So many 1 and 2 stars are here for this place, ask yourself why, over the years we gave it low ratings too. Well, we were fools because here we were trying this place again, after some years long after our 2 bad experiences long since past, so now, add on yet another updated review for the Yelp books, now in 2024. They are the same, owner, management and food, all same, and it wasn't good before, as in just mediocre, some (Amercanized) chinese food with a good location. Now, the only reason we just went back here recently, was all because we actually thought the place was sold by now, this was assumed based on my seeing an ad for it for sale awhile back and that perhaps it was sold, the place is popular and makes its money, so unfortunately we were close by and hungry and risked another try. Oh my.... Wrong, same deal, food, same manager, who's an owner, so, obviously nobody bought it as we hoped was the case, instead quickly seen was how bad it always was some years ago. This time we left very soon after seating, this after being told a policy is you can have no table water. Huh? New lying thing since Covid? Nickel and dime people instead in this way? Must buy a $2 bottle for 8 oz Poland Spring AND then think we would accept our 2 very cold filling inside egg rolls served to us? Red flags and things simply unacceptable yet people will flock there. When I wanted to leave right after the refuse table water deal, must buy their bottled water? Instead - We order 2 waters, one I opened to drink, other one was not yet. We order 2 egg rolls to start, not yet the main dishes. They brought our egg rolls rather quickly, looked fried dark brown BUT entirely the filling inside for both egg rolls were VERY cold? Huh? Why is because details like this don't matter there AND they fry these right out of the fridge, filling stays cold inside and slightly hot on the exterior? They take them out of a fryer way too fast. These were def. fried in batches earlier in the day, then put in fridge for later dinner service, when it gets busy, this expedites BUT not when YOU hardly fry them long enough to get the insides hot? Also it's not my first rodeo of having an egg roll received this way. It is simple stuff in food service to not do. After this - I just needed to LEAVE - or I would have made much more of these details - we got up from the table and proceed to the cashier up front, paid for the 1 opened bottle of water, the other was unopened. Told the girl upfront in so many words how the place sucks and how it did before, in 2024, nothing has changed. We left and did so, ever so gladly. Stay away, this place is not quality and the details don't matter much with customers only a dollar sign for them. Bye Double Ai and seems nobody wanted to buy the place at 499k yet, apparently the kid/Mom duo still owns it but he's run it for years now. He's no longer a kid but one slick little biz owner who nickel and dimes customers while he keeps on cashing in. The mounds of $$$ received in PP fed. loans helped much more and all while your take out food biz quadrupled during the pandemic. Ah yes, America has been very good to you. read more

What is there to say besides great food, great fl prices, and even nicer service/staff. Came here on a double-date and it did not disappoint. The food was unexpectedly amazing. Great food! They have a nice outdoor area as well and now a bar. The outdoor area is even usable during the winter.

The service was amazing, the staff was polite and welcoming. The restaurant was ok, kind of dingy. The food was not great. The best thing I ate was the boneless spare ribs. This restaurant has so much potential and I really wanted to like it but it failed in so many ways. Decor/ambiance: Great location, good parking, right on the water, great views. Terrible upkeep, water damage in ceiling, paint chipping off the ceiling. Cleanliness: I feel dirty sitting in the dining room. Servers wipe all the table crumbs onto the floor when they leave. One of our knives was very dirty and looked used. The other knife had a fruit/produce sticker on it. How do you put these dirty utensils out? Doesn't anyone check before they set the table? Service: not good, staff did not seem to care much about the service. Brought my credit card and bill to the wrong table when it literally says the table number on the bill. Staff: They hire a bunch of young and skinny high school girls that don't know what they are doing. I assume the creepy owner thinks hiring these young girls will get more customers to come and dine. I guess people will sacrifice their stomach and taste buds for flirty little high school girls. What a PATHETIC AND GROSS business model! Food: Terrible, I don't understand how anyone says the food is good here. Dumplings: very mediocre and the frozen pre-made variety, definitely not fresh made. Boneless spareribs: came out kind of cold, probably been sitting there for a while. It was dry and tasteless. Kamikaze roll: the soft shell crab was mostly batter and very rubbery, wasn't newly fried, probably premade and sitting in kitchen for a long time. Salmon avocado roll: this was ok. Hard to mess this up, literally salmon and avocado. Tuna avocado roll: terrible, tuna was rubbery sitting out in room temperature for way too long. Sushi combo: not good, again, sushi was not properly kept and sitting out for a long time. Soy sauce: Something is really off about the soy sauce they offer. I'm not really sure what. I think it must be a cheaper variety they are trying to cut costs on. It tastes weird and thicker consistency than normal. I am surprised we didn't get sick. Ate maybe half our food and couldn't manage to eat anymore because it was so bad. They asked us if we wanted to take leftovers home and I said no, the food was not good and the guy just smiled and walked away. He did not care one bit and did not bother to ask what was wrong. I wouldn't come her again if they offered me free food. I'd rather eat at McDonald's than come here. Probably one of the worst sushi places I've been to in NJ. Sushi village in little falls might be the only place that is worse than Double Ai. read more

