We ordered the blueberry double-stacked pancakes (which the waitress sweetly put a smiley face on), a side of bacon, and a few omelettes- with bacon and cheese and another with sausage. Both came with home fries. Everything was hot, filling, and exactly what you want from a classic diner breakfast. The bacon was a standout! crispy and delicious (had to order an extra side). Tilly's is the one stop shop diner you need off the side of a freeway. Once you enter through the door and you set foot onto the restaurant you're immediately taken back a few decades - and I mean that with my greatest respect. When you're here you know what you're going to get out of the establishment. We were given seats at the bar promptly, we were served water early and were asked for our orders at a timely manner. Everyone behind the counter was helpful to us. As I admired their work it was easy to see how Tilly's has remained a local favorite. The continuous boots on the ground - foot traffic of bussing tables, serving food, taking orders - was all calculated chaos. At the heart of it all was the food that came at a reasonable time and the conversations you had with local neighbors and customers who sat near you. Arrived on Memorial Day for breakfast with my partner. Walked inside, was told to leave and stand in the vestibule (very rudely, no instructions were written anywhere telling patrons what thy should do). After a few minutes, a hostess came out and invited us to sit at a table. We sat down and for over 25 minutes, nobody came to our table to initiate waiting us. The last straw was the hostess who got us from the vestibule walked by our table, looked at us, and continued to ignore us. Just a surreal experience. read more

My husband and I were going on a spontaneous outing and staying at the Hilton hotel just down the road, as we left central Massachusetts at 3 in the morning. As we were given many positive reviews of Tilly's for breakfast so we made sure to get to Monticello at 7 A.M. and were seated promptly when we arrived. It was pretty crowded but we found a nice booth by the window in view of the parking lot with the sun coming up. The waitress was so friendly and upbeat and their menu selection was that of any typical diner, so I ordered an omelette and hashbrowns with wheat toast. Their toast was slightly dry, but overall the omelette had tons of flavor and the hash browns were nicely seasoned. We only stayed in Monticello for 1 night, so getting a hearty breakfast in was what we needed and overall, Tilly's is a thumbs up from this Bay stater. We will return on our next trip! read more

There is such a 1950's style vibe when you walk in the doorway. Service was great, got treated immediately. The prices are reasonable and the menu is huge! I went with the breakfast option. The home fries were solid, I haven't had them cooked home styley in some time, they had an authentic greasy spoon taste to them! The pancakes were fluffy goodness and the coffee was okay. I ate here twice more during my trip, and they were both very good. The first time, from the specials menu, I had "Lomo Saltado." a beef stirfry with both rice and french fries. You don't eat the french fries separately, you eat them as part of the whole Dish. It is a Peruvian/Chinese fusion dish. There is actually a large Chinese population in Peru. The cuisine actually has a name. It's called "Chifa ." it was very good. It came with a green sauce that went perfectly with the Dish. It had just a tiny bit of heat to it, and a very complex flavor. The rice was done right, the french fries were very good, the beef was a little bit chewy, but still absolutely delicious, and not all of the onions were cooked all the way through, but again, still good. Those were just minor things. The Dish was overall, very good. I had enough to take Home for a second meal. It also came with a chocolate pudding with whipped cream. That was also very good. The Next time I came in, I wanted to order the Lomo Saltado again, but unfortunately, it was no longer on the specials menu. Instead, I had the lobster ravioli. The ravioli were huge and tender, there was plenty of delicious lobster on the inside, and the creamy tomato sauce on top was just absolutely first rate. The food at Tilly's was good but the customer service truly set them apart. While dining with my husband and 2 young children, a group of seemingly intoxicated women sat down to eat and proceeded to yell and cackle at the most obnoxiously loud volume imaginable. After a table complained about the volume, the older women with the group got up and began screaming and cursing at the family. The waiter promptly informed the women's that they would have to leave and take their food to go and apologized to the people seated nearby. After seeing how well they take care of their customers we will definitely come back. read more

