Let start off by saying this is the third time I've traveled through Elko and ate at this restaurant. First two go arounds were spot on. This time wow what a difference. Due to the pandemic taking place they only offered curbside takeout. This was fine with the exception of their food quality. I ordered the two amigos shrimp special and I must say nothing was special. I received 6 overcooked rubbery shrimp laid on top of a bed of rice that was subpar at best. It had grilled veggies to include carrots, squash and onion. On the side was a small cup of white cheese sauce that tasted like the cheese dip you get out of a velveta container. Needless I was charged $12.99 for this disaster and another .75 for three flour tortillas. They then charged me .25 for each piece packaging for takeout even though it wasn't my choice. I can see needing the business in trying times, but stop gouging the little business you have. Staff was polite on the phone and in person. They also charged for the small bag of chips and salsa that was tomato saucy at best. Sad as I was looking forward to the meal I had a couple years ago. read more

Pricey for fajitas, which, I may say, were pretty poor overall. I was wondering if I should offer to run to the nearby grocery story to get some red, orange, and yellow peppers. Great COVID-19 precaution practicing. To be honest, we selected this restaurant based on its walking distance to our hotel. Lucky for us, it was a good choice. Meg took our take-away order at the cash register. She was super friendly and helpful. When she realized we wanted to wait outside, she offered to bring our order out to us when it was ready. I was even able to sip a margarita while we waited in the heat :-) We didn't check our order until we got all the back to our hotel room, but all was well. Order was perfect, she packed the utinsels, and even packed us chips and salsa! Pork carnitas were delicious and enough for two meals. The burrito was good as well. Scrumptious beans. I don't think we will make it through Elko again in the future, but if we do find ourselves in Elko, we will definitely stop here again. read more

Was hoping for a good meal the night before Thanksgiving. It was busy, so I was expecting something good. They were able to sit me quickly but it was several minutes before my waitress ever showed up. By the time she did arrive I had already looked over the menu several times and decided on my order. I ordered the Jalisco Fajitas. They came out fast so that was nice. However, they had very little flavor it was all very plain and boring. The beef, chicken, and shrimp had no seasoning at all. And the chorizo was not near as tasty as I have had at several other restaurants. Maybe they were having an off night but it wasn't the good meal I was hoping for. Oh and back to the waitress. She dropped of my bill while I was still eating the rest of my chips. I put a $20 bill in the folder and laid it down for her get when she back through. Later , while I had lingered at the table waiting for her to come get the folder, I just decided to leave. I did see her just as I was walking out the door. I had dinner at Dos Amigos. The food was good. The queso dip is great. My burrito was tasty and everyone that went with me had good food as well. There was a live musician playing, who really added to the atmosphere. Their air handling system does not turn over the air in the restaurant frequently enough, so the fajita smoke/steam seems to linger for an extended amount of time. I came to eat here at Dos Amigos for the very first time I came from Reno and was craving to order soup. Which to my surprise they don't serve soups on Sundays. disappointed!!!! Well knowing that I'm an expert in cooking Authentic Mexican food since I am from Mexico City I thought I was going to get a taste of my Native culinary delicious food here. NOT THE CASE !!!!!!! horrible Food, poor service and prices were way too high for what bad food you get. I asked the waitress if she knew the difference between Chiles Rellenos and Chiles Poblanos of course she didn't know. She brought I guess the owner or Manager and had told me a weird explanation about the chiles. Which didn't make since to me but oh well left it like that. I order a molcajete and their molcajete consists of a small chipped dish that had spicy extra extra salted spicy tomato sauce served with slices of tender chicken breast and slices of steak. Disgusting taste beside I thought a molcajete means... A molcajete ([molkaxete]; Mexican Spanish, from Nahuatl molcaxitl) is a stone tool, the traditional Mexican version of the mortar and pestle, similar to the South American batan, used for grinding various food product. Where they usually serve the chicken, or any type of meat along with roasted chili peppers and onions. Like I say not this meal. Soooooo disappointed!!!! Didn't even get Tortillas with my order how sad. Waitress was new as a waitress from what I found out. Again I did complain about how salty my food was and they changed it for chile Poblanos. Once again they where stuffed chile Rellenos and couldn't believe that my eyes where seeing all the seeds inside the chiles. So unprofessional and irritating for me to know this people have the nerve to serve chiles with seeds. Awful food!!! Cheese inside is the wrong cheese to use for that type of chile. Grossly oily and extra melted disgusting cheese. We don't use mozzarella cheese in our Native Mexico we use Panela cheese so the chiles won't taste nasty like theirs. I also order flan and can't express enough how bad everything was tasting. Bad overcooked flan. Rice was awful too. Don't come here don't recommend it !!!! I didn't even ate most of it. Had to leave my plate almost full with the food. Never plan to visit here again. One more thing their salsas are the store bought in bulk salsas that are not made there in the restaurant. I can tell when a real salsa is made from scratch versus the ones bought from Costco, Smart & Final or Cash and Carry. The stores that many restaurants use to buy to supply their bulk merchandise. They all have the same aftertaste flavor and sauce seem diluted. The only thing I liked their was the location of the building. read more

