My husband and I ate at Dos Amigos for the first time in a couple of years. Today the food was horrible!! I had fish tacos that were on the special. The fish was so spoiled I could not get it past my nose. The beans tasted like miricle whip which left the tasteless rice. We paid $23 for a meal I could not eat. This really good Mexican food. The salsa and chips are great. The chimichanga is fantastic, as is El Burrito.

I would not recommend this resturant unless you like your food pre cooked then kept in warmers and microwaved for faster service. The burnt smell and dried texture is not appetizing. My prawns were so tough and nearly impossible to get out of their shells. Only thing that tasted good were the beans served with the store bought chips prior to dinner. read more

Don't order fish tacos! I ordered them and it was the worst mistake! When I received the fish tacos, the tortillas were cold, and the fish was mush!! It looked so gross! Actually, it WAS gross! I had to get the lime off my wife's margarita and drench my tacos with lime to get some sort of flavor out of them! Last I came I ordered their seafood soup and that was pretty bad too. Great margaritas and love the hot beans that accompany the chips and salsa. My tostada and chili relleno was pretty good and my spouse enjoyed his burrito and enchilada. It's typical Americanized Mexican fare, nothing real special, but tasty and filling. We'll be back. read more

My wife and I have been coming here for 6 years now, till lately we have wonderful service and amazing food. Lately we will sit at the table sometimes 15 minutes before our check is brought or a drink is refilled. The food is still great so I'm sure the issue remains on the floor. Best sit down Mexican place in Elko. Great atmosphere and service. The chicken enchiladas suiza are very good, best thing they have. They seem to be known for their enchiladas. Taco salads and fajitas are also decent. They have a Sunday brunch buffet which I haven't tried but looks yummy. Tortilla soup is also great. read more

Went to supper there this evening. I ordered the Dos Amigos fajitas. They were wonderful. The shrimp, chicken and steak were moist and seasoned to perfection. The onions and bell peppers were great. It was all I could do to not lick the cast iron. Sarah (the manager) came around to the tables and inquired if everything was okay (which it was) and when I asked her if I could get a couple more tortillas (flour) she went and got them for me (needed them to eat the left over onions and peppers - a meal by themselves). Dos Amigos has always been a favorite place of mine but my most recent visit was more than disappointing. I ordered the fajita burrito and when it came, it was cold and had what appeared to be a piece of steel from a scrub pad. I gave it to my waitress and agreed to let them bring me a new plate of the same thing. The owner promptly arrives with a new plate. Immediately I notice what appears to be a fiber from what might be from a kitchen rag... it was blue fiber and when I told the owner, who was still at my table, he said it was part of the lettuce and I showed him it clearly was not. He wanted to bring me another plate but I said no thanks. He didn't charge me for that but charged me for my friends meal. I personally think he should have not charged me for anything and, as he offered, but never followed through with, a certificate for another visit. I won't be back. Very disappointed. No stars! I'm very 'iffy' when it comes to Mexican food, usually I leave a place feeling little over full and not as happy as I wanted to be. However Dos Amigos was absolutely delicious. I live in Reno and I go to Elko once a month for work. Dos Amigos is by the by far the best Mexican Restaurant in Elko. The service is always friendly and I've never had anything that I did not like there. Carne Asada and the Fajitas are always great. Food and drinks are fairly priced. The menu offers VEGETARIAN dishes but be warned - they use lard and chicken stock in the beans and the rice!! I specifically asked my server and she assured me vegetable oil only.
