Growing up I loved around here 20+ years and never tried this place. I saw an IG post about it and was intrigued so when I visited Houston I thought I better try it. It's the exact same building - looks like an old school diner but well kept up. I got the Chocolate chip pancakes specifying nothing on top just inside and it came with chips on top. I also got the sausage links which were a little under done and mushy. I didn't love the pancakes they were just ok. My guests got the burger which looked huge and they said good. They also got the chocolate shake which is just the shake on the narrow glass no side cup. I just don't get the hype of this place and raving reviews. Maybe I caught them on an odd day read more

The service was ok here. Our waitress had a sort of humor that fell flat. She took our order, then came back 20 mins later saying she needs to retake our order because she lost the ticket. I guess she had the food expedited or something because it didn't take too long to come out. Then she said "see, y'all was all mad at me and I got the order out quick". Idk why she felt the need to make that comment, of course we'd be upset if our ticket was lost. Then there was a hair found in my brother's food. Dot Coffee Shop! I have to say I've never heard of this place, but I just happened to stumble upon it while visiting Houston for a couple of days. This place felt really nice to be in. I liked the aesthetic of the restaurant, it definitely felt like it had been around for awhile. The tables were nice and clean. It was your average diner atmosphere; people talking their heads off around you and waiters moving back and forth between the kitchen and the dining area. Our waitress was a bit lackluster, although I believe she was probably about as old as the diner itself. No big deal though, our food was accurate and our needs were met. Side note; I have to give my compliments to the chef, the bacon was amazing. I would most likely return if I ever stop by Houston again. It was a good experience. read more

I've seen the place for close to 30yrs. It's right off 45 but I was always going somewhere. Today I stopped because I had time. The menu is full of home cooked comfort food. I chose a cheese burger and it was delicious, the bun was grilled to perfection. The burger was tasty and big enough I took half home. I got a house salad it was big and fresh. Customer service was good and food assortment was very nice and plentiful. The food came out very quickly. We ordered an appetizer it came out in less than 5 minutes and 5-7 minutes later our main course was out too. Maybe ask the waitress to delay your main course if you are buying apps. The.food doesn't come out well seasoned so you will have to season to your preference. Which now days is my preference. The highlight of the visit was their giant oversized cheese sticks. So disappointed! My husband and I recently stopped for breakfast at Dot on our way to Galveston. I will begin with the positive...we were seated immediately and the service was okay. We both ordered scrambled eggs, bacon, and hash browns. Our waitress did not tell us that the hash browns were no longer hash browns, but breakfast potatoes. They no longer serve hash browns... the grated potatoes that cooked crispy. Instead, they serve cubed mushy potatoes that have no flavor we kept adding salt and pepper but nothing made these potatoes tasty. When she came with our check, we asked about the potatoes and she said she should have told us about the "new" hash browns. Unfortunately, all the pictures on YELP show the previously served hash browns that look crispy and delicious. We will never return to Dot. Our waitress did tell us many people are unhappy with the new potatoes. read more

My LAWD yall, so much food whew! This was my 1st visit to Dot's and it was pretty damn good. The atmosphere was clean, homey, and warm. My server was polite and attentive. A note on my server, so at first I thought he was taking forever getting me a refill on the coffee; but then I realized/remembered 2 things... 1. He had more than one table (3, I think..) and 2. I've worked in the service industry for more years than I care to remember and I need not be impatient. He was working hard and my tip reflected my admiration of that. Anyway, let's get to the GOOD stuff! I ordered the fried pork chop breakfast. With that meal you get 2 good sized bone-in fried chops, with choice of eggs, hash browns or grits (I got the hash browns), and choice of white or wheat toast (I got biscuits for 95 cents more...I figured "Why not?! Splurge! Lol). The food came out piping hot and my lawd in LARGE quantities! The pork chops had good flavor and brown gravy on the side for dipping, nomnomnom. The eggs and hash browns were delicious. The biscuits, omg, these folks know how to make some biscuits yall, they were big, fluffy, and buttery, SO DAMN GOOD! I've lived in Houston since 2008 and have driven by this "hidden gem" which is in plain site, for years. I'm so glad I chose to get a late breakfast here. I'll definitely be back. They had amazing looking pie...House of Pies..watch yer back is all I've got to say. The price point is a lil high for my taste for breakfast but we must remember, things have changed so much since Covid. Great place for diner food! We came here for an All American breakfast and was satisfied. We had the Huavos Rancheros which is 2 eggs in top of nacho chips and covered with sauces, peppers, cheese and sausage. This was good except the cops do get soggy. We also had the traditional French toast with sausage. The slices were thick! The fried catfish was came out hot and fresh. Lastly, the country fried steak was bomb! Make sure to ask for sauce on the side if you preferred some crunch. We were served fresh rolls with butter on the house. The bread is baked in house and came out steaming hot! read more

Love this place. Took my cousin here while they were visiting from out of town and both her and her husband loved their food. They ordered the Fried Chicken Strips and Fried Cheese & The French Toast and Strawberries. I was going to order the pancakes w/ham and a side of hash browns but my server recommended the Grand Prix and would sub the eggs (I have an allergy) for the hash browns and sub the ham for the bacon. That was nice of them to have done that. I'd definitely come back again. read more

