Overall this once amazing bakery has lost its touch. I have been a faithful customer here for over 15 yrs. But on two occasions I have ordered custom cakes both both with pictures and details and pay a hefty price because based on previous orders they always exceeded my expectations. But on these last two orders they where total fail. They didn't do anything I asked. The cakes looked nothing like the pictures I brought in. Obviously they are not going to be exact but NOTHING.... Come in. To boot I had to wait on a line for and one hour to pick up the cakes. An hour with 7-8 helpers behind the counters. An hour so I was late to the party and my cakes were wrong. If you are celiac or highly gluten intolerant, you should avoid this place. Also if you value your time. I am very gluten intolerant and ordered a gluten-free black forest cake for 11 AM pick up last Saturday. Waited 45 minute on the order pick up line to be served, while the sole counter person took her sweet time bring orders out, chit chatting with friends and not pulling the 5 other people working in the bakery to speed up the queue. To add insult to injury, the cake apparently was cross contaminated with gluten because I got my gluten symptoms like clockwork within the usual time period from ingestion to symptoms. Luckily, it didn't appear that they used regular flour because my symptoms were less severe than if I had ingested regular cake, so it must be from cross contamination. read more

Finally tried the infamous Dortoni's! Line was out the door yesterday but moved as fast as they possibly could. I was in awe with the abundance amount of desserts they offered, especially for Valentine's Day! Cakes lined the glass as well as cookies and pastries. They also had a wide selection of cakes and cookies for Mardi Gras. They are known for their rainbow cookie cannoli cake and I was so excited to finally try it! WOW, talk about amazing!!!! I know this is a popular flavor for wedding cakes and I can see why! I was really eager to try the chocolate fudge cupcakes but unfortunately they had none. They made chocolate buttercream cupcakes instead in the back for me but I was not in love with the taste. My fiancé loved his linzer torte cookies, but the butter cookies with jelly were super, super hard. My mom enjoyed her chocolate strawberries and said the place was very good. I got married at the Watermill on 4/28/24. Our Cake came from Dortoni Bakery and it was Absolutely Perfect!. During our tasting I was nervous, the pieces of cake I tried were a little too soft and crumbly Jessica@Dortonibakery quickly explained to me the process of how the cake is moistened and didn't hesitate to place Into the notes exactly what type of texture I wanted. Jessica also went out of her way to show me a design of a cake that Dortoni was currently working on because it was similar to what I wanted. Jessica's customer service, eye for detail, and responsiveness helped make my day. The cake turned out beautifully and it tasted just as good. I have ordered birthday and Mother's Day cakes with raving fans from Manhattan to Suffolk. You are transported to Napoli in Italy when you enter this bakery on the SW corner of Hempstead Tpke and Gardiners Ave. It is bright and colorful with this intoxicating aroma. The U shaped display is exquisite and addicting as you make your way from the cookies, the biscotti, breads, muffins to the tortes, the assortment of pies and cakes. The staff is very warm, proactive and on the ball. They really serve with class and courtesy and are very meticulous in the presentation and packaging. If there is a line, it moves quickly!!! This Levittown location is open daily from 7 am to 8 pm. They do have a sister store in Commack as well. I used to buy at Dortoni (Levittown) for each celebration in the family because everything was delicious.For the last 2 years it started to taste different, the same as the boxed mix from cheap stores. The cookies were still tasty, buttery and decently sweetened.Last week we bought our favorite cookies from this store and were extremely sweet and tasting like artificial flavors. There is no line or order of who gets served next. No one greets you. When I asked if they had any chocolate cake, they said yes and sold me a heart shaped chocolate cake. The girl that helped me said "it was all chocolate" but I embarrassedly found later as Birthday boy cuts into it that it was cheesecake, a salty cheesecake which he does not eat. Would give 0 stars if possible. My fiancée has food allergies and we were looking to get our wedding cake through them. She spent 3 phone calls talking through her exact allergies and what the options were that she could have or not. Only for us to show up to the actual cake tasting and them tell us she cant eat any of the cakes but still brought out the cake to us. The fact that they knew the allergies, had them written down and knew she could not eat cake but still let us show up to the tasting is terrible customer service. Lack of oversight from management. And actually quite disrespectful and rude to their potential clientele. Saying "sorry" after us driving 35 minutes to a cake tasting where we cannot actually tase the cake because it is made with soy flour (which is disgusting in and of itself) is not enough. read more

