We just received our turkey clubs after having waited a full 45 mins!!! They're tasty enough but not worth the time it took to get them. The young woman who served us was very nice. The problem for us and the rest of our fellow diners was that there was a party of about 15 West Point cadets in a separate room and the staff was just overwhelmed. We would have loved to have visited when they were not so overburdened.

Driving in you see that brick facade but walking inside is like tearing a page from the 1955 calendar. This place is history come alive. Welcome to one of the original Silk City diners, manufactured in Paterson, NJ from 1926-1966. As the brass plaque above the door attests, this was the 41st diner they built in 1955. And it has all the appearance of the day they toted it down Route 17 (how they got it under the bridge is a mystery). And here's the thing: not only is the building the real deal. So is the menu. I was tempted to try the meatloat, but opted for a burger. My wife took the owner, Jan, up on the roasted turkey sandwich ("You want that run through the garden?" "Run what, through where?" "Do you want it with lettuce, tomato and onion?"). Both were fresh and fabulous, and the service was quick. Best of all was meeting Jan and chatting with her about family and the history of the place. The Robin Hood Diner is a treasure, a focal point where friends and neighbors and visitors will all feel at home. We came back the next day for the annual car show, a memorial tribute to Jan's late son, Christopher. In between the 'Vettes and the Mustangs and all the friendly faces, we picked up a fresh-baked apple pie. The ride home was going to be a long one, and we don't have a Robin Hood Diner near us!

In fact, our waitress was very much how you would envision a "diner waitress" in that she was older, had her hair in a bun, and she seemed mildly annoyed, ha. She was sweet, though. Anyway, the coffee was fantastic, and my egg white vegetable omelet was perfection. It was cooked through, as I had asked, and was not even the slightest bit oily. The vegetables were also very fresh. The accompanying potatoes, however, were bland and undercooked. In addition, the whole wheat toast clearly used processed, packaged bread.