Stopped as we were traveling through Elko and needed to get out, stretch and have a quick lunch. Choices were KFC, Taco Bell and here. No inside service at KFC (yay!), neither of us are fans of Taco Bell so took a chance ...My husband is extremely glad we did, he said his shrimp tacos were in top 5 of shrimp tacos he's ever had, and he has had shrimp tacos all over the U.S. Only ones better were on the coast where the shrimp were fresh the day he ate them. My enchiladas were good too. The service was good and everything looked very clean. Next trip this way may include an overnight stop as we had outstanding Italian food here in Elko (Luciano's) on a previous visit. read more

We dined here Sunday evening. My husband ordered the fish tacos and sent them back. He says they were the worst tacos he has ever tasted. He asked for a simple quesadilla to replace the fish, which the restaurant reluctantly provided. They did NOT remove the cost of the fish tacos from our bill. On the road, one has many opportunities for fast food. It was lunchtime and we saw the ever loved Taco Bell sign off the freeway, got off and then the daughter notices this place which is still Mexican but "real" and not "fast". We all agree to give it a try and while it wasn't horrible, we all agree we could have been happier with the cost and familiarity of Taco Bell. There is another one of these restaurants attached to the Holiday Inn we stayed in while in Winnemucca so I figure it must be a bum fuck type of town type of chain. I ordered a combo of a chicken taco and shredded beef tostada with rice and beans. The daughter had the steak chimichanga and the man had chile verde. The chimichanga was smothered in cheese sauce. One might think this would be awesome, but it looked nasty and the daughter who LOVES cheese did not like it much. The chile verde was decent and my combo was lackluster. The beans were the best part of the meal. Sadly at $9.00 per dish and 2 beverages that were never refilled, this lunch cost us $35.00 in bum fuck Nevada.... read more

We were on the way through Elko by long road trip and were in the mood for and ready for chips/salsa and food! The chips were great. The salsa wasn't that great. Until we asked for the extra hot salsa- which was more flavorful. When we walked in, the place was smokey as hell!! Turns out their specialty is fajitas. They did not disappoint!! Great flavor, and on a traditional cast iron skillet with excellent grilled onions. The beans lacked flavor, the original salsa lacked flavor. They could be so much better. When we needed to stop for a break on our trip, we pulled into the first exit that showed some life. Looked around and saw this place. We decided to stop on and grab a quick bite. The first thing we saw and heard was a man singing with a guitar that sounded like a cat being choked. Poor guy, he tried and I give him that. We sat down and ordered. I had a taco and enchilada combo and it wasn't that bad. The salsa that we got was good and so was the beans that we got to dip our chips in. This must be a thing out here because I saw it at a few other restaurants we went to, but never in California. This place was your typical chain type restaurant, nothing more then a Chevys or El Toritos in my opinion, it was crowded and safe. It cant compare with a good wholesome taqueria but as long as you go in with those expectations there wont be an surprises. Our waitress was nice and very attentive and the food was above par. I was a little disappointed with the cleanliness of the bathrooms. When we were in Winnemucca a few days later we saw another one, but had to pass. This place is fantastic. I have never had a bad experience here. I am always greeted warmly as soon as we enter. Like everyone else we always start with a serving of chips and salsa. The chips are, well, chips but the salsa is great! It's a mild salsa with wonderful flavor. If you order drinks from the bar you are going to get your money's worth. No watered down weak drinks here. The food is wonderful, and well done. Not that I have tried everything on the menu but what I have, I've never been disappointed. Coming from South Texas I am always partial to good fajitas. 95% of the time they are right on. The few times they aren't its just a personal thing. I enjoy my fajitas with a little scald on them. I almost always get the steak and chicken fajitas. The tortillas are fresh soft and warm. Nothing old and stale here. My wife loves their Carna Asada. I too enjoy it and make sure to finish what my wife doesn't. If you leave here hungry it is your own fault. I have yet to be able to finish everything they bring out to you, altough I give it a heack of a try. We try to eat here atleast once per week. When we do we most definitely do so on a Thursday or Saturday. These are they best time to get some amazing live entertainment from Billy Rose. Hands down my favorite local performer. This is my favorite sit-down mexican restaurant in town. (I consider Sergio's more fast food.) What brings me back over and over is their chicken tortilla soup. You have to try it. Otherwise, they have a fantastic brunch on Sundays that I really recommend, their enchiladas are delish and their shredded pork is amazing in anything. My boyfriend got the molcajete Jalisco: no flavor, missing/incorrect toppings, rice wasn't cooked, whole beans instead of refried beans. A great place to have large parties! I went to this place for a holiday function with 20+ people. The food was authentic mex. and good. Our food was brought out much faster than we thought it would! I ordered a Frozen margarita which was delicious and packed a punch ;)! I ordered chicken chimichanga for my main course and the queso was perfect. However I'm used to deep fried chimichangas so this softer version took me by surprise. They had a live guitar player playing Christmas carols/Spanish ballads which really added to the atmosphere. They also have a full bar near the entrance and plenty of seating with two event spaces. A great place for a workplace get together or family event. I wish they had a better/updated check system. They had to manually separate our checks within our large party because their system wouldn't allow it/would crash. read more

