Nice location, average experience!! I visited Riverside Cafe & Lodge mainly for the setting, and the riverside view was definitely the highlight. It's a peaceful spot and a nice place to relax, especially if you enjoy outdoor seating. The food was okay overall--some items were enjoyable, while others felt fairly basic and could use more flavor. Service was friendly, though a bit slow at times, especially when the place got busy. Overall, Riverside Cafe & Lodge is a decent stop if you're nearby and want to enjoy the scenery. With more consistency in food quality and faster service, it could be much better. read more

A reason to celebrate Have driven by many times and cant believe we never stopped. We started with salad (generous portion for two) and the Burrata and Heirloom tomatoes which were amazing. My wife had the NY strip steak which was cooked perfectly (medium) and delicious. I had the fresh trout which fell off of the bones and was served over rice. We finished with Bread Pudding (cognac sauce) and Pecan/Turtle pie. Took leftovers from both home to enjoy again later. A must stop! read more

Cabin: We stayed in cabin 6 for 2 nights. The cabin is located 15 feet from the river. While we enjoyed our stay there were a few niggles. The door has a large window but no curtains or blinds. One of the large windows has no blinds either. With other guests roaming around privacy was difficult. The TV sound couldn't be controlled and was extremely low. Closed caption only. This place is dog friendly, watch where you step! Restaurant: 5 stars food good, service good, price's high. Surcharge on credit cards excessive. read more

We have been here numerous times over the past few years. The wait staff is very attentive and the windows looking over the water is relaxing. The fresh baked bread is fabulous. Driving here from my mom's she kept thinking we were going the wrong way since we went a different way then we'd normally go to Roscoe. What a cute place, we basically had the dining area to ourselves except it would've been cooler to sit by the river, that room but we showed up with no reservations for a ton of us so we were happy we could just sit down anyway. My pasta was amazing, place was really quaint. I'd definitely come back here and highly recommend them. Even the salad was delicious and lots of places tend to somehow mess that up but not this place. I wish I took more pictures. read more

Our sheets were dirty. Muddy boot tracks on the floor. Sticky bathroom. The doorway to our room was covered in spider webs with so many spiders it was like a scene from a scary movie (wolf spiders). The room smelt wet and moldy. Winter bedding on the beds in July with 90 degree weather. Multiple spiders in the room too. It was the only place we could stay because everywhere was booked. Let's start with the food: Dry and gamey shake & baked rack of lamb. I asked for it medium rare; mostly grey with a touch of pink is not medium rare. My girlfriend ordered shrimp scampi, which came with a lot of undercooked penne and a disproportionately low amount of shrimp to pasta. Very mushy bread and crab cakes. Not worth the price. I think they should focus on creating a solid, consistent menu before thinking about trying to do specials. There was absolutely nothing special about the food here. Let's talk about the ambience: I thought the place was decently decorated. It's nice being next to the River as the name implies. Finally, the service: The waitress did her best to remember the specials and was nice enough, but the staff was a tad slow overall. If you're looking for a good spot to eat or stay, I'd recommend basically anywhere else in Roscoe or Livingston Manor. OH MY!!! the ambiance, the other patrons, our server Brenda AND the fabulous delicious food!! My stuffed trout was cooked PERFECTLY! My husband and son enjoyed their pork tenderloin, and our friend ate the most amazing stuffed Pork chops I have ever seen. The loaves of bread were served warm and if you wanted a second loaf it was placed on your table in a minute. Every table in the house looked as if they were enjoying their evening as well, lots of laughter and smile everywhere i looked! Dessert was fresh homemade Rum cake with peaches and whipped cream. others had peach cheesecake they said was delicious. Brenda took excellent care of our table even as she juggled a party of 30 in addition to us and 5 other tables and she was never rattled but pleasant and attentive to everything we could have wanted. Had a very nice dinner with work colleagues here recently. Honestly, I could have made a meal out of that ridiculously delicious, hot and crusty bread that they serve. Just give me that with a salad and I'm set!! But I did order the stuffed trout as per a solid recommendation and it was very good. The rice and veggies were nice companions to the trout and I left nothing to the imagination on my plate. Thumbs up on the Ribeye, Schnitzel and the Salmon. Was looking for a great place to have some fresh Beaverkill trout... and boy, did I find it! Nestled next to a Sunoco station just off Rte 17 (actually In Horton, though address is Roscoe..) this charming little restaurant overlooking the Beaverkill packs a culinary punch! I had the stuffed trout... and I did my best to finish every bite til I was stuffed! Unfortunately, they stop serving trout Columbus Day weekend, but there's plenty more on the menu helmed by a CIA trained chef. The dining room overlooks the River, but we opted to sit at the convivial bar and made some new friends! Right on the way to visit our son in Binghamton... what a find. read more

