibly knowledgeable staff that can point you in any direction you need to fill your every desire. I'm here on almost a weekly basis for their Friday evening wine tastings, the perfect way to unwind after a long work week. You get to talk to their wine expert(s), try something new, and learn new facts. The best part is that it's free and they often offer a discount on the featured wines of the evening if you do the tasting. I've never left this store empty-handed and, as a result, have accumulated a somewhat impressive (albeit still small) collection of cool beers and wines. Everybody in the store is incredibly helpful and friendly and I never feel intimidated to ask for help in picking out a bottle. They also send out a (mostly) weekly email newsletter outlining their upcoming tastings and events as well as an update to their beer inventory which is great if you're waiting for a fun, seasonal brew. I cannot stress enough how great this shop is. I never thought I'd be proud to be a regular at a liquor store, but I love this place. read more

Totally incompetent. I spent 10 phone calls talking to one unknowledgeable employee after another. After the first, they told me the spirit I wanted would come in the following day. Another phone call. It didn't. Then after 6 more they said it would come in over the weekend. It didn't. Another call and another unknowledgeable employee told me they would never stock that liquor. Seriously delicious! We had the chicken doner and I asked for it on a bed of rice instead which was out of this world! The service was amazing everyone was super friendly! We had a Turkish coffee which was traditional and authentic as well as a Turkish latte and a baklava! I am sure the Turkish delight are amazing since everyone was ordering them! read more

Stopped into Downtown Spirits to buy a friend a bottle of bourbon as a thank you gift for letting me stay with him while I get set up in Seattle. Based on Yelp reviews I decided to browse the beer aisle, not intending to buy anything. Within minutes, the friendly staff welcomed me to Seattle, placed a pint glass full of free swag in my hand, introduced me to a couple of local beers, and got me up to speed about beer week festivities. Looking forward to exploring local beer with the help of Downtown Spirits as I settle into my new digs. And the bourbon selection was top notch as well. read more

Ok... The staff is nice, the girl who I think is an owner went out of her way to help me and make me feel welcome. However... The prices here are out of control. I quit shopping here after I saw the same bottles of scotch and bourbon nearly half the price elsewhere. Lagavulin 16 $139??? It's $75 at bevmo, Ardberg 10 $79.99??? It's $46 at bevmo, I saw a William larue weller in here for $200! C'mon, this isn't ebay...that should sell for $75-100 max at a liquor store. No thanks, I'll shop elsewhere. read more

We are from California, and first time visitors to Seattle. I'm a beer fanatic, and we were looking for beer from the local breweries. We searched for liquor stores, and this place came up. They have a huge back room of beer and wine!! Great selection of beer, especially for out-of-towners looking for new stuff! I started grabbing bottle after bottle to bring home to CA, and then realized we had to carry all the bottles back to the hotel (since we walked 2 miles to the store). Caitlyn asked if we needed help, and she went to go find bubble wrap so we could transport it safely. She even looked on her phone for places that sold bubble wrap, in case we needed more!! :-) But once she found out we were going to have to carry all these bottles (9 or 10) back to the hotel, she offered to drop them off at the hotel after she was off work. I've been to plenty of liquor stores in the bay area, and not ONE has ever offered to deliver it somewhere. We were out-of-towners, and she still went out of her way to help us, and ensure we had a great experience. She was very nice, and obviously, very helpful. The next time I'm there, I will definitely be going back. So whether you are a local, or just visiting, you need to stop by Downtown Spirits. They have a great selection of beer, wine, and pretty much any spirit you can think of. Caitlyn is incredibly helpful and nice. I came across this place's website while searching for some Laphroig scotch, which i had been having a hard time locating in the Seattle area.Their selection was pretty decent in terms of single malts (they had about 2-3 different years of several renowned distilleries (Balvenie, Macallan, Glenfiddich, etc.) ranging from about $60 to 150-200. The Laphroig 10 was listed at $99 a bottle, which is on the high end, so i ended up ordering it from some other place. But they also carried a MacAllan 12 that caught my eye for $59. So I decided to pay them a visit this morning (Sunday 9/9/12 around 10:30). They were very easy to locate with their huge "LIQUOR AND WINE NOW OPEN" sign, and there was plenty of street parking. I asked for the macallan and the very nice lady at the register directed me to the whiskey section. Pretty much all the bottles listed online appeared to be available on the shelves. I picked up my macallan and proceeded to checkout. One nice thing is that the sticker price includes all applicable taxes, so it's exactly what you end up paying at checkout. Also, as I mentioned above, the lady was really nice (I didn't get her name, but she appeared to be an owner). We chatted a little and she mentioned that they had just opened the store a week before. I let her know that I was quite impressed by their nice little selection of scotches. She said that they were in the process of getting more, and that they are happy to special order what's not on the shelves. So, to recap, I was very pleased with my shopping experience for the following reasons: relatively decent price for my bottle, nice scotch selection, pleasant staff, easy to find and park (on a Sunday morning). If you'd like to give it a try, my suggestion is probably to check their inventory online first to get an idea of their inventory and prices. And again, the owners appear to be very approachable (definitely not wine/liquor snobs), so calling or emailing ahead will probably make your shopping experience easier. read more
