It's so unusual to see such a great Austin classic less than busy, but we enjoyed the quiet atmosphere. (Most orders were to go). The salad bar looked amazing. With plenty of parking out front, EV superchargers nearby, bus stops, and so many great shops, this is a great location. We shared the huge 6 pepperoni rolls and a large spinach stromboli. Side sauce options were fresh marinara or pre-packaged ranch. There were limited beer options today, but plenty of soft drink choices. The service was friendly, and even brought out our food to the table. Our food didn't take too long despite so many to go and delivery orders ahead of us. Not sure where to start. I'll try and be nice and stick to the facts. I showed up a few minutes early and they stated it would be another 5 minutes. At this time the entire place was empty of customer. After 5 -10 I got notified that my pizza was ready via email and at this point there was a line out the door. I tried to get someone's attention as the staff was walking to and from the kitchen but ultimately I was told to get back in line. One guy was working the register, and at a snails pace would not get close to describing the urgency. While waiting, watching the team work here, I can best describe it as disorganized, inattentive, apathetic. People in the kitchen would just look up and stare at the line, not helping. One guy finally walked out from the kitchen to pick up the tv remote and change the channel to something he wanted. That was fun to watch. By the time I got to the counter, I told the guy (again) I was there for my food. He got it, and as I reached for it he said, ' no no, let me check to see it's all here and have you sign for it'. He then reprinted a ticket and had me sign for it. I grabbed it and rushed out the door as it was clearly getting cold and people were waiting on me. I could hear him repeating whatever he was trying to say in regards to having a nice day, probably wanting me to repeat. He probably thought me rude unaware of actually how things are. Let me call out, briefly, the very odd systematic way they do things here. 1, at least have someone walking the line confirming pickups v new orders to move things along. Or put more people support the front 2. Make a system to grab and go. Why reprint a ticket after it has been paid for and have them re-sign 3. Pay attention. Clearly people needed help and staff was just walking around with their own agenda. 4. I'm sure there is more but I don't care and won't be coming back. I urge others to not to as well. This location has the buffet and plenty of seats inside to bring your family or friends to. Be sure to pick up a stamp card from the cashier. I think every 8-10 visits gets you a free buffet? Trust me - those add up especially if you have a partner or a few friends with you. Buffet is always fresh and there is always a variety. Salad and toppings bar is always filled and fresh. To be honest, I haven't dined at a DDP since probably the mid 1990's; no lie! Back in the day, we use to dine here monthly, if not weekly...sometimes daily. Super reasonable but super delicious! If you have never been here, you must order the pizza rolls; to be transparent, that's all I've ever ordered. This past time, I did order a Caesar Salad which was good. I mean, how can anyone screw up a salad? (Insert major smiling) We got there around 1:45 pm so it wasn't packed at all; we must have missed the lunch crowd on a Thursday. The young lady at the register was a QUIET TALKER so it was hard to communicate but that didn't matter, we were there for the food, not for conversation. (LOL). Went there 1st time last night as I was at Southpark meadows shopping center and I wanted a pizza. I went around 9:30pm and the restaurant was completely empty just 1 table.. The girl at the front desk was really sweet and helped me select my pizza. They have these daily specials so do check them out.. As it was just for me I decided to go for a small one. Last night was my first time having Double Dave's. We happened to be in the South Park Meadows shopping center and were looking for dinner. We popped in here and it was actually pretty busy. There were about 5 or 6 empty tables but they were all dirty. After we made our order tried to find the cleanest one to sit at. We ordered a medium pizza - pepperoni with half bacon and half pineapple. We also ordered 6 rolls - 3 cheese and 3 pepperoni. The best thing surprisingly was the cheese roll. So that probably isn't saying much for the rest. The pepperoni rolls had absolutely no flavor --- boring. I don't get the hype about them. The pizza was ok at best. I wasn't a fan of the crust. It was hollow on the end almost and you could tell it had been weirdly folded over. The toppings were generous which