I have been here several times over the past several years. It is always our go to when we are in the area and want a good meal out. Honestly, not many choices to do that in this part of the world but, thankfully, this place is freaking fantastic. It's beautiful there along the beaverkill and the staff is on point but the food is simply delicious. Very diverse menu with several specials. I usually get a special. I love that they give you a fresh family style salad to pass around. The bread is baked on site and you never know what flavor it will be but it's always delicious Past weekend I had a bone in grilled veal chop. OMG!!. About 1.5 " think and cooked to a perfect medium. I have been staying and eating at the Riverside Cafe since I started flyfishing in 2013. I've eatien from the bar menu and the dining room menue, the food is spectacular !! Tammy the owner and chef is a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and it shows. Tammy's mother is the baker of desserts and she deserves a masters degree too ! The Riverside has catered our club barb b que's, the food and service is great ! The restuarant dining has a great view over looking the river. The bar area has that hunting/ fishing lodge atmosphere you would expect. The bartenders know how to make a drink the way you want it. All the staff at the Riverside are courteous, friendly and helpful. The accomodations, cabins and rooms are extremely neat and clean. I 've seen Tammy helping out the statff occasionally. Riverside Cafe & Lounge was the middle point between my immediate family and my grandparents, who we haven't been able to see since COVID-19 started. We didn't think that any restaurant would be able to provide outdoor seating, let alone outdoor seating that would allow our two groups to remain safely distanced--let alone a restaurant that would fulfill these requirements around Roscoe. Riverside Cafe & Lounge blew us away by checking all these boxes while allowing us to admire the waters, mountains, and greenery of the Catskills mountains. We reunited, tearfully and safely--then the food arrived. The four stars currently ascribed to this restaurant does not adequately reflect the dishes we were presented with. The staff were excellent and friendly, and one of them mentioned that the head chef who prepared our meals was a student of the Culinary Institute of America. She did an exquisite job, thus we were not surprised by her credentials. As a health-conscious vegetarian, the eggplant parmigiana was delicately layered and portioned modestly as to not make me feel gross upon first glance. The drink selection was also incredible (I recommend the ginger hard cider). Overall, Riverside Cafe & Lounge provided us a bastion of beauty, safety, and 5-star sustenance that we would never have suspected from such a small town. Stopped here for dinner on a Friday night with a group of 5. Definitely recommend a reservation or getting there early. We got there a few minutes before they opened and got a great table looking out at the water. We then heard that all other waterfront views were reserved so we definitely got lucky! We all ordered entrees which came with bread and salad. The salad was family style and they gladly gave us a refill and our choice of dressing. The bread was incredible. Fresh baked and very flavorful. They also kindly gave us a refill of bread. They also serve local beers so we were excited to get our favorite beer from Upward (Golden Ratio). The wine pour was also VERY generous. The entrees were all incredible. We got the sweet corn risotto with shrimp, penne pasta with shrimp (spicy), risotto with mushrooms and beef tips, and trout. Everyone was very happy with the flavor as well as the very large portions. The waitress was also incredibly kind and helpful. We will absolutely be back! read more

