Iced Coffee Milk Tea and Cocktail Bun
    Anita Y.

I'm a regular at several other Rainbow Bakery locations but I was in the Elmhurst area today and was craving shrimp rice roll (my go-to order at the RB near me). This is my first time at the Double RB. This location so far is the only one I've personally been to with seating available AND accepts credit card/Apple Pay... already off to an excellent start. Inside, there are rows of different bread selections and they offer hot dim sum as well as made-to-order steamed rice rolls. I decided to try one thing from each menu (except the cakes). From the breads/pastries displays, I grabbed a cocktail bun (雞尾包). At the counter, I ordered an iced coffee milk tea (凍鴛鴦) from the drinks menu, a siu mai (燒賣) from the dim sum menu, and fresh shrimp rice roll (蝦腸) from the rice roll menu (helpful hint: there's also a dried shrimp rice roll on the menu which tastes drastically different (iykyk) so if you're getting shrimp, it's best to clarify which one you want). One thing I love about RB is the fact that they charge pretty fair prices for the selection they offer. For about $5, my rice roll is freshly made-to-order and comes with 6 pieces of shrimp. The taste of the shrimp roll was not bad but wasn't exactly as I had hoped (because as I've said, it's my go-to at the other locations) so I guess it's not very consistent amongst the different locations. The texture of the rice roll itself is great, up to par, not too chewy, and absorbs the soy sauce just right. It's the shrimp that tasted a little off (you can tell the shrimp were also tossed in a little late because otherwise, it would've been encased by the rice roll or at least sticking to it). The cocktail bun that I had saved for a later time was nothing to write home about; a little on the sweeter side (it's normally both sweet and savory) and the dough is quite dense. My favorites of this visit would definitely be the siu mai and the iced drink I got. The siu mai lacked shrimp but the pork filling was very flavorful, juicy, and had a nice chew to it - I sometimes make siu mai from scratch at home so it's rare that I find one that matches the way mine tastes, I only wish they would put some shrimp in there (well, maybe not from today's batch). The iced coffee milk tea was the perfect ratio for me (the recipe is supposed to be 50/50 but I prefer mine to be closer to 40/60 (coffee:milk tea) because even though it's less caffeine, the coffee wouldn't be overpowering the smooth taste of milk tea). I recommend giving this bakery a try if you're in the area and looking for a cheap breakfast or in my case, both my first meal and a midday pick-me-up to get me through the rest of the day. The staff is friendly and there's seating (limited). All the tables were packed when I was there but I managed to get one within 3-5 minutes of waiting. I (very regrettably) did not drive today so it was nice to be enjoying a quick, hot meal indoors away from the freezing cold temperatures.

Lots of bakery items to choose from. I got a sweet potato bun which was not too shabby. Good amount of filling and not overly sweet. I also got a black sesame bun and it was not good. It barely had black sesame flavor and it was super crumbly. Lastly I got a whole wheat loaf and it was surprisingly delicious. It was slightly sweet and hefty enough to make sandwiches out of.

This is a great place. They have a vast selection of products. The food is good. Service was also good.

One of my favorite bakery in Elmhurst, Queens! Big store with lots of my favorite bread and cakes! Location: Located in Elmhurst, near New York supermarket, the store is big, good display of breads, cakes and sweets. Service: the server is kind of in a hurry, i just got in and she was asking my order already lol. I didn't even see what I want to get. Food: MATCHA CAKE: soo good, fluffy and moist! CORN BREAD: my favorite too! Always good! There is a lot of corn bits and bread is soft! COFFEE MILK TEA with BOBA: soo good! The boba is so sticky, chewy and good! Price rating: 3 out of 10. Very cheap! Everything is good but try their cakes and breads! I wanna try everything, definitely will come back.