Second positive experience here! My bar tender Stephen was excellent! Mellow, well tempered, and keeps his bar well! My food was the same great taste as it was last year, it's nice to see constancy. I was there on a Thursday night as had the pleasure of listening to Billy Rose, an outstanding singer song writer. Good food. I'm glad I made it in. I had a very good experience here. A very nice young lady sat us. When I asked If she would turn on the football game, she was happy to oblige. After turning on the game she sent our server over, who was just as nice and helpful. Sorry I didn't get your names to praise you, but you both did an outstanding job. I do have the server id#, 28. On to the food. Good flavor, good presentation (I love the whole sizzling fajitas thing.) Big portion of food. didn't think I could finish it all. Dug down deep and got it done. Last bite was as good as the first. My beverage never went empty, and that's a big deal for me. It's how I judge attentiveness. The place was busy looked more like a Friday than a Monday. The staff had no problem keeping up. MICROWAVED chile relleno and tamales! YUCK! I've been here several times and usually the food and service are good. However, during a recent visit, service was very slow. I ordered a chile relleno as a side and when it came out, you could tell that all they did was pull it out of the freezer, throw some sauce on it and nuke it. The sauce had boiled out and was cratered on the plate...typical of microwaving a sauce. My wife ordered a tamale on the side which came out with a disgusting brown sauce on it and the ends of the tamale were dried out and hard from being in the microwave. Both dishes were not edible. Our waitress never came to give refills and when she finally did, she asked if I had Pepsi. I said that I had Dr. Pepper. She came back with root beer. We had to wait about 15 minutes for our check after she took it. I didn't look at the check, gave here a $100 bill because I wanted to expedite the payment. When she came back with my change, there wasn't a receipt. How was I supposed to know if her change was correct without a receipt? She did bring one after I asked for it. Overall, she was much slower and less attentive than the other waitresses who were serving other tables, even though she only had three tables to take care of. I've had good food here in the past but to be served microwaved food and have terrible service is appalling. I won't be going back. read more

This seems to be a really hit or miss type of restaurant. I have eaten here several times. Sometimes it is amazing and I would give them 4-5 stars. Other times, they definitely deserve 1-2 starts. I can see not pattern in when they are amazing and when they aren't though. On weekends, they have a guy play old country music and his guitar. Last week's experience involved us ordering food and then I had to take my child to the bathroom. When we got back to our table, other people were sitting there and eating food!!! We weren't gone more than 10 minutes. It was the strangest experience as we hadn't even gotten food yet and all we had done was ordered. The waitress finally appeared and said that she thought we had left! Umm, no. Went to the bathroom. They squished us into a corner table of the restaurant (it was really busy) and re-took our order. Have been here before and usually it's fairly good this Sunday though when I went in they were out of more than one thing on the menu that I requested so I offered to pay my bill and then leave so they brought me a bill for one soft drink which was $2.67 with tax. I gave the guy a 20 and he handed me back 17..so I asked for the rest of my change was.. he then informed me that they just round up or down.. and they do not keep money in the register so I had to wait for them to get it from the office.. seems like a poor business practice to me read more

Immediately upon walking in on a Saturday night I was greeted, led to my table, and brought chips, salsa, and beans. Much to my delight one of Elko's amazing local musicians Billy Nevada Rose serenaded us with beautiful folk and old school country music while we ate. Everything was great! We took a huge party (30 people from 3 families) into the restaurant for a post-graduation party. The restaurant was packed, so even though we had a reservation, we had to wait quite a while to be seated. We were given our own room and our own waiter. Since there were so many in our group, we were offered the choice of ordering "family style", off the menu, or having a "fajita bar" set up. The majority of guests chose the fajita bar, and the rest ordered from the menu. The fajitas were very good, according to the Latino families and the teenage boys I brought. (I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, so I ordered off the menu). There were plenty of fixings, and drinks and churros for desert were included. I thought it was a little pricey ($16) for the fajita bar, but I don't mind paying for food people enjoy. The restaurant was clean, the staff was VERY friendly, and there was live music on a Saturday afternoon. The owners were right in there with the staff, busing tables, serving food, etc. Overall, it's a really nice place and very popular with the locals. read more

In the past the food has been pretty good, last week our family went there and I was very disappointed in my meal. I ordered chicken fajitas, when the food arrived it was luke warm and it looked like the chicken was steamed without any fajita sauce and the veggies were way over cooked. When I sent a facebook message to the restaurant the reply was we are sorry and we want to make it up to you to experience the real Dos Amigos experience. I replied to their private message and said that would be fine, what do you plan on doing? That was the last I heard from them. I will never step foot in the restaurant again as there are two others that are better than this place. I have eaten here a few times now and everything that I have had has been outstanding. The first time I ate there the girl got my order wrong I had ordered the Burrito del Mar and I got a chicken burrito. I ate it anyway and it was great. I ate here yesterday and had the Dos Amigos Fajita which came out hot and great tasting. The chips and salsa are also great. The service and waiters have been outstanding every time I have been there. If you're looking for Mexican food this is the perfect place to eat.