I hadn't been here in years, but I read recently about how awesome their chicken fried steak was and had a craving. I saw Pappas owned them now, and their food is generally reliable. There is a specials menu that varies from day to day. The chicken fried steak and chicken fried chicken is always on it along with other blue plate specials. You can choose two sides so I chose my usual mashed potatoes and green beans. Delicious!!! Not to much breading, crispy, and substantial. My husband had the burger which he said was great. The only pro, to me, is that they're open 24/7. Came here for brunch with the family and was NOT a fan. Yes, I know, it's a diner not a 5 star restaurant and maybe I'm being a but harsh but honestly I would've preferred Waffle House. The food wasn't seasoned at all. The cafe is the "spot" for hungry folks. The lunch portion of the chicken fried steak was very good, cooked well, not over done. The peas were well seasoned, the potatoes are fresh made and creamy. They brought out warm, lofty, and fresh baked yeast rolls. After you stuff yourself if your brave enough to get some mile high cream pie you will be in the food coma range of being. The coconut cream is like homemade with real whip cream on top. The strawberry pie reminds me of the one Furr's Pie Kitchen made, that used to be in Lubbock a long time ago. Been coming here for years and have lived through their perpetual staffing issues, but thought was behind them until this morning. Should have known I was going to be in for a bad experience when I got a less than enthusiastic welcome from the host staff. The hostess sat us the two of us immediately next to the side of the hostess stand right in the main traffic aisle. If that was the only seating available it would have been fine, but there were other options a few booths back that were open. I politely asked to be relocated and was rudely informed that area was presently closed. Seemed odd but ok. Waitress came up immediately asked for our drink order, we ordered coffee and two mimosas like we do most every Saturday morning which is usually between 8:00-8:15 am when we go for breakfast. Today was told no alcohol before 10 am, we inquired when the rules changed as was told it has always been that way. She said she would check with the manager and returned to the table not 30 seconds later and said her manager confirmed 10 am. It was at this point I noticed that the people that walked in behind us were seated in the "closed" area. At this point I decided it was time to leave, and informed the waitress and we left. If you are in Houston and near the airport.... Dot's is the spot for the best omelettes in town. I had the Houston omelette. It was filling and probably one of the best omelettes I've ever had. Very clean restaurant with TVs and a large Menu to chose from. It's kinda like a small café feeling with plenty of seating. This was my first time here at dots coffee and shop. The food is really good. I got the breakfast feast with strawberry pancakes with pecan on top with hashbrowns, eggs, sausage, bacon, and ham. I would recommend this place the food comes out fast and hot. We stopped by the dot shop about 1130 on a Thursday night. It wasn't crowded but there were definitely customers seated throughout the dining room. Our server was very personable and attentive. He did a great job. The food was good. My husband had a breakfast with biscuits and gravy, hashbrowns and two eggs. He had to take half home. I had the Philly cheesesteak and also had to take half home. It was just as I remembered it since the last time I've been there 20 years ago. But in a good way it wasn't too dated it just seemed just right like being in the Brady Bunch house, I definitely recommend way better than Denny's or IHOP and it's open 24 seven. read more

Great little 24-hoir diner to curb those carb cravings. I woke up this week craving blueberry pancakes, and Dots offers just that! I got a stack of two, which come with hand whipped cream, powdered sugar and pecans. I could have done without the extra sugars. The pancake was really good. I'm not sure how they got the edges so thin and crispy, but I'm impressed. I've been to Dots once before, but just for a coffee meeting. It was nice to sit down and grab a bite. Servers are really friendly -- the diner kind of friendly. With a bit of sas and Southern charm. I like it. Most of the menu items have cheese, butter, eggs or some sort of animal product. If you want vegan options, you're left with fruit, salad and maaaaybe some veggies (ask about the butter situation). I haven't tried any of their pies, but you can buy by the slice or the whole pie. Since this diner is affiliated with with Pappas restaurants, you know at least the cheesecake is gonna taste good. read more

What if Pappa's Bros. Steakhouse ran a diner? You'd have Dot Coffee Shop. Literally, that's what this is. We stopped by recently for a late dinner. The chicken finger combo had an excellent coating, while the grilled chicken sandwich was perfectly crispy. Refills kept coming, and the place was spotless. Compared to a dinner outing to House of Pies in the past year, Dot was night and day (though, House of Pies still wins on breakfast and pie). The surroundings were spotless and security watched after the parking lot. Service was great until the food arrived, and then we seemed oddly forgotten about for 20 minutes. But no big deal. Once we requested the check, it was no issue closing out quickly. Dot is a little out of my core Montrose/Upper Kirby/Heights territory, but it's well worth the adventure when you're looking for great food late at night. read more

I had always seen this from the highway and thought it was weird looking - maybe run-down, probably not very popular. I was WRONG. They have amazing service, even though busy seated almost immediately. Plenty of parking out back also and clean bathrooms. We ordered breakfast food special of the day, orange juice, coffee, eggs, etc and it was delicious. This is a great breakfast/brunch/lunch spot, meeting place, quick in-and-out meal if you're on the road. At least that was my experience. I'll likely be back! read more
