Western omelet with hash browns and biscuit
    Jennifer S.

Sometimes you have to veer off the highway to get some good breakfast! I'm so glad I did. Doug's place was cute and seemed to have been recently upgraded. Still had the great country farmhouse interior and the bathroom was very nice! I ordered the western omelet which was loaded with a ton of peppers, onions and ham. The biscuit was fresh and tasted like a country biscuit should. Our server was sweet and food arrived fast.

This local hub of country cooking is where the elite eat. Multimillion-dollar deals have been hashed out here (LakePoint, maybe Amazon centers and more) over biscuits and gravy or meat-and-threes. @Marksullins upped the ante when he bought the Emerson landmark and it shows (expansions and updates). Our first visit was way overdue but it was a perfect 'tween holidays stop. Food. Fried chicken livers, turnip greens and pintos beans with corn bread. Plate no. 2: Green beans, sliced tomatoes, macaroni and cheese with Texas toast. We needed something healthy after all the Christmas dining. All was good but livers could have been a bit warmer. Star of the show: the greens. Atmosphere: perfect. Embraces local history and culture amid perfect updates. That is why, even at 3:30 p.m. on a drizzly Friday, the place was filled with families and couples. Service: Good. Could be a bit more attentive (water refills). Cost: great. Two meals and tip, $26. Bottom line: glad to dine local. We'll be back to try breakfast soon.

A classic!! No place like Doug's. The recent renovation have brought the place up to date but the food is still as good as it was 20 years ago. Smoked pork was flavorful and moist, Mac and cheese was creamy, collards were nice and tender. Cornbread was a little dry and server didn't really check on us after we got our food. Still a great meal!

I came here with a large group and they were so good to us! We had all placed our orders in advance so they could work on prepping ahead of time. I got the pork loins with rice and gravy with macaroni and cheese and fried potato wedges. I did have a bit of an issue with getting a drink at the beginning- I ordered a coke but the mix tasted off to me so I tried a Dr. Pepper and had the same issue. I eventually settled on an unsweetened tea. However, the waitstaff was very attentive so this was resolved quickly. The food also came out very quickly. It was no sooner than we had sat down that they were already bringing out the first plates. I believe our group was at least 30 people and they were so speedy with the service. Especially since we had a specific time slot and we ended up coming early. I think my favorite part of my meal was the fried potato wedges. My pork loins were very succulent and juicy. The rice was a bit on the mushy side for me so I didn't eat too much of it. And then we finished up with a banana pudding. The portion they gave you was so much! And it was so good. We had an amazing experience and would definitely come back in the future!

Roast beef, mac and cheese, mash potatoes and corn bread! Supper delicious

We were surprised that this place was, overall, over the top. We immediately felt at home. The people were welcoming and friendly, and we didn't have to wait long for our food. The food was super delicious; it tasted so good that I felt like my grandma was in the kitchen cooking. We strongly recommend this place for some of the best Southern food. The atmosphere was cozy and nice.

We absolutely love Doug's Place! The food and service never disappoint. We ordered a bacon breakfast plate and a country ham breakfast plate. The food was prepared fresh to order and served piping hot. We ordered a cinnamon roll to go so don't miss out on that! Our waitress brought it to our table before our food arrived because she didn't want us to miss it in case they ran out. How sweet is that! They only make them on weekends. If you're going down I-75 and are near exit 283 you gotta stop. They also have a fabulous lunch menu with meat and veggies.

Got a chance to visit the original Doug's Place today in Emerson, Georgia for an upcoming article with Cartersville Living-Best Version Media. This place has lots of nostalgia for me as in my younger years, I used to come here often when I was working in the area. Great place and some good southern food. Place looks completely different now and place is beautiful for sure and they did a great job honoring the history through decor and pictures, etc. throughout the building as well. If ever in the area it's a must stop for sure near Cartersville, Georgia Y-Not Georgia Bbq #whatshappeningincartersvillega #localeats #dougsplace #southerncooking #southernfood #supportlocal #cartersville #forksupBartow #cartersvilleliving #cartersvillega #cartersvillegeorgia

Excellent choice. Everything was wonderful. We had fried chicken and country omelette. Sides were grit, squash, sweet potato and macaroni and cheese. We ordered the blackberry cobbler for take out. Chicken was moist perfectly cooked. All the sides were delicious

Doug's Place is a gem. We were traveling through and just happened upon it. Lot's of history. Good vibes. Great people and amazing comfort food.

Doug's Place, a long time restaurant has a new owner. This is our first time back since the renovation. I'm amazed! The ambiance is terrific now with antique signs and items scattered throughout. The improvements are: 1) paved parking lot. 2) outside patio seating 3) drive thru for pick up But the good news is that the food is still the same good country cooking. Great place to eat.

Fried shrimp dinner with slaw, cream corn, hush puppies & tea - under $20 as of summer 2024.

I give Doug's a 4. Happy w/ my fried shrimp choice. Wife would mark it a 3 as she was less thrilled with her fried chicken order - a bit overdone, she said. My cole slaw was good. What they bill as "silver queen cream corn", was, er, not quite how grandma made it, so I would try a different side next time. Good tea, good service & options like meat & 1, 2 or 3 sides. Huge chicken tenders for grandson's kids plate. This was our first visit but others seem to note it's just been renovated/refurbished. Nothing fancy (& isn't meant to be), just nice, casual family-restaurant atmosphere.

Not in the staff but there are some minor interior issues which could be addressed. As the dining area and service areas are open plan you can easily see the duct tape doors to the dishwashers area is in dire need of repair versus patching. Also it is rather filthy along the edges. The wall a/c unit also needs to be completely cleaned as it appears to have some grime building up. Now for the biggest disappointment ... our food. Coffee - yummy Country fried steak biscuit..... yea nope not again. It's just like it says just a huge very thin slice of commercial packaged frozen patty of country fried steak laid across an open faced biscuit. I had a side of fresh fruit. But it was mostly out of season fruit so not sweet and still underripe. Biscuit was light and fluffy but I had to order a piece of cheese and some gravy to hide the flavor of the meat and coating. Chicken and waffles - husband's favorite here but today it wasn't the same at all. Chicken was super dry inside. Waffles he described as no different than ones he makes at the hotel lobby. All in all we will wait some before returning to try again at some point. Thank you to the wait staff for always having smiles and helping each other to keep us happy.
