I'm extremely disappointed with the service I received. I've been a loyal customer of Dortoni's for years, but since the new ownership took over, the quality of service has steadily declined. I placed an order for my daughter's day and was instructed to handle everything through email. After multiple back-and-forth messages confirming the details, I was told the order would be ready for pickup on Sunday at 9 AM. At no point was I informed that full payment or even a deposit was required to secure the order. I also attempted to call several times but was unable to reach anyone. Given this experience, I will no longer be placing orders with them and will be sharing my experience with others. read more

Dortoni's makes the best Black and White cookie in Long Island (that I've tried). The B&Ws are freshly made, or were when I arrived. The white (vanilla) was my favorite on this cookie; it tasted good and had a great hard-ish shell. I liked the black (chocolate) too and it smelled amazing, but the flavor was a bit too rich. Dortoni Bakery is an old school Italian bakery, in Levittown. Family owned since 1976. This was my first time at Dortoni's, it certainly won't be my last. I live in Brooklyn, trust me it's worth a trip. I have absolutely fallen in love with Dortoni's. It was extremely busy, but the wait time went quickly. I spent my time looking at all the incredible goodies that filled the display cases. It was so hard to choose since, everything looks mouthwatering. They have the best black & white cookies, Napoleon's, cannolis, rainbow, cookies, and pignoli cookies. Their breads were delicious, as were the tres leches cake. They had beautiful Pride cookies too! I drove to Dortoni bakery from queens to get their Milky Way cake. This has been my favorite cake for years. The cake I purchased tasted like it wasn't fresh. The icing was hard in the middle and the caramel wasn't soft either. I also got Italian bread which was tasteless. It was such a let down to my family. Over the years, I've made several purchases for various celebrations and even referred many customers. This year, my retired mother was adamant about ordering a cake for my birthday, which was last weekend. Together, we placed an order for Dortoni's red velvet cake, trusting them to deliver the exceptional product we'd always received in the past. Unfortunately, that was not the case this time. The cake we received was nothing like the vibrant, bright red velvet cakes we were accustomed to. The flavor was completely off--it did not taste like red velvet at all. Instead, it resembled a blend of carrot cake with a dull, unappealing dark red color. When I returned to town, I contacted the bakery to express my disappointment. The manager, Rudy, asked me to bring in a slice of the cake, which I did. Without even tasting it, he insisted it was not carrot cake. My birthday evening had already been ruined after discovering this poorly made version of what should have been a classic red velvet cake. Rather than offering a full refund or full store credit, I was only offered $75 of the $150 spent--or the option to have another red velvet cake remade. I found it unreasonable to expect that I would trust them to remake the same cake after they mishandled the original order and admitted that this particular cake batter is not even made in-house but purchased from a third party. Customers choose Dortoni for authenticity, not outsourced products and poor quality. Rudy said he would contact his leadership team to see what more could be done and promised to call me the following day. That call never came. After calling the bakery multiple times with no answer, I finally called from a different number--someone picked up but immediately placed me on hold and never returned. I was forced to waste additional gas and time visiting the bakery in person to follow up. I waited over an hour to speak with the manager, received no apology for the wait, and was met with dismissive, condescending remarks. To avoid prolonging this ordeal or causing a scene, I reluctantly accepted the $75 store credit--though I told them I would likely give it away because this experience left a bad taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. I wasted gas driving to the bakery twice, and even had to cancel a session with a client to deal with this situation. This is a matter of principle and fairness. I recently needed to pick up a Gluten Free cake that was ordered from Dortoni's. When you walk in you automatically know this bakery has just about everything. The counters were clean and while the store was crowded they had enough help to keep things moving. I'm not a big fan of gluten free but the cake from Dortoni's bakery was excellent. The cake was gorgeous and very delicious. If I didn't know better I would not have known it was gluten free. Great bakery but every time I come in here there's only 1 or 2 people helping customers at the counter. Not worth wait if!