I work in the area and have been going to this place for so long. I always noticed that there customer service is not the best when it comes to customer that are not Chinese. I am a Latina ( people always confuse me for middle eastern 90% of the time) and enjoy having a peaceful rising. Therefore, always pay with exact change to make minimal interaction with the women at the bakery. I normally order a regular coffee ($1.35). Today, I paid with the change in the picture attached. I asked for a regular coffee cream and sugar. The women made the coffee, I gave her the change in her palm. She flipped through the change, took the rusty quarter out and flicked it at the table. I took the quarter and tried to explained that it was given at the laundromat. Before I finished my sentence, she threw all the change she had in her palm at the counter and snatched the coffee off the counter (as if I was going to steal it). The whole interaction was so belittling and not worth being late to work. Yes, the quarter is rusty (I got the change back from the laundromat) but totally not worth the tone level, service and mannerism. Customers from other ethnicities are bullied and treat with suspicion. They create a battle field when there is none. Protect your energy and stay away from this place !!!

The best oat with cranberry cookies!!!! I made it all the way from Manhattan to Elmhurst just for their cookies. Tasty, crispy and not too sweet. Every time I start it's not easy to stop. It's that good .,,. The soft cake is fantastic. I'm sure everything else is good too.

One of the best BBQ pork bun for $1.10

Over all, just an average Chinese bakery place if it s in Flushing. However, they do have a much better BBQ pork bun! 3stars. I have tried many Chinese bakery stores BBQ pork buns in and out side of Flushing. This one has decent BBQ pork buns. Decent mixture in between being sweet n salty. Right amounts of diced BBQ pork. My picky little boy tells me:" Mommy, it s good!" Then I am more assured it is decent. Ham Shui Gao ,a deep fried stick rice ball with grounded pork stuffing, is not good. Oily, saggy and very little pork stuffing for $1. The cream buns suck! Not even real cream. How do they make decent BBQ buns but the worst cream buns. Odd. Oh well, that's life. Can't win it all. All ladies have no smile whatsoever, like they do not like their job:(((. How unfortunate. No wonder the service is so SLOW and unpleasant. No sense of humor. Amen!

Everything a Chinese bakery should be! Some items sell really quick so it's best to get there early :)

We came by the day before Mother's Day, so they had pre decorated Mother's Day cakes. You can also place an order. Service is quick and friendly. We initially planned on getting a Strawberry Shortcake, as that seemed to be the cake to get. However, we opted for the Cheesecake, because we were able to add fresh strawberries (and whipped cream) on top! I'm not a fan of whipped cream, so I avoided that, but everyone seemed to enjoy. It had a good creamy texture and was not too sweet. The strawberries were indeed fresh. The pound cake was soft and airy. The vanilla flavor comes through. I will have to try the Marbled version next time! Note: Cash Only! A regular customer ordered the tiramisu cake; said it was the best cake ever, so will have to try that next time!

A friend recommended it to me, and I've already ordered two birthday cakes from here. The tiramisu cake was absolutely delicious, honestly one of the best I've ever had. I didn't even know you could customize a tiramisu cake since it's usually served the traditional way, but they made it exactly how I wanted. As someone who loves tiramisu, this really stood out. I also ordered a strawberry shortcake, and it was just as impressive. The buttercream was so good , light, flavorful, and not overly sweet. Everyone loved it, and there wasn't a single slice left. The owner's son (I believe) was super helpful, he really takes the time to understand what you want and brings it to life perfectly. I've also tried their croissants, which are huge and delicious, and the hero bread is excellent too. Just a heads-up: they only accept cash.I'll definitely be ordering all my cakes from here moving forward!

Their hot milk tea is a cozy, comforting drink that warms the soul. Fay Da's milk tea may still hold the title for my favorite, but Yi Mei's version is a very close contender. The sponge cake? A pleasant surprise. Despite some folks claiming the bread isn't fresh, I've never really had a negative experience with them. But then again, I only get the sponge cake and I can't differentiate fresh vs not fresh between them (I'll just assume that if it's NOT fresh, I would have been able to tell). For ethnic places like Yi Mei, I don't put much weight on service standards. Comparing them to American restaurants would be like comparing apples to oranges. What truly matters is the authenticity and the food quality, and Yi Mei nails both. So, if you find yourself in the area with a rumbling stomach, swing by Yi Mei Bakery.