What a completely unexpected find! We did zero research and decided to check this out based solely on a generic sign on the highway. The inside is a little dark and we say outside with our two dogs which was fine with them (staff not dogs). The view of the river was really nice and relaxing. We started with a special flatbread with goat cheese and fig...can't think of the word, maybe a syrup? There was supposed to be prosciutto too but they put it on the side for us since only one of us eats that. A great big salad to share came out too which must have come with the entrees. We had shrimp scampi which was definitely good, but the standout entree was a special, pistachio encrusted halibut. I didn't ask about what it came with and assumed there'd be some sort of vegetable and/or potato. To my initial shock, the fish was on top of mashed potatoes and surrounded by a sea of cooked blueberries!?! I'm sure there's a way to describe it better than cooked blueberries but check the photo to see what I mean. I was so confused and initially thought it would be terrible but I was SO wrong and as I ate ALL of it, it made so much sense. The semi tartness of the blueberries with the richness of the potato and then the fish with the pistachios - it may not sound good but I swear it was all the textures and flavors your mouth could ask for. It was crazy delicious and I am not someone who just loves everything and I could not have been more surprised. We will definitely be back but on purpose. read more

Terrible service. This place didn't great us and did not seem the least bit interested in hosting a group of 7 adults and 2 kids. Just bad vibes all around. The prices were over priced from what we saw. When we asked if we could sit along the window overlooking the river (because we came for the view) they said no. The restaurant was practically empty during prime dinner time in the middle of the week. They were reserving the tables in case anyone else came in.... BS. It was a last straw. We said thank you and left. Save yourself the frustration and head over to Rockland house. Way better :) read more

We stopped on our way home down 17. From the reviews we thought this place was going to be great, sorry to say we were disappointed by the service. Our waitress forgot multiple items, was very slow, never checked on us during our dinner and there wasn't a kids menu. It even took them about 10-15 minutes for them to seat us (it wasn't even busy). There was dog hair (yes, dog hair from the dog in the kitchen) in my salad. I will definitely not be going back! The only reason they are getting a 2 star was that the bus boy was very nice and did more than the waitress. read more

We needed a place to stay while visiting family and ended up here. It was clean and reminded me of an old school motel- but again it was clean, fresh linens and the air conditioner worked. The view of the river behind was a treat. They have a restaurant and bar on site. We sat at the bar and had a drink and homemade pie - the food was really good and the service to couldn't beat. The only reason why I give the Riverside 4/5 stars is because I only went there once... but I DEFINITELY PLAN ON RETURNING! I had the whole trout over rice pilaf and it was delicious! (It's the dish in the photo . ) I had dinner with a friend ( who had shrimp scampi)and we enjoyed the family style salad and bread before our dinner. We had 2 drinks and a coffee and the bill was $63! We did not have reservations and but got lucky with no wait for dinner , but we didn't get choice seating in the glass room over looking the river. Next time, I WILL MAKE RESERVATIONS! and look forward to going back again! It looks like a back country restaurant from the outside but lovely and classy inside! Only my first night here, but I'm shocked. There were some rough negative reviews. Maybe those were accurate a bit ago... but that is not the case anymore. First, dinner was phenomenal. Penne pasta with shrimp, spicy. Wow. Healthy portion, fresh shrimp, prepared well. Staff was more than friendly. Felt like I've been here dozens of times before. Warm, down to earth regular folks. We also chatted with other guests. Good people. My brother had the Ribeye. While a touch expensive, it was top notch as well. The value is there and any reasonable person understands that there is some markup in a restaurant. Support your local businesses, or stay home and eat ramen. Another guest at the bar had the duck, after someone else [stranger] insisted he try it [from his plate, that shows you something]. The duck this guy got looked like it had eaten another larger duck before being prepared. The waiter strained to drag it over to him. Perhaps a littler hyperbolic, but you get it. The room is a great value. No odors, new carpet, perfectly acceptable bedding, TV with Roku so you can doze off to Bob Ross on PlutoTV. Zero complaints. I don't think your going to find a nicer place for the money. Pull up, relax with all the great folks and enjoy some great eats... if not, you can angry tweet from the parking lot and sleep in your car, losers.