I've tried this place a number of times hoping it'll get better but it doesn't- a year or two ago I got a cake for christmas here and it was packed- there was a big "line" but really it was just a bunch of people crammed into the bakery- nobody knew where the "line" actually was. After 15-25 mins one of the girls came over and was like "wait did everyone take a ticket?" but this whole time the tickets were crammed and stuck in the machine so nobody had been using them. I've also come here a number of times on regular weekdays- the pastries are nothing to write home about they've been slightly stale a number of times and i find them to be a little pricey. The customer service is a hit or miss sometimes i go in and they're nice and other times i'm completely rushed and not even able to take a look before someone's bombarding me to order. My last visit to Dortoni Bakery 2 years ago was not good and decided to give them another chance today. My experience today was just as bad. The cannoli I craved was hallow in the center. Cannoli filling was only at the ends. The cannoli shell was stale & almost broke a tooth on it. My wife's cannoli cream lacked chocolate chips. At $4.50 each, I expected much better. What a disappoint Dortoni has become ever since the baker and some staff left and opened up Batter Up Bakery. I used to get their flan there and never had an issue. I ordered 5 flans for my party. When I went there they were pure liquid and they wanted to give them to me in unopened plastic bowls. I was like you are kidding right? This is pure liquid. This has not set at all. This looks like vanilla milk. I had already paid for the order and they convinced to take it home and put it in the fridge. I stupidly trusted them and they told me they found covers and wrapped them and boxed them. When I got home and opened the boxes, I found that they had taped a bowl on top with the sides open and the liquid came out all over the box. We walked in, got a ticket, and waited 30 minutes before a counter girl called our number. There were three customers ahead of me and two placed cake orders. They really should have a line for cake orders/purchases and another for pastry/baked goods. There were two counter girls. One was on her pink cell phone while her customer was deciding what color icing and cake she wanted. The second counter girl was taping the receipt to a yellow order form while talking to a boy who appeared to work in the kitchen. She was just having a fun conversation and taking her time while there was a line of customers to the door. The worst part was when I finally got my mocha cake slice and NY Yankees sugar cookie. When I look back on my review of six years ago my heart is broken. I went to Dortoni a week ago and purchased struffoli along with other Italian pastries. The cannoli and sfulliatelle were tasty but the struffoli was stale. This never happened before so I attributed it to a bad day. On Christmas Eve I did the traditional ritual of waiting out front at 6 am to get the assortment of Italian pastries and the showcase was almost completely empty. This place has fallen off so far since we first went here over 20 years ago. Sad. Go infrequently now because of this but stopped in today to give it a try again and picked up a few things. First bite of a simple large cannoli, and only the ends had cream the center portion had no cream only an empty shell. That is atrocious. Also, some cakes they used to do the decorations with white chocolate like on their white chocolate ganache cake and now they use modeling chocolate or gum paste which tastes awful. I bought a chocolate/peanut butter 6inch cake which looked presentable but tasted so bitter and stale. It tasted like acetone.. which I'm not sure if it contained alcohol, but that is definitely something to disclose to your customer. Got the cake for our engagement party here. My friend and I have gone to Dortoni for all of our special occasion cakes since we discovered it when we were like 17. Very old school ordering process (ordered over the phone, sent inspo pics over email) and I didn't see the cake until the day of our party-- but I was less concerned about aesthetics and really wanted a cake that people would actually ENJOY. They definitely did! Even if you're not a huge fan of sweets like me, there is something for you here. The cake was light and delicious, and it was all gone in about 10 minutes. People still bring up my cake a year later! We got a vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream icing, and the top layer was some type of light fluffy whipped cream fruit filling which was INCREDIBLE. I wish we could've done that throughout the whole cake, but layer cakes need more stable icing to hold it up. If you are just getting one layer, the strawberry & cream filling is a must!! read more

This place is quite the rage here on Yelp so it was great that my cousin brought me here for some treats to take back to the City for my hubby. Well, the drive was long so I dug my hand into the bag for the black and white cookie. It was a bit messy in the bag because for some reason, it was packaged with a cannoli versus in the box with the mini cannolis and mini Napoleon. I like the cookie which is very soft and cakey. The bakery paper was stuck on the chocolate side so the cookie wasn't pretty anymore. Still eating it of course! The Napoleon was tasty. The layers were still crunchy and the cream light and creamy. The lobster tail was not crunchy at all. The custard filling was good. Disappointed with the crust being so soft that when I bit into it, I was pulling at it. The cannoli filling is too sweet for our tastes and the shell here was also disappointing. Not crunchy but headed towards soft. There are plenty of other items in the cases that look amazing like the cookies, cakes and fruit tarts. Happy to try some of those! Support your local businesses. read more

Today was a total disaster at the bakery There were plenty of staff but they were oblivious to patrons. One staff was helping a couple another staff was putting items on display. Ok no problem but my husband was standing there with a number and was completely ignored for more than 10 minutes. He was fuming because he couldn't get anyone's attention so he finally gave up and left. We will never go out of our way again to go there. I used to buy at Dortoni (Levittown) for each celebration in the family because everything was delicious.For the last 2 years it started to taste different, the same as the boxed mix from cheap stores. The cookies were still tasty, buttery and decently sweetened.Last week we bought our favorite cookies from this store and were extremely sweet and tasting like artificial flavors. She spent 3 phone calls talking through her exact allergies and what the options were that she could have or not. Only for us to show up to the actual cake tasting and them tell us she cant eat any of the cakes but still brought out the cake to us. The fact that they knew the allergies, had them written down and knew she could not eat cake but still let us show up to the tasting is terrible customer service. Lack of oversight from management. And actually quite disrespectful and rude to their potential clientele. Use to buy the chocolate mousse cake which in the past delicious. I remember loving it bc the mousse was good and it was all mousse with a thin layer of cake just on the bottom.. If you are celiac or highly gluten intolerant, you should avoid this place. Also if you value your time. I am very gluten intolerant and ordered a gluten-free black forest cake for 11 AM pick up last Saturday. Waited 45 minute on the order pick up line to be served, while the sole counter person took her sweet time bring orders out, chit chatting with friends and not pulling the 5 other people working in the bakery to speed up the queue. To add insult to injury, the cake apparently was cross contaminated with gluten because I got my gluten symptoms like clockwork within the usual time period from ingestion to symptoms.