We stopped here for breakfast after checking out f Resorts Casino. It was a nice surprise. The place is clean and friendly and welcoming. Not impersonal like so many diners can be. Service was good. There were lots of choices for breakfast and lunch, all pretty reasonably priced. We generally avoid diners because so many seem to just use prepared food service product which they fry or just heat up, and don't actually make themselves. Being from Long Island, there is no shortage of diners. We came to the Catskills for a 3 day getaway. Tilly's diner was one of the best highlights of our trip. We were staying at Resorts World but wanted to explore the area. This diner makes everything from scratch and has a great classic old diner feel. The servers were very friendly, the prices were great and quantity/quality of food is amazing. We ended up coming to Tilly's 3 times over 3 days rather than eating at Resorts World. We went to Kartrite for a family trip weekend getaway. We roll deep! 20 of us including kids. We wanted to have a good dinner at a place that was going to be able to accommodate all of us and that wasn't too far away. Well Tilly's fit the bill! We called ahead and they set up a table for us in the back room. They were sooo attentive! Our drinks never went empty. The food was delicious! Coming from Long Island and Queens, we know a good diner and this was a GREAT diner. Everyone was very happy with their orders and the dessert was top notch homemade deliciousness! Arrived for a late breakfast on a recent Sunday morning at around 11:30pm and we were pleasantly surprised at how big the diner was. Not only was there the interior where the entrance was, but there was also a back room as well. The diner had a local feel to it and it seemed that most of the patrons there were local, so when a couple of city slickers like us walked in, a few eyes peered our way. Throughout our meal, the service was fantastic. We did not get our waitress' name, but she was as friendly as they came. From the moment we sat down in the back room, she was cordial. She was probably one of the most friendly waiters/waitresses we had ever encountered, constantly checking on how we were doing and updating us on when our food would arrive. It was a very comforting feeling. The menu for the diner was pretty typical of local diners. Typical breakfast items listed on the back and lunch/dinner items scattered throughout the interior of the menu. One thing that really stood out was the pricing. We were surprised at how reasonable the breakfast items, with most of the items listed at less than $10. I ended up with the Homemade Corned Beef Hash and Eggs, which came with toast, and ordered a side of the sausage links. My other half ordered the Mexican omelette with a side of short stake Blueberry Pancakes. Everything was good, but we didn't have high expectations coming in. The corned beef hash, eggs and Omelette could have used a bit more salt though, but sometimes less salt can be a good thing. The sausage links were solid, but only included 3 small links. We were definitely expecting larger links. The Blueberry Pancakes were our fave, by far. There was a ton of blueberries spread inside, in whole pieces. They definitely did not skimp on that. I love diners! But many fall into fast-food mediocrity, buying pre-made items and relying on the freezer and cans. But not Tilly's! What a find. Quality food, made in-house, from scratch. Pretty large diner, with plenty of tables and booths. Busy at peak meal times (a lot of locals). Clean and pleasant with a rather Elvis-y decor -- items and decorations from the era of Elvis and Marilyn. In particular, check out the curtains, an amusing Elvis-themed pattern. Oh, and the garish Elvis head near the cash register. I had a diner favorite, something I am reluctant to order because few places get it right: a hot open faced roast beef or turkey sandwich. So many places use deli meat and canned gravy but at Tilly's, it's real and house made, as are the mashed potatoes. They roast the meats in-house. I also tasted my friend's french fries, and they tasted like actual potatoes. Excellent. The cole slaw was crunchy and tasted like cabbage. It tasted like it was made that day. The surprise hit was a Tilly's specialty: A roast beef au jus sandwich on garlic bread (!) with Munster cheese (!!). Weird combination but damn, it works! Served on a nicely crisped garlic bread (a roll, actually), with their house-made roast beef and a savory au jus. The dipped bread retains a bit of the crispiness for a satisfying bite, full of flavor. The bill was surprising, too -- Tilly's is well-priced for their level of quality. Also pleased with the extremely helpful and friendly wait staff. Efficient and courteous, they seemed to like working here. If you're in the Catskills, maybe at Resort Worlds, make the trip to Tilly's! Worth it. read more
