Welcome to one of the original Silk City diners, manufactured in Paterson, NJ from 1926-1966. As the brass plaque above the door attests, this was the 41st diner they built in 1955. And it has all the appearance of the day they toted it down Route 17 (how they got it under the bridge is a mystery). And here's the thing: not only is the building the real deal. So is the menu. I was tempted to try the meatloat, but opted for a burger. My wife took the owner, Jan, up on the roasted turkey sandwich ("You want that run through the garden?" "Run what, through where?" "Do you want it with lettuce, tomato and onion?"). Both were fresh and fabulous, and the service was quick. Best of all was meeting Jan and chatting with her about family and the history of the place. The Robin Hood Diner is a treasure, a focal point where friends and neighbors and visitors will all feel at home. We came back the next day for the annual car show, a memorial tribute to Jan's late son, Christopher.
