They offered sweet morning pastries, there was a selection of cakes and desserts to bring back to our accommodations for later, and they offered a cooked breakfast and lunch (and brunch!) menu. The coffee was great, and we took some beans home. If you live locally, I read that they also offer free used coffee grinds to take home to your garden. My favorite part of the cafe, is that the donut flavors rotate, making things very interesting. I absolutely loved my little lemon poppyseed donut, but when the warm cinnamon sugar ones came right out of the oven, they absolutely stole the show. The burger for lunch was delightful, and the quiche was quite lovely as well. Highly recommend stopping in, no matter the occasion you will leave feeling refreshed with a wonderful bite to eat.

Place itself is small and kinda no frills but that's part of the charm honestly. It's the type of local spot you wish was in your own neighborhood. We ended up going back the next morning before we drove home lol. If your anywhere near Monticello just do yourself a favor and go. You wont regret it.

The Windham Local has a parking lot off to the side, but there was ample street parking too. And a shop proprietor later told us that The Windham Local is her place to eat in town!

When we got there on a Thursday around 2, the dining room had about 4 people there. There was also a bright outdoor seating area which looked great. Basically, this restaurant is set up to be a good experience -- except for the food. I had the falafel platter (almost $19). My husband had the gyro platter (an eye-popping $25!). My hubby shared his Greek salad and bread. A-OK so far, but then things went down hill. My falafel was mushy and flavorless. The side of babaganoush was also flavorless. The pita was cold. The side of steamed veggies was bland. No sauce, no seasonings. I felt sorry for locals who think this food is actually falafel. They need to taste REAL falafel because this was a poor imitation. The gyro plate came with plain rice and more steamed veggies. Sorry to use the word "bland" again. We got the salmon pasta to go ($34) for a friend which came with more steamed veggies. I get the feeling they steam a huge pot of veggies and just put it on every plate. The menu is pretty simple. The same things in different rearranged order. I get the feeling the "chef" is staying away from more complicated dishes. It's probably for the best, because as simple as the food is, it's still below par. I'm a Greek American. You look at that crumpled bag on the console and see the chips are now down to crumbs, and you think, Man I gotta stop. Well, we kept going. And good thing. We found the Robin Hood Diner when we got off the highway at our destination, and were we ever pleased. Driving in you see that brick facade but walking inside is like tearing a page from the 1955 calendar. This place is history come alive. Welcome to one of the original Silk City diners, manufactured in Paterson, NJ from 1926-1966. As the brass plaque above the door attests, this was the 41st diner they built in 1955. And it has all the appearance of the day they toted it down Route 17 (how they got it under the bridge is a mystery). And here's the thing: not only is the building the real deal. So is the menu. I was tempted to try the meatloat, but opted for a burger. My wife took the owner, Jan, up on the roasted turkey sandwich ("You want that run through the garden?" "Run what, through where?" "Do you want it with lettuce, tomato and onion?"). Both were fresh and fabulous, and the service was quick. Best of all was meeting Jan and chatting with her about family and the history of the place. The Robin Hood Diner is a treasure, a focal point where friends and neighbors and visitors will all feel at home. We came back the next day for the annual car show, a memorial tribute to Jan's late son, Christopher. In between the 'Vettes and the Mustangs and all the friendly faces, we picked up a fresh-baked apple pie. The ride home was going to be a long one, and we don't have a Robin Hood Diner near us!