First time dining at Double Ai - since it's COVID time called ahead to confirm available space. I give it five stars for great and fast service. Every table receives a bowl of crispy fried noodles with some sweet and sour sauce. We ordered the black pepper chicken and shrimp and another plate of salt pepper shrimp and scallops and each dish comes with a side of white or brown rice and let me tell you the portion for the $15 price is soooo worth it. We were so full (we also ordered an appetizer) that we had to ask for containers as we couldn't finish our meal. Definitely worth enjoying a meal here. read more

We have been going to Double AI for several years - enjoying their outdoor patio in the summer, their food & BYOB. Today was a disappointment - new bar with a corking fee for wine as well as a loud DJ playing techno music. We waited 1.5 hours for a table (after being told it would take 45 minutes). It's a good Asian restaurant... It's not really Chinese. It's not really Japanese however they do serve both cuisines... In my opinion, I like their Japanese selection better than their Asian or Chinese selection but it's a nice restaurant with outdoor seating. Sorry but this place just doesn't do it for us. This is the 2nd time we are trying it and the service is just terrible. The servers and hostess all have bad attitudes and when asked simple questions it's like you are bothering them. The place has stuff all over. Every corner inside and outside has stuff and it just doesn't seem neat anywhere. We have also tried takeout from here and both times orders were incorrect and incomplete. Good selection of Chinese and Japanese dishes but only a few Thai selections. The miso soup was good as was the chicken satay. The chicken was flavorful and juicy but the peanut sauce lacked flavor. The pork and chicken gyoza came out hot and crispy with a nice dipping sauce. The crab roll was ok, but small compared to others we've had. We came here on 09/01/2023 there was a lot of good reviews but some but some really bad ones. We gave it try. The view or the lake and the outside patio is very nice. Great summer spot. The food was good not the best I have had but I didn't see all the negatives people were saying. Sushie was fresh but not top tier. Way better then types you see in a buffet. We also had Chinese food we wanted to try a little of everything. The Tom yum soup was delicious and very spicy. Wonton soup was good. Yellow tail jalapeño was really good. Might go again - I've been to Double Ai's 3 times or so now. The first 2 times was a good experience. However, the most recent, 3rd time was quite disappointing. I visited with a number of my friends and their kids. This last experience was not what I was expecting. The problem was when we were being seated. Given the current COVID times, you would think that all restaurants are taking extra care in safety guidelines. This was not the case. When looking around, our group noticed that the seating arrangement was not taking into consideration social distancing. People were seated without table separation as most places are doing now. Because of this, our group asked to be seated at a different table from the one that they were setting up. The second seating arrangement that was being set up was not much different from the initial. It was a corner and last table but right behind another table and customers. Therefore, we asked to be seated at a specific location at the patio which became the only table separated from others. The facial expression that was given to us for asking this was very unpleasant. We should not need to ask for this type of seating arrangement given the current environment. In addition, the workers should not give customers such a displeasured look for asking of such arrangements. COVID safety rules are a given. Either place a note that your restaurant doesn't care about spreading or use common sense. As I am a local and did enjoy the food and outside dining setup near the lake, I may give Double Ai's another chance. However, if I do visit again, it may be the last depending on the service and rude workers, if any, at the time. Highly recommend management to review their workers and following COVID guidelines. read more