was a plus. I probably wouldn't come back here on my own with all the other pizza choices in the area. One more thing to mention ... I was sort of confused by the decor on the walls. There was a sign for Krispy Kreme Doughnuts and Washington Mutual (the old bank that got bought by chase). You see the orchestrated dance in the kitchen of pizzas being made with delivery driver bouncing in and out with orders on the fly. This is one of the truly best kept secrets in the pizza game. We came on a Saturday night, ordering two large Stromboli. They were both delicious and food quality/speed of service would get 5 stars. The problem with this visit was we were overcharged. Saturdays have a large Stromboli Special for $9.99. When I was told the cost was $28.12, I asked why the special price was not applied. Went here tonight for dinner with my brother and my mom visiting from Kenosha. I think we were all a bit surprised. Very fun wide open seating area, with fun trinkets and lots of TVs. The pizza was great, the service was terrific; but what stood out the most was the employees. They were all working hard and together. They were encouraging each other and helping each other. I give this DD's the 5 stars for the quality the provide at the particular DD's. I grew up on their Pizza Rolls in BCS and have loved them every since. I have found throughout the years that it can sometimes be hit or miss with DD's around Texas. This location is consistently good and truly provide great customer service. After the DD's moved and lost the buffet just down the road near Wm. Cannon and Mopac, this is now the South Austin go-to Double Dave's spot. Just like you like it...wait that's a burger slogan. Its back, complete with the generous buffet and cozy digs that Austinites remember. My recent visit produced carb loving slices of everything that made DD's famous in the first place. I'm especially fond of the BBQ chicken, Buffalo chicken, and the Philly cheese steak stromboli. Who can forget the pepperoni rolls with your choice of ranch or marinara. The salad bar is, well I never get salad. I took a family friend with her kiddos in tow after a play date at the adjacent playground; a memorable lunch bringing me back to old school Austin. What I remember is the special soda machine called Coca-Cola Freestyle. Main brands such as Coke can be mixed with flavors such as Coke-Raspberry. Ever since high school I went to the DD on Metric. I have great love and memories from that store so it was an awesome surprise to find that the same GM from Metric moved to this location to start it up! He's super friendly, nice, accommodating and easy on the eyes (he's the guitarist from Cruiserweight!)... I'd probably eat here for that reason even if the food wasn't super delicious- which it is. I would recommend the lesser tried Chee-Z rolls AND the Veggie Stromboli, both of which are super delicious :) read more

So I normally eat at the double daves in arbor Trails but tonight was my night off and I got delivery... the person who took my order told me it would be 30mins for my pizza to arrive. I'm in the "industry" so I know how it is to deal with rude customers. But after 53 minutes I called to see where my pizza was and the lady said she couldn't find who was delivering my pizza. She put me on hold, and then I heard the knock. I got my pizza and it was smelling great. Sat it on the coffee table went to grab a soda and plate. I pick up the pizza and it's pretty cold. I don't normally complain but I decided to call back and speak to the manager.. the Manager was a GIRL named Colby or Cody whatever her name is, of you're reading this I hope I caught you on a bad day! She was SO DISRESPECTFUL! She had the nerve to tell me the temperature of my pizza, as if she was in front of me and didn't even bother to help to the solution. Her exact words were "No that's no possible your pizza is cold, it arrived under and hour" I asked her when was the ticket time she said 8:57pm I called at 9:50 to find out where my pizza was. Then I told her I was told 30 minutes. She said "Well we hired a lot of new people so they told you wrong" ONE She did not apologize TWO She did not try to fix the problem. THREE She HUNG UP in my face when I wasn't done speaking. I called back, & got Ross on the phone I guess another manager, maybe she knew it was me and didn't want to speak with me any longer. Customer service is okay. The pizza has a more bland low key taste. The crust is bleh. I usually eat the crust but not there's. The pizza is a little high priced for the regular days. Pizza was good but no way extra cheese. That's the 3rd time we've ordered extra cheese but have never actually gotten it. Next time we will just order cheese to see what happens. We always tip too.