As a customer for 23 years, Dortoni's was always the absolute go-to spot for desserts. Want to impress your guests or your hosts? You get Dortoni's. Worth the 20 minute drive for me, the getting in line on a holiday morning, the 30-45 minute wait when you grab a ticket, etc. I have never tasted anything better than their petit fours and every thing else I have tried over the years was incredible. Until today. Went in this Sunday morning and was surprised to see how bare their shelves were. I thought, wow, they must have really gotten cleaned out today, even though it was only noon and the place was so empty that they weren't using the ticket system. I noticed that some of the cakes, usually so unbelievably perfect looking, were misshapen and a little sloppy in decoration. I went to the trusty petit four section and was shocked to immediately notice that they had shrunk to almost half the size. I asked for a half dozen of them and a half dozen rainbow cookies, which are normally so moist and delicious. The girl threw them (literally, more on that later) in a box and asked me what else I wanted. I pointed out a tart I wanted and when I looked back at her, she was gone. I had to have another girl go find her, and she finished helping me by handing my boxes in a bag that was so wrinkled, it looked like it had been used by dozens of customers. I'm all about recycling, but it was a weird look for such a high end bakery. Once in the car, I opened the bag and was shocked to see that there was no string nor tape securing the boxes closed. When did they stop doing that?? One box was opening from the side, and my white petit fours had streaks of black all over the top of them, resembling dirt or worse. Even though it doesn't look like chocolate, I am hoping it was from the haphazard way the girl threw the rainbow cookies in with them. Given all this, I couldn't wait to eat them--that's where the real disappointment comes in. Both items were STALE as could be, like take one bite and spit it out stale. Thank God I just bought these for home and not for a party, I would have been mortified. They also changed an ingredient in the petit fours, as they now have a lemony taste to them (maybe to cut costs and replace a more expensive almond ingredient?) What a major disappointment from a place we have loved for over two decades. One other major thing--while there I witnessed two separate customers having major problems with orders they previously placed. One guy's order they had no record of, even though he had an order confirmation and showed it to them. The other customer ordered a cake that apparently looked so unlike what they were trying to pass off to her that she was freaking out because it was for her daughter's party that day. They wouldn't give her a refund either, saying she had to drive to Port Jeff because that's where she originally ordered it from. Terrible customer service all around. I seriously think they over-extended themselves opening 3 other locations within the last couple of years and their quality is now worse than a nameless bakery in a dead strip mall. Stopped by here randomly looking for a cake. When I arrived, the place was PACKED. I went on one of 2 lines and another customer told me one line was for pickup and one was for ordering and that I needed a number. I grabbed a number and saw I was #76 and they were up to #65, I figured okay, not too bad if there are this many people, it must be good. Well, in 18 minutes only 2 numbers were called. At this point I was frustrated and figured I put the time in I may as well wait it out. There were only 2 people taking orders who moved very slow and customers who took forever to decide what they want! In the end, I waited for 47 minutes and that is only because 4 people ahead of me left, so really 47 minutes for 5 customers!! Insane. I got the Angelica cake, chocolate with raspberry, a mini cannoli, mini Napolean, rainbow cookies and pignoli cookies to try. I took a bite of the cannoli when I got in the car, and I literally had to pull over and spit it out - it was DISGUSTING!! The cookies were meh and the cake was ok. The girls that use to work there were always professional and nice, not ant anymore, they are indifferent and rude at times, but the bakery products that use to be top notch are stale, small, cheap ingredients now