I really had a great experience here. Upon entering I was greeted by a friendly bartender with a huge smile. I walked around to look at the ambiance and enjoyed the old fashion vibe. The huge fireplace was welcoming. For brunch I ordered a buttermilk chicken sandwich. It tasted great and the presentation was excellent. The Bloody Mary had just enough spice for me. I recently stayed at the Western with a few friends. I read a couple of bad reviews about this place, but decided to ignore them and assumed they were outliers. I couldn't have been more wrong. The inn keeper was rude and belittling on the phone and via email to me and all of my friends for no reason at all. A stay at the Western is also overpriced for what you get. We decided to tough it out though because of the great location to where we were visiting, but I would much rather stay elsewhere and drive an extra 20 minutes after this experience. You would think a small expensive hotel would at least have good service, right? Absolutely not. Unless you want to spend an absurd amount of money to be disrespected, do not stay here. read more

I'm done. It is the 2nd time I have driven 30 minutes to eat here to be told they are closed. THIS after I checked their fb page, where nothing was stated other than "opens a 12" for brunch. I'm local and will tell everyone I know to go elsewhere. A shame to the Inn and for Callicoon. Will never try again. Too many other places where I can spend my money. Sat outside for dinner. Ambience was pleasant, as was the neighborhood, and staff super accommodating. The dishes were a mix of gems and misses. The steak crostini would have been much better with warm steak instead of cold (probably my fault for not asking). The steak in the Thai salad was the same as in the crostini, the salad was over salted (it was probably the dressing), and just overall underwhelming. The local trout was delicious. My niece thoroughly enjoyed her western burger. The cod was tasty but a bit over salted. Overall it was a pleasant find and you can certainly find yummy options. read more

What a shame it's a sham. Server Linda was lovely and that's the only good thing we can say about this place. Made a reservation for a table outside and anticipated an experience of good food and music. What we got was uninspired to inedible. Ordered well (we thought) including a glass of Cabernet ($18), a 'cream' of broccoli soup and an appetizer that resembled a fish croquet to start. Then a steak 'frite' and a caesar salad with grilled shrimp. We were served a watery mini crock of cheesy salt water with a few pieces of floating broccoli. The cod was soft and chewy but passable. The steak was nothing resembling a traditional french dish as loosely described, but a slab of meat with french fries. My salad was a cold mix of wilted lettuce and 3 small pre-cooked shrimp (they were sneaky enough to char them) with a bottled dressing that had no resemblance to caesar. What made it worse (as if it's not bad enough) when I returned the salad as inedible, the owner Irene came out to challenge us and asked "where are you from"? Ahhhh, there it is. An unimaginative way of insulting a guest. A guest who has roots in the local resort industry and now supports new and old businesses throughout the county and Hudson Valley. Irene is not meant to be in the hospitality business as I also saw her berate an employee and loudly comment about a nearby customer who apparently placed a wine order she didn't like. Don't bother with this place. Take yourself down the street to any number of places including the Creek House Grill and have a wonderful meal and experience with the chef/owners who understand food and the value of their customer. read more

This hidden gem has so much character and charm. we were smitten the second we walked in by the cleanliness and niceness of bartender and staff!! The drink menu and presence are that of a Manhatten level experience. Sadly, it only took hearing how the manager/owner (? not sure if she was both) spoke to the staff in a demeaning and incompetent way to decide it's not a place we'll revisit. if that wasn't bad enough we also watched her be everything but welcoming and kind to a patron coming in to ask about pricing for the inn. it's terrible anyone is treated that way ever, but when the staff is actually competent and doing a great job it's just that much worse. read more

The Western Hotel restaurant has some work to do but mostly in regards to their service. We asked to sit outside & instructed to seat ourselves but never got our menus so helped ourselves to those as well. The specialty drinks sounded enticing but took forever to be served- at a certain point the hostess finally visited our table and we ordered waters. Upon receiving a shared salad the waitress asked if we wanted utensils! The dinners were well presented and tasted okay but needed more descriptions on the menu. For example my order was sesame shrimp with a curry sauce I believe but didn't state it was breaded. The porch view and weather were lovely for dining plus inside would've been just as nice. I'd give them another chance - maybe next summer! read more

What an uncomfortable experience on so many levels. Live music next door while we were there was earsplittingly loud and awful. We actually had to escape from the place we came to stay. Callicoon is a very small town and the bass thump of stale rock followed us wherever we walked. I don't how other busnesses tolerate it. But the absolute worst part of our experience was witnessing the proprietress humiliate elderly customers at another table when we had dinner. (food was pretty indifferent; there's no pride or sense of hospitality here) She was mean and a little unhinged, and it hurt to watch. There are number of other cute downtowns in the area. We'll write this one off; I don't recommend it. read more