and cheap looking packaged cookies, stale bread, and LOTS of foolish mistakes on orders, Can only assume its from rude new managers and no one wants to speak up, after 35 yrs of being the best around, they are now the bottom of the barrell. Out of this world bakery! They totally live up to their name and i don't know where to begin. My wedding cake will taste amazing, the tasting itself was awesome and i'm so glad we got to try 6 out of 30 fillings. My favorite was the fresh fruit in custard and also raspberry or peach. Big and thick enough to share with few people. The variety of cream puffs were exciting, bite size, and came out only $1.35 each (charge $19 per lb). BEWARE - ROACHES! I visited on 10/20/23 to place an order for a cake. A roach crawled across the counter in front of me and I jumped. The girl helping me apologized, killed it, and had a few laughs with the employees around her. I guess roaches are a regular occurrence here? She told the manager what I saw and the manager did not seem concerned at all. Did not come to apologize for what I saw, just told the employee to tell me that they were getting an exterminator. Before I walked out, I saw another roach crawling up the wall and pointed it out. I can only imagine how many roaches they have crawling in the back where they make the food. I did not get my cake here obviously. Very thankful I decided to walk in instead of calling in my order. Who knows what little surprises I would have found in my cake. I sadly have to lower my score because I bought a cake with much excitement for my holiday gathering with friends and it was not a success. I wanted something a little different and bought a chocolate velvet cake with brandy and raspberry mousse. I was thinking it would be chocolatey with this yummy raspberry sweetness and a kick of brandy but instead it didn't taste much of anything unfortunately. Maybe a little chocolatey because of the fudge icing but that's it. It was fairly dry with no real taste just a sugar taste. So disappointed. This place was a disappointment. My cousins ordered their gender reveal cake here. Even though they ordered the cake ahead of time, they still had to wait 40 minutes to pick up. The cake itself looked nice, nothing particularly special. BUT THEN. The gender reveal cake did not reveal the gender. No pink or blue frosting inside. What?! Very disappointing. My pregnant cousin was very sad and everyone else at the party was in disbelief. Even more disheartening is that when they went back to the bakery to complain, they were told that this happens all the time. The owner refused to come out and talk to them. So unprofessional. I was in search of a bakery that had amazing tres leches cakes for my brother's birthday on MLK Day and stumbled upon Dortoni Bakery. There is plenty of parking as it is located in one of those outdoor shopping centers. Upon entering you're supposed to take a ticket (I didn't because there weren't that many customers waiting and I was helped within minutes). I went there on MLK Day (Monday) around 1PM. They had a LOT of beautiful cakes and baked goods on display and right away I saw the tres leches cakes on a shelf with a "tres leches" sign (there were 4; 3 with neon green ribbon and 1 with purple ribbon). The staff member helping me was very nice and when I asked if they had any signs that said Happy Birthday, she told me they did and asked me the name I wanted and if a green color would be okay since it would match the ribbon around the cake. I think the plaque was edible (looked like white chocolate to me but we didn't try to eat it after the cake was cut later). I paid with credit card (not sure if there is a minimum). The cake was $30. My parents and brother raved about the flavor and my brother almost ate the entire cake by himself LOL. I would definitely return to purchase more of their goods but I had my eye on their rainbow cookie cake for my fiance because he is a HUGE rainbow cookie addict! read more

My birthday was this past week, a buddy of mine who works out in Long Island decided to give me a small piece of cake so that I could start my celebration. Apparently, this place is very popular out in Long Island and she was a big fan. While I was informed the box was dropped prior to me getting it, it didn't seem like there was any damage. I had a slice of Dulce De Leche, which I didn't think was that great. I mean it might have to do with her long drive from Long Island back to Manhattan but to me, it was just average. However, I also had a piece of cheesecake and I was a huge fan of that. I was very pleased with the richness and the texture. While I don't think I'll be taking a drive out to Long Island for Cake, I'd certainly be willing to try both another cheesecake and make some of the different cakes this place has to offer.