My girlfriend and I came here for dinner on a Saturday evening. We sat out on the front patio overlooking the cute town of Callicoon with a beautiful mountain sky in the background. It was so romantic! You have to try it! The service was awesome and the food was amazing! Everything was perfect. We were there on the first day the Western Bar opened. Connected with the Supper Club and Inn the Western is a unique spot in the western part of Sullivan County. The bartender Josiah is a craftsman in his own right. He gives the place a good vibe. Not a lot to do in this in this town, so finding a nice comfortable place to pause is always a plus. The word is the owner will continue to renovate the Inn and refresh the property. We'll wait to see how it all turns out and hope for the best as they grow the business. read more

Been here twice, both times the food was about one step above diner food. Both times the meals took FOREVER to arrive and were virtually cold. Of course that leads me to think they were cooked (or thawed), then left to sit for 20 minutes before being brought out. The owner and bartenders are nice so I feel bad writing a shitty review. Just stopped here for a n early dinner on our way to our home in Walton. Beautiful old building dating back to 1852. The bar is beautiful, warm and inviting and the dining rooms calls to you especially with the beautiful stone fireplace. It's historic and elegant. The flog is was fabulous. Highly recommend the Mac n cheese. We eat out A LOT!!!! And thus place absolutely impressed. We will be back!!! read more

Went to a concert and family reunion in Bethel. Stayed at this beautiful hotel in small town of Callicoon. The Hotel, Bar and restaurant is full of so much history. Building was built in 1800s and so well kept. There is a ballroom on second floor that was so well maintained and we truly felt like we stepped back in time. The bar and restaurant too make you feel like you stepped back in time.....the bartender greeted us and made us feel at home. As for our room, I have to say it was the cleanest hotel room I ever stayed in. The decor is very classy yet they made sure the historical elements were highlighted. Bathroom was again impeccably clean fresh towels layed out for us. Irene the owner is a doll and was very accommodating. We strolled through the town shopping at the various stores consignment, antiques, wine shop etc. Old movie theater steps always from hotel. I highly recommend this place. I know me and my family will be returning real soon. read more

This is our favorite place to stay when we visit the catskills. The rooms are spacious and clean. The new owner Irene has updated the rooms with new furnishings and have a shabby chic cozy vibe. The rooms have an amazing view of the center of town. The Western is in walking distance of all restaurants and bars. Not to mention you dont even have to leave as its namesake says the Western Inn and Supper Club has a restaurant and bar that is truly fab. The dining room has a amazing vast original fireplace and there are sitting areas throughout the interesting Inn where you can sit have a drink and relax. The Western Inn is a destination for sure and if you stay the night there's a coffee bar waiting in the morning. read more

The antiquity of old world history of Ny is captured here. With the refurbishment they kept the charm, gave fluffy soft bath towels, flat panel "smart" tvs, appropriate décor FOR A HISTORICAL NY gem. The weekend they had a community fair. The vendors were majorly from NYC areas. If you are seeking refuge, peace, old world charm, and to DISCONNECT make a plan today. At first I was beside myself without Internet, bath robes, a(n) elevator and all the perks of a NYC hotel. Then reality struck and I seemingly forgot that and spent time with my family, friends, talking to people, looking at my companions, laughing, then we PLAYED board games, dominoes, chess, Monopoly, UNO, 52 Pickup. I realized in live in a metro area and forgot what it was like to be alone with living people versus a(n) electronic device. I didn't Dine here but I did sit at the bar upon arrival (I was late and the bartender WAITED and she warned me 30 min out CELL service is waning). I deposited some money into the local Calicoon economy. They pour up exceptional drinks and are reasonably priced. The best part was the old world ambiance that you feel from the property and hotel being what it was some time ago. If you are a couple, family or solo and want to "get away from the urban life" for a weekend or a week this is the way to "unplug". Local Shops from café to thrift shop are delightful to peruse while planning a trip with a canoe across the street (Yes you need not drive anywhere). I read Yelp before I booked it and YES I had second thoughts once comparing it with larger "advertised" hotel chains and resorts..... although I would NOT have the memories I have with my friends and family that this local afforded me. Thank you to the staff for allowing me to realize in 2018 disconnecting can change my life. Ill always remember this trip. read more

Truly awful restaurant. The salmon came out raw inside. No, not deliciously charred outside and rare inside, just raw inside and a little cooked on the outside. Once it came back cooked it was too horrible and fishy tasting to eat. The asparagus looked boiled for hours. My husband's steak frites was overcooked, cut up into little pieces, and served on Russian dressing. Completely unappetizing, and not steak frites. And there was a strange old guy loitering on the terrace with us, apparently part of the establishment. As for the inn, it was just really strange. The exterior is very old western looking, which was cool. But our room felt like someone had started to renovate and run out of steam. It was hard to figure out where to go and where the key was for. There was nobody there to receive us when we arrived late afternoon. The bar tender finally took us to our room and asked us twice to pay, even after I told him I'd pre-paid. read more

Restaurant just recently opened and we chose to go there for brunch today mostly because their air conditioner was working great! It was so hot today and the restaurant next door just had fans going. That wasn't going to cut it. Our first order of business was signature cocktail made be the very talented drink master Josiah. I had the suffragette spritzer. OMG great drink with frozen fruit and frozen lavender and mint in the ice cubes. So not only delicious but so pretty! I ordered the schnitzel and I swear if I could have licked the plate I would have. I only saw the brunch menu today but I will be back for another of Josiah's creations soon! read more

Had the best time here with my niece and her friends! Fun drinks and good food. The acorn squash soup is terrific seasonal starter; the zucchini sticks are fresh with a crispy batter. The quinoa salad is a nice vegetarian option and is beautiful. My husband had the salmon, also on a bed of quinoa. This is a great place to hang out and watch the fire roar in the fireplace with a glass of wine. Been coming here a while and I love it more now with the fall season upon us. read more

What happened? Gone are the interesting menu items. Gone is the quality and nonexistent is the service. Gone is the chef???? Soup was clearly frozen and had been microwaved. It was luke warm. Kids chicken fingers were the only edible items and they came out 20 minutes before the sliced, yup sliced, filet mignon and the burnt salmon served with dried out, undercooked rice and broccoli (not green beans). Avoid!!--Was told upon arrival that everything downstairs would be closed due to the holiday. No staff members were in the hotel or available by phone to help when the shower didn't work or when the front door was locked. The decaying taxidermy all over is also pretty gross. I booked one night at this hotel several weeks in advance to attend an event upstate on my birthday. On the DAY OF THE RESERVATION the manager, Irene, called to let me know that they had overbooked and I was no longer welcome that night. As it was a holiday weekend I had to scramble and pay upwards of $350 for a last-minute AirBnb. Happy birthday to me! While I have never set foot in this hotel, my experience making a reservation was atrocious from the lack of available online booking, to zero room photos on their website, to 3 days trying to get a human being to return my voicemails, and then this ridiculously disrespectful cancellation. I don't care how cute their hotel or restaurant is, this place doesn't deserve my business. read more

I love this place! We've been here a few times recently and have enjoyed sipping delicious drinks while listening to the great bands they showcase in their outdoor space on the weekends. I love the simplicity of this place and the unpretentious feel. They light a great little fire on chilly nights. The atmosphere is wonderful and The service is attentive and friendly. We ate dinner there one time and really enjoyed their food. It's barbecue style and I must say, it's really good! We called to see if we needed a reservation and no one answered the first two times we called. That should have been sign. After finally getting through I asked if we needed a reservation and the person said "we are moderately busy". When we arrived there was only one table inside with customers. The waitress was abrupt and informed us that three things on the menu were not available that Saturday night. The menu was very limited to begin with. We never saw another person for about 20 minutes. Someone from the kitchen came out and started cleaning the floor with a bucket and mop. We all decided to get up and leave. This was our first visit here, after spending time at the Farmers Market. It was a beautiful day, so we opted to eat on the veranda. We were seated in the corner but were still in the shade at mid day. My wife and I both had The Eggs. Eggs with home fries and we added a side of hickory smoked bacon. The food was great but if you don't like spicy, the sauce that the home fries sits in may not be for you, so ask to have it with out. If you like spicy, you will love this! Beautiful, historic hotel on the Delaware. The place has been updated to combine the old saloon feel with a newer, bright farm chic. It is good for a weekend stay, a nice dinner, or for large events. They have a very large ballroom, multiple dining rooms, and ample outside seating. We held our engagement dinner there a few years ago on the outdoor patio, and recently had a small birthday party in one of the dining rooms. They have done a great job adjusting during the pandemic with outdoor seating, live bands, and great bbq. Their cocktails are delicious. The location is perfectly situated in the middle of Callicoon, a very cute town with antique shops, galleries, restaurants, gourmet stores selling local wares, and Sunday farmer's market. read more

The relaunch due to The Covid closure was brilliant. Outside is now the Western Bbque and Beer Garden. It has the most outside seating of any restaurant in town. More importantly the food there was great the smoked pulled pork was my favourite. Chicken is grilled right outside! Live music was really nice. Great time. We stayed at hotel in a fantastic king room. It was a great weekend. Can't wait to do it again. read more
